Hello everyone!
I?m never gonna remember what everyone?s said ? sorry ? I have been out making the most of the sun and not online for a while!
Floria ? glad you had a fab time on your hols
Inzi ? welcome back, but sorry Jane is not sleeping
Dal ? hope you are enjoying the new car
Alicet ? Happy birthday!
LLL ? wow, running the race for life in 40 mins ? would take me 40 days I think!!!
Benandsamsmummy ? hello ? my DS refuses purees but loves finger foods too
Anyasmum ? DS also sounds like a tiger ? lots of growling, mainly in frustration at still not being able to crawl forwards
Anyone I?ve missed ? hope you are well!
Well, we have been out and about in the sun, visiting various friends and relations and having BBQs. Have been searching high and low for a parasol to fit on my buggy, but seeing as I?ve bought one that?s got an oval frame, nothing seems to fit. It?s a ToysRUs own brand, and they don?t make one the right shape ? how silly is that!
Tomorrow I?m meeting my mum friends in the park, which I?m looking forward to a lot?

FloriaTosca · 11/05/2008 22:37

Hi All. It is Mothers Day in South africa and a lot of other places today...so Happy Mothers day All!

Alice; Happy belated birthday.Hope it was a good one.
Inzi; So frustrating for you having had such good sleep from Jane..and to lose the use of Amby so soon..how on earth she managed to turn over in it I cant comprehend she must be incredibly strong!
Dal; new car. I want one!
LLL; Well done on doing the race especially so fast....Sorry Ben is still poorly, it sounds dreadful poor mite. Hope the doc can sort him soon.
Ben&Samsmum; Welcome. Good to see a new face (as it were). My Alex prefers finger foods too....I think he finds purees boring!
Anyasmum; Clever Anya sorting your cdsand looking forward to hearing Alex and Anya growling in unison at some point soon.
Strawberry; Did you see the shade that Alice recommended a page or so back..would that fit? Have a lovely Mums meet up tomorrow...I hope the weather stays this wonderful for you.

Forgot to say that the best thing about the holiday was seeing Dh truly bonding with Alex at last...he even asked how I cope day after day after a whole afternoon of keeping Alex entertained ...though he still can't see why I would like to do it all again...but it is wonderful to see the two of them interracting and Alex watches his Dad like a hawk (especially at the dinner table) and Dh has voluntarily taken Alex for an hour each morning this weekend to give me a bit of a lie in (Alex seems to be having a growth spurt and is waking me for feeding at 1am, 4am and 6 am night again ) The only down side to holiday (apart from the dog apparently feeling that 2 weeks in kennels wipes all obedience training from his mind)is the utter Everest of washing and ironing that it has generated....if I'm not around for a while someone send a rescue party to dig me out of the avalanche!

JUST CHECKING IN COS I LOST YOU, WILL TRY TO GET ON PROPERLY LATER.

I THINK MUPPET MAY HAVE FALLEN FOUL TO FB LIKE MOI!

oh bugger, sorry for ther caps, hope you're all ok :-)

Lisa-well done for doing the race

alicet · 12/05/2008 13:10

Lisa well done on the race for life! And hope the doc can get to the bottom of whats going on with Ben...

Floria hope you're OK and not swamped in washing! My dh took a while to really bond with Sam and the same again this time. I think he struggled a lot with the sleep deprivation when they were both tiny and because he didn't get the quality time with them that I did it felt a bit more of a chore. Now Adam is a smily happy little boy it's lovely to see their bond grow.

Strawbeery check out the protectabub sunshade - bloody marvellous and fits on anything including car seats - stick it into google and it will come up with a load of websites where you can buy it. Only reason I'm not getting a double one is that I think Sam would lose his rag in it - he even hates the hood going up - so I'm looking for a parasol to put on Adam's side and then slathering them both in suncream.

Well I've got to head now and do some work for my annual appraisal which is next week. Started to look at it at the weekend only to discover that the whole process has completely changed to one where I have to send loads of evidence online to show what I've been up to - 10 days before! Oops - missed that then so need to get it sorted today. Might be a bit sporadic until it's sorted but I am thinking of you all!

ChocolateHobnob · 12/05/2008 14:06

Hi all,

Where IS Muppet?? Come back sweetie, we miss you!

LLL, I hope the doc can prescribe/suggest something. Poor little Ben!

Alicet, poor you with the appraisal - good luck!

Floria, the holiday sounds fab.

Dal, how's Dylan's weight doing? is HV being any more helpful and positive?

No real news from here other than we've started weaning, and DD isn't mad keen on the food she's had so far, and in fact has barely touched it, but it's a start. The weather has been amazing!
Oh dear she needs me, got to dash - hugs all!

yourlonglostpal · 12/05/2008 15:02

hiya all

welcome benandsamsmum

welcome home floria - soooo jealous of your holiday!

congrats lisa on the race for life

inzi at the amby experience!

good luck alice with the appraisal. I'm back at work in July. My boss finally got back to me ... i tensely opened the e-mail ... he's looked into it and i have a right to request a change in conditions, so if i want to i should write to him formally ... [thanks for nothing emoticon]! He's kept me waiting weeks for that. not the slightest hint of his likely response to my 'formal' request.

loving the stories of growling snarling babies!!!

here, i don't think huw likes the hot weather. he's been crying and not sleeping and generally not quite his usual happy self.
i've finally found a way to get him to drink a bit of water - give it to him from a grown up glass - makes him feel all important . we've just been for a lovely walk with some baby friends. not sure what we're doing with the rest of the day.

take care all

muppetgirl · 12/05/2008 18:21

Hi all!!!

Sorry I have been awol of late. The Christening was lovely and H looked fab and he was impeccably behaved in church as was Oliver. The inlaws, however, were a different matter...they left the sevice as soon as they could, even before we'd got out the door and headed back to our house 'to get a parking space' as SIL told us. We have no photos of any of them being in the church at all GRRRRRRRRRRR. When we got back DH's family were upstairs in the living room whilst our friends and my family were downstairs. Dh's family did not mix at all and at one point MIL came downstairs and made her and FIL hot drinks whilst my dad and a family firend, DH and me were sat at the table, she didn't say a word or offer to make anyone else a drink. Dh and I went out on the sun and Il's babysat, she asked what they could have to eat so I got something I had made out of the freezer to which she said (in your best 'oh woe is me' voice please...) oh don't worry I'll make FIL some boiled eggs. They couldn't get out of bed the day of the Christening yet on the Mon when it was time to go home they were up and out at 8.30am. I cannot stand them {angry} and {angry} and more

It is quite obvious they favour Ollie as he was bought loads of clothes and H was only bought a money box (not normally they type that compares but Ollie got 2 money boxes, a cup, plate, egg cup and a 2 handled baby cup for his christening -do you see what I mean now??? Oh, and money to put in the money box...)

Deep breaths, deep breaths....

The my auntie cornered me and started telling me how my mother was an awful mum and how she is sooo sorry that she left me alone when my mother left and isn't 14 an awful age to be without your mother? Etc etc. I am definately her therapy as this is the second time she's done this. Her guilt is amazing and I think, only slightly stronger than her hate for my mother I found it very hard that Dh's family were being arses yet they have 2 gorgeous grandsons and a wonderful son and make no effort to come and visit. I find his family just as confusing as my own in different ways and that's why I needed a bit of space to have a good old think.

I am now dealing with Oliver the runny tummy boy as he's been on the toilet for most of the afternoon after we got back from a friends.

Henry is still wonderful and we've just been leant a bumbo from a friend and it's fab!! My lazy baby can now ''sit'' upright and I'm hoping this will make him think how interesting the world is from this new angle that he might try it himself

I haven't read any posts for ages as was in deep thought so love to you all (thanks mine for giving me a nudge x)

Speak soon
xxxx

muppetgirl · 12/05/2008 18:53

Chocolate ?well done Rebecca on sitting up!!! Henry is still so lazy he hasn?t even started to roll over yet..

Alice ?Glad going back to work went well, I know what you mean about feeling like a student, I couldn?t imagine being in front of a class now yet I was known as being pretty formidable by the kids and parents! Glad the boys were okay as that?s half the worry isn?t it? Re the sunshade, we saw a lady at our friends daughters christening and she used this to get her lo to sleep in the pushchair. She says it?s a godsend as he?s used to blackout blinds at home. Not sure how H would like it as he looked terrified and then screamed the place down when we went on a walk with just a normal sunshade. It was so unlike him I haven?t used it since Happy belated birthday!!!

J20 ? hope Shannon (and the hamster ) is okay after her fall. Ollie did something similar in an antique highchair we?d borrowed at a friend?s house. Scared the shit out of me so I know how you feel. Have a great time on the hen night am very

Inzi ?Hello!!!! Jane has her bottom teeth!! Don?t they look sooo cute with teeth?? You just have to watch them when the go in for the full mouthed bite now as it?s murder to get them to let go! With you on the bumbo seat only got it yesterday but I wish I?d got it earlier? H is 20lbs and it says to 22lbs but I?m going to keep using it until he shows signs of being able to sit up himself.

Lisalesslumpy ? Ben?s sitting up too! He?s such a big boy!! HENRY ARE YOU LISTENING TO THIS?????? I?ve even looked through the photos as Dh thinks I?m miss remembering how forward Ollie was. He could virtually crawl at 8 months and I have it on video to prove to dh!!!

Dal ?how?s it all going with Dylan?? Good news on the family car x

Yourlonglostpal ? I hope Huw is getting better (plus all those with snotty babies)

Floria ? Your trip sounds wonderful and and well done Alex for cruising!!!

J2O · 12/05/2008 19:33

hi guys i'm back for 2 mins. had a great time in Spain, even though it rained all weekend, came back to my house being a tip and both the kids poorly, i nearly cried when i saw the state of Shannon, her bum is red raw with nappy rash and her eyes where bright red, i think its hay fever, i am trying very hard to put the nappy rash down to teething and not my mum not changing her often enough, no teeth here yet but she is crawling, well, more like an army crawl-think i'm going to have to invest in a cage

Happy belated birthday Alice ;)

muppet-glad you're back and the christening went ok boo to the ils, at least they've gone now...till the next time.

FT-glad you had a good hol and dh bonding with lo

welcome to the newbie

umm thats as far as my memory will stretch! oh Lisa hope lo feels better by now.

got to go wake my little darling and get her ready for bed, i am so tired from non-stop drinking all weekend, early night i think.

will read through again when i get chance

waves to everyone i've missed xxx

Dalrymps · 12/05/2008 21:15

Hey everyone, just a quicky before I have a glass of wine...
Dylan rolled over today from back to front! Well, he did it on saturday too but it was so quick I wasn't sure it was intentional and hge rolled back very quickly before anyone else saw it. Todat he rolled over and got his arm free and stayed there then tried to move around but just kept going backwards
Due to have my review and get him weighed with the hv on wed, have been trying to get a docs appointment but the system is so stupid and the only ones I could get were not ones dh could make, anyway now were so close to seeing the hv again i'm gonna see what she says then book an appointment with the docs. Mil has offered to come with me when he gets weighed in case the hv starts saying ridiculous worrying over the top things which stress me out so thats nice of her . I have kept a food diary for the last 5 days as instructed and he's averaging 22-24 oz a day plus breakfast and dinner at the moment, does this sound ok? it's good for him anyway, thought the milk would drop dramatically once he was weaning. He seems to have got his interest in food back at the mo so thats good. He even ate a finger shaped rich tea biscuit at mils today, sucked it to death then chewed it with his little gums, very cute to watch .
Muppet, glad to see you back, sorry the christening was a bit of a stress but hope you had a nice day overall and enjoyed it in your own way for what you wanted to get out of it iyswim.
Here's hoping Henry thinks his bumbo is fun and tries to sit without it, although Dylan still folds up like a deckchair , tried him in a bumbo about 3 weeks ago and he sat for a minute then slouched to the side...
Well off to spend some time with dh, hello to everyone I haven't mentioned.
Catch ya soon

alicet · 12/05/2008 21:37

Just a quickie...

Muppet Adam can't be arsed with sitting either! I think he'll crawl first - gets really frustrated on his front cleary wanting to move! But just lurches to the side when I try to sit him up! Bumbo is a godsend here too although his baby walker is even better - he stands up virtually unsupported in that and is really really excited to move!

YLLP at your hopeless boss - here's hoping the formal request works better than the informal one - which presumably will only be different in that it is on paper not email! What a crock of shit!

J20 sorry you're feeling rough after your weekend. I stayed up drinking with a mate until 3.30 on Sun am - not done anything even CLOSE to that since well before Sam was born! Felt rough on Sunday but not half as bad as I deserved to!!!

Anyway think I have done everything for the appraisal and also for a study leave application I needed to sort out - I'm off to Surrey next Sunday for a course on the Monday. Anyway - off to chill now and will be back tomorrow.

Hello to all else!!!

OP posts:
AnyasMum07 · 13/05/2008 12:15

FT - hope Alex settles down again and gets back to having proper nights' sleep. Good luck with the washing/ironing, not to mention retraining the dog!

Choc - bet it doesn't take long for Rebecca to decide she likes food after all - it's probably just a bit new at the moment.

YLLP - how annoying from your boss.

Muppet - yummy doughnuts, thanks! You have a truly awful mil (if you don't mind me saying) and I'm not surprised you're annoyed. At least H won't want for anything with such loving parents though so if his grandparents want to be weird that's their loss. Can't believe your aunt unloaded on you at the christening too - how inappropriate! Hope Oliver's tummy is better.

J2O - well done Shannon at crawling. Glad you had a good time in Spain.

All these babies sitting up! Anya has completely lost the ability to balance, even though she could do a few seconds at a time last week. As soon as she gets near the floor she reaches out to be on her tummy so she's got no interest in sitting still at all - she deliberately falls over as soon as I try. Took her to a nursery rhyme class this morning - she's supposed to sit on my knee and be sung to but she was off rolling round the room!

Have made some progress on the work front - phoned round a few agencies yesterday and I've got an interview in a couple of weeks for a part-time position where I can work from home, so pretty much what I'm trying to do now but with a proper salary. Woohoo!

Hello to everybody not mentioned. Must go and get lunch for lo.

x

muppetgirl · 13/05/2008 15:45

Anyasmum - that sounds fab about the interview especially the working from home and getting a salary bit!

Alice -hope the study leave application goes well x

Well, went to the garden centre this morning with the boys. We had lunch there and H had a bottle. I have bought some plants for the raised beds we have as we didn't fill one last year due to the wood chip/dog loo disaster. Getting rid of that and having decking as we can jet wash that should the need arise.

Ollie still has a runny bum but it's only been once today. Don't think he'll be in tomorrow as he's still lose. Thurs sees us all going to the circus so that's quite exciting!

Hope all are well
x

alicet · 13/05/2008 18:33

Anyasmum nice news on the job interview! Good luck!

Muppet forgot to sympahise re pil's - what nightmare people! Easier said than done I'm saure but I would be tempted to just rise about it and NEVER invite them to stay again! How bloody rude!

Anyway I had a much better day at work today and managed to get all the stuff done with the study leave application and appraisal that I needed to sort. Also can really feel my confidence coming back which can only be a good thing...

Probably won't be on later as dh and I really in need of some quality time as we've both been sniping at each other a bit recently - I think he is tired and I have been stressed with work which isn't a good combination! Might be about tomorrow....

Hope the rest of you are well xxx

OP posts:
Mine · 13/05/2008 20:55

muppet..... your IL sounds LOVLEY!!!
how helpful of them to make themselves at home just when you need a hand with everything!!
Maybe you should do the same when you visit them.... ignore the host and other guests, turn your nose up at their food and just be a all round bitch.
She;ll feel right at home!

Anyasmum - new job opp sounds promising. you seems really positive about it.

We've been pretty busy around here as dh had a long weekend off, but he's back to work now

Is anyone else finding weaning a bit of a mine field at the mo...??
Eren took to food really well at first but now he is just not interested in ANYTHING..... purees, milk. Finger food works but he doesn't actually consume any of it, just sucks it until it goes to mush. He;ll go 6-9 hours without wanting to eat/drink anything. I'm worried......i'm sure this too will change.

crochetdiva · 13/05/2008 21:12

Hi all - have been a bit awol - Mairwen is boycotting daytime sleep at the moment - but, as she's being quite good in the evenings now, I'm not complaining!

alice - happy birthday, and glad work is going well!

muppetgirl - your ILs make me too - and I've never met them! Glad the Christening went well though - we will have to try to reschedule!

mine - sorry to hear eren is being difficult with food!

dal - a little rhyme for you (and for anybody else for whom the whole solids things is getting them down:

"Until your baby has reached one,
Eating food is just for fun!"

Solids are supposed to be complimentary to their milk feeds at the moment - there are very few foods that are equivalent in calorific value to bm / fm!

j20 - glad to hear you had a good time in Spain - as for nappy rash, I've found both metanium and better botty balm really good in the past - thankfully the nappy rash witch hasn't reached us yet this time around!

anyasmum - have you got a bumbo seat? I'm not using mine, if you'd like to borrow it! I intend selling it eventually, but will happily lend it to you for now.

yllp - at your boss ... what a helpful person (not!)

well, the Thomas household are all fine - Mairwen has started pulling herself up to standing - no sign of her crawling, though she does quite a mean commando wriggle across the floor! We've had to put the cot down to the lowest level as I popped out to wash my hands on Sunday, came back, to find her leaning over the edge of the cot trying to grab the monitor! Methinks I may have another early walker ... Rhydian walked at 9 3/4 months, so there is a precedent!

She's eating whatever we eat now - she shouts for babybel cheese, and treats strawberries as a whole body experience ... I'll have to update my profile. No teeth yet though ...

Right, am going to do my Welsh homework ... will try not to be such an infrequent visitor!

love to everybody I haven't mentioned - and welcome to Benandsams mummy (or is it sam and bens mummy - am confused!) I have 2 children as well, Rhydian, who's 5 1/2, and Mairwen, who was born on 1st October.

ChocolateHobnob · 14/05/2008 08:22

Hello!

Muppet - your inlaws make me as speechless as everyone else. I hope you're managing to get past the impact of their visit. Echo others who say you shouldnt have them to stay again. And showing favourites is horrible.

Crochetdiva, hello! Glad Mairwen is eating and sleeping well. And nearly standing alone - wow!

Alice, cant believe you stayed up half the night voluntarily (!) and hope you and DH had a good evening in the end yesterday.

J20, Spain sounds fun.

Dal/anyone else with children not eating, Rebecca isn't keen either, in fact she arches her back and turns away at the sight of a spoon so... we're blw here. She rejected everything except pitta bread yesterday and sucked happily on that. Food for fun until they're one sounds like a good mantra to me. Except that she is getting to be a milk monster, so I'm starting to see why people find bf tiring...

Anyasmum, good news about the work and PMSL at thought of Anya rolling off round the room...

Welcome SamandBensmum (or other way round!) -I have one daughter, a sleep resister of 6 months old.

YLLP, your boss sounds horrid. can you get a job anywhere else??

LLL, any news on Ben?
Trying to remember what else people have said...

Rebecca refuses to lie down anymore (so she'll never crawl!!) and just sits all the time. She loves it and it makes my life easier: I surround her with toys and she swaps between them happily. She sits up in her highchair v well too. No sign of teeth/crawling and still rejecting cups (never has taken to bottles).

Anyway have a good day everyone!

LisaLessLumpy · 14/05/2008 09:46

Hello everyone.

Muppet - good to see you back, what horrible in-laws though makes me appreciate mine even more.

Choc - Took Ben to see the docs yesterday, there is nothing she can do he threw up again this morning after breakfast, mind you it probably didn't help the amount he ate, 7oz milk and one whole weetabix He has started to up his milk again though which is good, he is back up to 20oz's a day. Guess I will just have to hope his cough gets better soon. His skin is still good though which if great

alice - glad you are getting back into the work ethic

AnyasMum07 · 14/05/2008 14:56

Muppet - enjoy the circus tomorrow, bet Ollie will love that.

Alice - glad work is going well. Hope you and dh had a nice evening.

Mine - Anya did that too with finger food. Went off purees a bit, which is what made me change, think she got bored and wanted to feed herself. First few days I don't think she swallowed anything, now she eats quite a bit, especially toast and banana, but she's very enthusiastic about stuffing anything in her mouth. You'll probably find that Eren is swallowing more than you think.

Crochet - no, haven't got a bumbo. But Anya's sitting very well in her highchair so I'm just going to wait until she's ready to sit up on her own. I think she'd get cross in a bumbo, not able to go exploring . Thanks for the offer anyway.

LLL - glad Ben's skin is better, am sure his cough will clear soon on its own.

Bought one of those sunshade things from Argos today - like a shade-a-babe - not sure it fits very well on our mothercare buggy, it seems to come down an awful long way at the front even without the front drape thing. Not sure how happy she'll be either - it looks really dark in there! Will try her out in it later.

Hello to everybody else
x

Stefka · 14/05/2008 16:50

I am sad that I keep falling behind with everyone here. I am struggling with a dose of anxiety at the moment. It's really frustrating and horrible. I just feel this awful knot in my tummy

Other than that things are well. Dareh is rolling like a mad man and enjoying most of his food - well his puddings anyway!

Who here is still BFing? How are you managing the balance between BF and solids? It's sort of stressing me out a bit! At the moment he is getting milk in the night and always has a feed around fiveish so at seven he doesn't want milk and we go straight to breakfast. Then he has a BF midmorning, lunch around 12ish, a BF in the afternoon, tea about half four (he's asleep today for some reason!) and then BF before bed. Every day is a little different because he naps for different lengths of time.

Hope everyone is well.

Stefka - thinking of you, lovely! I'm struggling my way out of the pit of pnd - I know what you mean about the knot of anxiety ... it sucks!

I'm still bf - I tend to feed as and when she wants still, but I make sure I feed her before and after any solids ... the leader at the lll group I go to calls it a breastmilk sandwich!

I usually feed her somewhere around the following times (though it's hugely variable!):

6am - dh does breakfast with her, and gives her some ebm - 9.30am - 11.30am (before and after lunch) - 3pm - feed before tea at about 5.30pm - then a bedtme feed at around 6.30 - 7.30pm. I still do a dreamfeed if I'm not too tired at around 10pm, then she usually wakes for another feed around 3am.

Have to say that writing it down has made me sopmewhat exhausted looking at it!

Well, I've lost another 1lb this weeks - now up to 22 1/2 lbs ... woo hoo!

News on madam - she pulled a kitchen chair over to herself this morning, whilst sitting on the floor while I was washing up - and was trying to use it to pull up on!

Have had an idea - would anybody like to do a meet-up at Bristol Zoo? We could take a picnic, and bring all our myriads of children! Perhaps late June / early July ... or even in the summer holidays!

muppetgirl · 14/05/2008 19:12

Stefka - sorry to hear you're suffering at the mo -what is it that's making you anxious? This may sound daft but sometimes trying to pin point can help to start to find strategies to overcome the anxiety. I get anxious over new situations (ironic really as I spent a year as a supply teacher teaching in the shit schools of Reading) so dh and I try not to plan things to far in advance especially new situations or things I need to do by myself. Any new situation we try to do/go to together eg the gym, we went and checked it out together then had a few dry runs with/without the children so I can now go by myself or with the children.

Crochetdiva -I'm up for a Bristol Zoo meet up. Been there a couple of times and Ollie loves it! We break up for the summer hols in the 1st week of july then we're free till sept with a couple of things going on but not much (see above for the 'not planning too much in advance' ) Until then we're free on Mondays or weekends.

Well we had a lovely day. I was going to go swimming but chickened out so H slept instead. We then walked down to the shops to get a little shopping and H is still terrified of the sun shade/unbrella that we have. It's black -this might have something to do with it? We then picked up Ollie from school and cleaned windows, cooked carbanara (it came out like scrambled eggs so much I didn't want to give it to Henry...) and pureed peach, peach and plum and plum. Also did grape with baby rice.
Am now contimplating doing my training session -the stairs for 5 mins, jog 1 min/walk 1 min, 10 x 50 skips (beware skipping all those who've not doe it in years and just had a baby, you may feel the world is going to fall out your fanjo. -Or is that just me? )

will tell you all later if I do

....thinking about it you may all smell me anyway!
