Sarah - that's a bugger about your DH and mum's jobs. Everyone seems to be tightening their belts at the moment. My DH is self employed and had no work at all for 3 months - it was great to have him around when Lo was tiny and he did loads of building in the house, but I am def having to go back to work earlier than I would have liked in order to ease the financial pressures. (yes Ty - both ginger and I start work wc 30th June) - DH is going to have to drive LO to my work for a breast feed for 2 weeks. That should be interesting!

Egg · 31/05/2008 11:54

Morning all. Sorry not been on the thread, been busy sorting out a meet up with my MN pals from my Zappata thread and we all got together at Chessington yesterday. Was lovely . Everyone was so lovely helping me feed babies and look out for DS1. I was v nervous but it all went ok and DS1 wasn't car sick.

Have lost touch with the thread a bit. Hope everyone is ok. DD is so much better. She is really making up for lost time now though and is eating at 10pm, about 2am and then again about 5:30am, which is not fun, but am happy she is eating so will humour her for now! She looks fatter already. DS2 never seems to make it past 5am now either but that's probably because he is such a pain to feed I give up before he has had enough and hopefully he will stop messing around and feed properly again soon! It is only 10 days til they are FIVE MONTHS OLD!

We are off on hols next Friday (same as Rozzy I think). Am excited but also nervous.

Sarah so sorry about your DH. That is such a big blow, esp after things were looking so good when he found a new job so quickly. Am sure he will find another one very soon but it is unwanted stress for you.

sallyforth · 31/05/2008 11:56

Hi everyone. DS feeding AGAIN - he is going through a growth spurt at present. So lots of time to say hi to people before my sis arrives - she is visiting this w/e.

Arhian - I am firmly convinced that feeding babies in bed is a lovely bonding experience and an ideal to strive towards we have one of those waterproof undersheets to protect our mattress from the (very occasional) vomitage

  • am glad my LO is not the only one making bizarre noises!
  • also lol at your DH learning to drive. I had to re-learn how to drive last year when stopped being able to use public transport, v stressful for DH who was "teaching" me - am still amazed our marriage survived this!!
  • hope you have a nice time with your PILs this w/e

saskia - congrats on Marcus' impressive weight/height gain. I am also starting to reminisce(?) events from 1 year ago when I first suspected I might be preg. I was on holiday at the time which rather limited the amount of alcohol I could drink... unfort all my friends also started suspecting I was preg... so much for keeping quiet for 12 weeks!! I am a terrible liar as well and I know they were all talking about the pg for weeks before I actually told them!

MissN - hope Henley is better now. I think it is great you want more kids. At the moment I can't even face the thought of procreation let alone going through all this again! hope all went well with counsellor yesterday.

thequietone - yes, my DS is also sleeping loads in the day with the growth spurt he's going through. tbh I think all this talk of growth spurts at set times is bollocks, babies go through growth spurts when they damn well please. at any rate my LO has evidently not read any of the textbooks on timing of growth spurts.

ginger/omy/sarah - v impressed at you guys going back to work. I feel my brain has been removed and replaced with fluff.

tyaca - lol at woman in gym. sounds like a sketch from Little Britain. hope you feel more cheery now.

Lucy - good luck with house / moving stuff. sounds v stressful.

rozzy - am jealous of your nice new jeans. high waisted defo seems the way forward. not that I have an actual waist anymore - it's more of a technical concept these days

Gill - oh no! at your LO not sleeping thru night anymore. how grown-up though to be teething already. they are developing so fast aren't they.

sarah - oh NO! at your DH job falling through. you must both be gutted. hope he is not too upset and finds something else soon. your poor mum, as well. my DH had a meeting with his boss this week and he is gonna be made redundant in a few months unless the financial situation changes. Great eh. Oh well, if I had any ambitions to be SAHM that's them scotched. (Not that we could afford it anyway tbh)

ljkk - did you see Shark on Channel 5 last night? twas really funny, they went to Mexico and got into rather dodgy dealings with undesirable characters, you get the impression Shark loved every minute... (apologies if you don't watch Shark but if you like crime shows I thought you might enjoy it)

and a general hello to all Feb-08-ers whether posting or not

sallyforth · 31/05/2008 11:58

oh and hello egg, so glad your DD is gaining weight and getting chubbier, that's great news x

lljkk · 31/05/2008 14:15

We did watch a bit of that Shark show last night, actually (saddo alert, I remember thinking it wasn't as bad as usual...)

Aack, had a terrible night. The baby is so windy, he can take hours to burp, and he cries when he burps or thinks he needs a burp, he fights it so much, it keeps him awake or wakes him up when he starts to drop off, and he ends up screaming about it. So most every post-feed period I have to spend ages getting him to burp. He's stopped sleeping long stretches at night ages ago, too... I am so shattered...

Aaack.
Baby intently watching DH eat scrambled eggs and toast as I write... I will try hard to hold off on solids for his sake, but he's certainly interested.

alkar · 31/05/2008 18:06

The builders haven't finished yet, it is now a week over what they said it would be and I think it will be another week yet. I haven't had a kitchen and washing machine for 2 weeks now. The guy that designed the kitchen got the measurements wrong so it doesn't fit. The manager is coming here on Monday to find out what happened and hopefully they can sort it out. I am sick of the house being a complete mess everywhere is full of dust, just glad we've done it before DS starts moving around.

Also, to top it all off DH dropped a massive plank of wood on me yesterday and I think I may have broken my toe. I don't want to go to get it checked out in case they say I can't drive for a few weeks, it was bad enough after a section I need my car too much now.

DS is 4 months old today. I have started giving him bits of food, just a couple of mouthfuls every other day and he loves it Regarding lotion for him, I just massage him with olive oil every night, we had to stop using johnsons bubble bath as it was giving him very dry skin.

Ahrian I have tried the new totsbots and I don't think I like them they take far too long to dry, I love fluffles!

Rozzy - highwaists seem to be the way to go, I think I will get looking for some

Sorry to here about your DHs job Sarah, hope something comes up soon

alkar · 31/05/2008 18:11

Anyone seen sex and the city yet? I went yesterday and loved it!

CountTo10 · 31/05/2008 20:08

Evening all!!

I've been trying to get through all the posts I've missed but still trying to catch up!!

MissNat - how was your counselling yesterday? Hope it was a good and positive start. I always think that first session is the worst as you're so nervous etc but once you've got passed that bit, you almost looking forward to it - or I did anyway but then I am a little odd!!!

Lotions - we don't really use lotions on a regular basis. We;ve used the johnsons nightcream as a massage before bed and then sudocrem with pink nappy area but apart from that nothing. With ds1 we used a lot of olive oil in the first 6mths and that as always the best one.

Ginger - are you sorted re washing machine? You never realise how much you rely on them!! I thought it was bad enough when our tumble dryer went, keep having to lug stuff up to the laundrette now it keeps raining all the time!!

We have no rolling here but lots of door creaking noises, grabbing hair and stiff boarding on our legs!! I was looking at ds1's record the other day and at this stage he was over 3lb heavier and I'd started weaning!!! Ds2 is some tme off that for now I think, he seems more than happy with his milk and only has between 30-35 oz a day.

CountTo10 · 31/05/2008 20:12

Seeing SATC in a couple of weeks with the girls. We're gonna have food and cocktails and make a night of it. I'm really looking forward to it as I loved the series. Went to see Indiana Jones and I have to say I was quite disappointed, it won't be a classic like the other 3 were, they've tried too hard to recreate it.

Meant to say that I've started egyptian belly dancing. I go with my mum and it's so much fun. Sposed to be really good for toning your abdominal area which can't hurt. it's so funny watching us all try and work out which bit we're sposed to be moving!!!

And my boobs are still rock solid and such a bizarre shape!!! I have to keep jumping in the shower and putting hot compresses on them to relieve them.

For those who have breastfed for a couple of months and then stopped, how long was it before your periods returned?

omy · 31/05/2008 20:14

lljkk - why don't you take your LO to a cranial osteopath. It really helped my LO with her wind. she burps brilliantly now! I can give you the details of the guy I went to if you want.

Sally - my brain is so full of fluff I am terrified of going back to work!

Egg! I thought you had abandoned us! So nice you had a good meetup and brilliant that your DD is getting fatter! I love fat babies!

gingermumi · 31/05/2008 20:39

Hiya,

still no time time to catch up properly, have spent last few days helping dd2 with college work and revision, we have been doing it all day every day! Mt brain is definitely mush now! Washing machine coming tomorrow! Yes, sunday, apparently insurance company have a deal with comet. Any time after 8am...hope it's not too early !

Sally - don't be too impressed! just 'cos i'm going back to work doesn't mean my brain is back to normal (see above!!).

Had better go and get dinner now, we might just eat before midnight. Have a good weekend all

leesmum · 01/06/2008 08:46

Hi everyone

Count how's it going with the formula and how are your boobs? I must admit that we are also considering going down that road. Lo is STILL messing about when i'm trying to feed him, this has been going on for a while now and each breast feed feels like a fight! I'm going to see what this week brings and then i might switch to formula as well. I love BF but am getting a bit disheartened with it all

Ginger i don't know how you have managed without a washing machine, i just hope you're not in all day waiting for it!

Omy are you looking forward to going back to work? and don't worry, by brain has been full of fluff for years now

Alkar it sound like daniel has taken to food quite well, what does he like? I bet you'll be glad to have your kitchen back?

Sarah i'm sorry your Dp is out of work again, hopefully he'll find something soon xx

lljkk we also have a very windy baby, but it is getting better, it's funny when they stare at you while you're eating isn't it?

Egg it sound like you had a lovely day out, and its great that your DD has started feeding better xx

Sally we seem to be on continuous growth spurt!

Has anyone heard off Bovril recently? I don't think she's been on for a while.

And if anyone want's a look i've added some more pic's on my profile. I've even put one on of Dp, he doesn't know i have though. I think in his deluded mind he might think you'll all fancy him lol

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 01/06/2008 09:17

Leesmum- love your pictures- tey are fav- the family one is lovely- we really must get on of us all!!!!

Had a great time yesterday we all went swimming at a public pool and it was fab- Rosie loved it and Harry is great with water anyway it was Daddy who found it all hard work!!!!lol

Leesmum, love the photo of Lee and James together - so cute. Daniel seems to like any food we try. Cos we've not got a kitchen at the moment I have been trying the packets and jars, he loved one that was sweet potato, pumpkin, apple and blueberry! We bought him a high chair which he loves to sit in and kick his legs and watch us

Well I have been to the hospital today and my toe is broken I can't walk on it or drive for 6 weeks. I am so with DH I know it was an accident but I feel like I've got my life back after a c-section and now I'm immobile again (dramatic I know!)

lljkk · 01/06/2008 17:49

Thanks for suggestion, omy, I'll consider it because the wind thing is a major hassle at the moment.

Gill79 · 01/06/2008 23:57

Finally caught up properly - nice to be back with you all. I'm finding things quite hard at the mo - LO is still being quite difficult and needing constant attention but I think it's more me IYKWIM. Have just lost all patience for singing and playing for hours at a time and felt today that I just might snap and SCREAM..... and he is really being so cute at the moment too poor lad.

Bellydancing!! I can't imagine a worse idea Count Am I right in thinking that you VOLUNTARILY take your tummy out and shake it around? It must be a lot prettier than mine just now.

I got my voucher from the council the other week and stocked up, mainly with prefolds. The other ones I've tried are motherease shaped nappies and I prefer the prefolds (they're MUCH cheaper too)

Did you go to the counsellor Miss Natalie? how did you get on?

Alkar do you mean no walking for six weeks or "just" no driving? Sounds a bit OTT. Bit of a blow.....

Leesmum do you have any idea why LO is fighting the boob? Hope you can continue if that's what you want.

Right bed time. At least DS and us now have different bedtimes -progress of a sort even if it takes two hours to get him to bed

Gill79 · 02/06/2008 00:00

BTW DS is sitting up really well at the mo - can stay up for a while even without propping, and can sit up from lying by pulling up on my fingers. No more signs of rolling yet and sill hates lying on tummy.

Egg · 02/06/2008 09:30

Hello all. Gill I know exactly what you mean. I have done a kind of "shouty whisper" at both babies a few times recently, telling them what i think of them as they are being such a pain at the mo . And then they smile and look at me all trustingly and I feel so bad. DS2 can be such a bugger to feed, and although DD is eating lots more now she is eating every 4 hours day and night, and sometimes more often, and she used to go at least 6 or 7 hours at night so it is a step backwards and v annoying, but I keep telling myself to be glad she is eating at all. Although she is doing so much better she still never takes more than 150ml, so never gets enough in during the day to make it through the night. DS2 had 340ml yesterday evening but then threw the whole lot back up (in three nice projectile vomits). Both babies very snotty again, after a couple of months snot-free. Am PRAYING they are ok at nursery today.

DS2 can sit up for about seconds unaided, but he is very slumped forward, ie chest on knees so not actually really SITTING. He stands very well though [proud], I can hold his hands and he stands on my lap for ages, whereas DD can do about 1 second before her knees bend. Both like to roll on their side but don't look close to getting any further anytime soon. DD has a new voice, which sounds like a strangled cat when she talks.

DS1 is an angel . He is such a sweetheart. I feel very proud of him. Have just secured another Blankie for him on ebay (at quite a ridiculous cost) as he is so obsessed with his and when is sick it is a PITA having to wait for the washing machine at 3am. Also the fear of losing it is terrifying.

Right I have tons and tons to get done today. House is a bombsite, got to go to Tesco, got to start packing for hols as will have no chance the rest of the week.

Sorry have lost track with everyone else's goings on so I apologise for just talking about me me me, I will be back on track now for this week .

Egg · 02/06/2008 09:33

lljkk - my DS2 sounds a bit like your lo. He needs about 12 burps per feed most of the time. THe only time he feeds well is when he is half asleep.

Leesmum, your DS2 sounds also like he does the same as mine, but with the boob instead. He fights it and fights it, saying he doesn't want it, so you put him down, then he screams saying "mummy I want my milk NOW" and takes it as though he has waited about 8 hours for me to offer, then takes about 4 mouthfuls and pushes it away, shaking his head from side to side. Then he needs a burp. Then we repeat the whole thing 20 times. An hour later he might be finished.

Am really going now, off to hoover.

Bessie123 · 02/06/2008 09:48

Oh no, I have spent weeks working really hard at breastfeeding and just when I thought I had got the hang of it and dd was feeding easily, it looks like I have mastitis have to go to doc surgery and wait for an appointment, but no milk is coming out of my right breast and it is a bit painful. LO was VERY unimpressed when I tried to feed her on it this morning.

Nobody answered my question - does anybody know what happened to LOVEMYMUM?

Gill - stop pretending your tummy is anything other than tiny; we've all seen the pictures on your profile and you are obviously v skinny

Count - I am also planning to start bellydancing classes; sounds better than running at the moment, for sure.

xx

tyaca · 02/06/2008 10:53

hiya bessie - IIRC Lovemymum went v quiet for a while. she popped in v briefly with a post maybe 6- 8 wks ago (first for ages) saying she'd had pnd and had gone to stay with her mum, but was back home and feeling a lot better. havent heard from her since

hi everyone else - will catch up and check in soon

Gill79 · 02/06/2008 11:12

Bessie - although there's not a huge amount of my tummy it is WRINKLY Really really wrinkly. Looking back at the last bump pic (on profile I think) I guess it's no surprise - the bump got so big so quick and I was small to start with. Believe me people would run screaming if I started waving it around.

Hope your boob gets better. I had a very sore and swollen boob the other day just on one side of it so fed LO on that side a lot and seemed to avert anything worse developing.

hi all.

Egg - so glad your dd is eating much better now! If it makes you feel any better ds3 is back to feeding every 3 hours at night and even more frequently in the day (so far today he's fed at 3, 6, 8.20 and 10.20). At least I only have one to deal with though.

He's also gone from doing one dirty nappy every day (or often every 2 days) to doing at least 3 a day for the last week. He's done 3 today already and it's not even lunchtime - not sure what's going on with him. He also seems to be confused about the light mornings and has been up early the last few days. I'm finding the frequent feeding, constant poohing, and early mornings a little bit wearing at the moment.

We are away on Friday too. DH doesn't get to choose when he takes his leave and we can't get away when he is actually on holiday so we're only away for the weekend. I've started making a little pile of stuff to take so I'm not running about too madly on Thursday night.

Leesmum - I found that when I moved ds2 onto 2 bottles a day he wasn't really keen on feeding from me anymore. He would just pull away and generally faff about. When I eventually gave up my boobs didn't even get uncomfortable which showed how little he was actually taking from me by the end. I was ready to stop though which is why I'd introduced the bottles so I was fine with it. I hope you manage to continue with the bf if that's what you want to do.

Anyway I'd better go for now. Local holiday here today so ds1 and ds2 are off nursery.
