tyaca · 10/04/2008 11:37

hello - i'm here, nothing to worry about just a bit of offline time. hope all you ok, been reading sporadically last week or so and am v jealous that you all seem so slim

CountTo10 · 10/04/2008 11:51

Sorry Tyaca - hope you didn't think I was stalking but just worried that you were a bit stressed out in one of your last posts then we all came steaming in about you being down and did you need some help etc blah blah and thought you might have been a bit put out!! Phew!! Glad your ok x

lljkk · 10/04/2008 12:10

Hi lassies --
I only have time to skim thread, hope every1 is bearing up ok. I think I'm actually gaining weight lately...

My last 36 hrs have been completely sh!te.
Insomnia, 4 hrs sleep, kind friends who I never see drove an hour 2 c me, but I really would have preferd a nap instead! Mad driving around for an hour+ bcuz ds1's school shoes r suddenly 2 tight -- ended up buying him a plastic pair 4 a fiver, hope they work out. DS3 screaming at others over the types of things 3yos tend to scream bout (me being horrid to him in return at one point).

Left ds3;s scooter in shop carpark (gone this morning), baby crying thru-out most of these adventures....

Oh. & yesterday tea time pet hamster found hemoraging to death (did she fall from somewhere?). She died in my hands -- so weird to just feel her heartbeat slowing to a stop, Kids devastated & in tears for hours, I had nightmares mixing up bleeding pet with baby ds, so little sleep last night again....

Today nothing has gone very wrong... er, yet!

And there I was congratulating myself lately on how well I'm coping.

Phew... hope I can be forgiven the vent. Everyone gets the occasional BAD day, right? ttfn.

Egg · 10/04/2008 12:12

Don't worry Tyaca I am steadily gaining! Good to see you back, glad all is ok .

Weather is turning crap now. No matter as was not planning on going anywhere, just as long as it is ok by 4:30 when we go to get DS1.

Paté is prob not best for weight loss either is it. It being about 80% fat or something . Ah well, it's v tasty.

Bathed babies together for first time today (never managed it before, despite various times of planning to, I always bottled out). It was fine, and so much quicker. Think I will start trying to bath DS1 and babies on alternate nights as have had enough of bathing DS1 every night and him saying "no no" when I say it's bathtime (and then crying on Tuesday when I said "ok no bath tonight"). Grr.

Egg · 10/04/2008 12:15

Bloody hell lljkk! That really is a crap day . Poor hamster . Poor you. Just a bit of that is bad enough but everything together must have been hell. Glad today is a bit better.

mutha2beagain · 10/04/2008 12:20

Hi Tyaca, glad you are OK and good to hear from you.

Egg, I have massive battles with my DS1 about bathtimes, endless negotiations, does it really have to be that hard? Then he makes a big fuss about wanting to use deodorant and talc - he's only 7 for chrissakes. How contrary.

Lljkk - your day yesterday sounds pretty stressful - Does that mean you will have to hold a hamster funeral for the kids' benefit? Hope today is better.

Just bathed and massaged LO - so much easier to do it without other interruptions - he loves it.

Think I might venture up to supermarket for a bit of food - bugger all in the house!

CountTo10 · 10/04/2008 12:30

We stopped bathing ds1 every day once we got into winter so only bathed every other day unless he'd got filthy and then we wash his hair once a week unless needed before as he absolutely hates it and screams the place down when we do it. What we are going to start doing is put both ds's in the same bath then once ds2 is done, take him out and top bath up for ds1 and leave him in there a bit longer. Also having to put ds1 to bed later as he has become such a nightmare to put to bed now the clocks have gone back. We have blackout curtains but it's not doing anything. We;ve found him hidden in our bed asleep and in the toilet. Most nights he's not alseep till 8.30-9 which is a nightmare as he's still up at the same time in the morning!! He keeps saying that sleep is boring or that he's too scared to sleep and we've tried allsorts so will have to see if this works!!

Egg · 10/04/2008 12:37

DS1 loves the bath once he is in, just always a battle to get him up there (well about 80% of the time). He is good once in there and is ok having his hair washed. He is younger tho...

Wish I could bath mine together . They wont all fit in the bath...

CountTo10 · 10/04/2008 12:38

llijk - sorry to hear you had such a rough day and poor hamster! Maybe a small burial with a plant? Sunshine quickly disappearing here too!! Was going to walk to pick ds1 up from nusery and now it looks like its going to rain - typical!!

leesmum · 10/04/2008 12:55

OOh you lot are making me hungry, i can't believe how good i've been, i'm sure it won't last! i think the prospect of Dp letting me have some money to go and buy loads of new clothes is spurring me on.

Tyaca great to hear from you how is Esther?

Count, Ds1 had his pre-school boosters yesterday, he is the same age as yours, he had the MMR in one arm and the the booster in the other! the nurses were great, they counted to 3 then did it at the same time, he didn't cry because they gave him some stickers straight away, he was a bit cranky last night but nothing that calpol didn't sort out

rozzyraspberry · 10/04/2008 13:56

Hi all.

DS1 had his pre-school boosters when he was 4 1/2 and I'm assuming DS2 will be the same as I haven't heard otherwise.

DS3 had his first set of immunisations this morning. He's slept since which is a looong daytime sleep for him. He's put on 1 1/2lb in the last week. Reassuring as he's been feeding so frequently that I thought I maybe didn't have enough milk. Obviously just having a growth spurt though.

Egg when DS2 was still getting up in the night then not eating morning feed I started giving him a bottle of water in the night. Probably very cruel but within 2 days he was sleeping through.

I've been very good too Leesmum - I haven't had any rubbish this week at all. My treadmill arrived on Tuesday so did 3 miles on Tuesday night and will go on again tonight.

DS1 was puking up this morning but has made a miraculous recovery and is playing on his bike outside with his dad at the moment.

Glad you're ok Tyaca.

Better go as I'm expecting MIL at 2. She took voluntary redundancy and retired on Tuesday so has more time on her hands now so hopefully the boys will see more of her.

Take care all.

beansprout · 10/04/2008 15:06

Wey-hey!! Everyone's back!!
Tyaca - good to hear from you!

Am glad to hear that every day bathing is not compulsory as ds1 is increasingly resistant to something he used to love and it's such a faff some nights, especially when dh is still at work and I am trying to manage them both. I think I will go down the route of dunking ds2 in there first, but atm he is only bathed on a needs-must basis and am not in a hurry to increase that.

Is anyone else still on cotton wool and water on the bum front or are you on wipes yet? If so, does anyone know of any eco/green sort of options?

Egg · 10/04/2008 15:31

Oh dear have just discovered a whole Soreen Malt Loaf that is best before TODAY. Am working my way through it. Already ate a Galaxy Ripple after my pate on toast .

Been having some bonding time with DTs. They both slept solid for over three hours at lunch (started nap at 11am...) so are all happy and awake now and keep smiling at me. Have just left them playing under the arch together, but they keep hitting each other.

They are three months old TODAY! I remember DS1 discovered his hand on his three month bday. He couldn't stop looking at it and moving it in front of his face. These two are still just eating their hands. Oh, anyone else's baby's get neckcheese between their fingers?

Egg · 10/04/2008 15:35

Oh and we moved to wipes completely about 4 weeks ago. Just use cotton wool for cleaning eyes etc now.

DS2 is in the process of having his bi-daily poo (every other day, is that bi-daily, or would bi-daily mean twice daily?). Might explain why he only had 90ml at last feed, needs to make some room.

Rozzy I was watering down the night feeds, using less scoops to water, but it made no difference and they still weren't interested in morning feed. Might try just water and see what happens. Might wait til the weekend tho!!! I don't want to force them to drop a feed as they are still only little, esp DD, but if they are going to drop one anyway it might as well be the right one...

Egg · 10/04/2008 15:56

Oh darn it, it seems there are two malt loaves that need eating by today . Ah well, better keep going.

mutha2beagain · 10/04/2008 16:33

Definitely wipes now, and the change couldn't come too soon!

On the subject of nether regions, what are people using for nappy cream? DS2's creases are starting to glow red a bit. Have got Bepanthen ... is it the best?

Egg · 10/04/2008 17:20

I only use a bit of sudocrem, and that's only after a bath, which is only 2 or 3 times a week . They seem ok tho.

rozzyraspberry · 10/04/2008 17:40

Egg I can understand you being reluctant to give water to your DTs. DS2 was over 5 months when I did this - was due back to work so wanted to stop bf but too lazy to do bottles during the night.

Gill79 · 10/04/2008 18:42

can someone explain about cotton wool v wipes? I had the idea wipes were bad but wasn't sure why so use cotton wool whe feeling calm and virtuous.

Bean - I am using earth friendly baby wipes and I get them from Born on Stoke Newington Church St. Could get you some before the meet-up if you like although you can probably get naturecare baby or whatever they're called in the supermarket.

hi Tyaca!

BTW meant to say thanks for the supportive posts over the tummy issue. Feeling a bit better about it now.

princessllama · 10/04/2008 20:38

apparently baby wipes can be too strong for newborns skin. we're back on cotton wool after lo got sore bottom-sigh-so much more of a pain, hopefully not for long. if you're being really enviromentally friendly bean you can get reusable wipes.
well now the mastitis is under control we're both on medicine for thrush. burning nipples-the joy of motherhood. am hoping it doesnt go on and on like with poblet. have to say am struggling to enjoy the joys of a newborn right now. we're watching endless balamory while i feed and try to fend off the blows from dd who wants to sit on my lap now that she can't.

CountTo10 · 10/04/2008 20:48

Oh pl can't believe you've got thrush as well as mastitis - poor you, no wonder you're not enjoying it - Balamory on repeat is enough to fray anyones nerves!!! Hope you start recovering soon. Who knew so many things could go wrong with nipples!!

We;ve been using wipes for a while now. If ds2 starts looking a little pink I make sure he gets lots of air (just put towels around for accidents) and pop some sudocrem on and he's fine. We only use cotton wool to clean eyes which is all the time with one at the moment as he's got a bit of sticky eye!! Everyone keeps saying to me 'oh bless he's crying' and I keep saying no no it's just eye gunk!!!

On the subject of finger cheese - ds2 gets that but also in the palm of his hand where he sucks his hands a lot at the mo and keeps them tightly shut, I have to prise them open to clean them!!!

Well, by some miracle, managed to get ds1 in bed and stay there and drift of to sleep by 7.35pm tonight a record for the past month so the letting him stay up a little later obviously worked, can't wait to tell him how good he is in the morning and give him a sticker!!! Just hope its not a one off!!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 11/04/2008 09:45

Morning ladies-

Hope all well-

Princess sorry to hear you have thrush as well as mastitis, i hope you start to heal really soon.

DD had her jabs yesterday morning- all went well- she only cried a little bit!!!

Sorry not been on much i have been busy sorting out the details for Rosie's christening- its a week on sunday and i left it all till now!!!!

Anway all sorted now cannot wait!!!!

OHH a freind of mine had a baby girl on wednesday, she is called Harriet and weighed in at 10lb2oz!!!!! ouch xxxx Apparently they have an infection so will be in hospital till weekendxx (cannot belive she is only 1lb less than rosie is now at 9 weeks)

Not much else to add really but wanted to check in and see how you all are-

oh and i have not yet got to mothercare about replacement clips for cot!!!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 11/04/2008 09:47

oh also am using wipes- only ever used cotton wool for dd for about a week!!!! I got fed up with DS trying to help and knocking the water over the changing unit and DD

I just use sensitive skin ones and we have had no probs as yet-

on the bath front- my get bathed together almost everyday- its the routine i got into with ds and it never changed- i find it also helps with the bedtime routine!!! but its personal choice i guess xxx

Egg · 11/04/2008 09:56

I really would love to bath all mine together... My bath is just not big enough .

Also use Pampers Sensitive. No probs with bottoms yet.

Had hellish night all in all, and babies doing my head in this morning. DS1 has a cough and cold and keeps drawing on my darn BANANAS.

Slacker · 11/04/2008 11:30

wipes - I use either fleece/terry wipes (have some left over from last baby, like these, or those cheap Ikea flannels, with plain water. Don't need to start making up a wipe solution till they stop being fully breastfed, IME (and then it's just water + baby bath stuff + maybe a bit of oil and/or lavender oil. Or camomile tea works well). Wash them in with the nappies, or I guess on their own if you don't use cloth nappies (if you don't, I recommend Fuzzibunz, barely any more effort than disposables and a lot cuter!). Disposable wipes are a rip off, and they stink.

F will be 9 weeks tomorrow and is as adorable as ever, he's enjoyed having his brothers/sister around over the holidays and beams at them, he laughs too, it's fabulous. Am very he's not newborn any more though, will just have to have another one!

MIL phoned today but I missed the call; maybe she's thinking of seeing the children at some point. If I had a new grandchild only 2 hours away wild horses wouldn't keep me from seeing them, but each to their own

Am I the only one here who doesn't do baby jabs? I think the health visitor finally got the message, although she's still going to contact me in a few months apparently - how about just leaving me the hell alone??? Grrrr.

Hope all well and the mastitis/thrush ladies get better really soon.

xx
