Hi all,
Sophus, so sorry to hear how you're feeling. My mum drives me round the bend sometimes, but I know if I lost her I'd miss her like crazy, especially now I'm a mum as well. Sounds like you've got lots of wonderful memories of your mum, though. I hope the trip to Scotland isn't too hard to cope with, and turns out to be how you want it to be.
I've just got back from a weekend with my parents. I went there to have a hand with Paul while DH was on a school trip, but as soon as I arrived my parents had to rush off to babysit my niece while my sister had her baby, so in the end I had three days on my own with Paul in a strange(ish) house, which was much more tiring than being at home!! Still, at least I quite enjoyed all the free food and Sky TV (we only have four channels at home) .
Hopey, thanks for asking about my sister. She had the baby (Will, 7 pounds 15) on Sunday afternoon. On the good side, her labour only lasted 3 hours. On the downside, the baby was in distress (cord around neck) so they had to use forceps. Also, she had pre-eclampsia and her BP went through the roof, so they're keeping her in for 5 days - she tried to go home, but they said no, apparently she could keel over with a stroke and die. Reassuring .
The baby's very cute, and I cannot believe how small he looks!! If I hadn't known better, I'd have sworn he was much smaller than Paul was, when actually he's half a pound bigger!! Visiting them in hospital really brought the whole newborn thing back with a vengeance. I really want another LO at some point, but I'm not looking forward to doing those early days again... Also, my sister's having trouble with the feeding - little Will just totally refuses to suckle at the breast. Did any of you have experience of this? She thinks it might be because he's got a lot of mucous?? She bf'ed her first with no problems.
Anyway, I'm off to take Paul for a walk in the sunshine. It feels like he's had a real growing up spurt in the last few days - he's nearly standing, nearly crawling, much more able to see things (e.g. watches birds out of the window) and suddenly thinks everything's very funny. DH is back from his trip now, thank god - I have so much respect for anyone who looks after a baby on their own!!
