Arbensmum, my mum has recently been diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosis too - she had a biopsy done a few months ago and it has been confirmed. Not sure what she does to control it but I know its very painful and irritating. She has told me to watch myself because apparently its hereditry (sp?) and my nan died from cancer of the vulva and apparently they are linked (she died 24 years ago so not likely at all these days before you get worried!). I had to comment as I've never heard of it before mum told me about it or since. Hope you find a way of coping with it and completely understand why you'd not want to kiss and cuddle etc. Big hugs to you!

Congratulations oliviaelanasmum!! I totally admire you! Also welcome back to the thread

Have fun at the soft play area Loopy!

Hope you manage to get a better night tonight Sophus, its always worth being firm with them in order to get some rest!

Love to everybody else!

PLP xxx

Chattyhan · 08/04/2008 20:28

Welcome back oliviaelanasmum and congrats - you're a braver woman than me!

Hopey - to answer your question it's the copper coil. As a teen i had loads of problems with hormones in contraceptives so had it fitted after ds1 and i don't remember having any problems. I remember having a bit of spotting in the week before my period was due but otherwise period as normal. The instructions say to expect heavy periods/spotting for first few months. I've had 1 week of spotting, 7 days of light loss and now 3 days of extremely heavy (change super plus tampon every 1-2 hrs) and no sign of stopping! I may be wrong but i think the mirena coil can decrease periods!

LisaLessLumpy · 08/04/2008 20:47

I have a mirena coil, this is my 4th period since having it fitted and there is no sign of it decreasing. I had very light periods on the pill, they would last 3 days max and I would never have to use more than a regular tampon. So far, these are lasting 5 days and are far heavier, I'm having to use supers Plus I don;t know when I am going to start which is annoying. This month has only been 3 weeks since the last one! Sorry if tmi

PurpleLostPrincess · 08/04/2008 21:37

Hmmm interesting... I'm considering the coil too as I've always had problems with the hormone levels in the pill, especially that they seem to make me have severe migraines. Thing is everybody is different and I'm worried I might react to it - my SIL had a coil fitted recently (not sure which one) and she has been absolutely fine on it. The nurse said she could pull it out if it ever caused problems which sounds handy! Chatty, hope it eases off for you, especially when you've not been feeling well on top of that! Hopefully see you soon xxx

sophus · 08/04/2008 21:46

hopey - thanks for asking - i'm doing well all things considered. I still cry every day and have done every day since mum died, but i think that's quite normal - and i guess i would like the opportunity to cry a bit more instead of the odd minute here or there. it's usually in the middle of the night or when i am feeding Linus - just tends to creep up on you. Or if Linus does anything particularly brilliant and i can't ring mum to tell her. I can honestly say i miss her with every ounce of my being, and it doesn't get easier, you just gradually get a bit more desensitised to the pain. We're going to loch ness as that is where mum's family are from and she was evacuated there during the war - all her family were truly bonkers (as was she). We're travelling up by train, 8 hours on a train with a 7 month old baby? But it was more doable than flying which i just couldn't handle (i seriously hate flying).

Anyway big news, we finally crawled forwards tonight - just a step and a half twice, but it was definitely a proper crawl.

just snatching a sec to post.

Sophus, you're amazing and have coped so well, what an emotional roller coaster you've been on. Do you ever dream about her? Not quite the same, but my Nan died when I was pregnant with DS2 (she was more of a Mum than Nan, I lived with her all my childhood - with Mum and Dad too!) and I was distraught, somehow eventually I would just know the sort of thing she'd say in a given situation- only the other day Niamh was really wriggling whilst I was trying to change her and I remembered how Nan would push her false teeth out when DS1 was wriggling, that used to have him tranfixed! I still think about her a lot now (9 yrs on), but the most comforting and amazing thing is when I occasionally dream about her, it's like I make a whole new memory of her, does that make any sense? Big BIG hugs - you amazing person. x PS congrats on the crawling Linus, clever boy.

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 08/04/2008 22:12

dal, yes am fully recovered now, phew - until the next PIL visit Thanks for asking x ps got your message on fb, sorry haven't had a chance to reply, kids off etc x x

Lollypopzmummy · 08/04/2008 23:00

Wow! Sophus Crawling, that seems totally incomprehensible for Lolly at the moment (I'm still seeing her as almost newborn even now, but that's more to do with her size lol)
I'm sorry I don't know what to say about your feeling upset, it's probably for the best but I'm sure it'll get easier (I've not lost a close relative but one of my closest friends lost her dad in November and she still crys every day).

Well, I'm going swimming again tomorrow but am taking Lolly this time (DD1 has been very badly behaved today despite loads of playing outside, took her to soft play and a trip to Tesco after dinner. . . we came home and just as I put Lolly down and went into the kitchen to heat up her bottle Lolly burst into a horrendous cry, DD1 came into the hall and told me she'd bitten Lolly!!! So she went straight off to bed with DH whilst I tried to calm Lolly Poor little thing, DD1 had left a horrible little dent in her finger as well, it looked really nasty but settled down after about 10 minutes. . . I out it down to her being tired, we got home at 9pm in the end. . . but still really p**ssed me off as she had been a little demon pretty much all day on and off and so we're not giving her anything unless she's utterly good all day tomorrow )

Lolly's tooth doesn't seem to be coming through any quicker but we've got the teething gel and teethers on stand by for her. I'm treasuring her gummy smile for the time being!

I'm hoping to catch up with you lot, re the weight loss, as DH has been offered a cross trainer on Freecycle so should be able to start losing a proper amount of weight (as opposed to a pound here and there )
My diet plan isn't going too badly, just need to sort out the best way of doing dinners (as DH doesn't like quinoa) and breakfasts . . . . . . I've got no idea what I want to eat when I get up and usually settle for whatever cereal is on the go (usually multi grain hoops or oat cereal when we've got it). . . We've got loads of fruit at the moment but I just can't stomach it first thing in the morning.

Righty, I'm off to catch up on FB,
Night all
xXx

dal21 · 09/04/2008 10:55

Sophus - to you. you have been so strong. I cannot begin to understand how it must feel.

And well done to your bub! Ryan is nowhere near crawling. Is bouncing when sat and leans quite far forward when sat but zero inclination to move off his bottom

Hopey - no worries, can imagine you are manic. Glad you are feeling much better though.

Lolly - poor bub!
Re. breakfast - a really good choice when trying to lose weight is porridge. Fills you up and really stops you from snacking.

Re everyone else and period pains. I havent had any sign of mine. I stopped bfeeding 7 weeks ago, so not too concerned yet - how long can it take for periods to return?

On the weightloss front - I had a good day yesterday. A friend who hasnt seen me for a few weeks said the running was paying off and I seemed much more toned, so even though the scales arent showing much of a loss - am sure the running is doing the job. Just what I needed to stay motivated.

Have good days all - am stuck indoors waiting for decorators to quote on some work we are having done. But it is lovely in London so may feed Ryan his lunch in the garden.

Meant to say - anyone up for another brent cross meet up? Amum - I know you are fairly local - so am up for meeting up over lunch/ coffee/ browse round the shops.

sophus · 09/04/2008 13:10

i will try and make it to next meet up, we're hopefully exchanging on mum's house today, and then once back from scotland life should settle down a bit, and is hould be able to get out and about a bit more.

had a friend aorund this morning with her 13 month old - Linus just looked aon with amazement as she destroyed the house and clambered everywhere - you could see him filing it all away for future endeavours.

off to my post-natal group get together this afternoon, we're going to do a photo session now that all the babies are over 6 months. we did one when they were all tiny, all 9 of them lined up on a sofa - it's really cute. Now we're just wondering how we get 9 of them to stay in the same place for long enough to take a picture.

thanks for kind words - roller coaster is the right word. i think one of the things which puts me off havign another baby is thinking how stressful these past 6 months have been, but then i have to remind myself that it has been an exceptional experience, and that hopefully having a baby without losing a nearest and dearest will be a walk in the park......

Hi all,

Sophus, so sorry to hear how you're feeling. My mum drives me round the bend sometimes, but I know if I lost her I'd miss her like crazy, especially now I'm a mum as well. Sounds like you've got lots of wonderful memories of your mum, though. I hope the trip to Scotland isn't too hard to cope with, and turns out to be how you want it to be.

I've just got back from a weekend with my parents. I went there to have a hand with Paul while DH was on a school trip, but as soon as I arrived my parents had to rush off to babysit my niece while my sister had her baby, so in the end I had three days on my own with Paul in a strange(ish) house, which was much more tiring than being at home!! Still, at least I quite enjoyed all the free food and Sky TV (we only have four channels at home) .

Hopey, thanks for asking about my sister. She had the baby (Will, 7 pounds 15) on Sunday afternoon. On the good side, her labour only lasted 3 hours. On the downside, the baby was in distress (cord around neck) so they had to use forceps. Also, she had pre-eclampsia and her BP went through the roof, so they're keeping her in for 5 days - she tried to go home, but they said no, apparently she could keel over with a stroke and die. Reassuring .

The baby's very cute, and I cannot believe how small he looks!! If I hadn't known better, I'd have sworn he was much smaller than Paul was, when actually he's half a pound bigger!! Visiting them in hospital really brought the whole newborn thing back with a vengeance. I really want another LO at some point, but I'm not looking forward to doing those early days again... Also, my sister's having trouble with the feeding - little Will just totally refuses to suckle at the breast. Did any of you have experience of this? She thinks it might be because he's got a lot of mucous?? She bf'ed her first with no problems.

Anyway, I'm off to take Paul for a walk in the sunshine. It feels like he's had a real growing up spurt in the last few days - he's nearly standing, nearly crawling, much more able to see things (e.g. watches birds out of the window) and suddenly thinks everything's very funny. DH is back from his trip now, thank god - I have so much respect for anyone who looks after a baby on their own!!

Lollypopzmummy · 09/04/2008 20:40

We had a brilliant day today, Lolly absolutely loved swimming and obviously just wanted to go all by herself the way she's was kicking around! We then had a lovely afternoon spent with my friend and bimbled back home (I then proceeded to get a headache, put it down to being a bit de-hydrated so drank some water and took a tablet and am fine now, but made me wonder if it was having to come home at all that made it come on lol)
It's my birthday tomorrow (an enviable 26 ladies! ) and, as expected, none of my friends have anything planned and I practically had to put the wheels in motion, but have now said that it's down to someone else and just to let me know when they've figured it out!

Dal : Don't forget that, with running, you might be building up muscle in your legs again so it wouldn't show up on the scales but would definitely mean you'd be more toned (if that makes any sense), muscle is heavier than fat so take that into account.

Sophus: Hope for your sake Linus forgets today's example!! If not you're in trouble!!
Lucky you, I didn't have a ante-natal group this time round (no ante-natal group set up at all, despite it being the same hospital etc, just had a quick run around the hospital to get our bearings and then nothing which means I've know absolutely no-one with a baby Lolly's age and am a bit about it all cos it means that she's not even seen another baby at all!!

MrsBB Lolly's the same, I just had her in a total giggle fit just cos I was sat looking away then looked sharpish at her and said "hey!", it's just so cute to see her laughing properly, whereas before she was just sort of doing a funny little giggle for no apparent reason, still cute but she's got a proper little sense of humour now!

Probably not going to be able to make it to a meet up (it'd cost me stupid amounts of money just to get to London on the train and then I've got to figure out where I'm going, blah blah blah! If only there were a majickal transportation device where you could control exactly where you were going and just get there. . . oh that's right, there is I just don't have a licence for it :-P )

I'm in an FB mood (when am I not?!!) so I'm off again, see you all again later, take care!
xXx

oliviaelanasmum · 09/04/2008 21:01

Happy Birthday for tommorow Lollypopzmummy im 26 too, although i feel about 56 today!
Today i picked up a lovely tandem pushchair from a lady on freecycle as dd2 has a horrible chest infection and isn't at all well
Oh and Maisy-Rae had her 1st ever accident today she was sitting on the rug in the front room with hundreds of cushions behind but she over balanced and as i caught her, her dummy grazed her lip and bled for ages
She is a bit wobbly and ends up bent double after a while but she is getting there.

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 10/04/2008 09:31

Lollypop twas me, cackle cackle!

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 10/04/2008 09:37

Aw big hugs oliviaelanasmum, you must have been SO upset, I know I would have been, poor little bub. ((hugs))

dal, I'm off to London today to visit Dad and Step Mum, we're going to pop into Brent Cross at some point but don't know when. Need to get one of those back pack baby carriers for Sunday's marathon. If it looks like we're making good time, I'll text you to see if you're around, but knowing me I'll be running late and rushing, so don't be offended if I don't!

Would love to organize another meetup, will need to sort a day that DH can work from home again so that he can sort the boys in the afternoon.

PLP and sophus and Chatty you guys MUST come too!

I'm going to post on the main board to see if I can get any recommendations for a back pack baby carrier, the bush baby one looks quite good.

Arbensmum · 10/04/2008 10:01

Sorry LLL I get so mixed up with who's on FB (what with real names and all that) I don't know who I talking to!!

Arbensmum Thanks goodness for that, get out!! Will catch up with you on FB hun xXx

Aw thanks Oliviaelanasmum. . . your lucky, Lolly can't even sit in the freaking bumbo properly!! She ends up all scrunched up on one side, playing with her foot, very cute but looks mightily uncomfortable!
As for the little booboo, poor little mite, but it's better than having her older sister bite her, am still in at that one, going to be hard to forget it for a while. . . watching her like a hawk now!!

Am now off to stalk Arbensmum and find out the gossip, (although pretty sure it's probably nothing and she's just got to cut a few bits out of her busy mummy schedule. . . tbh been thinking about cutting down on the computer lately but wouldn't be disappearing totally from here )

xXx

Happy Birthday Lolly! Hope you have a fab one!

Hello to everyone else!

oliviaelanasmum · 10/04/2008 20:20

Happy Birthday LOLLY!
Evening all, i have just had to cut one of my satin nighties up for Maisy-Rae to sleep with, she wont drift off with anything else! I took her and dd2 to mums and toddlers today and Maisy-Rae astounded me by sitting for ages and even eating a biscuit without overbalancing! I think she may have her two bottom teeth coming through, i can just about see the shape of them under the gum!
All the kids are in bed asleep and i have had a lovely bath and put my pj's on, dp is driving me mad making me watch star trek so i came on here instead!
Hope everyone is ok!

amyclaramum · 10/04/2008 20:53

Happy Birthday Lolly's Mum - you are sooooo young ! (I will be reaching a milestone birthday in June and am dreading it!) Hope you had a fab day ?!

Hi to Oliviaelenasmm and Lausy too !

Hope everyone is having a good week ?

We went to babyswimming class today for the first time - Eloise loved it !! The 2 older DD's had to come too as its the holidays but it was great having 2 helpers in the changing room - pity I'll be on my own next time !

Hi to Sophus - sorry you are feeling low - it must be so hard to reach each of Linus's milestones and not be able to talk to your Mum about it - I can't imagine how hard it is for you. My Dad died when I was 18 so he never saw me graduate, get married , have children - and that makes me sad sometimes.

Kinki - thinking of you this week and hope its going ok with your DH ? Hope you have a good time with your friends ?

Plp , Chatty, Dal,Hammer, Hopey - Hi there hope all ok with you ?
Good luck to your DH Hopey !! Is it too late to sponsor him ? Can't remember the website - anyone know ?

Arbensmum - goodbye love - why are you leaving us ? Hope you are ok ?
