M2BR and Knitter - yep, those hours (or the nightly ones) are ours too. However, we've been doing everything wrong, e.g. leaving him at the front (where it's light and noisy!) too late, changing nappy whether really needed or not at night, talking to him etc etc. So fingers crossed we'll get him into some sort of routine if we don't wake the poor thing up completely all the time!

Second night of bedtime routine to start now actually, so here's hoping. Good night, all.

scorpio1 · 26/05/2008 19:53

good luck!

VictorianSqualor · 26/05/2008 20:05

I do the same as Scorpio.

Bath, boob, bed by 9:30ish, when he wakes at night, pick him up, feed him, put him back, only change nappy if it really needs doing.

I make sure it's a proper good feed as well, babies can easily take a small feed, go back to sleep and then need another soon after, I never withhold a feed but do try to make sure it's a decent amount without much fuss, when I feel him stop suckling I kind of nudge him so he doesn't get a chance to get back into a deep sleep.

i tickle millie

Mum2BabyRoo · 26/05/2008 20:13

Okay - no nappy changing unless she really needs it. And I will try get her to have a good feed too. She is in her room for all her sleeps now - day and night - so hopefully that should help as well. She loves bathing but I read that it was bad to bath little babies every day as it dries their skin, so have kept it to 2 - 3 times a week at the moment. BTW - who here can bath baby by themselves? I take my hat off to you if you can! So far it has def been a 2 man operation - I am way to scared to try it alone! She is such a wiggly worm!!

scorpio1 · 26/05/2008 20:15

there is a hold where you do it one handed, you rest her neck on your forearm and hold them under their armpit iyswim. then you have a free hand for washing them.

Sal22 · 26/05/2008 20:53

Roelof fast asleep now

Mum2B, I don't know if you like having a bath or if you're more of a shower person, but if the former - my favourite way of bathing Roelof is to actually join him. Just make sure it's not too hot, and don't add bath products. Then I get in and kind of let him lie on / between my legs. He loves it, kicks his little legs around and also likes to "float" a little, with me holding his head above the water. Because his whole body is in the water, it also means he's really light, so very easy to hold.

Fleecy · 26/05/2008 21:20

VS, it is in the night he's windy so maybe that's it. He feeds on and off (but mostly on!) from around 5.30-7.30 in the evening and ends up in a drunken stupor so I put him to bed then. He then has a dream feed at 10/11pm and barely wakes for it then usually one feed in the night where he feeds for about 20 mins very sleepily.

I guess that's a lot of dozy feeding? Presumably it's best to keep it that way and he'll get better at feeding/digesting it rather than try to wake him up more for these feeds? He goes down awake for daytime sleeps but won't settle in the evenings unless he's fed to sleep (or very nearly).

Sal, if you bath with him, do you have trouble getting in and out or do you get your OH to hand him to you? I think I'd worry I'd slip (despite attractive plasticy non-slip mat we have in the bath for DD) and drop him!

Sal22 · 26/05/2008 21:50

Fleecy - I get DH to hand him to me once I'm in the bath, and then hands LO to him again once we're done "swimming" I haven't done it on my own, but I don't think it would be too hard, however, I would probaby lie him down on a towel on the ground, get in first, then only pick him up and lie on my lap once I'm actually in.

PeachyWontLieToYou · 27/05/2008 10:31

Bas has a sorta routine, but he really just has to fit in with the rest of us- what otger option is there? (Bar insanity obviously)

he's now a 'proper' Peach as he survived camping! n fact he seemed to love it, especially snuggling into the sleeping abg at the end of the day.

A bizarre thing happened whilsta way- my Mum was approached by a chap who used to dance in the West End suggesting that ds1 and ds2 needed dance tuition urgently due to phenomenal talent . Now, ds1 is a gymnast and was displaying all ovcer the floor (splits, rolls that kinda thing). DS2 isn'tau fairt with the moves but what chap said was he has stunning rhythm- that equates with what his music teacher says (he's switching to drum loessons from violin in September), but still . DS2 sings wella s well, as pointe dput by local male vpice choir, so maybe we're gonna be the next osmonds LOL

KnitterInTheNW · 27/05/2008 10:38

Morning ladies!

It's my 1st wedding anniversary today, this is what I looked like a year ago today, yes the weather was the same as it is today so we didn't get many outside pics. Not many people have photos of them in their wedding dress and wellies though do they! I just took a photo of a photograph so it's not the best.

scorpio1 · 27/05/2008 13:17

have just given mimi her lunch feed, dss is here, he is 6 but 16 iyswim. i got ready to feed and obv my nipple was out for about 2 secs. he looked at me and said ewwwww. i feel and and very upset.

scorpio1 · 27/05/2008 13:17

knitter what a fab pic!!

VictorianSqualor · 27/05/2008 13:20

Scorpio!
I hope you said something.
I fed Alex at DP's aunt's house the other day and was wondering how his cousin would react (he is 8 and a proper 'boy' iyswim) thankfully he said nothing, but I would have had to say something if he had.

Congrats Knitter, happy anniversary, and cool pic!

scorpio1 · 27/05/2008 13:21

he knows i BF, it has been fully explained, even though mine havent ever thought it was an issue.

i got very mad, he is in his room. i also feel very upset.

VictorianSqualor · 27/05/2008 13:26

Don't be upset, it's a typical reaction from a boy who hasn't ever seen anyone BF before to say eww to a woman's breast!

What's he like generally? How does his mother bring him up? Is he a little shit, or well behaved?

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 27/05/2008 13:29

umm, he has thousands of computer games and knows mcd's menu off by heart. his reading record is empty. you can guess....

i know i shouldnt get upset by it but i cant help it....hope dh backs me up later.

scorpio1 · 27/05/2008 13:31

does your dd think much of it? think they are same age

VictorianSqualor · 27/05/2008 13:34

DD saw me bf DS1, she was four then so is used to it, she is also very medical.
She could tell you the way the heart works, or where and what your kidneys are etc, so she asked all about the biological side of it.

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 27/05/2008 13:36

ahh i didnt know she was so old when ds was born. Reilly doesnt think of it at all, he is 6 next week and jamie loves telling me about it, they think its nice.

Mum2BabyRoo · 27/05/2008 13:37

Shame Scorpio - he probably thought he was just being funny or something.

Knitter - happy anniversary! Love the pic - hope that's one you framed!

So - last night. DD went down a little earlier but made up for it by keeping mommy awake from 2 - 4:30am!!! Then woke up again at 5:15am, and then again at 7am!! Only just gone down again now! I am shattered and will be joining her in zzz land shortly!

LadyBee · 27/05/2008 13:38

Hello ,
Do you mind a newbie joining? I've been scanning through this thread and have been overwhelmed to see other babies/mummies going through v similar stuff to me - so reassuring!
To introduce myself..I'm a first-timer, living in SE London and my little boy was born by emergency c-section at Queen Elizabeth Hospital just on 5 1/2 weeks ago at 9 lb 3 oz - he's now weighing in at 11lb at last measurement which I'm well chuffed with as am BFing and had a horrible time of it to start, cracks in 2 directions on one nipple which took forever to knit together and heal up..I'm nearly back in one piece now thank god.
What else..oh I'm a NZer but been here for a long time.

Talking of routines & wind...BabyBee is also suffering a lot of wind - even when I get several good burps out of him after feeding he still wakes himself up howling and gets very grizzly in the evenings. He also usually stays awake from 7-9.30/10/11 despite our best efforts to get him sleepy with bath and big feeds. He had been having a last feed at about 11-12 (with me desperate for him to finish so I could collapse on bed) and then sleeping til 4/5 and waking again at 7:30ish. But last night he conked out at 9:30 on OHs chest, slept until 4am for a feed, woke again at 6, soaked through so I changed him and gave him another feed after I'd expressed (4 oz, my most yet) and he slept on me until 9:30 this morning. He slept on me because I was too tired to change the bedding in his moses basket after he wet it but it does seem to help him sleep deeper that being flat on his back in MB, even with swaddling. We'll see whether that long 9:30-4 span happens again..would be great. Very odd though as I don't think I'd fed him after about 7:30..that's a long time for him to go without wanting to eat.
Babybee (Ben) also seems more comfortable sleeping on his side (in pram/MB) or front (on people). Starting at about 3 weeks, pretty much every time he goes on his back he either spits up no matter how long ago his feed was, or if he's asleep he does this choking, coughing, spluttering, swallowing routine - nothing comes out but it definitely sounds like he's refluxing and then it goes back down. It wakes him up if he's not properly asleep and seems to really irritate him. I've got my six-week GP check today so will ask about it then. Tilting MB doesn't seem to help much.
Well! Look at me just jumping right in there with mammoth post...got to get myself and sir sorted for getting the GP now. We'll be walking as not back driving yet and need to stretch my legs after rotten bank holiday weather.

scorpio1 · 27/05/2008 13:39

he knew he was being naughty.

VictorianSqualor · 27/05/2008 13:40

It is nice, it's wonderful.

A friend of mine when I fed DS1 was a bit funny about me feeding him. This is the same friend that I have mentioned on weaning threads before, started weaning her DD at 8-10weeks and went on and on about DS's weight because DS was 6weeks older, like it was a competition.

Her DS was a year older than DD, and he was really funny about it, he wouldn't say anything because I was pretty vocal about it but he pulled faces, as did she.

When children behave like this they are merely mirroring their parent's attitude, try not to let it bother you.
