March 2007: Babies no longer: the road to Toddlerdom

1000 replies

MrLSG · 01/05/2008 22:50

MrsLSG suggested it, so her it is...

I've observed that calling Toby a baby isn't really accurate anymore, he (as one of the younger March babies - actually being born in April) is now toddlering (or is that staggering?), hence the title of the thread.

Sorry if Dad's aren't allowed around here: But Toby just loved joining in garden football with his big brother and dad earlier tonight.

great news kayz! Hope a happy 9 mths is ahead of you? How was your first pregnancy and delivery?

Another sunnyvday spent outside. Finn helping by raking and digging. Really he helped! What a star. He looks so cute in his shorts!

Am in serious pain atm guilty of having overdone it and spd has returned aaghh

Divastrop · 08/05/2008 22:20

congrats kayz

can i ask how many of you are still using a baby listener/monitor?mine has broken(thrown on the floor once too often methinks)and i am a nervous wreck thinking i wont hear Elsie, but dh thinks she doesnt need it anymore anyway.

kittywise · 08/05/2008 22:23

me diva! Each of the 'babies' has one in their rooms

Divastrop · 08/05/2008 22:30

ah,you see,i would be ok about dd2 now as she is in a bed and can open her door and shout me if needed, but i think a baby/toddler in a cot still needs one myself.thanks

TheBlonde · 08/05/2008 22:42

I don't use a monitor as our place is fairly open plan so DD is easy to hear

kayzisexpecting · 09/05/2008 06:36

Piffle, My pregnancy with Freddie was fine. If I hadn't have got a bump I wouldn't have thought I was pregnant. My first pregnancy symptom was going into labour. Delivery was normal but painful of course!!

We still use the monitor but only because we tend to get up before DS so we can hear when he wakes up.

Rosylily · 09/05/2008 06:58

Diva I never used the monitor, pesky kid doesn't leave my side long enough to warrant one! It's lying upstairs...I think it works. You can send me your address on facebook and I'll post it to you if you like.

I think we are at the most difficult stage now...unable to reason with them yet but they are very active. I can't keep up.

Yesterday I had to rescue ds2 because Hasan went with him into the toilet and was beating him up with the toilet brush..yuk yuk yuk, not hygenic! So while I cleaned the toilet and ds2 up, Hasan crawled out the (left open) back door and ate some soil. Argh

I am run ragged after these kids and house at the moment. I fell into bed last night body aching at 9.30/10 and then they start waking up at 4.30 with the birds. And it all starts all over again. Argh!

I would be skinny as a rake if I wasn't stuffing my face

Though ds1 described me to his pal the other day as 'loaded' referring to my muscles

dd said she liked the smell of my pyjamas ..'it's something to do with your boobs' hahahaha I must smell of milk to my kids

sigh, it's all me me me this morning.......

kittywise · 09/05/2008 07:19

Rosy, Ron too has a toilet interest. He's always got something in his mouth. Because I am slack I say to him "Ron what's in your mouth?" ( and I hold out my hand in a half-heated manner) he grins and runs off.

Buy some ear plugs from boots and get a night mask thing

kayzisexpecting · 09/05/2008 11:23

Is anyone else's child copying things you do?

I just had some crisps and when I finished them I rubbed my hands together and Freddie starting doing it. Also when I watched football at the weekend when I cheered he did too.

Divastrop · 09/05/2008 11:45

rosy-thanks but i have bought a new one now, just a cheap one,as i just couldnt relax last night.i would probably be able to hear elsie if she was screming but i would rather go and stich her dummy back in as soon as she stirs iyswim.

Elsie has started cleaning things with baby wipes, its so cute.

bethoo · 09/05/2008 12:21

i am shattered today! was up til way past my bedtime of 830 as mad dash around the house cleanign adn tidying as staying at parents and have friend come to house to feed my cats!

i am finding that due to the very hot weather Hayden has no appetite on an evening and sleeps from about 6 til the following morning which in a way is good for me but still should i be worried?

kittywise · 09/05/2008 13:15

No bethoo, count yourself very lucky

Divastrop · 09/05/2008 16:22

aye bethoo-very lucky

just realised what i put in my last post.i would just like to point out that i do not sew a dummy into my babies mouth

i just had a cuddle of next doors new baby girl.i couldnt remember how to hold a newborn.she is very cute and small

Callieco · 09/05/2008 20:29

Evenhope, didn't realise it was the Men C one you were at. Forgot that DS was a bit ahead in the vaccination stakes.

Kayz, glad you are ok. i had to go for an early scan with DS because of some mild spotting.

Isn't it lovely having warm weather? Oh I do love warm spring days, best tie of the year. That should be time obviously. The m key is playing up, think there is something stuck underneath it.

Am home almost alone as DP is away for work - it's quite nice! Cos he works from home, I hardly ever have the house to myself.

Was nice to hear from morocco the other day - hello if you are still reading!

I've got a Feast ice-cream in the freezer and just over a glass of wine in a bottle in the fridge, so am going to have a nice yummy evening (she says, feeling bit of flab hanging over trousers...). Really must start going to the gym again. I've been going to the physio for my knee and he is under the mistaken impression that I was a gym fiend before my knee got bad, but now I feel I have to live up to that image slightly and at least try and go once a week. I did get on my bike the other day to ride to work as DP had DS that day, and I really enjoyed it, although I must admit I got the train most of the (slightly uphill) way there as I was running late. Still, it's a start. Now where was that ice-cream again????

Piffle · 09/05/2008 22:06

callie do you ride with jordi on board? Finn adores the bike plus I dream having his hefty little body behind shifts more calories. Plus he tickles my bum which is cute.. Well the first couple of times!
Finn copies and adores songs with actions. Row row row your boat. Clap your hands and wiggle your fingers plus rubbadubbers theme tune? Bizarre.
plus hecsings da did do da etc
today lost my iPod went mental searching no luck. When Finn woke I asked him and he went straight to it. Hidden in a toy car fgs. Was not aware he knew what iPod meant ho hum
he is super cute!

kiwibella · 09/05/2008 23:52

we have lost misplaced our ipod Piffle, it's so frustrating. I have been thinking about checking the toy box .

The first thing we do every morning is Row your Boat. Kate makes me laugh every time because she starts waving her hands in the air and screaming as soon as the rhyme starts.

lovely hugs Diva... babies seem so foreign nowadays!! I can't remember my girl staying still.

Rosy, your kids are delightful {wink]. Go Muscles!!!

Hope you enjoyed your icecream / evening alone Callie .

I think I'll take Kitty's advice and find the earplugs .

Rosylily · 10/05/2008 15:39

ooh, bliss, ds is out at the cinema and the other three have all fallen asleep! What'll I do? Tidy this kip? or sit on mumsnet? eenie meenie minie mo......

Divastrop · 10/05/2008 16:25

rosy-what did you do in the end?

piffle-ds1 was looking for the sky remote this morning and said to me 'wheres the doofer?' and Elsie climbed on the settee and got it from under a cushion!

Rosylily · 10/05/2008 16:29

Diva I'm still here of course but I'm about to get up and tidy...yup....

spongecake · 10/05/2008 22:09

kay, that's good news, glad you are ok
have had terrible few days with ds as he hasn;t eaten for 2 days. The antibiotics, which he has had before have made him get the runs. he hasn't had this before and I have no idea how to deal with the nappies/ buckets- its a 2 man job he started being sick today- threw up in middle of being given medicine, and terrible tummy- even sicking up water- sorry if tmi, and really projectile at that dialite stuff the doc gave up. having spent the last month edging him off bf to no avail am now stalking him with boobs out

was relieved, if right response, to hear of tantrums. up to bed as usual last night, last cuddle on rocking chair, then-he spent 2 hours screaming "DA!" for down and pointing wildly at the floor/ door, finally making himself sick on me. feel guilty, but it wasn;t part of his sicky. was worried he was too young for tantrums and was going to be a nightmare.

tonight he scrambled off me and crawled up the stairs on his own and went into his room ready for bed.

spice, sounds a fantastic move to me lucky you

spongecake · 10/05/2008 23:02

where is everyone?

TheBlonde · 10/05/2008 23:51

I am here
Has everyone gone to bed?

Rosylily · 11/05/2008 06:57

Sponge that sounds really hard going. It is awful when they are so unwell. I hope you had a good night.

I would love more sleep. [tired]

Divastrop · 11/05/2008 10:53

sponge-its awful when they are ill.good to hear he was having tantrums though,i always tell myself the time to worry is when they go quiet and want to sleep all the time.how is he today?

sleep...thats that thing i do in bursts of 2 hours now, usually starting on the sofa around midnight then dh decides to go to bed at 2 am,then a small person decides to wake at 4 and 6 then i get up with all of them at 7.would love to have an uninterrupted evening with dh,but i dont think hes too bothered

kiwibella · 11/05/2008 12:32

ditto Diva... another month missed and I don't think my hubs is too bothered. Except at inopportune times or when I am exhausted.

Sponge how is your lo today? It's awful when these little people are unwell.

I need a solution for bf in this weather (that doesn't cost the earth). I'm sick of feeling like a fat, frumpy mummy in my big ts just so I am able to feed.

Everyone must be outdoors enjoying the sunshine .
