Conker, I found the same thing with Joe and the car seat, he cried the minute I put him in the seat to the minute we got to where we were going, he hated facing backwards and always had to be sort of squashed in as he's very broad and quite tall. I put him in a forward facing sat at 8 months as I could no longer fasten the straps on the old one! He is quite a big chappy! He was so much happier when he could see us and look out the window, although he still gets rather restless on long journeys but at least i can get to tesco and back now! Long journeys I usually time around his naps!

James, sorry things haven't been good for you lately. How long have you been feeling down for? I am pleased you have got the diagnosis anyway, at least now you can get help and eventually begin to slowly feel better.

Me and dh are fine but I think our relationship is just feeling the strain of parenthood! Nothing major but there are times when I just can't be arsed with him and I can be quite sharp with him. Having said that, he gives as good as he gets so he's not exactly the innocent party either! Joseph was such a demanding baby that we kind of just went into auto pilot with eachother and now things are easing up a lot with Joe it seems we have neglected eachother for the past year but I dunno what to do about it! I genuinely can't remember what we talked about before having a baby. We must have talked about something as we are both chatter boxes and like you Violet, we used to be best friends but lately it all seems a bit of an effort. Ahh well, I'm sure it's all to be expected within the first years of having children.

Oooo almost forgot, Joseph slept through from 7pm til 7am for the first time in 3 months! He used to sleep that long every night but then he learned to stand up and things kind of went tits up! I still woke up at 5am though expecting him to wake any minute and I watched him on the video monitor for ages cos I was scared he'd died. Seriously, I really thought there must be something wrong, there wasn't he's fine and I feel a lot happier knowing he CAN sleep properly again when it suits him!

lizziemun · 29/07/2008 20:05

James I glad you have got a diagnosis from your doctor and hopefully you will start to feel better in a few weeks.

As foe Lexie walking she walking all the time although by mid morning before her nap and about 1 hour before bed she doing a good job of walking like someone who has drunk a bottle of vodka .

conkertree · 29/07/2008 20:40

lol at lexie's walking. ds only walking with hands held - and he's doing it as if he wants to go fast with his feet, but cant quite keep up with his body - the feet quite often run away from the rest of him - but he's very proud of himself.

james - sorry to hear about the pnd and pernicious anaemia (although i wont pretend i know what that is). Hope now they've been diagnosed you will get lots of support, and things will improve. the sleeping on the cushions sounds good though - might see if i can persuade ds to try that so i can get on with other things although he's not bad at playing on his own while i get on with things - at least for a wee while.

meandmyjoe - think it sounds like most people's realtionships are not 100% just now (or maybe those with no problems are just keeping quiet incase the rest of us are ). wouldnt say we are having major problems- just the usual of dh wanting more sex than i do and both of us being quite tired all the time. but we both still really want more children, so i dont think things can be too bad, and when we get a day all together, we do have fun usually.

tt - lol at the brokers explanation. how is the pregnancy going (sorry if i've missed you answering that before).

oh and meandmyjoe - have you seen the thread on the behaviour threads asking for your advice? think it was posted this morning.

meandmyjoe · 29/07/2008 21:51

Yes, just replied now thanks! I hadn't noticed til you pointed it out so thank you!

tokentotty · 30/07/2008 09:50

This morning Paddy FINALLY managed to descend our top flight of stairs properly (ie backwards and safely). I know this is probably a fluke for the time being but I don't care - am sooooo pleased to be getting somewhere with teaching him this. That and I found teeth nos. 9 & 10 having broken through up top. Odd thing is they seem to be his incisors (I think - dentistry not my strong suit) and he's giving the Canines a miss for the time being

James, its a bit of a good news/bad news thing isn't it really? Bad that you have something wrong but great to finally have it diagnosed and confirmed, and more importantly eminently treatable. Am absolutely positive you'll have a tremendous turnaround in how you're feeling very soon xx

Gill ??

Pregnancy going well actually. Am sporting a rather noticeable bump already that's for sure and am firmly in my maternity collection.... As for Pads, he seems to love nursery. From the first time we went he was relaxed there which was marvellous. He'll happily sleep there, play, eat anything they wave at him and generally have a great time judging by his smiles when I pick him up and the reports from the staff of how they can't believe how jolly he is virtually all the time. Awwww...am off being proud again !!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 30/07/2008 12:15

10 teeth?? Can't imagine J with loads of teeth, he still has 2.

Thanks for all the messages. Conker, it's some kind of auto-immune disease which doesn't allow your stomach to absorb vitamin b12 so you get a deficiency, and the only way you can get better is via lifelong b12 injections so it bypasses the stomach.

I knew something was definitely wrong when I was trying to count the number of months between october and february, and just couldn't remember what came after december. I've been blaming my foggy mind on baby brain for a long time but it was getting worse and worse. These days I can't do simple sums, and can't think of simple words like "pushchair" when I'm talking to someone, and sometimes I can't remember how to spell words I've always spelt. Dp caught me grilling a frozen pizza the other day- so embarassing.

Turns out this mental fog is a classic sign of PA, apparently it can cause havoc with your body and mind (and can eventually send you mental and kill you if left for long enough!) but it's normally caught v early as mine was because it makes you feel so rotten. I was reading the list of symptoms going "omg... omg! that's me! and that... and that!" lol Anyway, getting sorted now so no worries.

Gtg, dp just brought home an enormous binbag of toddler clothes off freecycle, going for a rummage.

As i said ealier my sister has pernicious anaemia and she has a VIT K injection about every 12weeks.

I settle for Lexie to get her top two teeth so she can chew better let alone 10 .

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 30/07/2008 13:16

Oh sorry Lizzie, didn't notice you'd said that before- vitamin K is it? evil looking red liquid anyway! How is she generally, does she feel rotten towards the end of the three months or does it keep it nicely topped up?

Afternoon all. Had a dentist appointment this morning. Was v. pleased I have no problems and I only paid £16.20 for a checkup and clean instead of the usual £75 at my private dentist. Dd had her hands over her ears while I had my teeth cleaned and I was worried she would be scared when the dentist checked her teeth. Before we went she said that she didn't want a pink drink (not sure who had told her about that). She looked like a rabbit in headlights but she was fine and very pleased with her Scooby Doo sticker.

Last night I was questioning why we decided to have kids. Dh was away so I had to do bed times on my own. That's not a problem normally but ds has been quite difficult for the past few nights. He often screams til he falls asleep and then wakes up half an hour or an hour later screaming again. So while he was doing that, I was trying to do chores and clear up 2 drinks that dd spilt on the carpet. Dd ended up being sent to bed with no stories and woke ds up because she was screaming so he was screaming again.

James - hope you start to feel better soon. Have you been given your first injection yet? Do you need to go on ADs for the PND?

Still no AF yet. I'm on day 26 of my cycle. So far this year I haven't gone more than 27 days before AF arrives so it it's not here by the weekend I'll do a test.

10 teeth!!! Ds still has none. I've seen a few threads recently and apparently it's quite common for the first one to arrive after they turn 1. He must have quite hard gums though as he does well chewing things like cucumber. I still steam his apple and pear though.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 30/07/2008 13:47

Hi Gill, sorry you had a bad night, J's been messing about til almost midnight every night for the last week or so. Yeah I'm on AD's now for the pnd, I wasn't keen on going on them but it doesn't look like I'm going to get better on my own. Waiting to hear if you have any news, how are you feeling about it?

OP posts:
conkertree · 30/07/2008 13:52

Gill - I was getting really down last night about ds going to bed too cause he's never been a great sleeper, but things had improved in the last few weeks, then this week with the hot weather its all got worse again, but was reading this morning more about how when they are close to walking, they get so excited that they think eating and sleeping are a waste of practise time so get really cross about having to do them, and thats exactly what ds appears to be doing. doesnt help exactly, but i like it when i understand why things are happening more.

James - hope the injections work then. I wonder if a lack of vitamin B12 would affect people without PA too cause i am so much more forgetful/unable to find words etc etc than i was before ds came along, so maybe i should try eating some more foods with B12 in it.

TT - 10 teeth my goodness - ds has had 4 for so long now, it'll be strange when he gets more, but i think they are on the way as he produces a river from his mouth most days just now.

Anyone else got birthday party plans? Was shopping yesterday and couldnt resist buying matching paper plates/cups/napkins and a wee happy birthday banner. I wasnt going to and I know in one way they are a waste of money cause he wont know - but the party is partly for us too, and I just fancied them. Only having his cousins and a couple of other friends- neither set of grandparents can come, but will be nice not to have too many i think.

tokentotty · 30/07/2008 14:03

My God, I think extra doses of Vit B12 should be given out left right and centre to pregnant women and new Mums I barely know my own name most days and need all the help I can get for sure.

I have birthday party planning in full swing as it's going to be a real extravaganza . Could be anything up to 100 coming so big fingers crossed for the weather! Have booked a children's entertainer for a couple of hours and also a guy at my work who is the most amazing magician I've ever seen, to come over and walk round the adults and entertain them through the early evening. We used to have big parties all the time but haven't had anything apart from the usual 20+ at Christmas time so thought we'd use the birthday as an excuse to get together. I will regret this I have no doubt!!

lizziemun · 30/07/2008 14:14

James

I think because it was diagnosed years ago along with PCOS she is now kept at a normal level (vit K injections thatbabies have a birth)

Conkertree

Yes i thinking about Lexie birthday (Only family and thats 18people) dh has chosen this. We don't do big parties for dc but we always do buy plates and tablecloths and decorations.

tokentotty · 30/07/2008 14:28

Oh Lizziemun what lovely stuff for birthday parties.

My2Weegirls · 30/07/2008 14:54

Sorry no time to catch up ? hope you are all well. Dd2 been having a bad time with her teeth ? however, not 1, not 2, not 3 but 4 molars are half way through so hopefully that will settle down soon and we?ll only have 8 more teeth to go!

This morning she was standing playing with the letter box when the paper boy put through the paper. She grabbed it and pushed it back, he pushed it through again, she pushed it back and so on till I managed to get her away was really funny. poor boy must have been wondering waht was going on.

Will try and catch up later in the meantime hope you are all ok

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 30/07/2008 15:05

Oh, looks like that partypieces shop also has a dedicated first birthdays site, too.

OP posts:
GillL · 30/07/2008 15:27

Hi James - I'm still in 2 minds. I'd really love another baby and I've been broody for ages but the more I think about it the more I hope I'm not pg.

Conker - that's interesting to know. Ds' scream is blood curdling these days. As soon as he knows he's going to bed he throws his dummy on the floor. I put it straight back in when I lay him down but every time I go up to him he's standing at the end of the cot looking at the dummy that he's thrown away in temper.

Ds' birthday party will be very small. I'm inviting my sister and her 2 kids (3 and 7) and will just set up paddling pool and toys in the garden (depending on the weather). I might get a few bits for party bags as the older kids will expect something. They do some good stuff in our local ASDA. When dd turned 1 I invited loads of kids and it was really hard work. I was actually really ill and almost stayed in bed but I felt too bad. I hadn't even written her card

My2Weegirls - that story about the paper made me lol and I'm still smiling about it. Your dd2 is such a character!

conkertree · 30/07/2008 16:01

wow tt thats an impressive party.

wish i'd looked online before i went and bought things now - the farmyard ones were much more what i had in mind. Wanted animals of some sort cause he seems more interested in them than anything else, and we wnet to Blair Drummond Safari park at the weekend and he loved it, so got ones with jungle animals - but the more i look at them, the more i think the most dominant animals are a big scary alligtor, and a snake - really not the cuddly first birthday party i had in mind .

Maybe i could keep them for another year and buy some off that site.

Its nice that people are back able to chat again - we've had a bit of a lull the last few weeks of not many posts, so its nice if people have a wee bit more time just now .

helibee · 30/07/2008 16:32

hiya, our computer is fixed again so i'm back!

my2weegirls-your dd2 is hilarious-she always makes me smile

james-sorry to hear about the pa and pnd, really hope you're feeling a bit brighter soon when the treatment kicks in. I've been wondering for a while if i've got some mild pnd-i don't know what it is i just feel sad (i keep thinking it's just the grief of losing mum setting in again!) but i'm so snappy with dh-when really he's not done anything (apart from not tidying up) but it gets me really wound up and it shouldn't. I also feel really tearful a lot. Anyway i'm going to make an appt to see the gp.

gil-hope you get the news you want-not long to wait either way!

tt-wow at the party and the teeth, Callum only has 4 teeth but when i felt his gums yesterday it feels like his molars are coming through!

lizziemum-how are the girls?

tasha-how is ds3?

We have all family up for various reasons over Callums birthday and so we're going to have a tea party at Kelburn Castle or Finlaystone country park and then get him dedicated on the sunday.

conker-i def need to speak to you about kilts, how long would one take to make for callum?

conkertree · 30/07/2008 17:01

hi helibee - really sorry for not getting back to you about kilts sooner - not a good way to run a business .

I can make a baby kilt in a few days, so it just depends on the material. I know you'd mentioned a family tartan. Do you have any of it yourself? If not, I can order it, but it takes a week or more to come in, and it can be really quite expensive.

I have blue Menzies dress tartan which is a dancers tartan weight, so lighter weight than men's kilts, but it works quite well for babies and children. Its got a lot of white in it, kiltstore.net/tartan/Menzies-Special-Blue-Dress/51307?filter_searchterm=Menzies shows the colours.

So from you, I'd need to know what you'd like to do about material, what vest size he wears, and I'd need a couple of measurements from you.

conkertree · 30/07/2008 17:03

and sorry you are feeling down helibee. hopefully talking to the gp will help.

lizziemun · 30/07/2008 19:27

Helibee

Girls are fine Lizzie is now eating well she seems to be less fussy since that bug, and Lexie is eating as much as ever i'm sure there must be something she doesn't like other then formula milk but i haven't found it yet.

I have say Lizzie is driving me up the wall and she has only been 2 weeks only another 6 weeks to go .

meandmyjoe · 30/07/2008 19:52

Hi all,

Helibee, sorry you're not feeling great. I think it's great that you are going to the doctors though. I felt like that for the first 9 months and I just kept it quiet and never asked for help, which in hindsight was not a very smart thing to do! Thankfully the fog did begin to clear a bit as ds got happier and more settled, I seemed to calm down and be less tearful! I really hope that you have an understanding gp and you'll soon be feeling a little better.

James, glad you have got the treatment for pa and pnd. Again, I think you were very strong for going to the doctors and hopefully things will improve soon.

TT that party sounds incredible! Very stressful though, not sure I'd be up to entertaining 100 people, not even sure I know 100 people . Lol.

My ds' party is on Saturday (although his birthday's not until tuesday but everyone works during the week.) and it's a far more boring low key event. Just a few family members and friends round for small party in the garden with a paddling pool for the kiddies. If it's rubbish weather then we'll all be stuck inside the house but we'll make it as nice as possible. I have to say it's not looking good on the weather front. It's been so hot and sunny for 6 days in a row now so I just know it aint gonna last for the weekend! There's gotta be some rain heading for Lincoln pretty soon and no doubt it'll come on Saturday !

I can't believe all these babies with 10 or more teeth! Joseph still has the 4 front ones he had when he was 8 months and no sign of anymore. They all seemed to come through at once and since then..... nothing.

More sucess on the night times, ds slept from 7pm til 6am again which is nearly back to what he was before the separation anxiety arrived at 9 months so I'm ! After two months of screamy bedtimes and less than 3 hours sleep some nights, I'm very grateful that things appear to have settled down again, for the time being at least. Hope things calm down at night for you James, Conker and Gill. DS was just as you describe gill, he'd scream himself to sleep while I stood by the cot, then I had to ever so quietly sneak out, then an hour or two later he'd be up again and just want to sleep in my arms. Hoping you get the same miracle we have the past 3 nights.

Anyway hope all your lo's are doing well and are looking forwards to their birthdays!

tasha22 · 30/07/2008 21:14

hiya, party arangements, omg, i haavent even started thinking about it lol but then i think lo's is the laston the 30th but will prob be small 6 kids and 6-7 adults. pool in the garden sounds nice only weve started getting terrible rain here and after such a nice week

james+helibee- sorry you have both been feeling bad. james hope you feelbetter soon and helibee hope the doc goes well and gets you feeling better soon.

gill- i swear you just described my ds3 lol i put him to bed half an hour before the other 2 and then hes asleep by the time they go up and lately he started waking when they go up (think ds2 pokes him when im not looking) hes up several times in the night. hes stopped taking bottles through the day, god i could go on all night lol hope you start having better nights soon.

has anyone heard of the lagan? its a very dangerous river that goes through liburn belfast and on to somewhere else, anyway dp decided to take ds1 and ds2 for a walk beside it on their ride along toys and ds2 decides to take a run through nettles and fall off a drop and into the laggan! dp jumped in after him threw him up and got ds1 to pull him so he wouldnt fall back and then dp was stuck, but got out eventually meanwhile poor ds1 was screaming, thankfully i wasnt there or id have been screaming too!

i took ds3 to see if i could get him a half decent pair of shoes as hes standing now and thought they would help his ballance but theres nowhere that has any in his size which is a size 0 but nowhere even had a size 1??? hes not as chesty now but hes not eating too well so im hoping he'll pick up soon. still no word on his op which is supposed to be start of august, dont want it to ruin his birthday.

better go tidy up. gill ill be back to see your results at weekend, fingers crossed for whatever your hoping for

tasha22 · 30/07/2008 21:15

oh my2weegirls forgot to say a big lol at your dd2 bless her lol poor paperboy
