Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi all

I had chicken pox at 21 after catching it form a little boy I was looking after at the time. Both my brothers had it when they were little at separate times adn my parents had chicken pox parties so we'd all get it but I never did. I felt soooooo ill with it so I would defintely agree with getting it sooner rather than later as lo's do deal with it better.

I had my 1st hospital app yesterday which was supposed to be a IVU xray but when I got there they had changed their minds and did a CT scan instead. Something about CT scan being 3-d and this would give them a better picture of what may be the trouble. I then had a nightmare getting home as there had been a terrible crash between two lorries on the main duel carriageway to get home. It took me over an hour to do a 10 min journey! When I got home I asked dh where H was and he said in bed -it was just before six I found H's solid food still in the container in the sink and asked him why he hadn't eaten anything and dh said he didn't take any -even bigger
It turns out dh was a little frazzled looking after the two of them (it was 2 hrs fgs!) and decided to put H to bed as he knew he would sleep. I said H would wake early as he would be hungry as you can't have the routine of eating solid food for three weeks and then suddenly stop one night. Sure enough H woke at 4.55am starving so dh got up and gave him a bottle and he drunk the full 9ozs. DH is usually fab but I think he was trying to work at the same time which wasn't the deal especially around dinner/bedime. He takes the path of least resistance but doesn't realise this has a knock on effect somehwere else.
We're going to soft play this morning as Ollie is off school for 3 weeks and I need to fill the days
Speak soon
x

Hi all ... we've had an interesting couple of days - Mairwen has caught Rhydian's cold, and threw up all over dh last night (tee hee - makes a change that it isn't me!) I've spent more time in the chair in her room than in my own bed ... and I feel lousy ...

but on the positive side ...

I've now lost 15lbs! and that's despite eating chocolate like it's going out of fashion since Sunday!

Mum has brought the Christening robe she's made round today - it reduced me to tears - it is exquisite! Don't know how we're going to get her in her car seat though !

muppetgirl - it makes me laugh when the DHs can't cope with both children for a couple of hours ... am glad that your dh was the one to get up at stupid o'clock this morning!

Who is trying to avoid chicken pox? Don't - it's much easier to cope with when they're little - I've had it twice - once as a child, then again at 28 - I got sent home from school with chicken poX

Nellie (I think) - the reason that lo is getting problems with wind may be that they're getting too much food ... some lo's digestive systems aren't quite ready yet...

Well, the tripp-trapp chair is now at the kitchen table, and Mairwen is joining us for meals - she loves sitting in it, and joining in the conversation. I've given her a floret of brocolli to suck on - that was interesting - I never knew brocolli could be spread so far, and she's had some boiled potato, and liked it. Still not officially started solids ... think we'll go for it next week, when she's 6 months - can't get over how quickly it's come around!

Am going to do some Welsh now while M. sleeps - mum is here to clean the house, so I can't go to bed [knackered emoticon]

oh, and the hat turned out lovely - I managed to send it on Thursday (less than 24 hours after the pattern was released), but it hasn't got there yet. My opponent sent hers on Friday from the USA, so it's now a battle between the international postal services ... the postman's just been, and no hat, so I live to fight another day!

AnyasMum07 · 26/03/2008 13:11

FT - over cake!

J2O - poor Shannon - sending lots of sympathy and hugs her way.

nellie - wind doesn't seem to cause Anya a problem, but she's very good at farting !

ejt - congrats on weight loss!

Not much to report here. Has anybody tried cranial osteopathy (sp?) with their lo's? Was chatting to someone today who's done it very successfully for her lo's and I wondered whether it might settle Anya a bit - given that she got her head stuck during birth and there was quite a bit of pulling to get it out (don't think I've ever posted my birth saga...)

alicet · 26/03/2008 13:56

J2O I certainly wouldn't lambast you for choosing to get your dd's ears pierced in I'm sure sterile conditions. Not my cup of tea but that's your choice as her mum. I think what is so shocking about the mil thread I posted is that she chose to do it deliberately against the wishes of her dil and the dil's dh went along with it!

Ejt hope your hat gets there first!!!
Sorry you feel crap but fab news on the weight loss - well done!

Nellie I've sent you the sleep doc...

Anyasmum Adam had cranial osteo - in fact he's still having it. It's recommended for all manner of deliveries - including my elective section - for all manner of problems including restlessness, sleep probs, reflux and colic to name but a few. I took Adam because in his first 6 weeks or so he was a really screamy unhappy baby and he has certainly been transformed since about week 12. It's difficult to say whether this is due to the co or whether it would have been his normal development but it certainly hasn't done him any harm. At couple of the sessions I have been able to visibly see him responding to what is happening so something is going on even though it looks like the guy is doing very little. So I would try it if I were you. It won't do any harm and if it does some good then it's a bargain at £24 a go! There are a lot of threads on it on here if you have a look...

Strawberry glad you had a lovely Easter

Muppet at your dh choosing the path of least resistance - at least he was the one to get up in the night! Hope you get your CT results soon - usually it does give more info than an IVU although t does depend a bit on precisely what they are looking for...

Well not much to report from here. The decorator is in painting the bathroom. Then there are a few finishing touches that need sorting and then it's done! Yippee!!!!

OP posts:
Mine · 26/03/2008 15:10

I took ds to see co when he was teeny weeny as he had terrible colic and would not sleep or bf properly.
He went from 3 weeks old for 4 weeks and i saw a massive improvement in sleep and feeding the same night as the first session. It was money very well spent. I highly recommend it.

In fact it was suggested to me by my hv at the time, so speak to your hv to recommend one they have approval on.

AnyasMum07 · 26/03/2008 15:49

Alice - £24 per go!? I've just phoned the Children's Clinic in Manchester and they quoted me £90 for the first consultation and £76 for each treatment . Think I need to shop around...

Mine - good idea, will talk to hv.

muppetgirl · 26/03/2008 16:15

HI all
Alice - thanks for the words re the CT scan I did ask what they were looking for but the lady said it was purely investigative atm. I have this dreaded barium enema thing next tues and have the consultants app on the 5th May so at least I will find out pretty soon if anything's the matter.

I have a stinking headache atm, you knoe, the type where you feel your head will explode when changinf a nappy. have just taken some painkillers and are hoping it goes away very soon. H is in bed having a nap adn Ollie is in the car! I didn't want to wake him )fate worse than death!) so I left him as I can see him through the playroom window.

We had a lovely morning round a friends house with 2 of Ollie's school friends and then solftplay after. No wonder we're all knackered!

Mine · 26/03/2008 16:16

blimey! I thought £24 was a bit steap but looks like it was a bargain.

does this help..... www.cranial.org.uk/

PolarMummy · 26/03/2008 16:43

Hello!! Haven't managed to post for ages, RL seems to keep getting in the way! I just about manage to catch up on all the posts and then as I am about to post the phone rings or miss Zoe needs attention or something

I have only managed to catch up on the last page of posts so I hope you are all doing well and that your los are doing well too. I also hope that the sleeping has improved for those of you that were having problems. Its a bit of a mixed bag for us!

nellieloula · 26/03/2008 16:59

alice and floria, thanks so much for the slep doc. will try and digest tonight! My problem isn't getting her to sleep - the first stretch is usually around 4 or 5 hours but then up every 2 after that. Tonight I really want to see what happens if I don't give in and feed her - risky with DH away, but hey! Can but see. Fingers crossed DS sleeps through!

ejt - well done on the weight loss. I really need to do somehting about that too, but think I've got enough on at the moment to be honest. Another month of looking and feeling like a whale won't kill me

muppet - hope the headache's gone.

big hello to everyone else. will try and pop in later on.

muppetgirl · 26/03/2008 18:37

Hi Polar!

Nellie- the headaches going but still there a little x

Well it's oliver's birthday tomorrow and I can't believe he's 4!!! He said to me when Henry was crying today 'it's okay mummy, I can quieten him, I'm ready to be four'
God I love him xxxxxx

Dh has just phoned to say he can work from home tomorrow so he's around for Ollie's birthday. I can't believe I'm the mother of a four year old!!!

alicet · 26/03/2008 19:36

Hi Polar! Great to hear from you - you have been missed x

Muppet give Ollie a big kiss from me and wish him a lovely birthday. Hope you have a fab day tomorrow and that your headache clears up...

Nellie good luck for tonight!

Anyasmum def shop around! Can't remember where I got the details of mine but think I put 'cranial osteopathy baby newcastle' or something similar into google... Think Mine's suggestion is a good one. Alternatively post asking for advice on here - there is a lot in behaviour and development (or something similar?) I think

Hello everyone else! Mine, Floria, Choc, Dal, ejt, mrsfish, j2o - oh this is risky as my memory has now drawn a blank!!!! Hello to all of you named and not

J2O · 26/03/2008 21:19

muppet-try being the mother of a nearly 8 year old! arghhhh

i've been thinking about CO, i really need to have a word with my hv about it and get some information, Shannon is so fidgety and sometimes seems really unsettled i always wonder if its to do with the venthouse and forceps at birth. Anyasmum, tell us your birth story!!

Shannon has finally gone to sleep, i really don't know what to do to help her with her teeth, i feel so helpless, i'm sure dd1 wasn't this bad, but i suppose i had more support then so i could hand her to someone else for a while and so maybe just don't remember it being this bad.

has any of you ladies had any breast surgery? i've been contemplating a lift for a while, or possibly implants, because i developed so early as a child i used to squash them down with a tight swimming costume under my school uniform to try and hide them and of course childbirth and bf hasn't helped, now i am so ashamed of them, spaniels ears come to mind, but i don't know where to start about finding out about it, i posted a thread a while ago on mn but nobody answered, i'm wondering if i should visit my GP to see if they offer reccomendations but i doubt they will be allowed, so any thoughts would be appreciated.

when was Inzi's scan? soon isn't i, i hope she's ok.

hi Polar!

Ejt-well done you! i think you've passed all the weight to me!

Nellie-hope you start getting some sleep soon, Shannon has been waking in the night, but i don't feed her, i normally just put her in bed with me and try to ignore her!

hope i haven't missed anyone!!

alicet · 26/03/2008 22:01

J2O you certainly should be able to get advice from your GP as to who you should see but I would be very surprised if you could get anything done on the NHS. If you wanted to see someone privately ask to see a plastic surgeon specialising in breast surgery. Ask to see before and after pics not just of their good results but also average results and bad complications so you get a good idea what could happen. Anyone reputable will be very happy to provide these.

FWIW I think you have great tits although obviously I don't know what they look like with your clothes off!

OP posts:
J2O · 26/03/2008 22:12

pmsl Alice, thanks, but i'm under no illusion of the state of them, they're bad! i know i wont get it on the NHS, just need to know the best way of going about finding a reputable surgeon. thanks for the advice, i will remember that when i look into it properly

Apricott · 27/03/2008 00:05

Hi ladies,

Lovely to catch up with you all again after yet another absence. This time I've been ill . Felt kind of queasy on Friday morning, was puking and worse by Friday night. What felt like weeks of nausea followed. Finally felt better yesterday. For a horrifying moment or two there I thought I might be pg again - until dh reminded me that you have to have sex to get pregnant .

Anyway, I seem to be over it now, thank goodness.

So ...

ejt - fantastic weight loss news - well done!

j20 - hope things are going ok on the love life front. Hearing about L's attitude made me see red - I hate that 'I don't want a relationship, but I want you to myself' way of thinking. Am always wary of commenting on other people's relationships like this, as general response tends to be 'oh, didn't I tell you, we're back together now'. Just hope it's going the way you want it and you're having fun. Envy you your energy!!!

Alice - great news re heating and bathroom

Muppet (and j20) - try being the mum of a soon to be 13 year old - it just gets faster and faster. oh, and Muppet, your mil sounds like a mad old bint (is that rude? I'm never sure). I just can't believe she thinks it's ok to make plans for Ollie to stay in a foreign country with people he's never met without you ffs.

Belated Happy Birthday Floria

Hi Polar!

I'm getting very tired now. Bed beckons. Big waves to everyone, especially those I haven't mentioned individually.

Baby news here: H hasn't pooed since last Thursday .

Nightynight

A xxxxx

nellieloula · 27/03/2008 06:33

morning everyone. well mynight was a disaster! Not because of Madeleine really; DS had bad asthmatic cough and threw a wobbler cause he couldn't settle. I really felt for him until about midnight when it got bloddy irritating to be honest. Finally settled him after 2, having fed M twice by that point, then she was up again at 3 then WIDE awake just after 5. DS was up at 6. I am zombie woman I really want to sort M's sleep out but I have no idea how I am going to do that really. DH is only home one night this week and next....maybe I'll just have to hang on until he finishes on this job in July. Has anyone introduced formula and seen a difference in sleep patterns?

how was everyone else's night? Apricot, I wouldn't worry about H's poo - M doesn't go for days at a time. I thought weaning may help but doens't seem to.

right - better go and get some caffeine. hope everyone has a good morning.

muppetgirl · 27/03/2008 11:07

Nellie - My friend ex b/f but was getting no longer than 4 hrs of sleep at a time (I posted on here to ask advice) she introduced a bottle at 10pm adn it made no difference. SHe weaned him early and although he ate like a mad eaty thing his sleep patterns didn't change. He's 8 months now and still not sleeping longer than 4 hrs adn she's back at work yesterday and is also 6 weeks prgt!

Apricott - yep, she's a mad old bint all right. Get this, she's bought Ollie a goal post for his birthday but is keeping it at her house...You can imagine the conversation can't you, 'Yes Oliver this is your birthday present. Take it home? What on earth gave you the idea that you could take it home?' Apparently it's because he has 'too many toys anyway so this can be left at my [her] house.'

Henry woke up at 5am again but I refused to feed him (bad mum, bad bad mum!) I put another blanket on him as he was cold and went back to sleep. He woke again at 6.30 and had 9ozs whilst Ollie opened his presents. He then wanted another bottle at 8.20am and had another 9ozs! I think I need to start giving him breakfast too...

I have just made 5 jellies in ramekins for Ollie's friends for his birthday lunch. Not sure it's going to set in time but hey, they'll still like strawberry flavoured goo!

alicet · 27/03/2008 13:50

Happy Birthday Ollie!!! Hope you have a lovely day Muppet and Ollie (and hungry Henry too of course! ) and sure the strawberry goo will be fab!

Apricott lovely to see you again but really sorry you have been ill - not funny with a lo to look after! Hope H has managed a poo!

Nellie sorry to hear about your shite night. Formula made a MASSIVE difference to Sam - we introduced a bottle at night and he went from being a feed for an hour sleep for an hour boy to sleeping for 4 hours after that. Rest of night still crap though but the unbroken 4 hours made it more bearable. With Adam though it made not a jot of difference. I guess it depends on why they're waking - with Adam I'm presuming it wasn't so much hunger and that maybe my breast milk was better quality than it was with Sam? Who knows - might make a difference but certainly not the magic answer!

We have been out to a baby music class this am which was a lot of fun, and a few more finishing touches to the bathroom and it's looking fab! Just a little more work tomorrow and it will all be done! Very excited! Just have 2 boys to trash it now

OP posts:
nellieloula · 27/03/2008 16:59

Happy Birthday Ollie! hope you all have a great day.
thanks for the formula tip alice - it's a bloody nightmare all this too-ing and fro-ing isn't it? the joys of parenting. Just not sure what to do - and not helped by seeing a thread here that was quite anti formula......gave formula to DS eventually though so not that bothered about that. we'll see.

hope everyone else is ok. the sun is out and i am eating a chocolate brownie in an attempt to resurrect what little energy I have (and block out the 'why the hell are you eating that?' voices in my head) don't you just love the endless guilt trip parenting is! right, better get tea sorted.

have a lovely evening everyone.

AnyasMum07 · 27/03/2008 18:48

Anya has just been rolling across the room trying to get to where I'm sitting - it's the first time she's 'travelled' - she usually just rolls then rolls back. Every time she got a bit closer she gave me a huge grin and jiggled about. Problem was she kept trying to crawl too, but just ended up swivelling round so she'd face the wrong way. Eventually she rolled over and got stuck with her head jammed against a wall and burst into tears. I had to laugh. (She did get lots of cuddles too!) Love her for trying though .

Muppet - Hope Oliver's having a wonderful birthday.

Mine/Alice - thanks - had a look at the links, will do a bit of investigation. I don't want to be doing anything until after Anya's scan anyway. Plus dh is a huge sceptic, even though he goes to a very good chiropracter, and he wasn't happy last night when I mentioned I'd even been researching it. I'll have to try and win him round .

J2O - try Trinny & Susannah's advice first and get a really really good bra, properly fitted. Lot cheaper and less risky than surgery. Have to agree with Alice, they looked fine to me....

Apricott - glad you're feeling better. at dh pg comment! A week sounds a bit long to be going without poo . Or maybe it's just Anya who squirts it out several times a day?

J20 - birth story feels a bit late now but never mind . Went a couple of days overdue but I thought her due date was a bit early so that was ok. Waters broke Friday morning when I woke up, so off to hospital. Not in labour so got sent home again. Thought I was having contractions Friday evening so went back in - false alarm and got sent home again. Back in Saturday morning for monitoring (didn't sleep at all Friday night - spent it on the sofa watching really rubbish tv!) - all fine, still no signs of labour, sent home again. Got home, collapsed into bed, woke an hour later (2:30) thinking 'ah, THIS is what contractions feel like!' Waited until teatime to go in but at least stayed in then! Labour was really, really, really slow - by 11:30 Sunday morning I was only just fully dilated. So I'd been in labour for 21 hours, had 1 hour's sleep in 2 days, only had a slice of toast since Friday night, which I'd then thrown up, was barely fully dilated, Anya was the wrong way round (back to back) so her head position wasn't going to help and I couldn't feel anything anyway from the epidural. So when they asked if I wanted to try pushing for what was going to be a long delivery I politely(ish) declined! Turned out to be a good move as she was 9lb7 and her head was very firmly wedged in my pelvis - hence the heaving and tugging during c-section. To top it all she then got an infection because my waters broke so early so we were in hospital for a week. And here's us women thinking this was supposed to be a natural beautiful process .

Sorry, that was really long!

muppetgirl · 27/03/2008 19:59

Ollie had a lovely birthday! He's so pleased to be four We have lost some of his presents though which is a bit strange, a jigsaw puzzle and some of the 'cars' from the film. I'm sure Ollie's found them and hidden them -he did this with my watch once adn dh tricked him into showing us where he'd put it by declaring a 'let's find mummy's watch competion'. He said there would be a cake for the winnmer and sure enough, Ollie found my watch in his bed

Henry carried on being very hungry as he had
6.30am -9oz
8.20am -9ozs
11.30am -9ozs
12pm -all of his lunch
3.30 - 8ozs
5pm -all of his tea
6pm 5ozs

I hope he doesn't wake early again tomorrow...I'm going to start him on breakfast tomorrow. Good to have a few practice runs before Ollie goes back to school as I'm sure it's going to be a nightmare getting them both 'breakfasted' in the mornings!

Well, we've made a decision over the 50th birthday party in Austria. I had a look at the timetable for Ollie's nursery and he has a morning in his reception class the thursday before we go then we would fly to Austria the next day, have the party the day after then fly back. He's always knackered at the end of term so we have decided that dh is going to go and Ollie, H and I will stay at home. I am ecstactic as you can imagine as I honestly didn't want to go -could you tell? I know it's selfish but it's too much for us at the mo. Not going to be popular with the MIL but then I was hardly ever the most liked DIL anyway!

Alice -glad your bathroom is nearly done!

Anyasmum- fab news on clever Anya, my fat lump is happy just to eat atm!

MrsFish · 27/03/2008 20:38

muppetgirl I can't believe H is eating so much, how much does he weigh now?

Ben is down to four feeds now and they are pretty structured time wise. For example today has been...

7.45 - 8oz and half a weetabix
11.45 - 6oz and fish pie
3.15 - 8oz and pear and creamed porridge
6.15 - 8oz.

He averages 30oz most days
