Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
rozzyraspberry · 02/06/2008 11:30

Oh and I've not lost anything this week. Will stick my neck out and say I won't lose anything next week either since we're away this weekend so will weigh in again in a fortnight.

Egg · 02/06/2008 11:40

Oooh I forgot, I have gone PAST MY TARGET WEIGHT . I weighed myself yesterday and today and am only 8st. I think it is down to stress so not eating as much as normal.

Hope LOVEMYMUM is ok. There are still a few others MIA like PK as well.

Rozzy although not nice for you it does make me feel better that your DS is doing the same. DD is also pooing all the time, although thankfully not green like they were on the Cow & Gate. But it is very annoying, esp at night when I only have a really dim light on to feed her and then have to put the bright light on to make sure I don't miss all the poo, so then DS2 gets annoyed. Wishing I had enough space to put them in different rooms as they are constantly waking each other up, despite sometimes sleeping through the other one's yelling and look obliviously peaceful.

My tummy is not huge but is also rather wringly, ok if i am standing very upright but as soon as I lean a bit it is very elephant-like.

afternoon all. rubbish weather here in s london - but managed to get out for a walk before the rain started.

updating the weight chart - lost the pound i put on last week plus two more. not run for a fortnight cause of achilles ... but yesterday managed 5k no pain so feeling a lot better about that and counting hours til DH home and i can get out to do some excerise again. who would have thought that all i needed to get addicted to excerise was months of domestic containment....

bessie - did you get to see a dr today? touch wood all's fine and easily sortable. btw - we have the same start weights and end targets.... tho you nearer the latter than i am.

sarah - v sorry to hear about your dh's job. anything else on the horizon?

re lovemymum, pk etc - yeh, you do wonder how they;re doing. i guess there's a natural rythym (god, so have no clue how to spell that right now) to these ante/post natal threads, and prob no surprise that everyone a lot quiter// MIA than they were in those months and weeks before our LO's made their collective entrances. but then when it people who've said they're feeling low then go awol it's a dif story. hopefully they just v busy and/or lost interest in us rather than anything more serious.

egg - i seem to recall that you managed to conjure up loads of people just by mentioning them here a few weeks ago, perhaps it time again for similar cyber-psychic tricks!

incidentally, i have always wondered what on earth the zappatas are. i always thought they were like the equally incomprehensible scuttlebuggers. do you think the fly ladies get together? perhaps for a nice night in watching kim and aggie on telly? tho on reflection, that would be too laid relaxing for them.

dh back at work today and my scratchy blue feeling has just gone up a notch. really really hoping its pmt and would love my periods to come back. gill, your comment about not wanting to play endlessly really struck a cord here. but then i feel bad, esp as dh seems to have unlimited amounts of playing in him. trying not to think that i'm contributing least to the family right now. such a silly moan when lots of people have far bigger things to worry about, but my brain is creaky and i am getting bored.

everyone's cloth nappy talk has got me curious and i think i am going to attempt the switch when we move next month. v jealous at those who get vouchers - neither my present local authority or the one we're going to run schemes. my little sister owes me a present and i asked her for a wonderoo and a bumgenius so i could try them out.... unfortunatley she flat out refused to buy me nappies for my b-day .

on the rolling - dd mananged to get onto her side last week. it seems to have been a one off tho. if i lie down and sit her just below my tummy, she can kind of sit for about 10secs, but that's with me shifting my weight to follow her movement. does anyone elses lo's cry in their sleep? dd has been quite upset without waking up a few times recently

how are you holding up alkar? i do not envy you one bit no-laundry, no kitchen plus broken toe. and leesmum, just to say lovely pics and lol at not telling dh about posting pic of him - my dh wouldn't be best pleased at my having put pics of him up here, albeit briefly

Egg · 02/06/2008 15:43

My weight has gone up again on that last list . Strange as I was already down to 8st 3 last week and on both Gill's post and Tyaca's post I am 8st 4...

Maybe it is just psychic as I have drunk a litre of chocolate milk today as well as eaten 4 portions of banana cake and a small bit of carrot cake (lots of fruit and veg in them tho ).

The Zappatas came about because there was a special offer on Quinny Zapp buggies at boots.com and we were all buying one, and then we stayed on the thread chatting and all got on well so once we filled that thread we started another and it went from there. Lovely bunch of ladies . My DS1 is going to marry Squonk's DD2 .

Egg · 02/06/2008 16:36

Tyaca I missed your sentence about feeling a bit low. I am the same as you and Gill, sometimes I just can't be bothered to be all smiley and play with DS1 or the DTs. I know when I do it cheers me up and I feel so much better seeing them smile but occasionally cbeebies has to go on while I sit on MN and moan... (ok cbeebies is on quite a lot, and even the DTs are addicted ).

On the rare times I am alone with just one of the DTs I have such a nice time playing one on one with them and they look so smiley and happy, but most of the time they get little fun from me... I tend to channel all of my "fun" energy into DS1.

At the weekends I do leave DH to play more with DS1 as he doesn't see him much in the week and so he is much more fun than me. If I am feeling crap I occasionally feel hurt that DS1 wants daddy more than mummy but tbh it is all swings and roundabouts and often he wants mummy more because mummy looks after him more (feeding, changing blaa blaa).

BTW, I was chatting on my Zappata thread earlier and worked out we need to take circa 150 nappies for our DCs for one week away .

Gill79 · 02/06/2008 16:55

hmmm DP's way of playing with DS is either jiggling him about in front of the TV or jiggling him about whilst reading the paper. Think he just doesn't really know what to do. He's much better with older kids though.

DS has just learned to pull his own hair - hooray! Make a change from pulling mine. Just got his passport pics done and he looks distinctly middle aged with his comb-over, double chin and diamond patterned tank top

Gill79 · 02/06/2008 16:56

Well done on breaking the target weight Egg!

gingermumi · 02/06/2008 17:58

Hope you're ok Bessie and you manage to sort the mastitis/bf out.

Have spent all day looking for outfit for christening this wkend. COuldn't find anything at all am sooooooooo fat! AND bosomy! Nothing fits, half the stuff made me look pregnant, not the look i was after!

My weight have stalled due to lack of exercise but hopefullly when dd2 has finished exams (and i don't spend all my time revising with her) we can go to gym again.

Lucyand2 · 02/06/2008 18:01

I can recommend moving house for losing weight! My new jeans are already falling down and I've only got my larger trousers out, no idea where most of my clothes are at the moment!
We still haven't got the new house confirmed so at the moment we are technically homeless as our lease expires on saturday and the removal is all booked (feeling a bit sick just typing that)
I've been working hard all weekend cleaning, packing, etc and am now exhausted - at least DD2 is only waking two times a night now.
I haven't had much time to catch up apart from a brief read over
Egg - congrats on the weight gain and i hope the sleeping goes back to normal soon (whatever normal is!) Also I am evil and often tell my DD2 to shut up when she refuses to go to sleep, oh well.
Ty - bumgenius are great, there's a good yahoo group for picking up cheap second hand nappies if you're interested
Alkar - hope the toe heals quickly, it is awful being stuck

princessllama · 02/06/2008 19:04

lucy you're sounding brave, well done. i remember the moving house nightmare with baby in tow and is no fun. similarly alkar, amazing you're doing so well. breaking a toe is stunningly painfull,(mine still aches occasionally 3 years later and im now wondering whether i should have not walked on it or driven!) my whole head aches when i think of dealing with babies and no kitchen
leesmum love the pictures. must add to my endless to do list to take some pics of all of us whilst ds so small.
egg nappyarama. can you buy them when you get there? they take up so much space. glad your dd has settled more. may have to borrow your dt's to shed some of the lard. the key seems to sit bolt upright all the time so you can't see the wrinkly roll. much like an elephant gill, (or elat as dd calls them)
tyaca-i forsee your sling addiction transferring to nappies. wish i had a craving for exercise. i sometimes have a mild urge to garden.
gingermumi have you learnt anything new with all the revision or is it all tedious? hows the saga with dd2's car?
sarah i hope another job comes up soon must be worrying for you all at the moment.
bessie has the mastitis cleared? sometimes it's impossible to clear the blocked duct but usually after hours and hours of sitting in the bath/shower v hot and lots of massage it goes. also, belladonna homeopathic remedy is fab for it.
i think my dr now thinks i'm a lunatic. got an emergancy apt for ds last week as we were running out of his prescription milk and his reflux was getting worse too. next day i found tiny white dots inside his mouth with very red/roar patches. got another emergency apt as thought it was measles as ds had been crying lots too. after whole faffage of sitting in teeny weeny contagious room waiting before hand turned out it was thrush again. and he smiled the whole way through apt and gurgled and cood made me look complete fraud, obviously she didn't believe reflux was bad after that. but she did listen to his chest-and guess what! a new complaint! he has a heart murmur. im not bothered apart from having to schlep to cardiologist now. so many people have them, am pretty sure is nothing but dr wants me to get it checked.
even worse plus bad bad mummy, we had been at in laws for 2 days when suddenly thought that i should check how much milk left for ds as was going down quick. at 8.30pm saturday in middle of no where in countryside realised only had enough left for 3 more feeds max. not a good moment. phoned every chemist within 2 hour radius but all shut or had no idea what i was talking about 'neocate, what's that?!'
dh talking like something out of topgun or similar movie suggesting 'we should wing it' and see how long the milk lasted before leaving for 3and half hour journey home made me really cross as ds so unpredictable could be 2 hours or 4 between feeds and what if we broke down with no milk or got stuck in traffic. obviously had absolutely no right to get cross as all my fault but that didn't stop me so we had a blazing row. ahhh marital bliss. . we had to leave for london at 7am on sunday. dd missed out on her very first ever ride on a pony(blind and ancient belonging to the in laws neighbours) because of it, thank god she didn't know that as she is obsessed obsessed. dd was wired and grizzly as she was way over tired from a day out with grandparents. funny what you resort to long car journeys-entertained her by drawing snails on my hands yes, i was desperate.
anyway, we're all fine now and ds seems to be much happier with his meds. lots and lots of smiling and laughing which i love. no rolling though.

princessllama · 02/06/2008 19:04

wow. got carried away. sorry for long long long post

omy · 02/06/2008 19:18

Leesmum - what do you mean messing about when you feed him? My LO squirms and kicks a lot but it is much better when we lie down to feed. Much more relaxing for both of us. She is also not great if I am distracted by other people during a feed.

Alkar - broken toe! ouch! which toe? i think i might have broken my little toe but i cant be bothered to go to hospital as i don't think there is anything they can do for it - is there?

lljkk - Cranial osteopath is Philip Roe in notting hill ph: 02072298144 - it worked brilliantly for LO - she has only had one session!

Bessie - mastitis! oh no!! i hope it clears up fast!

Ginger - you are making me feel guilty about not revising with my DD1 - she has her GCSEs this week and I have no mental energy to help her - all I can do is keep cooking her meals and giving her massages!

Have a miserable cold as of yesterday.
I am also going on holiday next week - just me an LO all the way to Australia to see my family. I am dreading the long flight and jet lag. no sign of packing here yet - it is amazing how many nappies we get through! (guilt)

omy · 02/06/2008 19:21

Feeling v tired at the mo. LO has been waking once or twice a night since she was born and usually I am fine about it but last night when she woke for the 6am feed I felt like a log - I think it is because I have a cold at the moment. Also I have had a few late nights lately - LO goes to bad at about 8pm and I was going soon after, but I have had a few 11pms lately - not a good idea!!

rozzyraspberry · 02/06/2008 21:08

My god omy - Australia - how exciting!! Will be lovely to see your family too.

You'll be able to get the nappies there Egg - would think you have enough to pack into your car without that bulk!!

I lost lots of weight when we moved house 2.5 years ago Lucy. Unfortuneately there are too many nice bakeries in the town we live in now (not much else though) so put it all back on then some.

Tyaca - glad your achilles is feeling better.

The thread has been really busy today - don't have time right now to respond to everyone - just wanted to wave a hi!!

Got 7 dirty nappies from lo today. Think he's regressed to newborn again feeding and poohing all the time. And dh's gran had a fall at the weekend and on the way back from visiting her in hospital today someone in a 4x4 ran into the back of his car. So a crappy day all round here (no pun intended).

beansprout · 02/06/2008 21:16

Can really relate to not being all singing and dancing mummy and even feeling a bit cross and frustrated with ds2 sometimes. He has taken to fussing and biting when feeding which is a real PITA.

Am impressed that Malcolm can sit up, ds2 is a loooong way from any such antics. It's fine by me though, the longer he stays just where I put him, the better!

Hope that everyone with ailments feels better soon.

pobletsmum · 02/06/2008 21:27

Hello I'm back,

I've been having a bit of a miserble time, so preferred to keep away. I've started to catch up on a few messages though. DD is such a delight, I'm very, very lucky. If only I could say the same about DS (just turned 3)... We're struggling with hs behaviour. He's lovely most of the time, but then seems to turn into devil-child with very litte notice. I think we might be starting to make progress though.

It's great to read everyone's news and see that in so many ways, we're all in the same boat with our babies.

I hope to be able to post regularly again soon & catch up properly with everyone's news.

sallyforth · 02/06/2008 22:22

hello, i had a great w/e with sis - we took ds to the pub!!! lol.

ljkk/leesmum - we also have the wind problem - causes much distress all round!!

  • partly because ds messes around so much during feedings - have got fed up now, I try to burp him and if that doesnt work I take him off and distract him till he's hungrier! mean maybe but the only way I can stay sane.

maybe part of it is nipple confusion as with rozzy - oh dear.

alkar - what a nightmare - hope things improve

Bessie - oh no, not mastitis!! quick, do the comb treatment (see kellymom.com) and it might go away.

lucy - good luck on the house!

pl - lol at snails on hands!

poblets - hello! nice to hear from you.

leesmum · 03/06/2008 08:05

Hi everyone, it's pissing down here! lol

Well DS2 is still messing about with the boob i'll explain a bit more...right he isn't too bad in the night so i thought that maybe DS1's shouting and laughing and generally all other distractions might be putting him off.I started taking him upstairs for a feed and he's still screaming and arching his back and arms and legs are all over the place. Could this be because he's been having bottles and prefers this over boob? Like you said Rozzy. Anyway last night i decided to express some and see if he'd take it out of a bottle, now i've not done this for a while but i think i might nkow what the problem is...it looked like dirty washing up water very grey and murky looking, needless to say i didn't give it to him. I'm gonna try agin later on and see if its the same, has anyone got any ideas what this could be? Anyway DP and i had a chat and he told me to do whatever i thought was best but i'm still gonna see what happens over the next few days before i stop BF altogether. So ANY suggestions will be gratefully recieved. I would be a bit sad to stop BF but i'm not anti-formula because Ds1 was formula fed and was fine, but i can't carry on like this, i'm shattered and DS2 is turning into a grumpy pants!!

Sorry for my self centered whinge!

As for weight loss, i have lost nothing, so must try harder this week, Well done EGG i'm very jealous, you sound a bit happier this week xxx

Omy where are you going in Oz? We have family in Katherine in the Northern Territory, its very isolated there. We went over years ago and also went to Brisbane and Sydney which was wonderful. When do you go?

Bessie i hope the Mastitis clears up soon, you have my sympathies xxx

Alkar how's the toe? no driving for 6 weeks, thats a bummer i think your Dp needs to treat you BIG style

Poblets it's lovely to hear from you, And we never had terrible two's just cockey/arrogant/argumentative/rude/ignorant three's no its not that bad!! i'm just kidding with you but i do think they get very assertive at that age xxx

Princess lol @ snails, the things we do to keep them happy!

Hi Gill,Lucy,Ginger,Sally,Beany,Rozzy and Egg how are you all doing my cyber mates?? i must go it's taken me ages to do this and even DS1 has just said "Are we getting dressed today mum?" how bad is that?? i'll be back later to catch up with anyone i've missed xxx

beansprout · 03/06/2008 08:26

Just wanted to say to Leesmum - our milk looks very watery, with a blue tinge so "washing up water" describes it very well!! Don't compare yourself to a cow!!

As for the arching, that could be for all sorts of reasons. Perhaps start another thread so you get as many tips as possible? I think that when ds2 is agitated, I get agitated too and then we are in a loop. It's really frustrating when they are fussing - it can be uncomfortable, especially when they are grabbing at you too. What would be the best option for you? Would you ideally like to mixed feed?

Oh and yes, ds2 is squealing like a stuck pig too. We call it the Pterodactyl phase.....

beansprout · 03/06/2008 08:35

Oh and well done on the weight loss Egg!!

Egg · 03/06/2008 11:08

Ooh I remember expressed milk in a bottle looked almost blue, esp if it was just the foremilk. Looks even more like that when you are used to seeing formula in a bottle.

Princess so sorry to hear about the nightmare times you have been having and about the heart murmur. As you say it is quite common but still something you don't want / need. I am worried about running out of plain old Aptamil when we are away and I can get that a lot more easily (DD is for some reason only drinking cartons not powder so we have to pack quite a few of them!).

Bessie I hope the mastitis is clearing up ok. Strangely I was for some reason thinking today that I wished I had given breast feeding a better go (no idea why, would have meant less sleep and more stress than I had anyway...) but thinking about things like mastitis makes me realise it is such hard work.

Lucy fingers crossed your house comes through in time. I would be terrified.

Omy you are very brave, although at least your LO is young as I think it is far easier flying with smaller ones. DS1 was ok at 8 months but a nightmare at 20 months. Not as far as Oz tho!

Got to go as DS1 wants me to chase him but will finish this later on.

sallyforth · 03/06/2008 11:51

Hi leesmum! just wanted to say, dont worry about the appearance of your milk, I'm sure it's fine! can't give any answers on the arching thing, my DS does it too. there is 1 thing which helps me and 1 thing I am going to try

  • when he messes around it stresses me out and so I dont let down so well, so he gets more and more fussy. I found if I distract him for 5 mins (rock/sing/play - try and make him smile or at least stop crying) then he will often feed better because I am more relaxed and let down better. Last resort is to put him in the sling and "walk" him to sleep so he has a nap and I get a break.
  • I am going to try and cut down on the amount he gets in his regular bottles with a view to eventually cutting out the bottles altogether.

But everyone's different - def post in the bf forum to ge advice from tiktok (who is FAB) but also try to get face to face help. See if you can find a IBCLC near you www.lcgb.org/locallc.htm, or if you can't afford/can't access, go to a baby cafe - which is free! www.thebabycafe.co.uk/L/BC_Nearest.php.

Haylstones · 03/06/2008 14:06

Hi alll, haven't posted fpr what seems like ages and it takes me ages to catch up!
Feeling a bit miserable tbh- got a stinking cold (I never ever get the cold!) and I'm not really talking to dh as he forgot our anniversary- I got the day wrong and gave him his pressie the day before so he had plenty of warning!
Bad experience at baby clinic today, got thread somewhere on it but basically I'm now worrying about ds's rapid weight gain (20lb6 at 14 weeks!)
Am off to be more positive now despite the rain.. Going to Devon for weekend so lots of packing and organising to do

Haylstones · 03/06/2008 14:07

Ds does fussing during feeds as well, I'm never really sure why but he gets especially windy during the night and I'm sure that wakes him up more than hunger. I'm using INfacol but am not sure it is helping- does anyone else use anything?

(EBM looks really yucky, am sure it tastes Ok though!)
