Wonderful, have a great time, Scorpio!

Knitter - Rick Astley & Bananarama at 2:30 in the morning is just wrong, new baby or not, lol. Hope you've had time for a nap during the day.

We've just returned from pub lunch, with Roelof sleeping all the way through. He really loves going out for a walk in his buggy, should do it more often.

Hope you're all having a great weekend.

scorpio1 · 25/05/2008 15:46

Sal, how do you pronounce your baby's name please? so i get it right in my head, lol

scorpio1 · 25/05/2008 15:47

DH went to watch boxing today and has been roped in to fighting without specific fight training....he said he got out the car and they asked cos another fighter had dropped out. Im sure he took alot of persuading.. bloody men!! Im sure he will be fine

Sal22 · 25/05/2008 15:51

hehe, everyone's having trouble scorpio - the paediatrican tried persuading us to change it, as it's apparently "just cruel" when no-one would be able to pronounce it, lol. But it's a family (and very Afrikaans) name . It's pronounced "Rulof" (almost like Rudolph without the d).

Sal22 · 25/05/2008 15:54

lol scorpio! all men are crazy.

chipmonkey · 25/05/2008 20:01

at the paediatrician, Sal! He should not stick his beak in where names are concerned!

VictorianSqualor · 25/05/2008 20:13

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
What a bloody muppet DP is.
Went to his aunts house in rugby today, the whole family was there and on the way in terrible rain we got lost, called his brother who put me on to his uncle to get directions, DP really pisse3d off smacked the windscreen, not even particularly hard (I was bloody shocked he even hit it tbh, men)
Windscreen cracks, hugely, we have to pull over and call his uncle out, called RAC they say it won't smash so it's driveable but they are too busy to do anything so we had to drive it all the way home (50 miles!!) We put the kids in MiL's car just in case, but what a bloody prat.
He feels suitably ashamed.

Sal22 · 25/05/2008 21:37

Oh no, VS! I'm sure your DP feels a bit stupid about it now, I almost feel a little sorry for him But I repeat - all men are crazy!

chipmonkey, luckily i wasn't really fussed about paediatrician, as my mind was made up (it's my fil's full names, but roelof was also my brother's name - he died suddenly a couple of years ago). however, i still find it odd how complete strangers would feel free to say you should name your children something else - AFTER you've already decided. oh well, worse things in life i guess, and paed was brilliant medically, which is what really matters

VictorianSqualor · 25/05/2008 21:44

I like Roelof, DS is Bobby, and when I named him everyone was very Bobby??that's an old mans name etc.
It's my Dad's name, and everyone I meet now loves it

OP posts:
Sal22 · 25/05/2008 22:13

Thanks VS People are just stupid sometimes - what on earth's supposed to be wrong with Bobby (not that it had anything to do with them anyway, even if you decided to call him Stinky (my favourite for Roelof - he should be grateful for the name he got, hehe)??? I love it, and it's most def not an old man's name. Oh well, keeps them occupied I guess.

We're trying to get Roelof in some sort of routine now, so we've started with having a "bed time" (from tonight onwards). We've bathed him, fed him, read a story, and he's now fast asleep in his cot in his room (will move to moses basket in our room later when we go to bed). We've got a monitor, but only a sound one, so now we're sneaking into his room every 5 minutes to check if he's all right. Really funny actually.

chipmonkey · 25/05/2008 22:42

LOL at reading the baby a story, Sal, very PFB!

Sal22 · 25/05/2008 22:49

Blush Grin

VictorianSqualor · 26/05/2008 13:30

Woohoo!
I got a full nights sleep!
Alex went to bed at 9:30pm last night and woke up at 4:30am for a feed, I latched him on and fell back asleep until 10:30am

OP posts:
Fleecy · 26/05/2008 13:58

Wow VS - very jealous of your sleep. We thought we'd done well cos we slept until 8am this morning! DS is typically waking around 4/5am for a feed then going back to sleep until 6/7 which isn't too bad - except that sometimes he's windy and wakes himself up in the night pushing out some farts or a poo!

Have tried cutting out dairy and greens but neither worked so am now reintroducing them.

He doesn't seem to get wind from garlic or onions - what else might it be? He does seem to get windy when I eat eggs so I've stopped eating them but that doesn't seem to be enough. Any ideas?

Fleecy · 26/05/2008 13:59

Oh and HV came on Friday for Sebastian's six week check. He weighed 12lb3oz

VictorianSqualor · 26/05/2008 14:09

Is it mainly night times he is windy??
I notice Alex gets windy at about 5amish where he falls asleep on the breast/feeds when pretty much asleep and doesn't take it properly.

OP posts:
Sal22 · 26/05/2008 15:23

VS, that's amazing!!! I need you to come over for a sleepover and sort me and LO out

scorpio1 · 26/05/2008 17:03

Millie did 9-30 - 5am last night fed for a bit in bed whilst i dozed and she woke up about 9,

we took the brats children bowling today but that was not the best idea ever...

Sal22 · 26/05/2008 17:15

vs and scorpio (and anyone else??), do you think it's because of your routine, or how did Alex and Millie decide to have such great sleeping patterns? i'd love to get some tips, because that sounds just wonderful. do you try and keep them awake during the day, or did they get into this pattern naturally?

scorpio1 · 26/05/2008 17:19

no i don't try and keep her awake, that just leads to moody babies!

When the boys go to bed it is quieter; she has a bath most nights, a cuddle, boob (big big feed) and i put her straight to bed, awake or not, no later than 10pm.

at night i make it no fun for her - no talking, i dont even look at her if i can help it. she goes on boob in our bed (no lights or anything)and staright back in her bed when she has pulled off and i'm certain she wants no more.

i am just very matter of fact about her, thats the only way i can explain it. the last 2 babies have been like this because i got it so wrong the first time.

Sal22 · 26/05/2008 17:49

thanks scorpio.

luckymummy74 · 26/05/2008 17:53

Hi Denny
Missing you already!!! Lovely to see you.
Hope half term is OK, remember, if you get Colic, just nab some of Aeryn's infacol .

Mum2BabyRoo · 26/05/2008 18:34

Also jealous about all these routine babies! DD sleeps just fine during the day, but from 7pm to 10pm (the witching hours we call them) she's awake and grizzly and will not settle and then gets overtired even though we try everything - from holding her, to putting her in her bed to avoiding eye contact, to no talking, to being in a dark room. VERY tiring for all of us. Today we thought maybe we would try stimulate her a bit more so she stays awake a bit more during the day (and will then hopefully sleep a bit more tonight), but today was the day she got colic (I think) and spent most of screaming and awake without us having to stimulating her. Once she is asleep (about 10:30pm) she stays asleep until about 2am, has a feed, nappy change, sleeps some more until about 5am, again feed, nappy change and sleep until about 8am - another feed, nappy change and sleep. The it is on and off for the rest of the day until 7pm - 10pm when she will not settle. What am I doing wrong? Is it letting her sleep too much during the day?

scorpio1 · 26/05/2008 19:10

dont change her nappy that much in the night unless she is sore or has pooed. it wakes them up too much. will be fine if you use a good quality nappy.

does/will a bath calm her, make her sleepy?

KnitterInTheNW · 26/05/2008 19:16

M2BR, those timings are pretty much much what George is doing too. He tends to have a couple of awake/happy periods, one in the morning after the 8am ish feed and the other between about 7 & 10pm. He sleeps for most of the day and we have hit and miss nights, we've had a few where he's slept for 7 hours, quite a few 5 hour stretches, but the last few nights he's woken at 2ish and 5ish for feeds and been unsettled inbetween quite a lot. I've tried to get him to wake up more during the day so we can start a bedtime routine at a decent time, but there's no waking him up if he's tired! Or at least you can wake him up, but he's really miserable til he goes back to sleep again. He was 9 weeks on friday, but was 2.5 weeks early so he's really only 6.5 weeks IYSWIM.
