Dal -money saving tips

Plan your meals and try to use leftovers for next days food. Write alist and STICK TO IT! Easier said than done sometimes though
Freeze leftovers, cook from scratch where possible.
Don't do buy 2 get one free or other offers, you spend more initially as you buy 2 when you were just wanting the one.
Walk wherever possible, has the double wammy of saving money and keeping fit.
Find out what there is too do locally for free, walking in the local park, adventure playgrounds, cycling with lo on the back in a seat, picnics etc.
Charity shops for books (the ones I go in quite oftrn have the Richard and Judy booklist, not always the ones you'd choose but sometimes that's a good thing!)
Charity shops for clothes.
Go through your house room by room, have a good sort and try and sell those things you really don't need/want/use anymore.
Carity shops for toys/books for lo. Keep houshold things for lo to play with, Ollie currently loves all the plastic milk bottle lids I've collected (about 70) he organises them, sorts them into colour/size etc.
Sit lo in their highchair and put plastic spoons, bowls, cups for them to play with. Remember, a saucepan and a wooden spoon is a lo's best friend
Re credit cards, pay off the one with the highest interest rate, transfer to 0% rates if you can.
Turn the heating down a notch and put on jumpers.
Shut doors to keep in the heat, turn off radiators in rooms you don't use.
Turn off the light when you leave a room.
Try not to leave tv's on stanby/chargers plugged in not charging.

Will have a think and let you know of anymore I can think of

I have just had my hair cut, coloured and blowdried straight and I love it!! Are thinking of having it permantly straightened -anyone had this done?

Love to all
Staying in due to the rain and wanting to keep hair straight as I'm Godmother at a Christening tomorrow and fancied looking different in the the photos.

Dalrymps · 19/04/2008 21:19

Muppet - thanks very much for the money saving tips, i'm currently trying to cook more and more from scratch to save money. I do leave the tv on standby though, dh turns off all other switches if not in use as he's fussy like that but will have to remember the tv too! If you think of any more let me know. Glad 'the girls' are standing proud again , mine are far too free and easy for my liking at the moment , am still wearing old maternity bras, will have to get my scafolding sorted!
Off to make more purees now, the plan is to make all he needs up to 7 months then I can have a rest from the pureeing till the next batch.
Oh and by the way, im VERY EXCITED cause my sil is in labour right now! We don't know what sex the baby is so can't wait to find out, will be off to peterborough next weekend to meet our new nephew/niece next weekend all being well, eek!
Anyway must go peel and chop, catch ya soon

Dalrymps · 19/04/2008 21:20

...Oh by the way LLL - very you don't have to worry about finances, you lucky lady you!

Mine · 19/04/2008 22:31

evening everyone!
Had a bad day today. DS has been very grumpy all day, hasn't been eating well, crying and not sleeping much either. He's usually so good that days like this are really hard on my patience.
Hopefully tomorrow is a better day.....

Question 1 : If your lo had a poo in the middle of the night do you wake them to change the nappy or wait until the morning...?

I know this may sound like a silly question but the last 2 nights in a row ds has been having secret poos in his sleep. I find them lurking in his nappy when he wakes in the morning for his nappy change around 7am. I'm thinking that when he has been stirring in the middle of the night he's pooing but is still asleep iykwim. Do you think i should wake him for a change???

Question : Night terrors..... does anyone have any experience of these..? If so, is there anything i can do?

xxxxxx

Dalrymps · 19/04/2008 22:56

Sorry you've had such a bad day mine, know what you mean, I'm often wiped out by a bad day with Dylan cause he's such an angel the rest of the time!
With the poo thing, unless he actually woke up I might leave it till 7am but I suppose depends when the poo happens, if it's not long after he goes to bed I would change it but if it was closer to morning and he hadn't woke i'd change it when he did wake. Thats what i'd do anyway .
I don't have experience of night terrors but remember a lady who ran a baby group at our clinic mentioning them, she said that it was when the baby cries in their sleep and nothing you can do soothes them, she said the baby is not aware of what is going an as is still asleep but can be stressfull for the parents. Can't remember if she said they just grow out of it or if there is anything you can do? Sorry thats not much help but it's all I know.

Dalrymps · 19/04/2008 22:58

here's some info although it says night terrors can start from 9 months sure the lady at the clinic said it could be earlier.

FloriaTosca · 19/04/2008 23:56

Just a quick hi...visitors have just left after joining us for dinner so we are pooped and ready for bed. Sorry you had a bad day Mine. And more sorry about the night terrors, how frightening for him and distressing for you.
We had an absolutely dreadful day on Thursday Dh really couldnt cope, I was teaching with only half an ear on my pupils and the other half totally tuned into his horrendous screaming at the other end of the house...for 3 solid hours!!!! It was awful...I just wanted to tell pupils to go home so I could see to my babyThe second he was in my arms he calmed down but occasionally hiccuped for the next hour ...even in his sleep! Sadly the only thing we think it could have been was that Dh had been away and after 4 days of exclusive Mummy and Grandma attention suddenly he was left alone on Thursday with a daddy he didnt recognise..????...Poor Dh tried everything he could to calm Alex but he didnt want to play with anything, didnt want Dh changing him or feeding or to be bathed by him...awful for Dh too....I've said he must take Alex for a walk in the pram or a drive in the car if it happens again (at least then I wont be torn in two by it as well!)...and at least now Dh understands what I mean when I say I've had a bad day
Crickey, look at the time, must get some shut eye..
hope the night terrors were just a one off Mine
goodnight all!

muppetgirl · 20/04/2008 08:04

Hi all!
Mine - re the night terrors Ollie has them infrequently but for a few nights at a time. He thrashes in his sleep sobbing uncontrolabally and can't be soothed at all. We have to carry him downstairs (minding the punches and kicks -it's the only time he's really violent) We sit him on the sofa and slowly wake him up cuddling him as he does. Once he's calm and awake he's then happy to go back to bed. 3-4 nights in a row then nothing for ages. We don;t know what sets them off and he can't talk about what he's dreaming about. Not a food thing not a telly thing as I won't let him watch anything but Cbeebies at the mo.
I personally think it's an over active imagination but that's just my theory. I did teach for yr4 lad who had them just before the start of every term I think it was stress related.
So sorry for you, it's not nice at all to see them so upset and pushing you away...

My hair is still straight (Still loving it ) have got dh to take photos so I will upload them later. (Just to show that my hair was once all lovely and groomed like)

Christening today, can't wait to get fressed up as I love all that fuss and nonsense. I have my tummy holding in pants that do my bum and boos so I should, hopefull, fit into my dress. Ran out of time to buy shoes so are hoping something strappy and gorgeous falls out of the wardrobe. Not likely though really !

Have a good day, see you all later
Emma

muppetgirl · 20/04/2008 08:06

that should read dressed and boobs

alicet · 20/04/2008 10:43

Muppet hope you have a lovely day at the christening! Can't imagine you with straight hair - thought your curls looked fab but sure straight locks are lovely too! I think sometimes it's just good to have a change isn't it?

Dal good luck at the money saving SAHM mission! I am crap with money so haven't too many tips I'm afraid!

Floria sorry you had such a terrible time although like you say the silver lining is that at least dh doesn't think you're winging when you say you've had a tough time!!! Never a bad thing for them to see what it's really like is it but must have been very upsetting for you.

Mine I would def not wake my lo up if they stayed asleep when they had a poo!

Hello LLL, Anyasmum, newmama and everyone else!MIL is staying for the weekend so dh and I had a lovely meal out last night. Got to head off now and be sociable! See you later...

AnyasMum07 · 20/04/2008 19:15

Dal - is your nephew/niece born yet? Congrats - hope all went smoothly.

Mine - sorry you had a rubbish day yesterday. I'd always said I would change Anya usually wakes in the morning with a dirty nappy and it doesn't bother her, so I've never disturbed her sleep to change her. I've no idea when she does it. Feels slightly revolting to think about it but there you go. About night terrors - don't have any advice - very distressing for you though, hope you get some help from somewhere.

FT - poor Alex, poor you, and poor dh! Maybe Alex was just paying dh back for being away for so long - that'll teach him . Definitely recommend the buggy/car - always works with Anya if she's playing up with my parents.

Muppet - hope your christening went well.

Anya is really sleepy at the moment - think it must be the teething - she's napped 4+half hours today so far, 5 hours yesterday, 4 hours Friday, and this is on top of 10-12 hours at night (sorry Choc ). I'm getting loads done! She's also developed a nappy rash, which she never gets - is that down to teething too? Still can't feel anything sharp in her mouth - it's taking sooooo long.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everybody.
x

Hi Inzi!! you have no technical luck! look forward to hearing your news.

Anyasmum, am of the sleep but not of the teething... Have you recovered from your hangover?

Dal - any baby news yet??
Mine - hope Eren's okay tonight - no advice but many hugs.
Floria - poor you - and DH! I always find taking Rebecca into fresh air helps when she's crabby anyway.
Muppet - your hair sounds lovely!

EJT/Strawberry/Floria/any other BLWs: I am wondering if you had opposition to waiting till 6 months to wean - people are starting to imply that Rebecca will be backward unless we wean her soon (she's 22 weeks) and DH is starting to believe it whereas I think she's not that hungry so might as well wait...

We've had a nice few days... swimming and pizza with Alicet on Friday. Yesterday went out with my parents, today have been on a walk and shopping and tomorrow is DH's birthday so will have a carpet picnic for dinner! Bit different from previous years when we've gone to restaurants but hey-ho, life changes. Alicet - how was your meal last night?

Oh got a new pushchair - i-candy cherry - it is SOOOOO light!

Have a good eve all!

Dalrymps · 20/04/2008 21:49

BABY NEWS(long time since thats been written on this thread)Hey everyone, oh god, how stressfull waiting for the baby news was! My poor sis was in labour for 36 hrs, managed 27hrs on gas and air, then had been stuck at 8cm for ages so had some pethedine and they put her on a drip to move things along, then at about 34hrs they said it'd take 2 more hours to get to 10cm and she was so tired (not surprised after so long!)so she asked for an epidural, she had it, rested whilst she got to 10cm and finally pushed their beautifull baby into the world at 7.11pm tonight!
I have a niece! Mia Grace 7lb 3oz, gorgeous brown hair just like her mummy!!!
Had a quick call from my bro, he sounded over the moon and exhausted, so happy for them.

newmama0 · 20/04/2008 22:04

congrats at becoming a auntie, dal

glad to hear you sis is doing good (if not tired!!) and what a lovely name.

will chat tomorrow because im wiped out from my weekend and full of cold!!!! (thanks george)

but again a big congrats and please send them my congrats and when im feeling better i will have a v large glass of red wine, to of course wet the babys head

strawberrylace · 20/04/2008 22:06

Hello everyone!
Dal - that's lovely news about your new niece, bet you are very excited. So long since ours were little isn't it? Well done on all the puree-making as well!
Muppet - how was the christening? did you find some suitable shoes?
Anyasmum - teething is taking a long time here as well, sorry that her bum is so sore
Hello to Mine, Alicet, Inzi and everyone else!

Choc - i was lucky with the BLW as DH was happy to give it a go, and no-one has dared to say anything against it (well not to my face anyway!). It helps that my sis is also doing it with her youngest, who is a couple of months older than DS. I did give him some veg and rice cakes to gum before the 6 month mark, but wanted to wait as it was the goal I had set myself when having the BF problems ages ago. I'm that people are implying your LO will be backward. DS wasn't really interested in food either, but now he loves it, and loves feeding himself, so I am glad i waited.

Hope you've all had a good weekend

Dalrymps · 20/04/2008 22:08

Yeah i'm now an aunty 3 times over and all in the space of 18 months! 1 nephew and 2 nieces, i'm so lucky, just had a glass of bucks fizz to celebrate (classy - left over from xmas)

FloriaTosca · 20/04/2008 22:08

That is such lovely news Aunty Dal Welcome to the world Mia.Congratulations to all your family (and oooh, 34hrs! your poor sis [exact opposite of envy emoticon]..hope she is recovering quickly.)
