If it's any help, DS is around 13lb now and only has 3/4oz ebm when we go to bed. I'm sure he must take more than that when he feeds from me directly or he wouldn't grow so much! And he usually goes around 5/6 hours after that before he wakes for a night feed so it must be doing the trick.

Mollyfloss · 05/06/2008 14:11

Fleecy, about how long does he take when you bf him directly?

LadyBee · 05/06/2008 14:21

peachy - glad eyesight isn't being dismissed as your imagination..will it be investigated immediately or will you need to wait til he's a bit older?
That exercise class sounds quite similar to one that's being offered near me - I can't decide whether I can be bothered going. Think probably not, the hassle of getting to the park vs just going for a walk with pram by myself (plugged into ipod) doesn't seem worth it.

Velbels, my boy still takes a good hour to do a full feed - although that does include winding time in the middle. I think he's getting the bulk of his milk in the first 10-12 mins but stays on anywhere between 20-35 mins teh first side and then 10-20 the second. The time just ticks away...
Still, if there's somewhere I need to be and he's feeding I just stop him and try to finish the feed later on. It does mess him up a bit, I think, but that might be more because I'm often too much in a rush to get out the door so he doesn't get winded after those feeds and then we both pay later in teh afternoon

Scorpio - hope your DH's op goes ok tomorrow

Sagitta - DH deserves a telling off for complaining about tummy largeness..FFS it took 9 months for your tum to get big enough to hold the baby, it'll take a while for it to go down and unless you've got a personal chef/trainer/assistant/nanny I expect you've got a wee bit too much on your plate right now to be worrying about tummy-shrinking exercise. Suggest you ask him to provide you with the help mentioned above if it's such an issue for him.
btw..I'm still in some of my maternity clothes, as well as fitting back into some of my pre-preg clothes. Will be fetching the things I boxed up when enormously pregnant and v annoyed with nothing in my wardrobe fitting..hope some of it is now able to worn again!

PFJ - hope Jack is doing a little better?

I ended up taking minipill rather than implant..didn't realise it lasts for 3 years..even if they can take it out earlier. I've got a pill that you don't need to take at exactly the same time each day...which is a relief given how unregulated my days seem to be.
Oh Sal - I think I must have been one of the other mummies at the same big scream Sex & the City movie yesterday! (Greenwich??) I thought it was so funny, the way the babies would set each other off. It was like an audio Mexican wave of cries sweeping through the room. Good fun though, I'm definitely going again when they're showing something I want to see.
Can tell my hormones still not quite back to normal though, I cried/nearly cried 3 times in SATC - god, how pathetic. I'm not going out today, thank goodness, been out every day this week and also meeting a friend tomorrow (who has just gone on Mat leave, yay for her!)
Can't believe what happened to Sal's SIL..that's shocking! Not nutritious enough???

Odd about SA approach to childbirth (anecdotal)...NZ is much more lentil-weavy, felt very jealous of the care my SIL got, one dedicated midwife assigned to her for all prenatal & postnatal care as well as the delivery. Midwife-led suites seem to be the norm, private rooms with normal double beds etc. etc. Secretly hoping I'm back there for my next, not sure OH would agree though.

Benedict is doing well, he was weighed on Monday, 12lbs @ about 6 1/2 weeks. He's smiling and cooing like a champ - I love mornings with him when he's at his best. Still not sleeping much after 5pm and before 11pm though, although yesterday he went down at 10 and went til 4..just wish I'd gone to sleep at 10 myself..I kept thinking he'd wake up at 11.30 so was still pottering about at midnight.

PortAndLemon · 05/06/2008 14:54

Mmm, not everyone needs to feed at night until supply is established (I know at least one lucky sod woman whose DD slept through from birth and who bf with no problems) but if baby not gaining weight / questions over supply that should be the first thing to look at. Shocking advice from doctors.

LadyBee, DD doestn't like sleeping in the 6-11pm slot either. I'm hoping it will settle down soon (seem to remember it did with DS). Is that pill cerezette? I've been toying with the idea of that, but I tend to get lots of annoying breakthrough bleeding on the mini-pill. I suspect we'll end up relying on NFP, which I'm quite happy with once my periods come back as I ovulate nice and regularly, but am a bit twitchy about at the moment especially as DD doesn't nurse at night as much as DS did so i can't necessarily bank on ovulation taking as long as last time to start up again.

Went into Baby Gap for a sunhat for DD today, and found that the matching dress (which I'd been eyeing up for a while) was reduced so bought that too . She will look very cute in it, though, as her eyes seem to be staying blue (DS's had started to turn brown by 8 weeks).

sagitta · 05/06/2008 15:15

mum2babyroo - my brother sounds very similar. He has never seen where we live - and came on holiday just an hour away last month and didn't come round...

scorpio1 · 05/06/2008 16:20

Ooh i forgot to say, Reilly is 6 tomorrow

VictorianSqualor · 05/06/2008 16:37

Molly have a look here

I've picked up my script for the mini-pill today as well, thankfully has a three hour window to take it in.

i was on way home from school & a mum to three was walking along, put her buggy brake on (baby bout 9mths) to see to her 3 yr old. the brakes came off, buggy across the road and down 10ft drop-no-one could stop it. baby ok but my heart and hers was in her chest. i took her 3 yr old off for a bit. poor girl!

VictorianSqualor · 05/06/2008 16:47

OMG!
I dread to think what I'd have done.
I got all queasy and wobbly kneed earlier walking past a building site imagining something heavy falling off and squishing Alex

scorpio1 · 05/06/2008 16:48

i know i still am shaky now and i dont even know her very well.

KnitterInTheNW · 05/06/2008 16:52

I sent Ellie a facebook message a while ago, but have had no reply.

I have her home address from when I made her blanket, would it be an idea for you all to write a message and email it to me, then I'll print them all off and send them to her in a card, to let her know she's being missed?

My email is katiewignall at hotmail dot com.

scorpio1 · 05/06/2008 16:53

lovely idea knitter i will email later.

KnitterInTheNW · 05/06/2008 16:58

Can babies get hayfever? George is sneezing loads and his eyes are watery and a bit pink, and his nose is snuffly. That's how I am at the mo with hayfever. I don't think it's a cold, and if it is hayfever, what can I do to help him?

Sal22 · 05/06/2008 17:55

Ladybee - yep, Greenwich. It was quite funny, I had a couple of moments with tears running down my cheeks... in SATC!

PAL - I want a baby that sleeps through from birth next! Pretty please. Maybe if I'm on my best behavious from now on I'll get that lucky? . However, I had an extremely easy pregnancy, so shouldn't complain.

Sal22 · 05/06/2008 17:58

Oh, and Scorpio - how shocking!!! I don't know what I'd do if that happened. Guess hope and pray is all you can?! So glad all safe and well in the end.

Anything planned for Reilly's birthday tomorrow? Fingers crossed for this great weather to continue.

scorpio1 · 05/06/2008 18:00

no not much, dh has an op and we got him a wii so im not paying for a party too.

dh still not home am pissed off now.

Sal22 · 05/06/2008 18:31

ah, how cool, he'll love that! i've been itching to get the wii fit, but luckily sold out everywhere, so hopefully i'll get over this (which is strange, as i hate games) before it's back in stock.

PortAndLemon · 05/06/2008 18:56

VS, have you really shagged Dec-off-of-Ant-and-Dec? When was that?

VictorianSqualor · 05/06/2008 19:04

Fleecy · 05/06/2008 20:13

Hi Molly, DS feeds for around 20 mins a time, one side only because I have an oversupply. He did do a day of ten min feeds recently but that was a one off!

When I feed him at night I unlatch him while my milk lets down as it's very strong and chokes him and gives him wind. I have to let it spurt into a muslin or tea towel for a few minutes before putting him on again. I'm always surprised how much there is so goodness knows how much he takes in 20 mins when that includes the letdown! Must be more than the 3/4oz he has in the bottle.

VS, I looked at the kellymom link you posted for Molly. I was really surprised how little ebm they said is 'average'. I thought it was 2.5/3oz per lb of baby's weight for formula so at 13lb DS would have around 5ox each feed (7 feeds most days)if he was on formula but only 4oz ebm. Is that because the breastmilk is tailored to his individual needs so he doesn't need as much? Or am I just confused?!

Fleecy · 05/06/2008 20:14

That should have been '5oz each feed'. 5 ox would be a lot for anyone, let alone an 8wk old baby!

Rashmi2008 · 05/06/2008 20:16

Am a first time mum to a baby boy who is 6 weeks old (or should I say young!) today

Here are his stats

24 April: Vedant, first baby for Rashmi2008, 5lb 14oz @ 38+4

Am based in East London (Leytonstone) and it would be great to meet local mums cos I am getting to the stage of having adjusted to my son and would like to get out more

Sal22 · 05/06/2008 20:57

Hi and welcome, Rashmi2008. This is a great place to chat, but it might also be worth it to post on your local mumsnet if you want to meet local people - there seems to be regular meetup requests on my local topic, for example.

Denny185 · 05/06/2008 21:02

Welcome Rashmi2008, has your health visitor directed you to any post-natal groups in your area? Quite a lot of our local churches run groups and a local coffee shop has a bumps and bundles session, Im imagining most areas will have something it's worth an ask.

Scorio, at that buggy running away, would be one of your worst moments wouldnt it, glad the baby was ok and hope your heart is gradually coming out of your mouth.

VS - did u really is he that short in real life?

Knitter - I presume babies can get hayfever, they can get everything else that we can. If it is presume the only thing you could do would be to stay away from the irritants, could make for a boring summer though. I wonder if anti-hitamine would pass through in breast milk?

Went to clinic today and Aeryn is 13lb6oz, following her line nicely and we've had 2 poo's in the potty , several accidents as well but not a bad start.

scorpio1 · 05/06/2008 21:54

VS - sorry but ewwwwwww you have much better taste now, lol!

went to the supermarket (£94!!!) and DH card got declined. cue MUCH embarressment and going to the cashpoint with diff cards to get cash they had to move us to another till!!

i must have looked like a person who couldnt pay for it
