you can use BF if you don't mind getting pregnant again I believe you need to be feeding about 8 times a day to get some form of contraception even then who knows!

You can take the mini-pill while BF. Or cap. Or femedon

Denny185 · 09/06/2008 13:10

Thanks 4 the reminder knitter - done

Sagitta it does generally get easier, although ive got to say i still have days where i have melt downs. When people say I don't know how u cope with 3 my response is often 'nor do i'.

Eva, Aeryn wasn't keen on being put down awake and did take a couple of weeks of 'training', reg going in re-assuring, wind mobile up, cuddle put back down. Grad increased time between going in and reuced time of cuddle. Initially used to take about an hour to go off now down to about 5 mins and rarely need to go back in to her.

luckymummy74 · 09/06/2008 13:29

denny so glad to read that you have 'meltdowns', I have been feeling very inadequate next to you potty training, and school running aswell as everything else you do..... Obviously I don't want you to have melt downs but at least it makes me feel more human . I did feel very chuffed with myself as I took them both tp church yesterday on my own, DD1 in buggy and DD2 in sling, a 20 min walk there and an hour long service then a 20 min walk home....they were both good as gold, even DD1...so she had a few choc buttons after lunch . DD2 then slept for 3+ hours in the pram in the shade in garden while we played with DD1 in the garden. It was lovely.

DD2 also wakes at 3/4am regardless of what time she has last feed of the eveing. I used to try and wean her out til as late as possible in the hope she would then go til 6/7am, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I have realised that I actually prefer feeding in the night when DH is at work, and I know this sounds awful, but I just get on with it happiy on my own, but when I have had to get up and feed and he is snoozing peacefully next to me, I just feel wound up and jealous that I have to do this and he can just stay asleep . Is that awful??!!

eva07 I hope things pick up for you too, there is nothing worse than baby who doesn't sleep....thinking of you. Maybe try the controlled crying thing as denny suggested. I did it with DD1, started at 20 mins and within a few days was down to 5 mins and then eventually she just went down wth no trouble, and still does now, aged 2.

PeachyWontLieToYou · 09/06/2008 13:31

Ah its abstinence here! sadly. Bas still hasnt managed to settle without being held- and I mean for the duration of the sllep, put him down and off he goes. He caused a right scene in tesco today, some old lady got hufy about my uinhappy baby . I know that if I pop him down (only for essentials- aking oys breakfast, putting on clothes) then he will scream. It's eally starting to get to us actually, in all honesty- no amount of trying to train / settle has worked (and i am hardly new to this). add in that ds1 has taken to trying to pick up baby and last night was found holding him by one arm, then I even have to take him to the loo for his own safety.

sorry for whinge- after tesco incident and add in severe tiredness am feeling a bit aaarrrrgggghhhhhhh about it all!.

scorpio1 · 09/06/2008 13:34

luckymummy - do you breastfeed? just pop baby in bed next to you and you hardly have to move. then when finished just plonk her back in her bed. you dont have to get 'up' to feed then

Lol @ femedon, i have never ever seen one in rl. pill i think....i dont want the next one too close to millie, 18 months is the closest and will come off contraception around xmas i think anyway.

scorpio1 · 09/06/2008 13:35

Peachy that sounds really hard work. i am guessing you have a sling to help you?

PeachyWontLieToYou · 09/06/2008 13:41

actually scorpio we only got him to accept the sling last week (he evewn refuses the pram- both of ythem- I have never known a baby do that!). But being clumsy I am wary of the sling sometimes eg when cooking, or you cant really use them if youre bending over and I really need a spring clean!

I do wonder if its his eyesight or hearing making him edgy- we have to discuss that at the postnatal but they are ten weeks here (so next week).

Would be easier if ds1 would just cut it out, at least he was safe, even if crying, before.

scorpio1 · 09/06/2008 13:47

peachy i hope you sort it.

my kittens

Mum2BabyRoo · 09/06/2008 13:50

I have the same problem as you Eva - and am probably as tired as you right now too... also looking for ideas...

scorpio1 · 09/06/2008 13:51

vibrating chair? An Amby? (google it or ebay) do you give them a bath? ask about baby massage, Cranial osteopathy?

Mum2BabyRoo · 09/06/2008 13:55

Awwwww Scorpio - I want one!!!!!! SOOOO cute!

scorpio1 · 09/06/2008 13:55

white noise cd Peachy?

PeachyWontLieToYou · 09/06/2008 13:57

white noise works for Bas but makes ds1 meltdown (really appreciate the idea though!)

i hae to accept i think and when i am less tired it doesnt seem so bad iyswim

Denny185 · 09/06/2008 13:57

Peachy that sounds really hard work no wonder your struggling, DD1 was like that - used to do ironing etc with her in a sling and sleep with her on my chest. It drove me to distraction and I didn't have 3 other children to look after. I do hope he starts to settle a bit for you soon. Nb the only thing that worked for DD1 was a battery operated swing in front of football

Luckymummy - yes I have meltdowns too, one this am as trying to get everyone ready for am out. DS and DD2 screaming and DD1 v reluctant to do hair, had to count to 10 several times over. Needless to say we were late 4 school today. BTW I know exactly what you mean feeling that way with DH, when Mr Denny came home from his stag do moaning about aching legs and bruises from paintballing, my response was 'if you want sympathy u can f**k off youv'e just had 3 days off!'. I know he's the main bread winner entitled to free time etc I just sometimes wish I could have that luxury - as u know if I go away for weekend the kids usually come too.

Sagitta, tip for survival - pre-pare all food and drink for the day as early as u can then if DD1 needs lunch at same time as DD2 needs feeding it's easier. At the end of the day everything else can wait but food can't

scorpio1 · 09/06/2008 13:59

peachy it must be so hard, everyone having such different and complex needs iyswim. i'm sure you will sort it as you know what you are doing by now, lol!

Denny185 · 09/06/2008 14:03

DS fell asleep in car on way home earlier so put him to bed, no nappy on, just been in to check, either a massive fart or he's poo'd in his sleep. Dam and blast.

VictorianSqualor · 09/06/2008 18:06

Peachy

Scorpio, read kellymom about breastfeeding as contraception
I would possibly use it, but started my pill today.

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 09/06/2008 18:14

it doesnt say about what sort of length though and millie goes at least 6 hours nightly, more normally 9ish.

the rest of the time, as she wants. I do feel very pmt-ish already.

luckymummy74 · 09/06/2008 18:36

peachy I feel for you, DD2 is like that sometimes but generally only for a few hours a day, generally this time in the evening (like now!) I struggle with it for that relatively short period of time, and I only have one other DD, goodness knows how you are coping?? All I can say, as you well know as you have other kids, it will come to an end ONE DAY...let's just hope it's sooner rather than later.

scorpio Yes I do BF, and I do sometimes feed DD2 lying on my side, I had a few 'latching on' probs a couple of weeks ago so lost my confidence a bit doing it, but have done a bit since, just never feel she feeds as well. I do however love that feeling of dozing in my sleep while my beautiful little girl suckles away .

denny LOL- I can just imagine Mr Denny having the balls to moan after 3 days away!!! But hey, don't forget we have our weekend away with the girls in Bath at the end of the year to look forward to . I think you'll probably have to come to mine on the Thursday night too so that we can drive to my folks then get the train from there on the Friday, so he'll have 3 days and 3 nights of 3 kids then . Maybe you should get back and moan about how much your feet ache from all the shopping .

Denny185 · 09/06/2008 19:45

He he he, that would go down a treat.

Had a shit pm, DD2 had her 6 week check (finally) and first jabs but some bright spark made them an hour apart, Drs running late so ended up being 90 mins apart. An hour of which i had all 3 there before mum finished work and took the other 2 off.
DH on lates so home to do tea and baths on tod, Aeryn v tetchy this pm (still not in bed, perched on shoulder) and DS decides it's the night to play up, throwing stuff down the toilet whilst waiting for the bath to run. On the forth lot he got put to bed with no bath - cue 2 screaming children.

Still have 1 to get to bed and get stuff ready for tomorrow, sod the todying up tonight.

positive · 09/06/2008 21:11

Hi everyone,

I had been on the due April 2008 list but stopped posting but had kept reading the posts.
Just wanted to say congrats to everyone for making it over here.

VictorianSqualor · 10/06/2008 08:08

I had one of those nights too Denny, DD&DS started scrapping in the garden and one thing i will not tolerate is fighting, so they both got sent to bed at about 6pm.
Neither of them was asleep befor 9 though and they were really annoying me in and out of bed 'I need the tooooooooooooooooiiiiileeeeeeeeeet'
'i'm thirrrrrrrrrrrrsty' 'i can't sleeeeeeeep'
Plus Alex was being a rascal, the heat was bothering him s o he go really fretful and kept pulling off during his feed.
Today is a new day though, so fingers crossed!

Also quite chuffed, we were planning on going to download festival this time a couple of months ago, but there is no way I'm leaving Lex yet and it's this weekend, but we found out wakestock is going to be quite good and only round the corner from us, plus they do day tickets so we are going there for the day at the end of the month, dp is going to speak to his mum today see if she'll have the DC's and ask his brother if he'll pick us up when it finishes.

OP posts:
PeachyWontLieToYou · 10/06/2008 09:34

vs bas does that feeding on hot days- its the body heat i think maing him uncomfy, try a muslin between you and Alex, might help

off to get Bas weighed this morning, no doubt fun as ever (I loike baby club though), then helping at pta sports day this afternoon- oh joy..... dh will be sat close by with ds4 waiting to deliver him for feeds... only 4 out of 205 famillies agreed to help, 2 pregnant ones, the local Pastor and me with a newborn

scorpio1 · 10/06/2008 09:37

ours didnt go to sleep until 9-ish either, too bloody light!

Mimi did 930-600 last night. lovely to be getting sleep. Though, is it ok for my boobs to go that long? they are very full and sometimes hard when i wake-up, she 'drains' them though when she does wake. and it all seems fine in the ay tie still, she is satisfied, pooing etc.

tis beautiful weather here today, im not sure what to do. i feel like having a lazy day but its baby club day today. but i do have a busy day on friday with friends so that may make up for it....and i dont actually have ap ushchair at the moment...sold the loola it went yesterday and not getting bug until friday so sling is my only option. baby club is about half an hour fast walk away.

Hope those of you with poor sleepers are doing ok today? not meant to sound patronising btw.

scorpio1 · 10/06/2008 09:39

Peachy its Reilly's sports day on friday. I don't even think dh will come, bloody work. he lives there at the mo....or so it feels.
