Hopefully denny the fact that she is aware will stop it being likely, was there any birth trauma last time?was she young?bad financial state? abusive relationship? single?etc
Most of the time it is a reaction to everything around you as well as the baby iyswim.
With DS1 I was totally different, besotted by him, same this time round, it's the interaction with baby that will show the difference between PND/Bbay blues to someone close, try to advise them not to suffocate her though.

That rash that moomins mentioned earlier.. it is normal and its called 'milk rash'. Normally triggered by dribbling and sicking up milk.
I think it was moomins that mentioned it.?

Jack has to stay in hospital even longer to be kept under observation. Then they have decided to check his kidneys again twice, once a week. One of these tests involves putting a wire tube up Jack's willy and and and... ok I was fainting and feeling sympathy for him at this point and missed the rest of the proceedure...
And the second means putting a slight radioactive dye in his blood and watching to see were it goes etc.

Bugger.

Denny185 · 29/05/2008 17:49

ouch poor bugger good job babies dont feel pain like us (apparently)

the thing about my friend that surprised everyone is he was a much wanted baby, tried 6 years and 2 mc, financially sound, good supportive family/dh etc. luckily they sought treatment v quickly but she was still on ad's for 6 months. this time round shes going to have a 20 month old to contend with as well.

PortAndLemon · 29/05/2008 17:57

That can often trigger a problem in itself -- "this baby was so wanted that I ought to be enjoying every moment, and if I'm actually finding it really hard there must be something wrong with me, so clearly I am just a bad parent".

moominsmummy · 29/05/2008 19:50

PFJ - so sorry jack has to has more tests - at least he won't remember all this (unlike you and your DP who will have worry lines etched on your face forever )

DS2s rash got worse so I went to see HV at baby weighing clinic (why? why? why?) well firstly DS2 has put on a whole lb in the last week so my enormous boobs seem to be doing their job. then showed her the baby's rash - HV very shocked and told me to get to GP asap - looks infected and is probably fungal (major problem for us as means DH won't be able to touch the baby as his immunesuppressed status makes him very susceptible to such infections). I then mention the night sweats - HV says I must talk to GP about this too as will probably need a blood test.

So i see the GP later this pm and he says rash is usual and although infected is not worth doing anything unless baby becomes unwell (temp, off food etc). he examined me and said night sweats are not common but it does happen and not to worry.

health visitor = drama queen

scorpio1 · 29/05/2008 20:08

oh yes she does sound like a drama queen - but fantastic weight gain!! just boobs you say?!

DH has grovelled big stylee.

My armpit lump really hurts and has got bigger. i had a shower and rubbed it down and hard. Breasts are fine though

Denny185 · 29/05/2008 22:01

Think id get that one checked out by your gp then (that will be easy with 4 kids in tow) could be a cyst or ingrown hair or anything really, better to be safe. Hope DH grovelled sufficiently.

ThePFJ · 29/05/2008 22:27

Well just saw Britain's Got Talent again tonight.. must say I am rooting for Signature all the way!

Just thought I'd say it to keep the conversation flowing. Am thinking about getting some sleep. Called DP at hospital and Jack's rash is slightly worse. It seems to be on the move alot with some areas clearing up a bit and others getting more and more covered o.O

scorpio1 · 30/05/2008 10:20

pfj - it sounds really difficult, poor you and poor jack. Can we help at all, send you anything, whatever?

Armpit still tender but not as lumpy. Wonder if i puled it or something breasts are still fine. Weird.

I am going to kill dss (not literally btw ) he just DOES NOT listen. he goes on about fighting and killing all the frigging time, his mum lets him watch all sorts which mine don't. i told him this morning enough of it now. he waited till i ws out of the room and then started again, but he looked over his shoulder to check first the little shite.he lied yesterday as well. he goes tomorrow am. DH is pissed off with him and i just think well why do you have him here then FFS, but i know it aint that simple.

Last day of 4 kids for me i do want 4 of my own though. get my bugaboo 2 weeks today hopefully

scorpio1 · 30/05/2008 10:22

ooh btw - saw that britain's got talent thing on gmtv this morning - PHWOOOARRRRRR those men!!!! the darky one though, dont do blondes. actually i have never even snogged a blond man. ever.

sagitta · 30/05/2008 10:58

Scamp - hope today is looking better for you. I think getting someone to do at least oe night for you is a great idea. You missed a night or two of sleep when you were in labour, didn't you? I found that really made things worse last time - you never catch up. Can you get DH to do one night, and mum do to another? Anyway, let us know i there's anything we can do...

I keep sleeping through the night feeds - ie with LO sucking away, and then I wake up and its 2 hours later and she's still there, sucking away. Is that a problem? Should I try to be awake , do you think? So I know what she's had and she doesn't get used to sleeping on me? Or should I just be grateful I can sleep through it?

Anyway, DH has given me a load of jobs to do today, so must get on...

PortAndLemon · 30/05/2008 10:59

I'd go for "be grateful you can sleep through it"

scorpio1 · 30/05/2008 11:24

me too

sagitta · 30/05/2008 12:47

fair enough! I still feel like crap though...

scorpio1 · 30/05/2008 14:26

god i am starving today, seriously.

and millie seems to feed for shorter times now but same intervals iyswim....normal?

VictorianSqualor · 30/05/2008 19:11

I am soooo tired.

Went to Reading today(to see VacantlyPretty), bus to oxford, train to reading, got on the train with some help (two huge steep steps up) and noticed there was nowhere I could put the buggy
Left it by the toilet and buggered off to sit down

Got to Reading, went to the park where they have an outdoor free paddling pool, what does Bobby do? STRIPS OFF NAKED and jumps in.

Thought as he was already wet I may as well let him carry on, so let him wear his pants in there, and Ella took her skirt and leggings off, I told her not to get her top wet though, then I notice her SWIMMING
So, miles away from home, Luckily I had a vest top under my jumper, so I tied the straps up behind her neck and made it into a top for her, dried them with Alex's blanket and decided to come home.

Got to the train station, train is delayed, so decide to get a different one, ended up back in Oxford 20minutes late, no bus home for nearly an hour so I thought Fuck it.

We went to MankyD's and got DP to pick us up, now I just want to sleep!!!

scorpio1 · 30/05/2008 19:38

@ mankyd's

sounds like a good day out lol @ ella swimming (sort of lol sort of on your behalf)

I didnt do much today, am bit knacked after the week and mimi decided to wake up at 340 and 510 last night...both times for feeds but 510 was top-up cos i think i re-settled her too early iyswim.

have sent dh to do the weekly shop and i have a bud here

My parents are in France today, looking at property

Denny185 · 30/05/2008 19:42

Bloody hell I thought my day was busy with parties and shopping but nothing compared to yours. BTW VS how come youve gone all purple?

Aeryn has only fed 4 times today (good long ones though) think I might pay for it and shell be up loads during the night. DH just finished 12hour shifts though so hes doing first feed tonight so i should be able to get more than 5 hours tonight.

Extra bonus DD1 out for whole day tomorrow with her friend to a theme park (friends bday treat, not reg occurance) so peace and quiet for the day

scorpio1 · 30/05/2008 19:48

Zac goes home tomorrow. as mean as you all might think i am, im happy. back to peace.

VictorianSqualor · 30/05/2008 20:35

Gone purple?

OP posts:
ThePFJ · 31/05/2008 00:13

Thanks for offering to help Scorpio, but there's nothing I can really think of asking for other than you lot keeping your fingers crossed. I saw a story on the ITN news tonight about a baby who died and was later discovered to have ecoli which Jack is recovering from. The story went on to say that they are researching why some babies succome to bacterial infections like ecoli (and mrsa I assume) and others don't. Not sure how I feel about the news story but I am so so glad I got Jack back to hospital when I did.. DP was sure it was colic and was reluctant to get Jack to the doctor.

Also the solictor got back to us and said unless the hospital screwed up on their treatment of Jack's MRSA, even if they gave it to him originally there isnt much chance of a good court case as Jack made a full recovery with no long term health problems. They have told me to write a letter to the hospital demanding an ex-gratia payment in compensation and hint at possibly going to the press.

What do you girls think?

Denny185 · 31/05/2008 08:43

Its up to u what course of action u decide to follow the only thing i would say is infections like MRSA are carried by lots of us and lay dormant, they only become a problem in v young/old or immune system compromised. Its quite possible that the lady or visitors to the next bed brought it in. If you and all the health care professionals who came into contact have been tested and come back clear Im not sure that u will get anywhere with persuing legal action - sorry probably not the answer you want to hear.

VS your name comes up purple everuone else is black

ThePFJ · 31/05/2008 08:57

Thats because you have clicked on VS's name before.

The only way Jack could have contracted his 'full blown MRSA' was via an open wound like his umbilicus which is where he tested positive (it was full blown because his blood and urine tested positive and also the swab of his bellybutton). The hospital consultants told me this. They said the only way he could have contracted it would be if someone carrying it stuck their finger into his belly button or inspected the cord as it was coming off. You have to be a bit disgusting to transfer it 'into' someone's body .. a bit like HIV. Yes 30% of us are transient carriers at some stage but we dont give it full blown to the people we come in contact with.

The only people to handle Jack's cord where me, my DP and the nurses/doctors/MW's at the hospital.

MRSA is known as the hospital super bug for a reason. It is most commonly contracted at hospitals via patients or health care workers not washing hands enough.

You know, I really think I've made up my mind now. Thanks for making me think about it Denny!

PortAndLemon · 31/05/2008 09:13

I wouldn't be demanding compensation, but I would put in an official complaint about how he presented at A&E with what you now know to be classic signs of MRSA but was sent home again. (also complain about their giving it too him in the first place, but you don't know/can't prove exactly who infected him and when, whereas it's a matter of record which muppets managed to misdiagnose him in A&E so at least you could get some extra training for them out of it.

Denny185 · 31/05/2008 09:36

If thats how he contracted it then fair enough, would agree with PAL though the issues of misdiagnosis in A&E need to be addressed and Id be after an official appology.
