Does anyone else have this problem I'd appreciate any advice!

VictorianSqualor · 08/06/2008 10:26

I'd totally forget feeding in your own home can be like feeding in public.

DD had a sleepover last night, her BF came over, she's a darling thing but a bit of a terror at times, she is pure personification of the word 'Imp'

Anyway I just sat down to feed Lex his morning feed and noticed her gawping, bless her, she hasn't said anything but was fascinated!

Lex slept through again last night
Went to bed at about 9:40pm, and woke up for a feed at about 5:30am, then after that feed he went back down until I just got him up.

Sorry Molly I couldn't expand any further on the info youv'e been given, Aeryn tends to be more on and off when she's got a stuff nose or first feed in the morning when I have a faster let down (spurts when she comes off)

Thats good timings VS, I wish I could get Aeryn to take a later feed, she has last feed 6.30/7ish and then goes to bed, wakes normally between 3/4 for a feed. So theoretically if could get her to take a 10pm feed she should go through till 6. However theory and practise don't tally. I can't get her to take 10pm feed for love nor money, won't wake enough to latch on and tried EBM and dream feed - takes about 2oz and then wakes 3/4am anyway. So I guess I'm just going to have to wait for her to gradually extend her feed times.

LadyBee · 08/06/2008 11:24

Molly is there any chance your LO could be suffering from reflux while feeding? You might not see anything, it could just be coming up and going back down irritating her each time. Perhaps you could try feeding in a more upright position?
One other possibility, maybe you have a slow letdown and she's getting frustrated? My LO gets really upset sometimes in my evening feeds when my supply is low and he's not getting what he wants - always takes me too long to realise this and move him to the other side . Perhaps you could try priming your breasts before you put her on?
Not sure if either of these ideas are on the mark, but thought it worth suggesting anyway

scorpio1 · 08/06/2008 11:31

hi

at least they didnt ewwwwwww at you......

Mimi went 915-630!!

Sal22 · 08/06/2008 15:24

What considerate lo's you seem to have - now if only I could get Roelof to copy their sleeping patterns

However, my mil (who, btw, is doing my head in!) has decided she wants to sleep train him, and I'm just going to refuse. Because he's my baby and I'm childish. But I'm going to refuse anyway, and just because I'm childish I hope he wakes up twice a night just out of principle! Not that I think any of you would be that stupid, but just to be sure - never agree to mil's staying for a month and a half, however far they've come. Urgh.

On a more cheerful note, what a lovely day today has been! I had to change him into more summery clothes half way through the day - how great is that?!

VictorianSqualor · 08/06/2008 17:51

LMAO
We went to PiL's today and then came home for a BBQ.
Laying on te blanket with Alex I took his nappy off, and moved out of the way.
DD sat in front of him and he weed all over her.
She cried though

That's so funny, VS. I'm sure poor DD disagrees of course

Next baby massage class tomorrow - this time we're doing the tummy. I really look forward to that, as we struggle with wind and constipation sometimes.

scorpio1 · 08/06/2008 22:08

we are signed up for baby massage beginning of July, i did it with ds2 and really loved it.

Wahooo, 5 days till bugaboo. currently have no pushchair from today but have a sling and a car seat. no plans to do much anyway

scorpio1 · 08/06/2008 22:09

we are playing the wii, pmsl!

my 7 week pg mate is bleeding again though

Sal22 · 08/06/2008 22:32

What bugaboo are you getting, scorpio? After ages and ages deciding we got the bee and I love it - so easy to stear. (Oh, and I'm so glad it is nice, as DH wasn't really convinced but now likes it.)

So sorry to hear about your pg friend.

bigbadmom · 09/06/2008 00:00

Just crashing this thread as found myself with a rare few moments of time on my hands. Am mum of Wilf who is now five weeks and showing first signs of colic. Not sure if it's linked to my mild caffeine addiction or just a genetic trait. His sister Katty is 21 months now and had it too.

Anyway - couldn't resist posting when I saw that VS had Lex sleeping through the night at (I had to reference this) no more than 8 weeks. HOW HOW HOW?! What I would do for a full night's sleep. I know this fixation with sleeping thru the night is unhealthy and ultimately futile, but it still captivates me. Long may it last VS!
Just bought a multipack of Guinness and my friend gave me some HIPP drink for nursing mothers - perhaps with this plus a large stash of oatmeal and bran muffins I too will be a source of plentiful and nutritionally-rich milk and will manage to get my baby to sleep through the night. Rather doubt it though. Katty didn't sleep through til six months - despite being huge for her age. How heavy is Lex VS? Am presuming that weight is a factor here?

Speaking of calories, I tried to 'diet' a few days ago and ended up with full blown post natal depression. It came on really fast - I didn't eat properly one day AND didn't leave the house and the old endorphins going with a good walk to playgroup or wherever - and by 2pm I was a teary listless emotional wreck. All the symptoms were there - lack of engagement, low self esteem, feelings of being out of control, heightened anxiety and loss of concentration bla bla bla. So now I listen to my body everytime after a feed when it tells me to pop along to the fridge and pick out something delicious. It's not very hard work really. PND is scary when it hits though. Even though I've only had a tiny experience of it it was enough to realise how full-on it is. I literally couldn't string a sentence together by the time my DH came home. I usually have quite a good support network and tight structure of playgroups and meetings with friends etc - but on this particular day we'd been at home the whole day, me having eaten a couple of bits of fruit and nothing else (stupidly) and I think that it was this combined with a massive sense of isolation which triggered it. Have scheduled in some help for next week to avoid same thing happening again.

A lady I know who is 49 just miscarried at 22 weeks and had to endure an 18 hour labour to get the baby out. Makes me realise how lucky I am, despite the screaming and the saggy tum...

End of slightly obscure and sporadic posting...just didn't want to get forgotten about forever! Keep up all the posting, I love to read the threads from time to time. Tips on colic reduction much appreciated btw. Thanks.

VictorianSqualor · 09/06/2008 08:16

Hey bigbadmom.
Tbh, I think it's just luck with Lex. He doesn't do it every night, last night he was stirring at about 11:30 when I went to bed so I fed him then, he then woke up at 1:30 and again at about 5ish (he was woken up by DD then though) so it's not all the time, I think he's doing it about 3/4x a week though, which does help!

He's probably about 14lb by now, he was 13lb 10oz last Wednesday and he puts on a good few ounces a week. This isn't likely to impact on the amount his stomach can handle though, so probably not a factor at all.

Scorpio's Millie is sleeping about the same, if not better and is a couple of pounds lighter.

As long as you have a good day/night distinction, then by a few months they will pretty much automatically fall into a routine of going longer at night, all 3 of mine have done, good idea to put them down to sleep awake at night as well, so they get used to falling asleep by themselves, it's often that babies get put down asleep so can't settle themselves which gets poor mum feeding twenty times a night or rocking to sleep, with Lex as soon as he has had a feed I just swaddle him (brilliant for stopping him waking due to his startle reflex) and put him back.

The best way to stop colic is see if you can find out what's causing it but that's like a needle and a haystack, some docs don't even believe it exists let alone think it's caused by anything!

Try having a look on kellymom to see if you can pinpoint the cause. To ease it slightly warm water with brown sugar apparently helps, but I have no idea! Baby massage is a life saver too.

knackered today. Less than 3 hours sleep, A feeding every hour and a half, and both dcs to amuse all day today. Everyone has got a horrible cold and can't sleep. I'm scared...all of you with more than one dc, tell me its going to be OK!

VictorianSqualor · 09/06/2008 09:18

It does get better sagitta! I promise.

Just a quickie cos my mum & dad and their neighbour will be here soon, I have 2 messages to pass onto Ellie from Eva and Sagitta so far, any more before I put them into a card and post them to her? I'll leave it til the end of this week to send.

Messages to katiewignall at hotmail dot com please!

scorpio1 · 09/06/2008 10:45

Sagitta i promise on everything ever that it does get better. keep going, you're doing so well.

Mimi is under 11lb and sleeps 'through' i guess you could say. 920 - 615 again last night. my only tips are day and night distinction - put down awake, have a mini night time ritual - bath pjs boob basket is mine! it will not hurt them to cry for 2 mins (literally) when you put them down. i go in and put a dummy in her mouth. DO NOT look at them or talk or smile or anything in the night hours, once in that basket/cot whatever. make it boring. only change if pooed or sopping wet. use a good quality nappy for night-time if using disposables so you dont get leaks or anything.

boiling here and im so busy today, made £300 on ebay over the weekend so much posting!

Its a denim Bugaboo, coming on Friday.

scorpio1 · 09/06/2008 10:50

knitter - done

KnitterInTheNW · 09/06/2008 10:52

Thanks Scorpio

VictorianSqualor · 09/06/2008 10:54

elfsmummy · 09/06/2008 11:18

Morning all

molly have replied on your other thread - she sounds just like DD1

Elena has another cold so nights have gone down hill a little - she doesn't particularly want to feed but I think the breathing wakes her and a short breastfeed clears the nose! (usually all over my boob - TMI) Its only been twice a night so I shouldn't complain!

Am loving this sublime waether - off to sit outside. Enjoy your days

eva07 · 09/06/2008 11:21

sagitta - me too, not even 3 hours sleep last night.
putting nora down awake just doesn't work. neither during the day nor at night. she just gets really angry and cries and cries and cries... we swaddle her too but still have to hold and rock her to fall asleep although she's very tired, has a fresh nappy, has just fed and we winded her for half an hour or more.
more ideas anyone? I'm just so tired, the house is a mess and I can't think straight anymore.

scorpio1 · 09/06/2008 12:42

i have my PN check a week tomorrow and i have to sort out contraception - condoms not an option. What shall i have? Do not want coil, feel like its too invasive just yet, millie was a big baby for my bones iyswim and i dont want anyone poking down there yet.
