hello ladies. one hand typing hence no caps.

had a crap few days not had chance to catch up on here ben really not well, he has been throwing up since friday morning, he is not keeping anything down phoned nhs direct twice, seen an out of hours doc yesterday but he said nothing to be done about it unless gets really dehydrated... surely 4 days in and still going strong is not right though? i am sick of washing and cleaning up sick. His nappies are very dry but no other real signs of dehydration so he must be getting some liquids at least. He isn't happy though. Also Sam has been not himself today and dh was ill yesterday. I know they can't help being ill but I'm getting sick of it now Going to take him to see my doc tomorrow, even if she sends me away again at least I feel like I am trying to help. Ben crying again must go and sort him out...

ChocolateHobnob · 26/05/2008 18:56

Lisa, not got time to say much either but poor poor Ben and poor you! Am thinking of you- it isnt right for the poor little soul to be sick like that. Does he drink water as well as milk? Bless him; I hope your doc can help somehow.

Anyasmum, well done on the interview front!

Hi Inzi and Floria!

Trying to remember what you've all said.. Dal how are you this w/e? J20, how's your little wanderer? And everyone else...

Here DH collapsed in exhaustion on Sat after a day with my family (!); I co-slept with R all night and she was q good (I got a 2 hour stretch twice!!!) but last night back to normal.

Had odd day with my family though the other day as my SIL was unhappy about my feeding in public (ie in my parents living room). Noone else minded. She is pregnant herself and half-intending to bf, although she says she shudders at the thought and will do it for as short a time as possible. I suspect things may change once the baby arrives!

Food going okay - bit slow - R has been gumming melon and strawberries and loves them, plus Philly cheese on toast. Mush isnt very popular, other than Weetabix.

HV coming tomorrow for 6 week check. Bet she comes up with some stupid comments..

Hope you all had a good bank holiday - I avoided the Eurovision Anyasmum - it's just too silly now; too many Eastern European countries voting for each other. Anyway since we went to war in Iraq we're forever destined for nulle points!

muppetgirl · 26/05/2008 20:36

Hi all

J20 - how's Shannon's nappy rash? Sounds like a good idea to use the puppy pads but rooting her to the spot seems an even bigger problem. Can you use a playpen just while she has nappy rash?

Dal - How are you?

Crochet - that would be great to meet up. Would be happy to do either. We will come up on the sat and then stay over in a hotel (ollie will be so excited -that's if he makes it that far ) so could meet up sat or sun -YLLP - what can you make?

Inzi - Glad to hear Jane has settled again, it's not great going through the nightmares/terrors stage.

Anyasmum - brilliant news on all the interviews good luck!!!

LLL - So top hear of your crap few days. I would definately go back to the Drs and keep going back if you are at all worried that they aren't taking it seriously enough. It's tiring for you and very upsetting to see them sick so much...thinking of you and hoping lo gets better soon x

Floria - Henry LOVES swimming. We all went as a family for the 1st time today and we all had a great time. I played with ollie while dh had H and then we swapped. Ollie is jumping in by himself and doggy paddling back to the side. I am so [proud emoticon] of him.

Well, had the exercise session on Fri and Ollie had aother tantrum. I was so Darren the chappy tried desperately to get him out of the tantrum but he was having none of it. He fell off his scooter after 10 mins of being fab then it all went quickly downhill. It's almost like he's hormonal -anyone else had this with their 4 yr olds? I know they get a boost of testosterone but this is ridiculous, they come out of nowhere and he cannot seem to calm himself down.

Sat was good, Dh played tennis at 8am and we went up to the gym for breakfast as usual. Ollie was so well behaved you would think I was lying about the child with the horns the day before! Ollie had his tennis session and actually listened! I went out for dinner with a few of the mums from Ollie's school which was great. I had 5 G & T's and was almost trolleyd but not quite. Nearly back to my drinking days....

Rained today so we went swimming which was great we all really enjoyed it. H had a bottle afterwards and then slept whilst Dh Ollie and I had lunch and then watched the tennis. Went for dog walk with H in Ollie's old backpack and he loved that and then we had a carpet picnic as we promised Ollie we would go out and have a picnic but it rained.

Henry is still no nearer to rolling/sitting up but if you hold him sitting he tries to shuffle forward so I think he is gong to be a lazy tyke bum shuffler sometime soon.

I am going swimming with both boys tomorrow so wish me luck!
Take care all x

muppetgirl · 26/05/2008 20:39

Choc - about your sil re the breastfeeding in public. I get the feeling she thinks her child will only ever be hungry at convenient times when she is it home and not out an about? Either that or she's definitely showing everyone she's really not thought it through!

unicorn · 26/05/2008 20:44

Hello all,
Just checking in briefly as in middle of horrible row (200009) with my sister, and have been told by hub to go to computer.

(thread here if you have the time..
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1375/537373

Hope you are all well.
Sorry not to be around much.. will read up soon and try and frequent more often.
R is doing well though - big baby, just beginning to take an interest in crawling. Lovely babe though but worst sleeper of all of them- oh well can't have everything!

J2O · 26/05/2008 21:18

LLL-hope Ben gets better soon, poor you, you must be exhausted!

have just popped on really to say nappy rash nearly gone!! and i rescued the cage playpen from my mums yesterday, washed it in the bath today, so hopefully it will be in use tommorrow.

unicorn-i have read your thread not got chance to reply yet, but hugs to you, i myself am having problems with my so called family, well, the bit i've got left, am no longer going to my brothers wedding anymore, will explain later.

hi to everyone else xxxx

AnyasMum07 · 27/05/2008 17:12

LLL - how did you get on with your doc? Hope she was bit more sympathetic and that Ben's better soon.

Choc - glad you managed to get at least one night with a bit of sleep.

Muppet - glad you had a good weekend and enjoyed your (drunken) night out.

J2O - glad Jane is better.

Nothing much going on here. Feeling a bit guilty that not been able to take Anya to playgroups last week while I had interviews and there's only one this week because of half-term, so she's not had her usual social stuff, although dh has now volunteered to take her next week if I'm not around - bless him, can't really imagine him singing nursery rhymes with all other mums!

AnyasMum07 · 27/05/2008 17:13

Sorry J2O - meant Shannon of course!

LisaLessLumpy · 27/05/2008 21:30

I took Ben to see the doc today, I wasn't going to as he kept last nights bottle down and also his breakfast, but at 11am he threw up loads again so thought it better to get checked out. the doc said he thinks he has got gastroenteritis which can last up to 8 days. This was the 5th day so hopefully the vomitting will stop soon. Nothing to be done other than keep getting the fluids down him. He had one other vomit this evening but I'm getting good now, I have caught both lots in the duplo bucket I was even sadder.. I then poured it back into the bottle just to see how much he was throwing up But hopefully there is now light at the end of the tunnel. There better be, dh and I are due to go to London for the weekend on friday morning

Dalrymps · 27/05/2008 22:26

LLL - glad Ben seems to have turned a bit of a corner and the doc could at least tell you what the problem was. Hope he gets better soon.
J20 - Glad the nappy rash is nearly better
Muppet hope swimming went ok, we'll have tp take Dylan soon, he hasn't een yet and i'm sure he'd love it!
Choc - hope the check with the HV went ok and she didn't make any stupid comments
Inzi - sorr to hear about your mum and dads dog, I was surprised by just how upset I was when my mum and dads dog died, was the dog I grew up with too
Floria - hope you're doing ok
Well, Dylan has been doing well with his food recently, is eating 3 meals a day, well, I say meals, they're not massive amounts but good amounts for him, he's still drinking about 22 oz of milk too which is also good for him. He drank 24oz today which was a miracle! So we are happy with that. Got his dreded weigh in tomorrow but sil is coming with me for moral support. Not much more the hv can say anyway as we're just waiting for the appointment from the paediatrician so she can hardly refer us again!
Been feeling better, especially over the weekend, had a realy nice time and felt realy happy, even managed a few 'rolls in the hay' with dh so I must be feeling better. Still gonna have a chat with the doc but might have to change the app I have tomorrow as I forgot it was Dylan's weigh in and I might not be able to get there in time. I will definately rearrange it thugh so don't worry ladies!
I think another reason I had a nice weekend was that dh did all Dylans nappy changes and feeds over the weekend to give me a rest, was soooo nice and he actually realy enjoyed it too, said he felt a lot closer to Dylan and felt he had bonded with him more and wasn't even getting stressed feeding him, so good news all round.
Going to go watch a program about the worlds fattest pets now .
Sorry if i've forgotten anyone, hello to anyone I haven't mentioned.
Chat soon

FloriaTosca · 27/05/2008 23:23

Just a quick hello...v.v. tired as Alex is waking a silly hours during the night.
Dal ..soo, soo glad you had a good weekend.Though still think you should rearrange weigh in rather than docs appt
We had 8 month check today..Alex is Mr Average in weight, height and head circumference (50% line for everything) and of course doing well with development, HV thinks he'll be running walking within the month[not sure whether to be happy or worried emoticon].I'll be back tomorrow ... computer and Alex willing

strawberrylace · 28/05/2008 08:32

Hello everyone!
Hope you are all ok
LLL - hope Ben is better soon, that sounds like a nightmare
J20 - glad nappy rash is getting sorted - my sis swears by cornflower (as in the cooking stuff) used like talc for nappy rash - wierd, but its worked for her LOs
Muppet - Olly loves swimming too, I am gonna sign up for some baby swimming lessons next week
Anyasmum - its annoying when things stop for half term isn't it? But it gives me a chance to catch up with a mum friend who's a teacher, so its not all bad
Dal - glad you had a lovely weekend and are feeling more positive
Floria - You must be v pleased with Alex's check - our 8 month checks have stopped and we get checks between 9-11 months now

Well, the weekend of family visiting was nice - DS loved playing with his cousin who's two months older than him. The house still looks clean and tidy as well. DS has at last started crawling forward - slowly, but at least he's not just going backwards. Off to see my godmother today for coffee, and then a day out with DS and DH tomorrow

Hello to anyone i've missed and hope you all have a good day

FloriaTosca · 28/05/2008 09:24

Morning All!
Think I've caught up now...
LLL; so sorry to hear how poorly Ben and all the family are Good on you for insisting on seeing the doc even if there wasnt much he could do. My doc reccommends flat 7Up for rehydrating if you need to, though I think dioralyte is suitable for babies too. I do hope Ben is better soon and that you and your dh can get away at weekend.
DAL;I hope all goes well today.
J20;We have had the prisonplaypen up for 2 weeks now..such a relief not to have to worry about Alex trying to use the dogs fur to stand up...I'm really glad that Shannons bt is getting better, I've been having visions of her sat in a playpen full of puppy pads, metanium and cornflower..glad you have been spared that!!.
Strawberry; the crawling..Alex wont even attempt it he just wants to walk up and down the length of our house..its a bloody fairly long way, bent double holding his hands

Well my little darling has had me up since 6am route marching me round the house and is now asleep in my arms as I type..why, oh why does my heart just melt as I look down at him, when he has been a tyrant all night?

FloriaTosca · 28/05/2008 09:36

OOps forgot to say;
muppet hope you manage swimming with both boys on your own ok...
and
mine how are the coldsores? Hope you found a cure and they wont look so bad for the wedding on Saturday.

FloriaTosca · 28/05/2008 10:16

and
unicorn; sorry I wasnt around to talk on Mon when you needed support...I understand your need for extended family...I grew up with a massive extended family on my fathers side and almost none on my mothers side though she actually had more blood relatives, because she didnt think they were worth the effort/arguments..in time (my grandmother didnt see me until I was 10 months old and my grandfather until I was 2!..though they lived just 1 mile away and had to pass our house to go to their weekly hospital appointments)they learned that if they wanted contact it had to be on my Mums terms, no arguments, no accusations, no raking over the coals of old grudges...if they so much as hinted at something they weren't even asked to leave, Mum would pick me up and go to a neighbours until they had seen themselves out...she never had a great relationship with them, but I did..and in the very long term her siblings eventually came round to see her point of view too because she handled the situation with dignity, was civil, but tenaciously stuck to her guns. Your situation is probably very different but if you really want your sister to have contact with your children it has to be on your terms..so if she cant see your point of view and cant even maintain neutrality then she needs to stay silent on the subject if she wants to see your children. I hope things are better for you today.

FloriaTosca · 28/05/2008 10:23

Inzi we have "mam, mam" "mamee" but only when crying ...and "ba,ba,ba"...trying for DaDa to make Dh feel included. oh and shouting/screaming/singing at 6am to get me to pick him up. I hope you havve a fab day wiht the g-ps and your mum...weather is rubbish here too but the dog needs a walk and Alex is now wide awake again so no putting it off any longer
...have a good day everyone.

Dalrymps · 28/05/2008 11:09

Morning everyone, what a poor day, weatherwise that is. It's all grey and rainy here, not too bothered though. Is fil's birthday today so will be down to theirs later for the celebrations .

Floria - you know, I hadn't even thought of rearranging the weigh in, guess thats just cause i'm obsessed with finding out how much he's gained, has taken me all my strength to stretch them to every 2 weeks rather than every week so i'm afraid i'll just have to go! Will rearrange the doc for sure though. I can't believe Alex is walking around your house whilst you hold his hands, thats amazing, your back must be bearing the brunt though... I'm looking forward to Dylan standing/walking but am dreading all the running about after him. Will have to sort the house out a lot before then, far too many things for him to grab at the moment!

Inzi - no crawling here, only just started rolling in last few weeks. He is babbling a lot though, can say 'da da da', 'hey', 'hiya', 'wawawa', and has even attempted mama twice but I won't be convinced until he says it a few more times, might have just been a fluke otherwise. Oh, and he also makes a noise a bit like a wood pigeon, usually to get attention or when he's enjoying his food, he goes mmmmm mmmmmmmmm mmmmm mmmmmmmmm

Strawberry - glad you had a nice time with family Wow, crawling, they're all growing up so fast! Dylan lies on his front and rest on his arm and wiggles his legs a bit but doesn't go anywhere yet, sure it won't be long though, he's so active and strong. Mil says i'll realy have my hands full once he gets going!

Anyasmum - hope the interviews are going well. Don't feel bad about not making it to play group, I haven't been to one for ages cause they're all at stupid times of day here when Dylan is usually napping or feeding. He does most of his socialising with his 18mo cousin at the moment.

LLL - hope Ben is feeling better today and that you are coping ok with the endless cleaning up of sick.

Well i've got to go get ready whilst he's asleep so hi to anyone I haven't mentioned and i'll be back soon

LisaLessLumpy · 28/05/2008 11:27

Well Ben hasn't thrown up yet hurrah!! Oh and he was so cute this morning, waved byebye to dh, it has taken me a week of constantly saying it to him grinning insanely and doing the motions lol! I'm going to get him weighed tomorrow he feels like he has lost a significant amount of weight. At least he had plenty to start with

AnyasMum07 · 28/05/2008 12:56

LLL - glad you know what's wrong with Ben and that he's getting better. [yukemoticon] at measuring his sick!

Dal - so glad you've had a better weekend, and Dylan seems to be eating good amounts. Hope all goes well today at weigh-in but try not to get stressed.

FT - poor you with Alex waking up. Anya seems to have settled a bit and had a couple of nights sleeping through - maybe Alex will be the same once he's had his growth spurt or whatever. And wow at Alex nearly walking! I'm not sure whether we get 8 month checks or not - nobody's mentioned anything. Must check with hv.

Strawberry - glad you had a good weekend. Well done to ds for crawling.

Inzi - no proper words yet that I can make out, but lots of rubbish, she talks and sings to everything all the time, and does really loud sighs!

Went to playgroup this morning - feel better now! Anya's getting very sociable with other babies but she plays very aggressively - tries to poke them in the eye and pull their hair, that sort of thing. That was until one of the others headbutted her this morning! Eventually they settled down and stroked each other's faces - so cute.

FloriaTosca · 28/05/2008 14:02

Just a quick pop back to share a laugh
HV did the "how tall should your son be" section in Alexs red book. Basically take Mums & Dads height in cm, add together and divide by 2 then add 7 cm, this gives the "mid-parent corrected height" in Alexs case 174.5cm which is spot on the 75th centile which is the curve he should follow from 2 yrs however target growth could still lie within adjacent centile curves which are plus or minus 10cm! In other words they predict that he'll be about 6ft tall..well anywhere between 5ft8in and 6ft4in!!!! How accurate is that? Crikey Mystic Meg could do better than that!

alicet · 28/05/2008 21:02

Hello lovely ladies - sorry I've not been about more. RL getting in the way really. We had a lovely weekend - I went out with one of my good friends for lunch on Sat with NO CHILDREN which was fab. Dh and I were out for dinner on Sat and we spent Mon at a friend's house who has a daughter Sam's age and son about 3 months younger than Adam. Other than that we were out and about loads with the boys so not much time to check in here... Then yesterday I was bed bound with an awful cold so didn't go to work. I think that I haven't really had a chance to rest much recently with running round after them both and so it probably hit me harder than it otherwise might have. Better today though - still sneezy and coughing like I smoke about 60 a day but at least not feeling crap.

When the babysitter arrived on Sat night Sam was in the bath - we had asked her to come in time to read him his stories so he knew what was going on if he woke while we were out. She is one of the girls at nursery so he does know her. Anyway, she came into the bathroom and he stood up, grabbed his tackle, and said 'I've got my willy! Daddy got one too!' Very very funny!!! He is obsessed at the mo - keeps saying 'Adam got one too, Daddy got one too, Mummy got one too' to which I try and explain that mummy hasn't got one because mummy is a girl. Not decided yet what we're going to call girlie bits yet though - any ideas?

Have managed to skim read through the rest of the thread.... SOunds like some of you have been having rough times (Lisa, Choc, Floria spring to mind...) but I get the impression most things have managed to settle down in my absence? Hope so xxxxxxx

Anyasmum good luck with interviews this week, Lisa hope Ben continues to settle, and Dal fingers crossed for Dylan's weigh in...

Big hugs to all the reast of you and I'll try and catch up more frequently! Miss you! xxxx

Oh and Floria given that I am 5ft and dh is 6ft4 I'm sure you can guess exactly how bloody pointless the height calculator is for us!!!!

Hi all - sorry to have been absent - we've had an interesting weekend and week - A&E twice () with Rhydian - all fine now ... and we've been running about like mad things all week - oh, and dh is away all week, so by the time I get both of the monsters darlings to bed, I'm just about done for!

I've really enjoyed Rhydian's company today - we went to SW this morning - I've lost another lb - now 23 1/2lb gone! then we went round to see a friend who has a son in R's class, and a baby daughter born 10 weeks after M, then we went to the museum in Cardiff to look at the dinosaurs (went round the bloody exhibit about 15 times - oh, the joy of little boys!), then we went to ikea so that R could go to the creche, and I could get another storage rack that M can't unpack, then we had tea in ikea (fab, no washing up!), and I've only just come down from putting R to bed. He has been an absolute joy!

We're off to a farm park tomorrow with some of the people I met in an classes when pg with R ... hope it doesn't rain quite so much as it has the last few days!

alice - I remember the fascination with the willy vividly ... it lasts forever! Now, if I question R as to why he's messing with his bits, he grins at me and says "I'm just checking it's still there, Mammy" ... I just call girls' bits "girls' bits", or "foo" ...

Dal - really glad to hear you sounding more upbeat - do make sure you go and see the doc though - if you're anything like I was, you'll dip in and out of it - I still have days when I can't answer the door / the phone ... and thankfully, those days are less now I'm on the ADs.

unicorn - so sorry to hear you're going through the mill - am thinking about you.

FT - the height predictor made me laugh too - it's hardly exact!

muppetgirl - would love to see you - am being very dippy, can't remember which day you said would be best ... either's fine - just can't do the Sunday morning. Oh, and if you're booking hotels, avoid any on St. Mary Street / High Street - it's pub and nightclub central, and is just a tad lively on a Saturday night! You might be better off getting a B&B in Penarth or something like that - it's only a 10-minute drive from Cardiff City Centre.

j20 - hope shannon's bum is better.

LLL - hope that Ben has turned the corner now ...

Choc - seriously, I do think you are superwoman!

anyasmum - The los can be so rough - Mairwen pokes and grabs other babies - she was trying to eat my friend's baby's dress this morning, so she pulled her towards her by the feet!

Ooooh, on the movement front, Mairwen isn't crawling, but she has started bum-shuffling ... and she pulls herself up on absolutely anything - the cat (poor thing), the chair - it's very funny to watch.

As for the sounds, her favourite at the moment is "ach" - sounds like a scouser! She also likes clicking her tongue, and generally shouting if she can't reach something she wants / is told "no" / wants food / etc etc - she is very vocal!

Right, am off to bed - love to all ... oh,and if I disappear, it's because we're going to France for 2 weeks () - am sooooooo looking forward to it - love to all!
