Dal yes it was me saying Adam only takes small feeds. He has them at approx 7.30, 11, 2-3, 6.30, 10.30 and one during the night. And has 3-5oz at each feed.

When we were at mum and dad's last week he started taking much more - between 7-9oz plus an extra feed too. But he will only eat what he will eat so I just let him do what he likes really. Doesn't affect his sleep...

Just chatting to sis so back later...

Hi all, Mrs Fish here, I'm trying out a new name as I have the Mrs Fish one on a number of forums so want to be a bit more anonymous. Plus DH can't spy on what I'm writing either Name inspired due to the fact that I have lost over a stone since Jan and I'm only 8lb off my pre-pregnancy weight now

AnyasMum07 · 28/03/2008 20:55

Muppet - sounds like the decision over the 50th birthday is best all round!

All these greedy piglets! Anya's on 2 meals plus 4 other feeds - will give it another week then add breakfast as well. Haven't tried anything exotic yet though - want to wait for 6 months to be safe. Dal - Anya only takes small feeds too - 7, 9:30, 12:30 (with lunch), 3, 6 (with tea), 10. 30oz-ish in total so about 5 per feed.

Ouch FT!

ejt - poor Mairwen, hope she's better.

MrsF - liking the new name!

Dalrymps · 28/03/2008 22:12

Oh good, that makes me feel better not everyones baby is guzzling 8oz a feed, thought I was the only one .
Well, we tried the new routine tonight, a partial success, he was fussy with his last 2 feeds so didn't end up having his 8pm feed till 9.30 so we put him to bed after that, he screamed a bit so we pretended to go to bed and lay on the bed for a while and then I stroked his head a bit and he calmed right down, we've now bwwn downstairs about 10 mins and not a peep yet, fingers crossed! Well at least he's gone to bed a bit earlier than usual, probably best to gradually work towards the 8pm target anyway
Gonna try find a farm shop tomorrow and buy some organic veg so I can make and freeze some purees in preperation for weaning, he'll be 6 old on 29th April, can't wait, although i'm prepared to do it a week or two early if things get really crazy but he's ok at the mo, starting to watch us eat occasionally but no other real signs apart from that, don't mind waiting as I feel like i've only just got his milk feeding sorted anyway!
LES - wow, can't beleive the amount of different things your lo is eating, bet Dylan will be the total opposite, he even spits strawberry flavoured calpol out!

Dalrymps · 28/03/2008 22:15

that was supposed to say 'been downstairs' ... and that he'll be 6 MONTHS old on 29th April. Must be due to the 2 sips of wine i've had

Mine · 28/03/2008 22:18

Dal - now you have a baby monitor it probably will make a huge difference in lo's sleep if he's now going to be upstairs/seperate room.
My ds was the same as yours when he was 2-3 months old.... sleeping in moses basket always in the same room as i was until i had to get to bed, taking feeds very regularly and getting up at night, but then i 'tweaked' his sleeping environment and it made the world of difference. It goes something like this....
Bath at 7
Last feed 7.30pm
Put in his cot (in my room) with ALL lights off, curtains drawn. basically pitch black to avoid any stimulation/distractions.
He will go straight to sleep and wake up at 6am or 7am.

He;ll take 6-8pz every 3 hours'ish and naps for 30mins only every 2 hours until 7pm when we do it all over again!

He needed to be 'trained' to associate darkness with bedtime in order to go to sleep.

i guess the sort answer is that now your lo will not have to sleep in a lit room with TV and noise he'll defo sleep better.

Does this make any sense... have a feeling i'm babbling!!

Dalrymps · 28/03/2008 22:28

Yes that makes loads of sense, thats basically why I got the monitor as you say... He's always been very good at associating dark with sleep and always been a good sleeper through the night, it's just cause we didn't have the monitor we couldn't reallt provide the dark, quiet environment in the lounge so he would just nap and get woken by us accidentally making noises. He would usually feed at about 11.30pm but we're just gonna see when he wakes if at all tonight and go with it. I am a bit concerned however that if he sleeps straight through he'll have missed a feed, he had weight gain issues a while ago although it's been better for just over a month now... Cause he only takes little feeds i'm not sure what i'll do if he misses a feed cause then i'll have to try and fit more in the day? Ah well suppose i'm just worrying before it's happened so we'll just play it by ear. Thanks for the advice, it gives me hope!

Mine · 28/03/2008 22:44

It took us a 3/4 nights to get the bedtime routine to this, so as you say just see how it goes, persevere and hopefully he'll take to it very well.
Doen't worry about his weight for missing a night time feed as babies NEVER go hungry.. he'll make up for it with his first feed of the day.
Plus as you probably know not all babies are the same. I stopped comparing ds ith other babies pretty early on as it was starting to make me paranoid. Your lo will gain weigh at his own speed.
Good luck tonight xx

FloriaTosca · 28/03/2008 22:45

J20; thanks for the advice...I have been feeding with my free hand on his cheek ready to stop him if he tries it again, but he didnt thank heavens [relieved emoticon]

EJT; sorry you had such a dreadful night, I hope Mairwen is ok ?

MrsF/LLL ... like it!

We tried cauliflower and brocolli today...it went everywhere! But he had fun (apart from a few gagging incidents) and the dog scoffed the discarded bits from under the chair.
I cant decide whether or not to go to bed early as Dh has gone off to the pub with his mates...I know I shouldn't complain, he hasn't been out with the lads since Christmas, but I'm selfishly miffed that I'm left at home alone...I suppose I'd better go try to get some shut eye rather than stewing about what I'm missing out on.

Dalrymps · 28/03/2008 23:16

Thanks for the advice main, yeah i'm sure he'll make up for it if he misses a feed... I really do have to stop comparing, I try really hard but whenever we're out and about other people ask how old he is then ALWAYS say 'oh he's tiny' or 'he's so small] , this make me paranoid!!!
In all honesty though, he's wonderful and happy and content and I should just concentrate on that, thanks again x
Alice - don't know if this is something you know about but wondered if you could help this person

TheLadyEvenstar · 29/03/2008 05:47

Dal,
he does eat a lot of different things and opposite to Dylan he loves the taste of calpol..well calcold, after having it he looks for more!!!

a few weeks ago he started letting us know when he wants things..like he has developed his own form of language with his hands. If he wants to go in his rocker and me to rock him he swings his leg up and down, like i do when i am rocking him with my foot, when he wants more food he bangs the tray of his high chair, along with a few other things like when he wants a bottle he puts his hand in and out of his mouth over and over again. I don't know how he has learnt this but it works lol.....

he sleeps from 8.45 through to 7.45am then has a bottle and goes back to sleep until 10.30. after that it is chatter chatter chatter all day lol.

Every baby is soooo different i am just unlucky or maybe lucky enough to have hungry greedy babies ds1 was the same lol and now he is such a picky eater at 9 yrs grrrrrrrrr

TheLadyEvenstar · 29/03/2008 05:49

Mine,
you are sooooo good, Zachary stays in the living room until i go to bed and then he is in bed with me most nights as dp works nights. I can't bear to put him into his bed in another room so he stays with me lol. Even yesterday afternoon when after his anti biotics and calpol dp put him in his cot so i sat with him lol i am such a wuss

Dalrymps · 29/03/2008 09:52

Les - you're not a wuss, it's natural instinct to want to have tem near at all times, I have to really fight the urge sometimes. I would probably have Dylan in our bed all night by now, the only thing thats stopped me is that my nephew is 16 mo old and sleeps with bil and sil every night and they can't get him to sleep in his cot at all at, think they're a bit sick of it and I don't want to end up the same or number 2 will never come along .
We're gonna try find a farm shop and buy some organic veg to make purees with today, think floria did this and it has inspired me .
The new routine went quite well overall last night, got Dylan to bed at 10pm as I said, he slept straight through to 5.20am when he had a bf and then I put him back in his cot (not our bed as usual) and he slept till 8.45 , Should have got him up a bit earlier for 'breakfast time' actually but it's the weekend so we thought we'd have a bit of a sleep in.

Mine · 29/03/2008 14:04

sounds like a successful night to me!!!

Does he take a dummy...???

AnyasMum07 · 29/03/2008 16:49

when you give lo a drink other than milk (so water, juice, etc) do you give it in a bottle or a cup??

LisaLessLumpy · 29/03/2008 17:38

I have started giving Ben water in a tommee tippee cup. I left it too late to introduce with sam and it took me ages to get him to drink out of a cup, and even now he won't drink milk out of a cup.

muppetgirl · 29/03/2008 18:18

WE HAVE A TOOTH!!!!

You can just see a white line on Henry's bottom gum and can feel it when he sucks your finger. Very excited! He also grabbed a couple of chips off my plate today when we were out and put them in his mouth, he didn;t know what to do with them when they were in his mouth but at least he's showing an interest in food. We have also put together Ollie's old cot and now Henry is having his first night in that as he was getting so ridiculously to big for his crib and regularky wedged his legs between the bars!

Oh my little boy is getting such a big boy

He didn't want my slamon, leek and carrot mush but I think that was because he got so overtired today. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Anyasmum - with Ollie we started with water in a tommy tippe cup at 'solid' food time. SO he had milk in his bottle and then at solids time we gave him water as we drink water with our meals. Will start H on water as soon as he really starts to show more of an interest in food.

LLL - love the new name!

Dal - Great news on the good night long may it continue!

TLES - I don;t think you;'re a wuss! I can totally uderstand why you have Zach in bed with you especially as your dp works nights. How is your ds 1? Just wondering after all the bad behaviour?

Alice, Polar, Choc, Appricott, Mine, Strawberry, Floria -a big hellow to you all!
(sorry if I've missed anyone x)

muppetgirl · 29/03/2008 18:19

Please forget the fact that I was ever supposedly a teacher....

That last post was awful!!!!!

muppetgirl · 29/03/2008 18:19

hellow ? WTF?

alicet · 29/03/2008 19:02

pmsl muppet!!!! I quite like hellow

Anyasmum we gave Sam his water in a bottle to start. He only really started using a beaker at nursery (after 9 months) but now uses beakers and cups no prob. Has regressed to bottles for milk since Adam's arrival (which he calls 'baby milk') but I can't be bothered to worry about that now. Giving Adam water in tommee tippee beaker too with food (although only once so far!) and will be more proactive with stopping his bottles and do Sam at the same time.

Lisa loving the new name and congrats on the weight loss!

OMG my memory escapes me for everyone else so I'm really sorry! Hello (w-) LES (missed you!), Choc, ejt, Apricott, J2O, Dal, Mine, nellie, strawberry, floria and everyone else!!!!

Inzi presume you're laptopless - thinking of you and hope scan goes OK!

Muppet congrats on tooth, discovered Zachary has one as well (yesterday) but not at front!!!!

as for ds1 well i have kept him off of school for 2 weeks after another child violently attacked him and punched him in his head. long story which i won't bore you with as i am still angry about it, anyway during this time he has been an angel until last night when we started gently reminding him he was back to school monday.

TheLadyEvenstar · 29/03/2008 19:19

oh gawd why do you have such good babies who drink water??? Zach will only drink aple n blackcurrant juice but not baby juice

muppetgirl · 29/03/2008 19:45

Hi TLES, sorry to hear of ds 1's school troubles. Do you think this could have been the cause to his mood swings? I must admit I never thought of school being the problem.

alicet · 29/03/2008 19:55

LES for ages Sam would only drink juice. I just started to dilute it more and more and eventually he would have water

muppetgirl · 29/03/2008 20:13

Can I ask a question Alice?

I have been given a physiotherapy continence group app for my 'troubles' where I will be given a lefelt on pelvic floor exercises, which will be explained and if they don't hear anything back I will be discharged from the service.

Now, I haven't actually been diagnosed with anything yet -does this matter?
I have been given a leafelt about pelvic floor exercises when I was disharged with H -is this one any different?
What does continence actually mean? I understand incontinence to be when you wet yourself so what does continence mean?

I do understand this might no be your area!
