Hi all!

Skid, Your DH and mine sound very alike in their childcare methods! I popped out to the shop leaving the DCs at home, could hear DD screaming before I even got in the door! She was crying away in her bouncy chair while he was in the hallway putting up a bannister! He said he went in to her but she didn't want him... I think that we feel as though our babies are a part of us but men see them as completely separate if that makes sense. I am with you on feeling sad at bfing less too, we have gone from 5 feeds a day to 3 (1 feed dropped, one replaced with formula) and I feel very sad about that.

Cazzy, do not be fooled into thinking wooden floors are easier to keep clean! They need doing more often for starters and you can't just run the hoover round to freshen the room up - the dust collects under the furniture like you wouldn't believe so you have to move it all! They do look good though!

Clara, hope your move is going well, sounds as though you have it well under control although DD being poorly can't help - glad she is doing better now though! Sorry to hear about your IBS too, it is not a nice thing to live with. I used to suffer badly with it but it has not been a problem for some years until recently - it has definitely been stress which has brought it on but it does disappear when the stress does so hopefully you will feel a lot better when you have settled into your new life!

Kelbel, well done on getting your routine sorted!

Jewels, no idea on the rash, am shocked that your surgery can't give you an appointment sooner though! BTW, my washing machine also seems to eat little socks - some of DD's newborn ones are still missing!

Caz, hope you are feeling better now.

BT, lol at Daniel pulling your DH's chest hairs, Evie does that to my DH too - hehe! I think that babies do go through phases with their food, Evie has gone from loving everything to refusing pureed veg, she clamps her mouth shut and makes it as small as possible - so funny! I find that if I mix a couple of veggies up with a bit of meat or potato though she will happily take it.

Fifi, well done you on losing some weight! I think you need the occasional treat while dieting otherwise you just crave it. I always cut out rubbish from my diet but allow myself treats at weekends when I want to lose a bit.

Loucee, hope your little man is coping okay with his chicken pox.

Amani, sorry to hear about your thyroid problem, hopefully though the medication won't be too much of a pain and will make you feel a lot better! As for DD's lump, where abouts is it and how big is it? Could be a little gland (Evie almost permanently has a couple raised at the base of her neck). If you are still worried in a few days then take her back to see a different doctor if you can.

Clairey, lol at lazy arsed linguist! I was definitely one of those (and still am...)! However, DS1 was average for movement and speech and is now good at both, DS2 was super-fast with movement and speech and is still good at both. DD is very strong and babbles a lot too - will be interesting to see what she does!

Evie now has 5 teeth, getting sore when she decides to bite me during feeding now they are top and bottom. I gave her her first bottle of formula last week and she is now taking one every day. I didn't plan to BF for as long as I have but I feel stupidly guilty for giving her formula. She has taken to it well although she wasn't keen to begin with and the teats hurt her gums at the moment. I am going to keep it to just one bottle a day for a few weeks, I've got until late September before I go back to work so have got a couple of months to wind it down. Have found that she doesn't much like taking water with her meals though and she is a bit constipated today. Didn't do much yesterday either but she has been straining today and nothing... gave her a good bit of pear with her tea tonight and if that doesn't work was wondering if I should give her some breastmilk (just the foremilk maybe) with her meals for a couple of days??? Any suggestions?

becklespeckle · 16/07/2008 01:05

Have finally added a more recent pic of DD and one of all 3 rascals to my profile!

skidaddle · 16/07/2008 08:49

hi beckle - what a great long post - did you make notes as you were reading?!

Re constipation - my DS wasn't constipated but I was worried he was a bit dehydrated so gave him loads of water in a bottle (had previously trying with a cup) and he is now fine. I also know a mum of a constipated baby and she gives her DD orange juice which seems to do the trick. Lots of short BFs might help as well?

Glad my DH isn't the only one being neglectful! Do you get annoyed with your DH when he leaves Evie to cry or just grit your teeth and bear it? It just makes me so upset and angry I alwys end up marching in the room (if I am there) and scooping DS up with a faced like thunder. Think you are right that we see our babies as an extension of ourselves but fathers don't. My DH is brilliant with my older DD though - mayb eit is just a baby thing?

skidaddle · 16/07/2008 08:50

oh have just seen the photos beckle - she is goooorrgeous!

mixedmama · 16/07/2008 09:36

Just find it imopossible tokeep up... so read beckles post in the hope that she covered everything...c ertainly seems like it.

Fifi - are you trying to lose weight then (note to self: must read posts more thoroughly). I am too, have been doing weight watchers since end of April and have lost 20 pounds without feeling like I am dieting or depriving myself.

Hello to everyone... am going to make a conscious effort now to actually read throughout the day so i dont get too far behind.

becklespeckle · 16/07/2008 12:14

Thank you Skid
Yes I do always make notes while I am reading - I would never remember otherwise! I do indeed get wound up with DH when he leaves Evie to cry, I also use the thunder face and scoop her up whilst muttering inaudibly under my breath! Think it all goes over his head TBH! He is great with the older children but still does things in a way which makes me .

Hi Mixedmama! Perhaps I could do a weekly roundup?! Thats about how often I usually manage to get on here these days! Don't feel I can neglect the housework to MN so much now that DH is around more. Well done on your weight loss, 20lbs is impressive!

loucee · 16/07/2008 12:27

20lbs MM - well done! I wish I could stick to a diet, no use me trying to get out to weight watchers etc as DH never home for bathtime and that aside I am just useless at sticking to a program. I was doing ok with lots of exercise but then DH was home for 10days then DD had chicken pox and now DS means we're all over the place and I'm picking all the time, all the wrong foods as well.

Anyone in the same situation of not going back to work after maternity leave? Some days I think it'll be the best thing but other days I feel quite isolated and am not so sure (but that's probably because we've been stuck in the house now for ages and it makes me feel cut off as no family near by to visit and all our friends have young babies so have to avoid them whilst we've got the pox etc

Beanstermummy · 16/07/2008 13:04

Loucee - poor wee Finn - and there was us congratulating him last week on not it And sod the exercise and diet bit - I'm only doing Slimming world coz things were well out of hand after DD1 - saintly(ly) ??? eating salad as dreaded weigh in tonight!! MM snaps to you girl on 20lbs. I'm hoping for 2lb off tonight which will bring me to 15 - not sure though after weekend away

Is there a MN competition or award thing do you think for best MN'er re posts and catching up with everyone? Bespeckle definitley must win for this thread

Well must dash as lots of works to do as I want to pop to JL's to buy Spanx pants for wedding on Friday - new dress very nice but needs some assistance

Amani · 16/07/2008 13:49

Loucee - that's exactly what I was experiencing, tiredness after sleeping around 6-7hrs at night and the pins and needles in my wrists.

Anyhow, the saga continues, my GP called last night and he said that after I left the surgery he could stop thinking about my results and symptons and would like me to go for a full blood screening, but not to worry... yeah right...I've been on google for about 1/2 hr and now am convinced I have a horrible disease.....

Jewels - not sure what it could be, but best to get it checked out by a professional..

Beckle - the lumps are on the back of her neck, just diagonally below the ear. GP did say it might be glands...

Loucee (againg) - am back to work in 2 months and both dreading/looking forward to it...

Wizzska · 16/07/2008 14:37

Hello everyone. I feel a bit guilty because I've not had time to catch up.

Good on all you who have been dieting successfully, especially you MM. I'm just trying to get my head in gear for weight watchers. Had some success with them before so might give my weight a bit of thought before going on holiday in September. I quite agree with you Beckle, as you said to Fifi, you need a treat every now and then when you are dieting. I lost 2 stone with Weight watchers a few years ago. After weigh in every week I decided I could have a meal of whatever I wanted before going back on the wagon the next day.

Loucee - am supposed to be going back to work in September, but might resign. DH and I haven't decided if we can afford for me to leave yet. I'd quite like to not go back. We've got to get the balance right with childcare costs.

No teeth here yet.

BouncingTurtle · 16/07/2008 17:46

Hello everyone!

Beckle - well done on getting your dd to take a bottle - please pass me your tips! Your kids are sooo gorgeous.

Hellow to everyone else by the way!

Amani - how are you feeling, I have friend being treated for hypothyroidism, it took them a while to get the dosage right but once they did she said she felt loads better.

Going to pop another couple of pix on my profile.

fifisworld · 16/07/2008 22:15

Hello everyone

BT Your ds is gorgeous..your right the smiles just make you melt and make it all worthwile

MM Wow 20lb...thats fantastic. I've lost 3lb in 10 days, i did have a treat at the weekend. I'm going to have a treat every other weekend so nothing this weekend

Loucee I Hope your ds is ok, i remember having chicken pox and its not pleasant.

Amani Sorry to hear about your thyroid problem, i hope you feel better soon

Cazzy We have wooden floors in the living room and hallway..mine are dust magnets, they can get hoovered and mopped 3/4 times a day and be as bad as ever at the end of the day!!

I'm enjoying a night on my own, dp has gone out with his friend for a drink as he's just split up with his girlfriend.
My dad had the ds's while i went for a run with my friend..we almost packed in and went for a drink but we kept at it. Jogged on and off for about 2 mile...off to bed now.
I'm going to put new pics on tomorrow

cazzybabs · 17/07/2008 09:29

Well re: the wooden floors at least you can see the dirt as opposed to it hiding in the carpets. Mind you my dream of new floors upstairs is a LONG LONG way off.

Evie has anoher cold and a very very runny nose today. And we are off to see my friend and hew 6 week old - hope she is not going to PFB about her and Evie's cold.

Beanstermummy · 17/07/2008 10:09

Cazzy - PFB????? Brain not working enough this morning to work out new acronyms (big word for me that!!)

Wizzka - exactly like me with Slimming world. Weigh in last night (lost another 2.5 lb so now at 15.5 ) so as soon as I get in it's bottle of wine open - or two to be honewst last night - hence brain nopt quite functioning correctly this morning.

As for wooden floors and cleaning - They are a bugger but in a way it's good I suppose as the dirt and dust can't hide - just means getting round to it more often which for me at the moment is a big issue! Trying to find a cleaner as I've decided I will forgo alcohol to pay for it!!

Amani - Don't stress about all the multitude of tests and symptoms - everyone can react differently as although it might take a while to get the dosage right it's really no hassle long term I promise - and they're only tiny wee tablets too!!

claireybee · 17/07/2008 10:14

DS only woke 3 times last night! First time I sat up to feed him then put him in bed next to me, the second time he crawled on top of me and helped himself which was great although he was awake and crawling round the bed for ages afterwards. The third time he also fed lying down and it is amazing how much more rested that makes me feel.

He has started cruising today, well kind of. What really happens is that he takes a step or two, forgets that he is meant to be holding on and falls over! Then looks all indignant and cries.

Amani have you heard any more from the doctor yet? Try not to worry too much...

Loucee hope your ds isn't too poorly, and sorry you feel like you are stuck at home at the moment.

Skid/Beckle I do the thunder face too-It isn't so easy to stop our ds from crying but sometimes I feel like dh isn't even trying eg I'll walk him around, talk or sing to him, change his position etc but dh just holds him in one position and keeps going even though it isn't working.

Aaaargh dd just took advantage of my distraction did a wee in the potty then was paddling in it-grrr!

Going to look at a house this afternoon (rented). Now ds is on the move ours is feeling even more cramped and pokey. Clara you were right though, rentals have gone up. when we first started looking 3 beds were about £80-£90 a month more than we pay for a 2 bed but now they are £120-£140 more-we'll have to live seriously carefully if we do go for a 3 bed.

claireybee · 17/07/2008 10:17

Beanster PFB is precious first born. NSB neglected second born etc.

Cazzy I wouldn't worry too much with dd I was very PFB about toddlers/children with snot but not so much about other babies-babies germs seem less harmful somehow!

cazzybabs · 17/07/2008 10:29

well - you are right I can sit the other end of thje table (we are going to a cafe).

cazzybabs · 17/07/2008 10:31

Beanster - I find after enough gin I don't care about the gin...

I am after new furniture - we have a crappy 2nd hand sofa which I hate so am saving up for a new one which is hard as after child care I have £300 (and that has to buy food)...maybe in 2 years time I will have a new sofa

Beanstermummy · 17/07/2008 11:11

Cazzy - with you on the Gin front - jsut rediscovered the joys of a good G&T after not drinking any while pG with DD1 (for some reason A glass of wine or so seemed ok but not spirits?? ) and jsut never got back into it until now - joy!! And less Syns with SW that a glass of wine so success all round

Wizzska · 17/07/2008 11:53

So its not just me then with the gin. I bought a half sized bottle for myself only yesterday. Nothing better than a g&t when the bairn when you've just got the bairn off to sleep.

I'm glad for you Clairey having a better night last night but sorry you're still having bad sleep problems. DS has been absolutely great for the past couple of weeks after we did cc. Last night however was an absolute howler. He kept waking up and we couldn't understand why. DH and I were both wide awake at 4am last night when he just wailed and couldn't settle even when I broke my new rule of feeding in the night and letting him into our bed. Had a row with DH about how to deal with him because he wanted to get DS up and watch telly with him for a while and I wanted him to get back to sleep in his cot. DH won in the end and got him back to sleep and he slept from about 5am til 9.30!

Am very impressed with the cruising! DS is standing and trying to pull himself up with varying amounts of success. Am sure it won't be long now though.

Amani, hope you're feeling ok.

New pic on profile here too.

BouncingTurtle · 17/07/2008 12:28

Cute pix Wizz! Where was the beach one?

I have just tried to give ds a bottle - he screamed and pushed it away like I was going do something nasty to him
He was seriously playing up when I tried to bf him as well - kept latching on then pulling off looking around, then thrashing and screaming . Just does my head in - and he picks exactly the wrong moment to do it as well, just when I was on the bloody phone!

claireybee · 17/07/2008 12:39

I like a good g&t too. My uncle gave me a bottle of homemade sloe gin at the weekend-it's yummy and worked wonders on my sore throat the other evening!

Wizz if he had been sleeping better then maybe he is teething? If dd has a bad night now it is usually teeth or illness.

How long did the cc take?

cazzybabs · 17/07/2008 13:00

OH GOD MY MESSAGE MADE NO SENSE...i WAS HAVING A SLight incident with keeping Evie from helping my type, being ordered to iron hamma beads and then dealing with dd2 having goga hamma bead up her nose - how did I get there I ask,,,,I don't know it just did she told me..I then ask do you think you may have put it there by accident. No she tells me...it just did. I did get it out with some blowing!

What I meant was with the gin I fail to notice the floor!!!

Louise76 · 17/07/2008 13:51

Hello all

Missed a bit as I was away Sun-Tue at my Mum's. It was lovely to get away as my mum and dad are desperate to help out with dd so i get a wee break. I also got to catch up with 3 friends and their various dcs.

Amani - hope you start to feel better now that you at least know what is wrong. My doctor tested my thyroid function just before I gave up bf as I had some of the symptoms (constant tiredness despite sleeping 6-7 hrs, weight loss and low immune system). In my case it was bf that was making me ill so I was glad to stop!

Clairey - your ds is so clever crawling already! My dd is sitting up really well on her own and can move around on her back, kind of like a crab!

I'm with you all with the gin. I was exactly the same as you beanster - my flawed logic said that a glass of wine was OK when I was pregnant but spirits just seemed wrong

Just a wee question for you all - do you leave toys in your lo's cot?

I don't know if dh and I are being super-paranoid (clueless first time parents) but I've always worried in case she falls asleep with something over her face or something like that (now that I've typed it I look like a basket case but I just wanted to know what if any toys you all leave in the cot for you lo to play with??

BouncingTurtle · 17/07/2008 14:03

I have a couple of soft toys which live at the top end - if ds wakes up before us in the morning, he'll roll over and shuffle up that end to play with them. Keeps him quiet for a bit so I can catch more zz's
