March 2007: Babies no longer: the road to Toddlerdom

1000 replies

MrLSG · 01/05/2008 22:50

MrsLSG suggested it, so her it is...

I've observed that calling Toby a baby isn't really accurate anymore, he (as one of the younger March babies - actually being born in April) is now toddlering (or is that staggering?), hence the title of the thread.

Sorry if Dad's aren't allowed around here: But Toby just loved joining in garden football with his big brother and dad earlier tonight.

Come to Brighton

Right off to a day at the hospital with dd1. Another round of injections and kidney scans.
Of joy

Divastrop · 07/05/2008 12:08

kitty-hope all goes well at the hospital.is he having just normal scans or those isotrope ones?

spice-i will swap you my dd1 for Elliot.she wants a new mother anyway, she hates me because she didnt get out of the bath untill 8.30 this morning, forgot to brush her teeth, and didnt have time to put her hair up,which was all my fault because she didnt hear me tell her to get out of the bath 3 times

i am starting to remember being that age,and feel a bit ashamed of being like that to my own mother now

kayz-i sent you a friend request on FB in case you are wondering who the strange woman is

i want to move to a proper seaside, but i wouldnt want to uproot the kids.their school is really good and i wouldnt like to risk them ending up at a crap one.thats the only reason i still live here.

Divastrop · 07/05/2008 12:09

kitty-i meant 'she'.now i know why dh gave me this keyboard,i keep missing letters out.

Piffle · 07/05/2008 12:15

Finn had exactly 3 tantrums. One in clarke waiting for shoes and one in ikea... And one at home.
And none since. I just walked away and left him
works everytime.
I cannot do tantrums as am too princessy myself!!!
went out on bike with Finn in the seat today. He loved it! My legs are dead. Am so chronically unfit.
well the weather is brill.
oh shame on me. I bought some hipp organic new bedtime milk with cereal and Finn had it as bedtime drink. Then his breastfeed afterwards to snoozy on...
he slept through

kittywise · 07/05/2008 16:04

Diva, it's a DMSA one. She had the dye injected in this morning and I have to go off again in half an hour for the scan.
I was proud of her as she didn't cry at all. The last time we had it done she screamed the place down!

They wrap her in a kind of winding sheet because she has to keep absolutely still. The scanner takes pictures of the kidneys layer by layer until a picture is built up. It takes about half an hour. The machine sort of moves around her body iyswim?

On a day like today it's lovely to be able to see the sea on our way to hospital

kayzisexpecting · 07/05/2008 16:08

Hi,

Diva, I went and had a look on the Mumsnet group thing and found you on there. I did wonder at first though.

I have had an awful day. I had some bleeding this morning so spent the whole morning at the hospital but no scan until tomorrow morning. MIL has been a lifesaver as she took us to the hospital as well as looked after DS. She is having him overnight tonight so we can go back tomorrow morning for my scan.

I hope you all have had much much better days.

Kitty, we can see the sea on the way to the hosital too. Made me very today as I'd much rather be playing on the beach.

fitfox · 07/05/2008 19:09

Kaz [massive hugs] - has the bleed stopped now then? Could it be cervical erosion?

fitfox · 07/05/2008 19:12

Div I have the same issue here. Got th kids into a fabby school nd I would be hard pressed to find another school as goo. Which means I have to live in th same place forever...

Hope your D1 had an OK day, Kitty, at the hossie - how dd it go?

DS1 and is friend ust found a dead beetle in the garden. So they buried it and made a sign for the grave saying RIP

fitfox · 07/05/2008 19:12

Diva I think your keyboard and my keyboard were seperated a birth....

kittywise · 07/05/2008 19:15

Foxy, it went well thanks, we find out results in a couple of weeks

kayz, fingers crossed that all is ok. How any weeks are you?

Diva, I think you're very restrained!! I would be giving hefty wallops

kayzisexpecting · 07/05/2008 19:42

Fitfox, it could be yeah. Hopefully the scan will be able to tell us why it happened. It has stopped so fingers crossed its all good.

Kitty, I am 8 and a half weeks. So still really early.

I am feeling optimistic as the doctors really didn't seem to worried. DH is a bit scared though bless him.

Divastrop · 07/05/2008 20:25

kayz-hope the scan goes ok.i had bleeding/spotting from week 5-8 with Elsie.i was worried sick though, and dh was all cool and laid back about it.i had a scan at 7 weeks and saw the tiny heartbeat which made me feel loads better though.

kitty-i dont do smacking generally, and on the rare occasion ive threatened it with ds2 he's pulled his pants down and said 'go on then' and been really dissapointed when i didnt do it.he said it alot less today so i think the blatantly ignoring it is working.

foxy-that sounds like something my dd1 would have done at that age, burying a dead thing.

Callieco · 07/05/2008 20:31

Hello all, found you!

Welcome Kayz and Eggs.

Have had a lovely long weekend away with all the family as a present for my mum, who was 70 a week or so back. Felt so relaxed by the end of it.

If I hold DS under the arms, he will walk - or sometimes stagger! - all over the place. He now doesn't want to be carried anywhere, so instead of ruining my knees carrying him I'm now breaking my back bending over him all the time! He has discovered the joys of the park, and loves swinging - he cries when I take him off now. He babbles away all the time, I think he's going to be such a chatterbox. He's good at words like daddy, mama, nana (banana), doo-doo (for choo-choo), poo (! - sometimes). It's weird though because although he is quite good at "walking" while supported, he still can't keep himself upright in a sitting position for a long time, but he does roll around all over the place so I suppose that's development - only about six to eight months after all your lot did it! He will be 16 (14) months old tomorrow - where oh where is it going?

Evenhope, a while back you were asking about the pneumococcal vaccine - DS has had his, but I deferred the MMR for another day as I didn't want him having two injections on the same day (now that he's a bit more aware of what's going on!). What did you decide in the end? I was reading a story about a mum who lost her little girl to pneumococcal meningitis and it reminded me you had asked about it. Personally, meningitis is the one thing I have always really dreaded, as in a previous job I came across cases of it on a fairly frequent basis and it put the fear of god into me.

Rosylily · 08/05/2008 06:22

Gargh! I've been up since 4.30am (tired)

Callie that sounds like a lovely weekend. My mum is 70 this year too, in the summer, so we are planning a big celebration.

My sister reminds me every so often that ds1 was barely crawling at this stage. I know he was a bit late but I really don't remember!

I do remember that once he was walking and age about 3, he always looked as if he was about to fall off the pavement he was so higgledy piggledy. Anyway he is a 6 foot strapping 16 year old now and I have totally forgotten when he walked!

Kayz I have everything crossed for you, I know it is quite common to bleed and really hope all is well. It must be worrying and stressful though!

Kitty I hope the test results are good ones.

Piffle must look out for that hip organic milky stuff!

Diva you've got me onto green tea!

Foxy lol at the beetle funeral

Piffle · 08/05/2008 06:33

tis a sad indictment when in order to get an hour to yourself, you need to rise at ungodly o'clock to achieve this.
I never thought the height of calm would be typified by being able to make a school lunch unimpeded by children.
tragic, although on the upside, the cup of tea was hot. This too is rare!
kayz good luck for the scan, fingers crossed its ok for you. Very worrying.
well today will consist of washing and the chemdry man coming to assess kitchen floor for stripping.
aagh
nightmare

kayzisexpecting · 08/05/2008 12:39

Hello,
I've had my scan. Everything is fine. The baby has a heartbeat and is so tiny but perfect for my dates.

kiwibella · 08/05/2008 12:42

ugh, washing!! I am putting mine off by being here . I don't know where it all comes from although, when MissE is made to tidy her room, I suspect she is lazy and just puts everything in to the wash instead of putting it away. Just like her dad. Who doesn't have to tidy his room, incidentally!!

Kayz - hope things go well today with your scan.

Kitty - glad your lo was ok during her tests yesterday.

Is this really summer???? It is glorious here. Enjoy the sunshine.

kiwibella · 08/05/2008 12:42

yay, Kayz!!! Bless x x

bethoo · 08/05/2008 13:21

that is a relief Kay. you are 10 weeks behind me!

there is so much to catch up on!
hope you ladies are all ok.
Hayden can now say ''look'' as he points ateverything and tells me to look! so that is it as well as mama which he rarely says. he is typical bloke in that just grunts or growls when he wants something with his jaw jutting forward!!
he can stand, well balanced for quite a long time but just refuses to move his feet! yesterday is the first time i wished he could walk as was at my friends house whose ds is 3 days older and we were in the garden and i had to have him sat on my knee while two toddlers were playing in the grass!

Rosylily · 08/05/2008 14:57

Great news Kayz!

kittywise · 08/05/2008 15:40

Excellent news kayz

kayzisexpecting · 08/05/2008 15:44

Thanks

fitfox · 08/05/2008 17:01

Kayz - fantastic news. I bled through two PGcies and became a regular knicker checker. Love your description of the scan with tiny baby and heartbeat (awwww )

kayzisexpecting · 08/05/2008 17:58

I couldn't believe how small the baby is compared to at the 12 weeks scan.

evenhope · 08/05/2008 19:40

Congratulations kayz

Callie I rebooked the Hib and MenC for the end of this month. I had huge trouble with the receptionists so ended up bypassing them and having a word with the nurse. I know meningitis is bad but the dangerous strain is the one the jab doesn't protect against, so I didn't know whether it was worth it.

LOL at all the tantrumming babies. Mine screams when she can't have what she wants (the cards out of my purse, the telephone, someone else's food) and throws herself on the floor. We also get the impact from the concrete head
