will try one of them hersetta - though i suspect with the elastic on it, she will find a way to use it to catapult a peek-a-block at me or dd1 .

she has been little miss mischief today! all the clean washing (not calling it ironing as i don't iron) that i'd spent about an hour sorting into mine, dp, dd1 an ddd2 bundles is now all over the floor, mixed up, together - i only went to the toilet.

dp's cds (he's fanatical about them - they are in alphabetical order) have been removed one at time from the shelves she can reach - looked at and thrown down on the floor.

she's just devoured a rich tea and grabbed mine out of my hand.

chewed the nose of 'lizzie' one of dd1s dolls.

i've had to put her learn and groove in front of the tv etc to stop her making a bee-lne for that.

forgot what this stage/phase was like!!!!

Hersetta · 19/05/2008 16:22

Oh god - I'm glad Caitlin is not mobile yet. I think (and her childminder agrees) that's she going to be a bum shuffler. She's very happy sitting upright and has been looking at things to pull herself up on but really hasn't shown too much interest in crawling after her initial attempt and failure. Her Dad was a bum shuffler though - his mum said he never crawled. just when from shuffling to walking.

heehee re your DP's cd's though!!

loler · 19/05/2008 16:50

Those hats don't stay on!

Hello - no hiding from me!

Just like the last thread title made me feel like I was a bit backwards, so does this one. I (very luckily) still have a plonkable baby. If I sit him in the middle of a ring of toys (or even better food) I can come back and he'll still be happy in the same place.

We have no teeth or signs of them. I've gone all hippy dippy and ds2 is wearing an amber teething necklace. By some sort of fairy magic it's meant to stop the pain of teething. After 3 kids and not finding anything really works I thought I would give it a whirl. So far he hasn't had the constant red cheeks and dribbling so maybe it works (or maybe he just has had a break in teething?) - you might just about see it in new photos on profile. Everyone elses photos are lovely - don't the babies all look loads different from each other now?

Haven't had a chance to catch up with the last thread(anyone fancy don't a summary of where we are at?!). Hope everyone is well and things are going smoothly.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 19/05/2008 18:42

Just had my heart in my mouth- James was playing happily in the doorway with a couple of toys, dp was sitting about 7ft away, J was in full view but had his back turned to dp. I was in another room on the phone. As I put the phone down I turned and saw J putting something in his mouth, it was only a bloody big metal screw! Christ, if I hadn't have turned round when I did, he could have choked, or needed some kind of procedure to get it removed, it was a really sharp pointy one too. Scared the bloody pants off me, I've only just put him down again.

He'd pulled the screw out of the carpet runner in the doorway, it must have been loose - you may all want to go round with a screwdriver as my dp is about to do, and check/tighten all visible screws up. My nerves are jangling.

Sorry I'll catch up on the thread after bedtime, need a stiff drink!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 19/05/2008 18:48

AAARGH! as I just hit send I noticed him chewing something out of the corner of my eye, raced over and he had a small jagged piece of smashed bowl he must have fished out from some crevice somewhere. wtf!

Sod drinking, I need a valium....

loler · 19/05/2008 20:34

Try not to worry too much they generally spit these sort of things back out. It's impossible to constantly watch them.

Meandmyjoe · 19/05/2008 21:00

Hi everyone! Hope you are all well.

MamaTama, I think I spoke to you on another thread about moving your ds to a cot. How's the bedtime routine going??

Oh James, my ds picked up a nail from my dads garden at the weekend and I felt the same as you. My nerves were all over and I just kept worrying what could have happened if he'd swallowed it or cut him self. It's such a worrying time as they are so inquisitive and won't stay put but still have no concept of danger and no real comprehension of language (eg. NO!! Joseph either totally ignores this request to stop whatever he's doing and carries on regardless or he bursts into tears cos his mummy is such a fun sucker!)

Is it just me or are other people not liking this stage of babyhood?? I feel awful for admitting it but some days I really count down til his bedtime so I don't have to worry that he's touching something he shouldn't or that he could hurt himself. He's so bloody nosy and has to hold everything, he is incapable of just sitting like most babies and observing. He has to be part of the action which is adorable and infuriating all at the same time! I sympathise with you James about wanting some ME time. I couldn't leave him for any length of time but sometimes just an hour or two would be nice! Impossible though as separation anxiety is in full force here so if Joe can't see either me or dh then he tends to fret and cry

Ah well, I must admit though, Joseph is so much part of the family that if he wasn't here for a few hours I'd miss him like mad and still worry that he was going to be up to no good wherever he was and who ever he was with! All part of being a mummy I suppose and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Anyway, my2weegirls, so glad my ds isn't the only one who steals biscuits! In fact, since starting BLW he tends to steal whatever we happen to be eating. I don't mind at all though actually, just relieved he's eating fairly well again.

Anyway better go as I am shattered so am off for an early night!

omg - only just found this htread!!

Hello all, sorry to be a stranger. I haven't read the thread yet, will catch up later when Evei is alseep again. I'm stuck at home with ehr fpor the next 2 days as she insisted on spending yuesterday throwing up. Charming. oh bugger, she's awake.

Love the thread title - soooo true.... Evie eats anything she can get her hands on, receipts, bank statemnets, grass, leaves, 2 day old toast squirelled away in a corner......no wondeer she's throwing up.

Crawling is going well, she is very independant, and disappears off to find stuff (to eat), so I think we may need a stairgate - which we never used with DS!!

Best go, will come back later and read up on all your news.
Tasha - hope your LO is better. xx

lizziemun · 20/05/2008 10:43

Tasha thinking of you hope, everything is ok.

Lexie eats everything in sight and if we are eating and she hasn't got anything she just stands up and screams at us .

Just a funny quote from MIL 'you should stop Lexie from standing up as she to young(8mths)' This is from a woman who was a mother to 3 and a nurse for 40yrs .

So has anyone got any tips on how to stop a very depend 8 1/2mths from standing and walking around the room can i have them .

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 20/05/2008 12:04

Morning all,

Tasha, hope you're ok

Just spent almost 4 hours babyproofing again after last nights scary screw incident (but enough about my lovelife, fnar fnar) hoovered everything, cleaned and checked all the skirting boards, nooks and crannies etc. I haven't pulled the furniture out yet but he hasn't had a nap yet so has been sitting next to me supervising my cleaning and smooching the hoover.

We have a small (4 inch) step down into the utility room. I've cleaned and cleared in there today to give him a bit more "world" iyswim so I'm trying to teach him how to get down the step, he's figured out how to get up it already.

Meandmyjoe, I'm not enjoying this stage much either. I love that he's so much more interactive and funny, and I celebrate every new step and milestone he achieves BUT it's a total stressfest. Nothing is clean enough, tidy enough, he's wherever I don't want him to be, and no matter how much I really do try he will find something jagged or manky to eat from some festering crevice under the doormat etc. I can feel those eyes in the back of my head emerging. They're bloody twitching, too.

loler, I hope you're right because there's only so much sodding babyproofing I can do. On a quick scout around my previously safe kitchen earlier I found: a tiny safety pin, the lid off the germolene, a 5p coin and an enormous ball of bluish dust which appears to have rolled out from under the fridge like a tumbleweed. I'm still in denial over the slugs, at least they're protein.

Sagpuss, hope your lo is feeling better soon, poor thing. Lizzie, if shecan walk, then she's old enough to walk, imho. Short of putting a ball and chain on her there's not much you can do do to stop them!

Hmm. Now there's an idea...

Uki · 20/05/2008 12:51

Hi all

have been reading, not posting for a number of reasons

Tash-my thoughts are with you, i have been scared to say much lately, as i really have felt for you. Hopefully after today, you and your lovely family will be more at ease.

meandmyjoe and james - yes that's quite the reason i have no time to post, my LL is constantly into things or wrapped around my legs. It would be great if he'd just play with his toys but no he only wants his older brothers toys, so i spend alot of time breaking them up/apart.

it's so intresting reading about how some little ones are walking, talking, crawling, teething, etc, they are just all so different.

LL is still only making the one sound, which i'm almost worrying about. he kinda barks like a dog with an sharp 'ah' sound. he seems to think we are only dogs as he does it not only to the dog, but the cat and alpacas as well. yes i have 2 alpacas!!!

lizzie - gotta love those mil and mum comments, doesn't matter what i say to my mum, it's like 'oh no' 'oh too young' 'oh never in my day' 'oh i don't remember that' to which i reply 'NO, you don't'

On a good note my almost three year old is getting easier, less tantrums, more agreeable, etc.

GillL · 20/05/2008 13:45

Hi all, got loads to say but it's taken me so long to catch up that I've really got to get back to working. I'll try and get on later. Hope you have a nice afternoon. Hope Evie's better soon Sagpuss.

GillL · 20/05/2008 21:07

Love the new title. Ds puts everything in his mouth. He is especially partial to shoes. He's very quick too. If I don't watch out he's out in the hall licking shoes. When I bring him back in the living room and shut the door he makes a beeline for the kitchen so I have to run to shut the gate. My mum's sky box is at floor level and he crawls towards it giggling. If we don't get there quick enough he's chewing on the card.

Sorry to hear about the bad nights mamamila. Ds has no teeth either. He has loads of lumps but he doesn't seem to be suffering fortunately.

Time to myself sounds wonderful James. Dh is out every Saturday morning working on his car and his uncle's car. I told him at the weekend that I've got to start doing something away from the kids soon. I'm like you though, I wouldn't want to be without them all the time. Once every couple of months is fine with me. If I have a night off, I just can't wait to go and pick them up the next morning. Then after 20 minutes of being home I wish I'd left them at mum and dad's/pil's

Hello mamatama. Welcome to the group.

Ds hasn't had any tantrums yet but he has started saying 'oh mum mum' when he's upset.

Meandmyjoe - I have to sympathise about the separation anxiety. Dd was terrible with that and wasn't even content with dh. Fortunately ds is much more laid back. If I couldn't leave him to shower/make lunch/dry hair etc it would be a nightmare getting ready for work every day.

GillL · 20/05/2008 21:15

Just added a new pic to my profile. Love everyone else's photos. They all look so grown up now. It only seems 5 minutes since we were uploading our newborn pics.

helibee · 21/05/2008 00:57

hiya, i love all the pics-aren't they all so gorgeous, i've just updated Callums pics on my profile too.

James-glad your dad seems to have got the message and i hope that things work out with your brother soon. p.s James is mega cute-i love the swim suit and hat

tasha-hope you're ok

lizzie-Callum started walking and weight bearing at 3 1/2 months and the doc said if he can do it it's great for their bone density

Callum has been sitting in his cot since 10pm singing and scratching his head I'm going to cream him up again and give him some medised to see if that helps!

loler-hello-glad you're ok and your lo is doing well, let us know if the amber teether works.

my2weegirls-thomas looked so much fun, i love the pics, your girls are gorgeous! Yes FM (apart from being your initials is just something that has to be managed-no cure, as i have CFS as well i have the worst of the pain and fatigue ends of the scale but hey, thats life. I'm grateful for everything else i have and it's not life threatening so i cant complain really!)

meandmyjoe-i know it's hard sometimes, i'm really missing when C was a cute wee baby who just snuggled up and slept in my arms and this stage is def tiring but i'm just trying to enjoy doing new things with him-he helped me make some cards the other day (well he stabbed them with crayons and then tried to peel of the stickers we'd put on and eat them ) but it was good fun!

uki-the alpacas sound fun, i hope that ds starts to enjoy playing with his toys soon to give you a break

Gill-Alex is very cute-what a cheeky grin! I can't bear being apart from Callum so not quite plucked myself up to a night out yet-even the cinema would be nice, cos of my hyperemesis in pregnancy i think the last time i graced a cinema was summer 2006!!!

Hersetta-hope Caitlins teeth come through soon and glad she had a good weekend being spoilt, my dads up this weekend so its spoiling time for C too! She is looking as gorgeous as ever and i'd be thankful about the bum shuffling as long as she doesn't get frustrated at not crawling, with C almost walking i'm going to be on my feet a lot i think

C hates the hoover so i'm a tad jealous of J's love affair with yours James!! After dh was mowing the lawn we've discovered he hates that too!!!

Callum loves talking and he can say mummy, daddy and his fav is "my daddeeeee" and "andad" (which melts my dad in seconds). I call C bubba sometimes and he's started to say mees-a-bubba (which reminds me of jaja binx from star wars )

As for tantrums he will sit and grit his teeth gums and make a i'm not impressed noise if you don't let him at the tv or talk on the phone-what wee monkeys we all have.

helibee · 21/05/2008 00:58

sorry i just realised what an epic post that was

helibee · 21/05/2008 01:01

p.s the medised was for his teeth and eczema not cos he was singing

Meandmyjoe · 21/05/2008 07:54

Hi all,

Just wanted to send my best wishes to Tasha. Hope you are doing OK. xxxxxxxx

We are all doing OK, Joseph has learned to do this strange dance when he hears music when he kind of wiggles his bum and shakes his head whilst smiling and giggling. It was so funny this morning as dh was singing the theme tune for Sesamea Street and Joseph was dancing to it and laughing!

Lizzie, my ds has been pulling himself up to stand and shuffling round furniture since he was 7 months and I really don't think there is any way I can stop it! If they are strong enough to stand then there's not much you can do. My dh walked at 9 months and was standing from 7 months too and there's nothing wrong with his legs so I'm guessing it's OK for my ds to do the same! Funny the things MIL say though, I've had to many little 'tips' and comments to even mention. Mostly they are just questions in a really shocked kind of voice eg 'Oooo you let him do that/ eat that?' I try and just ignore it!

Anyway, it's a lovely day here so we are off to enjoy it and Joe is shouting MAMAMAMAMA at the top of his voice so I'm thinking I've been on here too long!

Hope you are all well and lo's doing OK

shrinkingsagpuss · 21/05/2008 08:34

oh bless. i just read backa bit on the old thread.

Tasha. Hope it all went ok. If you want to talk to someone who's been through it, please do CAT me. It's a big decision, and hope you are ok.

Hersetta · 21/05/2008 08:58

Gill - really cute photos of Alex - super cheeky grin! Caitlin is addicted to shoes too. If you let her she shuffle over, throw herself towards them and try and stuff them in her mouth.

Helibee, Callum looks like a little corker too. Lovely rosey cheeks - is he teething badly? Sounds like his talling is coming along really well. When I got home from work last night Caitlin sat on my lap saying Mum mum Mum over and over again. DH came over and said dadada to her, she gave him a cheeky grin and said mum mum mum!!

She is also really getting into music too. She has starting to rock backwards and forwards when she hears music she likes which is really cute - although some of her choices leaves a lot to be desireed. Her favouroute is the theme tune from terry and June!!

I've uploaded a couple of pics taken this weekend on my profile. You can't tell but she was actually wearing a skirt and tights! Just the 3rd time in her life as I tend to keep her in trousers all the time.

My2Weegirls · 21/05/2008 20:03

not got much time just now - mega busy at work/home, so a vey quick post and will catch up later - especially all the photos.

tashsa - hope things went ok, thinking of you

hope everyone else is ok - take care

My2Weegirls · 21/05/2008 21:02

shrinking - love the elf outfit
hersetta - she's a cutie!
helibee - callum looks full of cheek.

dd2's next tooth is nearly through - thank goodness. been up about 4 times a night for the past few nights and inbetween that dd1 getting up for a pee/night light on/covers upside down/or sheepy is lost

right i'm off to bed - up for an hour at 12am last night then up for the day at 4.30am zzzzzzzzzzzz

conkertree · 22/05/2008 11:02

hi everyone - bit down in the dumps today - at work and its not all that busy so too much time to wish i was at home.

ds took a dive this morning trying to crawl and had a bleeding nose and i didnt even notice cause i was too busy getting ready for work - picked him up when he started crying but only noticed he was bleeding when dh came through with tissues .

feel guilty all the time that ds is being constantly sent from pillar to post - dh has him today but he has to take a school assembly so a friend has him for the morning- dont know how he will be with her cause he doesnt know her that well.

sorry being all me me me today. will get myself out of a silly mood and come back and post properly later.
