Well thought I should start a new thread in time to link it on the old one!!!

cup!!! Easy ladies.. i've only just started to manage a regular solid feed once a day let along trying to introduce a cup!!

What age/month are you supposed to get them to do that????
My ds is almost 6 months, drinks water from his bottle.

(fear of backward child emoticon!)

Congrats Muppet on first tooth... has H suffered much to date?
Les - sorry to hear about DS1. I just can't believe how cruel some kids can be. I would be livid if anyone tried anything like that on my ickle boy, so i can imagine just how angry you must be about the situation. Hope the school has been supportive.

muppetgirl · 29/03/2008 20:34

Hi mine, not really suffered at all. A bit dribbly last week and a little crying but not really what I would call 'teething' as such.

alicet · 29/03/2008 21:37

Muppet don't mind you asking at all! I would expect that the pelvic floor excercises will be broadly speaking the same as the ones you were advised about when you were discharged. Certainly doing them would only benefit you so I would keep on with them. There may be other stuff too - not sure to be honest but I would go to the appointment and see...

Incontinence is not being able to hold onto your urine / bowel movements (depending on where the problem is - can be both) and has varying degrees. For example with bowels you can be incontinent of flatus (air - farting ), liquid or solid motions. So on the other side continence is the ability to control when you choose to pass urine / open your bowels. Just the opposite to incontinence really.

More than happy to try and answer any of your questions either on here or by email if you prefer - not strictly speaking my area but worked with a colorectal surgeon who specialised in continence just before I had Adam so know a bit from there plus know people I can ask on your behalf if I don't know myself.

Mine don't worry about lack of cup - Sam was at least 9 months and poss older before he drank water from anything other than a bottle. Think its worth trying them with beakers now (free flowing ones are better for their teeth and also teaching them to sip and therefore the skills they need to drink from a cup) but don't sweat it if it's not happening!

Off to bed now! Had a lovely evening of good food and wine with dh, now off to chill in bed. Not sure anything more exciting on the menu - not like going to bed early in the 'old days' !!!

Where is everyone today?
I odn't know whether i've mentioned this but for a while i've been thinking my name is a bit boring and was thinking about changing it... LisaLessLumpy has inspired me so I think i'm gonna do it. However, I haven't got any good ideas so... All suggestions welcome

alicet · 30/03/2008 13:26

I'm here!

My name isn't exactly very inspired but can't be arsed to change it I don't think... If I thought of something great then maybe...

OP posts:
Dalrymps · 30/03/2008 13:29

He he, yours is as inventive as mine I have to agree

alicet · 30/03/2008 13:37

You having a good day?

OP posts:
TheLadyEvenstar · 30/03/2008 13:46

lol i love my name

Dalrymps · 30/03/2008 13:50

Yeah Ds slept 9 hrs last night, off to morrisons soon to see if they do organic veg, went to 2 farm shops yesterday but neither had veg?!
les - your name is a lot more exciting than ours!

Dalrymps · 30/03/2008 13:53

Oh I forgot to type, how are you today Alice?
Dh has just told me to get off the computer as we have to go now and I have an addiction. Guess i'll speak soon then

alicet · 30/03/2008 14:12

Ha ha Dal! My day is fine although Adam is sleep resisting at the mo.... Have fun

OP posts:
ChocolateHobnob · 30/03/2008 14:29

Hi everyone!

Dal, Alicet, yes you are dull!!! My name is a bit silly - I gave myself it because I kept eating chocolate Hobnobs, the baby ones in packets for kids to take to school, for lunch when pregnant, but then I went off them and haven't had them since! I ought to come up with another one but I'm as boring as you...! Lisa - your new name is great, and well done on the weight loss.

Dal - which monitor did you get in the end?

Polar, fab to hear from you again.

Am enjoying all the weaning stories. Can't even decide which highchair to get - caught between wanting a Tripp Trapp one (mainly cos like idea of DD sitting at table) and wanting one with a tray (on grounds that tbh I usually eat my lunch off the low table in the living room, and won't be eating dinner with her for some time...). Anyway good to hear about all these sleeping food-guzzling babes!

Rebecca slept better Friday night, only woke up around 4 times between 9 and 3 (after 3 wasnt great) but then barely slept last night, nightmare. Have had inlaws here for 3 days - gone now - went okay. Oh but exciting news - we have accepted an offer on our house, from someone not in a chain, and have had an offer accepted for a house to move to, which also isn't in a chain. How cool is that?!

I've also bought a Jumperoo today - it's very cool too. Although Rebecca is admittedly still a bit little for it, and now our house really does look like Mothercare, it's all fun. Alice - you will be welcome to bring Adam to play in it as he will definitely be tall enough to have a ball!

OK time for Tesco shop. Take care all!

TheLadyEvenstar · 30/03/2008 15:10

my highchair is the fisher price one

www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3755651/Trail/searchtext%3EHIGH+CHAIRS.htm

someone threw it out so i brought it in lol

Mine · 30/03/2008 16:26

hi everyone
it has been a bit quiet on here recently.... where is everybody?!!
I've had a busy day trying to manically tidy up and try not to make the house look too chaotic. Had a friend come over for a long lunch. It was lovely to catch up, but am pooped.
Ds now down for a nap.. no doubt for 30mins... better than nothing i guess.

Would anyone be able to suggest what kind of 'cup' i can use to start ds on???
I've seen loads in the shops, but i thought they were for toddlers.. they all have hard mouth bits.

muppetgirl · 30/03/2008 19:32

Hi all

Well, I have joined Facebook so if anyone is also on it let me know!

Alice -that piccie of you and Adam (I think) is lovely x

My name comes from an old boyfriend (policeman, slightly mad but that's another story ) who used to call me Muppet. I then got drunk one night and scratched Muppet accross my old astra I had at the time but I spelt it worng making me definately, a muppet! I have thought about changing it but not really sure what else I like. Narrowboatgirl? Usedtobeacellist? IcandoalthoughIteach?

Had one of those days as we turned up at the gym at 8am to find it was in fact 9am and dh had missed his tennis lesson.

Henry did well in his cot but now looks small again! Oliver built a ramp out of 2 planks of wood and his duplo container balanced on his chair that we took out of Henry's room and put in his. That boys is a danger to himself...

LisaLessLumpy · 30/03/2008 20:13

Evening everyone

Well I feel like crap, had a great night out last night at a Ball, only managed to have 2 hours sleep though. Got in at 2am but clocks going forward meant it was 3am, the boys woke up at 6am and in between I felt like I was mostly awake due to the room spinning and feeling like I was going to throw up. Managed to get rid of the hangover by about 11am for it to be replaced by yet another cold, caught off dh. My 4th cold since Christmas Will be going to bed shortly I think.

Looking forward to seeing the dermatologist tomorrow, I so hope he can sort Ben out. He also has both of his eyes gunked up aswell, poor thing looks proper poorly I've added some more new photos to my profile, Ben looking better than he does at the moment

nellieloula · 30/03/2008 20:28

oh LLL, feeling for you. Although, I dream of being out until 2! Breastfeeding a nearly 6 month old who thinks she is a six week old and allowed to wake every 3 hours fo food puts a stop to most social things! Glad the ball was fun though. not so great about the cold.

hope everyone else is ok. CHoc, I'm sure R will settle down a little now that the in laws have gone. hope so anyway. Have a look at argos for high chairs too - we got a 'fake' trip trap there for £49 - DS is 3 next week (where the hell did those years go??) and is still happily in it at the table. And it will easily do Madeleine as well.

Well, it's M's tonge tie op tomorrow and I have to say I have got into a right tizz about it. I am usually so pragmatic and calm about these things but the thought of a general anaesthetic has just sent me slightly off the worrying scale. I am sitting having a beer and trying to relax and be rational but have had so many horrible thoughts today - this, I know, is because when we saw the staff nurse the other week for her pre-op assessment I asked what the risks of a general in someone so tiny were (cause she is still very small really; just 14lbs) And this wonderful woman relied 'well the worst case scenario is that some babies just don't wake up again' When I demanded more information, she got flustered and said to wait and speak to the anaesthetist (sp?) if I have concerns.

So I know the panic is in relation to that - and I know that the stats are really low but I am pretty scared now. The other major concern is that I can't feed her after 4.30am and M always cluster feeds on and off from 3-6 in the morning. She can have water from a bottle but she isn't the greatest fan of bottles...... so very worried about that. The idea of having to deny her food and comfort is pretty crap. And then of course with all this going on I wonder whether we should do it at all........aaaaaggggghhhhh.

sorry for ranting there - just good to get it off my chest. DH is as frantic as I am, so don't want to burden him - so thank you for reading that if you stuck with it

anyway - I'd better go and get ready for the night ahead - hope you all have good ones.

Mine · 30/03/2008 20:59

good luck for tomorrow Nellie, i really hope it goes well. Am sure it will as the stats are in your side.
Just give lo lots of cuddles, i'm sure you won;t be able to put her down, but it will be fine.
big huggs.

alicet · 30/03/2008 21:29

Nellie massive hugs honey. I think for me the worst thing would be as you say not being able to feed her and not being able to explain why. But it will pass... Try not to worry about the GA. There are risks but they are miniscule - the nurse who said that to you should be sacked for such a blatantly panic mongering comment. Disgraceful on your behalf. Sure she will be fine - you probably will struggle more than her!

Lisa hope Ben's appt tomorrow goes well...

Choc great news on the house!!! Thought you wouldn't struggle to sell yours as it's lovely. Adam says he's looking forward to playing in the jumperoo!!

Muppet I succombed (that so looks like it's spelt wrong but I can't be bothered to care ) to Facebook this weekend as you will know! I have been adamantly avoiding it as I spend enough time online as it is but the pressure got to me!!!! Yes the pic is me and Adam.... Your pics are fab too. Esp the one of Ollie in his yellow wellies!

Well dh has a migraine so I've been on boy duty tonight. They were fine though. Sam has been in bed since 7.30 but only just gone quiet (bless him don't think he realises clocks have gone forward!) and Adam settled great. Bad news from here is our car goes in to the garage tomorrow for about £1.5K worth of work. We went looking to see what else we could get today but don't have much spare cash at the mo with the extension looming so reluctantly we will fix it and cross our fingers that that is it for the mo....

Dalrymps · 30/03/2008 22:21

Hey everyone,
choc - I got the Tomy walkabout classic advance monitors, 2nd hand off ebay, they we're just under £20 inlc postage, would cost £39.99 new . We've got the Chicco happy snack highchair, quite good cause you can remove the tray and have them at the table if you like, it has a plastic bit for between their legs to stop them sliding off and of course a 5 point harness.
Muppet - I'm on facebook under my other email, search for Amy Dalrymple
LLL - sorry you've got a cold hope it clears up quickly.
Nellie - (((big hugs))) for tomorrow, sure it'll be fine, as Alice says, worse for you than lo i'm sure, let us know how it went when it's all over
Right, I managed to get some veg, some organic some not , gonna go make a few purees whilst Dylan is in bed.
Hi to everyone I haven't mentioned...
Catch ya all soon

Mine · 30/03/2008 22:28

question... my ds is almost 6 months and i want to introduce a breakfast solid meal, but am confused as to what to give....
Other than baby porridge, is there anything else i can give him?

FloriaTosca · 30/03/2008 22:41

Nellie((((((HUGS)))))) I really feel for you, I'm sure we all would be just as concerned if it was us, do you have any Bach Rescue Remedy? It really helps in stressful situations like this. Everything will be fine I'm sure and just think of the benefits for her when it is done. My friends lo has Downs and needed open heart surgery at a similar age, he was pulling his lines out whilst still in recovery and was rolling for the first time within the week...I'm sure M will be over it before you can blink...We'll be thinking of you all tomorrow...Let us know how she is as soon as you can.

LLL Well done on your weight loss. I hope the appointment gets Ben sorted.

Choc congrats on the house sale and the new one

We had our first night out without Alex last night...friends invited us to dinner at a local restaurant and offered the babysitting services of their 19yr old daughter...I had more than one glass of wine for the first time in 15 months and very much enjoyed myself got to bed at 2 except it was by then 3,and Alex woke at 4 and 7 ..fortunately he didnt seem to suffer any ill effects from my alcohol excess and he came out to dinner tonight bright eyed and bushy tailed with the whole family to celebrate fils birthday..I dont think I'll be with LLL celebrating a good weight loss this week!

PolarMummy · 30/03/2008 22:46

Hello everyone, Tried to catch up on all the posts but I am rather tired at the moment, I have never missed that hours sleep so much before

Nellie thinking of you hope all goes well tomorrow, I am sure it will. I am with alice that staff nurse should think of getting a new job as she obviously isn't suited to nursing.

LLL I hope Ben's app goes well also and that they are able to find something to help his itching.

Well news from Polarland miss Zoe is on 2 spoon feeds a day which she loves, getting her to take her bottles is still a bit hit and miss she knows what she wants and if she doesn't want her bottle then she will not take it! She also has 2 teeth she got her first one at 4 1/2 months! She is also rolling over so lying on her back is boring now! She isn't quite sitting on her own but she almost is so this will probably be the next thing she masters it all happens so quickly! Sleeping is another matter she can sleep through but doesn't a lot of the time, she isn't grumpy or crying or anything but is laughing and singing! Its just so loud that I can't sleep! Oh well c'est la vie.

Hope you have all had a good weekend and that you have fun planned for the week ahead.

Dalrymps · 30/03/2008 23:00

Hey PolarMummy! Wow, sounds like Zoe is really coming on teeth, feeds rolling over! Sounds like you're having lots of fun, Dylan can roll from front to back but not back to front yet, his arm gets in the way and he can't work out why he's stuck
Choc- meant to say, congrats on the house buying/selling, where you moving to?

muppetgirl · 31/03/2008 09:13

Nellie -thinking of you today, hope all goes well with M x

J20 - have accepted you and

Dal - I found you! (I am so impressed with myself as I'm not really any good at this computer lark) I've been sent some disney chracters by a friend?????

Well Henry has a cold and woke up 3 times last night. Really unlike him. He was grabbing his ear so I think it might be teeth or an earache, hard to tell when they're so little. I have a fun day of hugging the toilet as I'm not allowed to eat anything (clear liquid only but as I hate bovril I'll stick to the boiled sweets) and I have to take a laxative in preparation for my barium enema tomorrow. Oh what joy having children is....I don't think we'll be having anymore as I think my pelvic floor and my girlie bits have really had enough!

Mine - we give Henry whizzed up shredded wheat as it is 100% wheat with nothing else added (I sound like the advert!) You can also try wheatbix but that does have suger and salt in. You can also try a bit of toast if lo will take it and have a knaw, yes theu don;t strictly chew it but it does get soggy enough for them to swallow.
