March 2007: Babies no longer: the road to Toddlerdom

1000 replies

MrLSG · 01/05/2008 22:50

MrsLSG suggested it, so her it is...

I've observed that calling Toby a baby isn't really accurate anymore, he (as one of the younger March babies - actually being born in April) is now toddlering (or is that staggering?), hence the title of the thread.

Sorry if Dad's aren't allowed around here: But Toby just loved joining in garden football with his big brother and dad earlier tonight.

OP posts:

Divastrop · 05/05/2008 20:33

i think whatever gender god is,it is something that enjoys watching pain and suffereing, otherwise babies' teeth would all pop through painlessly in one go

fitfox · 05/05/2008 21:10

Deffo a mysongonist [sp] anyway!!

morocco · 05/05/2008 21:13

oooh so excited to find you all again
so nice to catch up on all the news

rosy, is it cpox? poor lambs

eids -same thing happened to ds1 when he was 18 months, was awful at the time but you can hardly see the scar now and gives him a good story for later on in life

emily is just about walking, she does a few steps then falls down cos she can't be bothered. she's good at going up stairs cos we haven't got a stairgate and is so sensible she hardly ever tries to go down them, but if she does, she turns round and goes backwards. such a sensible girl. so very very unlike her brothers. they were always falling off things at her age. and running round like giddy creatures, mind you they still do that!

welcome kayz and eggsonlegs

congrats jaysfinished!! bet you need a namechange again some time soon

noticed I have started writing dd1 on posts! broody??

fitfox · 05/05/2008 21:26

Hi Morocco [waves] Lovely to see you!!!! ..and hear about how "DD1" is doing

Rosylily · 06/05/2008 07:33

Hi Morocco! Great to get an update on Emily. She sounds sweet. Hasan is just starting to get the walking thing too, but he would much rather be carried around on my hip with my trucker arms!

Yep chicken pox central here and I am bored of it now! It totally ruined my day yesterday. It was the 'festival of fools' in Belfast and I love that...fantastic street acts, last year my face hurt from laughing by the end of the day.
Anyway of course I couldn't go and take the spotties

Ds1 was going with his mate and meeting my bil and the cousins, I gave him a tenner and told him to bring me back loads of chocolate and milk. Did he bring them? No! He spent a tenner on a cd of Inca spirit -music of the Native Indians......which is lovely but it's not chocolate! humph.

So today I desperately need to go out shopping, pay bills etc so I hope no one lynches me for taking the chicken pox out on the street. I think they may be past contagious now, not sure.

If there is a god its definately not a misogynist, sadistic man and anyone who worships that -I do not believe in it! (That seems to strike out most religions )

god is chocolate love (slurp)

TheBlonde · 06/05/2008 08:00

phew, I go away for the weekend and there is loads to catch up on

Eids - glad to hear finger is healing

Rosy - I though once the Cpox scabbed it wasn't contagious but not sure

welcome to kayzisexpecting and eggonlegs

Rosylily · 06/05/2008 08:09

Evenhope Hasan fell off the bed too the other day. It is awful when that happens isn't it.

Rosylily · 06/05/2008 09:11

Hi The Blonde, hope you had a fun weekend.
Yeah the spots are scabs now and appeared 6 days ago so they should be safe.
I think I'm just worrying about what people will think

bethoo · 06/05/2008 11:07

Rosy of coursei will be -demanding- asking to know that sex as too impatient to wait and if it is a girl i will need to stock up on girl stuff unless she can be dressed in Haydens previous attire?

i thought cpox was only contagious at the stage before they have actaully appeared and once they are on the skin it is ok? but better to be safe than sorry. in a way it is good at this age dont you agree? when thye are older they put up more of a fuss and pick leading to scabs and it is more dangerous to get as an adult. my mum and sister still have never had it!! >

Divastrop · 06/05/2008 11:36

rosy-they aren't contagious anymore once theyve scabbed over.i have seen loads of children with cpox out and about.i had to take ds2 out when he was still contagious as i was on my own and had no choice in the matter(i didnt fancy keeping the older 2 off school).

i saw my friends little baby this morning, she had him on sunday.very cute, but did not make me broody.they are cute and mini for all of about 5 minutes then suddenly they are climbing things and having hissy fits.and keeping you awake half the night cos they're teething or coughing.

Piffle · 06/05/2008 14:42

Broodiness
yes I am until I see my washing pile. and no that nothing in this world could convince me that I need to do more of it
Plus the SPd just finally recovering...

But yes all things being equal I'd never stop!

Finn has all his first molars now! And can handle a whole apple himself, we only found this out after he nabbed one out of the fridge and legged it refusing to let it go. Cue me following him around for 45 mins, lest he choke
He polished it off
Wondered how until I checked his mouth and saw all those new teeth!

Who is out in the sunshine todya?
Oh lovely
Finn is LOVING the water play table MUCHLY and the paddling pool. He also enjoys climbing in dd's dolls pram and getting dd to cart him round
He also obliges by pushing her round in the cosy coupe little tykes car
Ahhh siblings
dead cute when they get on!

spongecake · 06/05/2008 21:58

hope all the chicken pox gets better- all that lotion on the sheets, i remember it from wheni was little and had it.

my ds is coughing so badly- he is on antibiotocs and has swollen tonsils AGAIN. am trying not to bf but he can't eat. well, strawberries

such a nice day-hope you all enjoyed it

kittywise · 06/05/2008 22:40

Hello all
Well Ron has taken to pulling hair and biting. The only slight drawback (blessing) being that he has no teeth.
I am getting the message loud and clear that this child is trouble.
He has been before birth (regularly hiding from dopplers, even at term) and crying non stop.
He was given to me for a reason, I'm trying to work out why
He looks very cute when asleep.
It's now completely changed from protecting him incase dd3 gets a bit 'enthusiastic' with her play to protecting dd3 when Ron 'bites' her, pulls her hair and shuts her fingers in the dolls' house.
What sort of child have I got here fgs?????
His legs are so thin they look like they could snap.
He's just growing out of 9-12 month clothes. His height is fine but severe lack of girth means that anything larger just falls off

Right, shut up moaning Kitty.
Hope everyone's fine

Divastrop · 06/05/2008 22:45

kitty-maye he was given to you to put an end to your broodiness

i'm sure he will grow up to be an angel.when i think of what a lovely angelic liitle boy my ds2 was for the first 18 months, then i say 'goodnight' as i put him to bed and he replies 'goodnight fucker' i have to wonder what went wrong

kittywise · 06/05/2008 22:46

OMG Diva, he says that? what do you do?????

Divastrop · 06/05/2008 22:54

i just ignore him and walk out of the room.he thinks its funny and ive trid telling him not to etc but he just does it more so ive come to the conclusion that it may be better not to react atall.he never, ever listens to me,he will only do as dh tells him(well, sometimes).i mean,i do swear,so i feel bad telling him not too iyswim, but i dont do it all the time-the f word usually only comes out in exchanges between dd1 and i in the mornings.i say 'shit' more often but he never says that.

he didnt swear once when my mum was here, and i dont think he does it in school as im pretty sure his teacher would have told me as i ask her about his behaviour every afternoon.

i'm not starting a thread.i got hung, drawn, and quatered last time i did one about ds2's potty mouth

Rosylily · 07/05/2008 07:19

Kitty I think Ron is just trying to be as strong and powerfull as all his big brothers and sisters.
When ds2 was that age he was a really placid and gentle chap, I took him to Pakistan and everyone kept pulling his cheeks. They meant it in fun but then ds2 started scratching the cheeks of another baby the same age and everyone started thinking he was a rough boy and having to protect the other baby. I was raging and totally blamed my in laws for his difficult behaviour It certainly wasn't my little cherub's fault

Now I have the opposite problem, he could do with being a bit more rufty tufty for the big bad world out there!

Diva (I couldn't help laughing ) I think you are right to ignore, at least he knows not to say it in front of his teacher etc.

Sponge, Hasan has had chicken pox spots in his mouth and wasn't eating much either and so I never get the chance to cut down the breastfeeding. Think I'm making one gallon of milk!

kayzisexpecting · 07/05/2008 07:28

Hello,
We went to the park last night and Freddie loved going down the slide. He kept trying to crawl up it though. He was getting quite annoyed with himself when he slid back down. He also loved the swings.

Diva, I keep worrying that DS will pick up on 'naughty' words from us. Its so hard sometimes to not say the f word or similar. We are trying to not say them as much.

LunarSea · 07/05/2008 07:43

kitty, Toby's a bit like that - it's dungarees in 12-18, or trousers in 9-12 worn hipster style because the bigger ones demand belts or braces to keep them on him. 6-9 still fit him nicely around the waist! On the upside I'm getting plenty of free 12-18 clothes from a friend whose baby, the same age as Toby, is too big around the tummy to wear them.

spicemonster · 07/05/2008 08:03

Morning all

We are in strop city round here. Elliot has suddenly discovered the joy of tantrums and had about three between getting back from nursery at 5pm and going to bed at 6.45. It's normally a bit later than that but he was being so vile (kicking, screaming, pulling my hair/skin/clothes) that I put him down early. So far this morning he is sweetness and light so we will see how the rest of the day goes. This started on Sunday - before then, he'd cry but not go absolutely postal. So now I don't want to put him on his trike because he yells so much when I take him off it. He can only go backwards anyway! I put him outside too - there's only so much he can destroy out there but I do have to keep an eye on him eating all the plants. Over the weekend he ate: a fag butt, three stones, a slug, a piece of charcoal, seaweed and a piece of chalk. I managed to get all of them out except for the last three so we've had some exciting coloured poos!

Spent the day at a friend's on Monday and it was clear that the boys were much more of a handful than the girls. I wonder if someone would swap me for a nice biddable girl.

Rosy - sorry to hear about your pox but sounds like you're through the worst of it. Can you send me some please? I want Elliot to get it now because I suspect if he doesn't, he will catch it just as I start my new job.

We are thinking of moving out of London to the seaside. Or rather I am thinking of it. Elliot doesn't get much of a say in the matter

kittywise · 07/05/2008 10:04

Spice yes boys ARE more of a handful as young children, MUCH more energetic and highly wired, ants in pants. But girls come into their own as they get older.
Diva will tell you that!!!
My bigger boys are somehow less complicated and easier to manage than my girls!!!

kittywise · 07/05/2008 10:05

Also Ron has started tantrums and head butting the floor and walls when angry.

Rosy are Hassan's spots getting better. poor lamb!

kiwibella · 07/05/2008 10:12

Spice!!!

Haven't these kiddliwinks changed lately . Kate strops, I put her on the floor and leave her to it. You can have my girl for a day - you might be relieved to get your son back at the end of the day.

pmsl Diva.... your wee man definately KNOWS right from wrong and I think you are doing the best thing by ignoring him!!! It's not funny (to him) when he doesn't get a reaction.

Hi Kayz!!

We have also been exploring the local parks. They are dire really, but Kate seems to enjoy potting around. She freaks me out on the slide as she seems to have no fear. We need to learn turn-taking because as soon as she reaches the bottom she turns around and tries to climb back up. One day she will get bowled over.

I wanna move to the seaside too

kiwibella · 07/05/2008 10:13

kitty - isn't that headbutting manic???? Kate thrashes herself around and we have been thumped by her head a number of times.

Rosylily · 07/05/2008 10:33

Spice a good organic diet! Hasan has been eating soil in the garden, I think he thought it might be chocolate.
My girl is more fiesty and troublesome than my boys.
Would moving to the seaside mean travelling more to work?

Kayz my dad is called Fred and he is a super duper guy, so I love your ds's name!

Lunar/Kitty ds2 wears Hasans trousers as shorts

The children are recovering from the pox now and good riddance to that!

Kiwi I have noticed that Hasan is becoming more wilfull and bad tempered. I think it is because he can't talk yet so yowls until I work out by a process of elimination what's wrong...he howls when I close the dishwasher door because he likes to stand there playing with the dirty sharp knives
