oops forgot to say, glad Ollie had a good b'day

My news, have managed to get an appt with a specialist for Ben regarding his skin. Although he is much better on the soya milk he still isn't right plus he is constantly scratching himself, especially his head which looks like a road map with all the bloody scratches on it I am hoping they can help more, if I don't put the steroid cream on for one day he gets worse again, and that can't be right. So that is on monday, I am keeping my fingers crossed they can help or at least give me a reason as to why he is so bad.

muppetgirl · 27/03/2008 21:04

Mrs Fish - Great news on the app, I hope they can help him x
Henry was 17lb 13ozs 3 weeks ago and he as been putting on 7/8ozs per week so I think he'll be roughly 18/19lbs. (20 weeks)

Do we think I should up the solids? I give him set amount which he's always eaten, generally 2 large ice-cubes (the weaning cubes that are bigger than ordinary ice cubes) do you think I should try 3?

He has eaten
parsnip, pear, apple (not liked than much) sweet potato, butternut squash, banana, carrot (not liked much)

What would you all try next?

He's 20 weeks.

FloriaTosca · 27/03/2008 21:44

Anyasmum; Well done Anya on getting where she wants to go! There are a couple of osteos advertising CO in my local NCT magazine...though Clitheroe is a bit of a trek for you...their website is WWW dot kendalhouse dot com if you want to have a look...hope Dh comes round

MrsFish;for poor Ben, it must be dreadful for him. I hope the consultant can help.

Muppet;Alex seems to have similar tastes as Henry except that he's not too fond of pear either and his dislike of carrot is only in its mashed form, he loved a whole steamed baby carrot to chew on. We tried mashed potato tonight with moderate sucess and a chunk of cheese with great sucess and will be trying steamed cauliflower and broccolli florets tomorrow....
Alex is now our dogs favourite person; never having been fed at table, manna from heaven now falls from Alexs high chair!
Oh and Happy Birthday Ollie, glad it was a good one (and hope the jellies were set)

ChocolateHobnob · 28/03/2008 08:11

Hello all!

Having a bad time here but popping by briefly. My inlaws arrived yesterday. Last night R just WOULDNT go to bed. Despite her sleep problems, she always goes to bed - not last night. Last night she screamed for 2 hours...
then she was okay, went to bed, etc. But trauma!

Will catch up properly later
xx

muppetgirl · 28/03/2008 08:28

Just a quickie -Choc I hope Rebecca gives you some rest soon!

Henry woke again at 4.30am this morning. He was cols as he'd kicked his blankets off so I put a fleecy one on him adn then he went to sleep. I woke him up at 8am as I'm going to start waking him rather than letting him sleep so much in the morning. I ground down some porridge oats last night and made him some up with his milk. He loved it! So we have shredded wheat (no added salt or sugar if the advert is to be belived!) for tomorrow. I'm going to investigate making him a baby rice pudding as I used to give that to Oliver for pudding and he was definately bulked out by that.

Floria - will try the cooked carrot stick tonight and see what he does, I do give him a spoon to hold when I feed him and that goes straight in his mouth so I would think the carrot would to! Good luck with the Brocolli floret both in terms of mess made (a little bit goes a loooooonnnnnggggg way I seem to remember!) and the poo that comes out the other end!

Hen's off to nursery not sure what to do with Ollie as it's raining. Might wrap up, take the dogs out and go and splash in puddles

FloriaTosca · 28/03/2008 09:47

G'd Morning All

Last night for the first time as Alex finished bf he clamped down on my nipple really hard and flung himself away, stretching my nipple until it snapped out of his mouth!...the pain was utterly excruciating, it made me cry (and I'm honestly not a wimp about physical pain normally) For a second I thought he had actually bitten it off!!! It is still sore this morning and I was actually frightened of feeding him at 4am...as it happened it was just uncomfortable on that side, not agonising... I very much enjoy bfing and really dont want to stop after getting to 6 months, but I can't have that happening again especially once he gets teeth...He obviously found it a great game and was laughing up at me..I sat him up and told him that it wasn't funny, that he had hurt mummy and that was a bad thing to do...he stopped laughing and looked very serious but of course he was responding to my tone not the content of my speach...What on earth can I do to stop it happening again? Any ideas anyone?

J2O · 28/03/2008 10:10

awww FT poor you, Shannon used to take my nipple with her when she was trying to look round, its horrible. is there anyway that when you think he's about to finish you can hold him really close to you to stop him doing it and slip your little finger into his mouth to seperate mouth and nipple?

Choc-sympathies, hope you manage to get some rest today, was she maybe a little unsettled because you had people there? Shannon has a screaming fit on a evening, mainly when she's with other people but has done it with me too.

muppet-splashing in puddles sounds fun!!not for me though, think i'll stay in my nice warm house today! have you tried normal mash potato, i've done a mix of mash, sweet potato and carrot, that i've just started giving Shannon at tea time, only one large ice cube though and she has a mixture of baby rice and breakfast ceral at dinner time, she still prefers her bottle though.

all those that are doing baby signing, how do you teach them? whenever i'm eating, Shannon will start moving her arm, like beating her chest, as in 'feed me' type action, until i saw 'all gone' and then she screams at me! its quite funny.

we had an awful night again last night, i can't wait for these teeth to make an appearance.

does anyone know where i can get a police woman dressing up outfit, i know that Ann Summers do them but they're a bit out of my price range at the moment, i'm on a hen night in a few weeks so need to get one soon!

alicet · 28/03/2008 10:22

Floria ouch that sounds painful! Never had this with Sam but a mate did with hers. She used to take him off, say 'NO!' very firmly and wait a few seconds to put him back on so he knew it wasn't on. Before 6 months they don't really respond to this but about 6 months they begin to be able to respond to this kind of thing. Might take a few attempts for him to learn though...

Anyasmum I was a sceptic about the co too but I just thought whats the worst that can happen? He's no better and we're a few quid out of pocket but comparing that to the possible benefit I think it's a no brainer to give it a go. And you can tell dh I'm a cynical surgeon who is meant to think all this alternative stuff is a load of crap too! Personally and sceptical about anything not mainstream but having said that there are things that work that we can't find an explanation for so I always think its worth giving other things a go when the more traditional approaches aren't getting you anywhere...

Choc thinking of you with your inlaws. Just what you need to have r playing up when they are there! Hope she is better today and that you had some sleep last night...

Muppet glad Ollie had a lovely birthday.

MrsFish good luck for appt on Monday.

Hello everyone else! Adam is having a mammoth sleep this am - hope he wakes soon as we're menat to be going out at 11! Off now to get our bits and pieces together anyway.... See you all later x

alicet · 28/03/2008 10:23

Oh and J2O you can get a lot of fancy dress stuff on ebay - have a look there...

OP posts:
muppetgirl · 28/03/2008 11:29

OOOO floria, have clamped my arms over my boobs in sympathy, that sounds really painful! J20 had some good advice, I would try that...

I have just made salmon, carrot and leek mush for Henry and rice pudding with nutmeg. Ill see how he goes with that. I think I'm going to do a mini spag bol without the meat (onions, garlic, courgette, tomatoes, basil and a bit of potato shuved in to) Ollie liked really strong flavours very early on -he used to take out our slice of lemon in drinks and eat it, loved garlic and spices, loved grapefruit etc.

Ollie is currently 'Captain Oliver' and I am 'Captain Mummy' and he is hunting for treasure (will he find those birthday presents I wonder ?)

See you all later 'me hearties!

alicet · 28/03/2008 12:58

Sam takes our slices of lemon too!!! Just wince as I see him merrily chomping on it!!!

Liking the idea of Captain mummy!!!!

ejt1764 · 28/03/2008 13:17

I've spent the night in a&e ... mairwen poorly sick ... [yawn] ... and the morning being an alien - I think I'd prefer to be Captain Mammy!

alicet · 28/03/2008 13:33

EJt sorry to hear mairwen not well... Sending you big get well soon vibes....

OP posts:
MrsFish · 28/03/2008 14:16

Ejt - hope mairwen is better soon

I have spent the morning being man on the moon and dancing around to Sam's CD to the book 'Man on the moon' Now need to finish the job I started of wiping over the floors and woodwork now that the plasterers have gone Sam is having a teddy bears tea party so I'd better make the most of it

MrsFish · 28/03/2008 14:31

Is the internet being incredibly slow for anyone else?? even google is going at a snails pace

Dalrymps · 28/03/2008 15:00

OO ARRR Muppet, hope the toys turn up!
Sorry haven't posted that much lately. just been busy doing this and that, was dh's birthday this wed so been rushing around getting him presents, we went over to pils and had a nice meal on the day.
Floria - ouch! Think J20 is right with her advice, hopefully, once Alex realises the fed is interrupted if he does that he'll stop.
Alice - Hope Adam woke up in time!
J20 - hope those teeth appear soon, Dylan's not been too bad with that lately, probably the calm before the storm!
MrsFish - Glad Ollie had a nice birthday
Choc - Hope you get lots more sleep soon (((((sending sleepy vibes)))))
Anyasmum - wow on Anya 'travelling', Dylan's just started this recently too, he keeps ending up sideways in his cot and once was upside down (feet right at the top end). Your birth story sounds very tiring! I would have declined the pushing too! My labour was only about 6 hrs from when the real pain started and that was enough for me!
Apricot - sorry to hear you've been ill, hope you're feeling better now
Nellie - Not sure what to advise about the formula, as people have said it may or may not make a difference. Think it's important to remember whatever you decide it doesn't have to be final, you could just try it the once and if things are no better then go back to bfing that feed the next day. Or, equally you could just see how it goes and have a think about it for a bit longer if you're not sure. Sorry, thats not really much help is it
Ejt - Congratulations on the weight loss! I need to start dieting, I weight 9 and a half stone when I got together with dh and now i'm 12st... he doesn't care but i'm sick of feeling uncomfortable in my clothes, I eat far too much chocolate... Is it weightwatchers you're on?
Strawberry - Glad you had a nice easter
Polar - Hi! nice to hear from you, do pop back soon and let us know whats been happening in polarland.
Hi to Stefka, mine, inzi, and anyone i've forgotten.
Well, my mission at the moment is to try to get Dylan in to a routine of going to bed earlier. At the moment he has naps throughout the day whenever he's tired which are on my knee/dh's knee/pil's knee's/buggy or moses basket in the lounge (he just about still fits in it cause he's a little elf). He 'goes to bed' properly in his cot at about 11.30pm when we do and sleeps until about 6.45 (when dh gets up), he then has a feed and sleeps till anywhere between 9.30-11.30 in our bed with me.
So... as you can see, the routine at the moment is kind of all over the place apart from him sleeping from 11.30pm to 6.45am at night. One problem was that up until now I had no baby monitor so if we tried to get him to go to bed at 8pm it would have to be in his moses in the lounge and we would have to then sit in the dark with the tv on low whispering, he did sleep but I don't want to spend every evening like that! Anyway, I bought some monitors off ebay and they arrived today so i'm gonna start trying to sort out a new routine, i'd like him to go to bed at 8pm, have his last feed at 11ish then sleep through till the morning and have a few naps in the day, i'm thinking forwards to when he's weaned so he's not asleep when he's supposed to be eating breakfast!
Sorry, i've babbled on for ages now, any tips on the routine would be greatly appreciated
Catch ya all soon

Dalrymps · 28/03/2008 15:04

oh my god that was long but x posted - Ejt hope Mairwen is better soon.
Also think mrsfish was asking about the net going slow, mine was this morn but I restarted the laptop and now it's fine so maybe try that

muppetgirl · 28/03/2008 15:13

Ejt- how's Mairwen now? Sorry to hear she's ill

We've just got back from a long walk in the local 'park with the large house' Ollie loved the puddles and the light was great so I've taken some photos, I'll get dh to put them on my profile later. I am now colouring in the pirtae ship that Ollie got in his pirate activity chest that his friend gave him for his birthday. He's already studied the treasure map and has told me where he's been!

muppetgirl · 28/03/2008 15:19

Hi Dal - we're in a routine just because we have to get Ollie out in the mornings to school. With Ollie we just decided that we would try to get him to eat around the same times as we did and we knew we wanted him in bed by at least 7. It just sort of fell into place from there really. Henry's routine follows what Ollie has to do in the day

wake up/get woken up 7.45 ish (school day but he would galdly sleep till 9-9.30am if left!)

7.45am bottle
10-11am nap
11.30 bottle
12pm lunch
3.30 bottle
5 tea
6 bottle
6.20 bed after story in Ollie's room

TheLadyEvenstar · 28/03/2008 15:29

oh gawd reading your threads on what all the lo's are eating is makng me wonder if i have introduced Zachary to too many flavours lol...this boy eats everything...and i mean everything...digestives, roast pork, lamb, beef, chicken, spaghetti bolognaise, chocolate, ice cream, chips, roast potatoes, sausages, scrambled egg, beans...you name it lol not forgetting toast and jam. Yesterday he had his first happy meal it was a fish finger one and a drop of choc milk shake. Today he has had his first bottle of tea.

Have also been to the dr's with him as he is very chesty had huge row there as 1st called at 8.30 to be told i could have a telephone consultation which i plainly told them would be no good. then phoned back got appt for 11.40 and eventually got seen at 12.50....to not even be told what was wrong with him just sent away with prescription for anti-biotics. So called Pals and am hopefully going to get resigned at my previous gps.......fingers x'd.

sorry for me me me post am a bit p'eed off today with dr's

muppetgirl · 28/03/2008 15:55

A prgt man???

alicet · 28/03/2008 16:03

I wish muppet Might have more babies then!!!!!

OP posts:
Dalrymps · 28/03/2008 16:06

Muppet - thanks for the advice about routine, yeah that preggers guy story was on the news the other day, how weird!!!
I think i'll try to write down what Dylan does over next few days and then I can start to work out a routine to fit

strawberrylace · 28/03/2008 17:11

hello everyone!
I feel like i haven't been here for ages and you have all been doing so much...
So happy birthday to people who've had birthdays, hope hungry babies are less hungry now, and that poorly babies are on the mend. And that tired mummies and babies have had some sleep!
DS and I had a day out with his two grandmas yesterday, and today have had a friend and her LO round for a cuppa and a chat - the babies played beautifully together, which was nice.
Once DH is home we are going to pop round to see some friends who had their second little boy yesterday - only not so little as he was 9lb 8oz!
DS is sitting up properly on his own now, and gets most frustrated on his front as he is desperately trying to crawl, but can only go backwards. He lifts himself up on to his hands and knees, but pushes back instead of going forwards....

Dalrymps · 28/03/2008 17:38

Right, i've written down roughly what happens during a day, the problem I have with Dylan is being able to get enough milk in to him as he refuses to drink more than 5oz at a feed so he takes little and often so I have to make sure he's had enough milk in 24hrs...
The day goes roughly like this

7am bf
nap till
10am 5oz ff
12.30 5oz ff
nap till
15.00 5oz ff
17.30 5oz ff
20.00 5oz ff
Hopefully at this point he'll go off to bed till
23.00 5oz ff
...and then sleep through to 6.45 when i'll get up, change nappy and start again.

I worry that once I start weaning it'll be difficult to fit everything in to the day as he doesn't just have a few big feeds. Was it Alice that was saying Adam only takes small feeds? Has this improved any? any tips?
