Dalrymps · 17/04/2008 10:35

alice, crochetdiva and floria, thaks for your kind words about my bfing, feel better all the time about it, I promise i'll stop beating myself up about it now (although have told dh we just have to have another lo so I can give bfing another go - good plan ).
Alice - I really feel for you going back to work, I would be dreading it too hopefully once you're back it'll be better than expected.
Have no idea what i'm doing cause I can't go back to my old job as it's in Newcastle and i'm in Berwick! I haven't applied for my child tax credits/working tax credits yet, my ideal plan for the near future would be to be a sahm if we can survive but it depends on what ctc and wtc plus dh's wage will work out at... If it's not enough i'll have to find a p/t job, Berwick isn't exactly full of exciting career oppertunities though .
I'm actually really enjoying being at home with Dylan and am currenly researching as many ways as I can to save money in the hope i'll be able to carry on, i'm gonna start making my own bread .
My ultimate dream would be to have some kind of internet based business, something to do with babies of course, I just about managed to get a degree in 3D design/product design so would like to put it to use!
J20 - glad Shannon is ok after her little fall.
Floria - hope you survive your mums 'help'.Speaking of bad nights, Dylans sleeping seems to be going off on a tangent the last few days, don't know if it's the weaning? Usually he goes 8pm - 7am but last few days has been waking around 5am and refusing to settle and so eventually coming in to our bed. Last night he went to bed at 8pm, woke at 11.45pm - managed to sing him back to sleep... then he woke at 2am and the singing didn't work so I just brought him in with us again and he slept till morning. Not sure what thats about?
Choc - don't know how you do it, that was only 2 wakes and i'd had enough!
LLP - hope huw's eye/s get better soon
LLL - Is it you that's a SAHM? Without sounding too presumptious I would think your dh earns more than mine but generally do you find you have to watch your finances? Any tips in general on the whole SAH business?
Got my first AF toady since Dylan was born ah well, at least I know my body still works iyswim.
Took Dylan to get weighed yesterday, he's only put on 2 and a half oz in 2 weeks, is still following the centile line though.
Well, I just made a big pan of italian soup (sil's recipe) so i'm off to check on it, hi to anyone I haven't mentioned, catch ya soon

newmama0 · 17/04/2008 10:38

hope everyone has a good day off to toys r us to see if i can get one of them food holder things

FloriaTosca · 17/04/2008 10:42

J20;LOL at you wanting everyone to change their names back and ROFL at pink lumps.Sorry . Seriously, perhaps Shannon just isnt quite ready for lots of solids yet..isn't that what baby led weaning is all about? Going at their pace? Whether it's Alexs gum a strawberry to death in 4 bites or Shannons happy with milk for the moment thanks Mum...she's not exactly failing to thrive on milk at the moment is she? I think we all get a bit fixated by the books telling us we need to do "x" now and "y" then..I cant now believe how much I got my knickers in a twist about Alex pinching my banana 10 days before the 6 month mark And thanks for asking about his sleep....3.20 for feed and 6.07 for up...a lot better thanks. Hope Shannon is completely recovered from her fall.

Right we are off to meet grangran (it what it sounds like when he is shouting for her)to buy some more holiday clothes..c u all later.

yourlonglostpal · 17/04/2008 11:18

morning all

dal - i got my first period today too! boo - but at least we got quite a long respite. couldn't believe my eyes tbh, tho it does explain low mood few days ago.
good luck with the economising .

FT - so of your trip to SA. is it pure holiday/friends/family/wedding? i'm sorry i can't remember.

now i don't want to worry anyone, but i've seen strawberry on lists of food to avoid at first. can't remember where and guess cos allergies are fairly common.

h's eyes getting better, thanks. he was funny yesterday - lay kicking for ages saying, 'blahblahblahblahblah'! - it'll be 'whatever' before long!

have lovely days everyone.

llp/apricott x

Dalrymps · 17/04/2008 13:25

LLP - yeah, I was saying on here the other day I felt like I had PMT, I thought it was to do with finishing bf but now I know why!

muppetgirl · 17/04/2008 15:48

Hi all

LLP/J20 - I was told thAT STARWBERRIES ARE ONES TO AVOID FOR LO'S AND IF THEY (OOOOO sorry for shouting!) are allegic they throw it right back up...

Ejt- I need to learn how to do rounds so I can crotchet lovely hats and booties!!! How long do booties take to make as I'd really love him to have a pair I've made for his Christening on the 4th May.

Well we did go underwhere shopping and the lady says I am a 32 D which is a bit of a surprise as I've been wearing (pre H) 34 c. I've got 3 new sets and they are lovely. I also made dh be official cushion holder in Laura Ashley as even he agrees that the dog chewed cushions we have currently do need replacing. I know I could make them but I can't find my sewing machine at the mo...I think it's in the garage somewhere which means it really could be anywhere. Am very tired and my back is aching so I am going to make dh cook dinner

muppetgirl · 17/04/2008 15:52

oh and my Uni friend had her baby girl at 3am this morning. 8lb 1oz Megan Rose. Out of my 8 close Uni friends there are 8 children and 1 on the way...we are hoping to have a reunion this year as we haven't all been in the same room since my wedding (5 years this year) should be v. exciting!

J2O · 17/04/2008 16:38

just a quickie-Shannon sicks everything up anyway muppet, so that doesn't mean anything where she is concerned, i probably wont be buying anymore till they get a bit sweeter anyway, have just done a batch of pumpkin, carrot, sweet potato and butternut squash for her to take to my mums for the weekend.
Glad you got some decent bra's Muppet, my mum was the same, she thought she was a 38A and actually she's a 34C. Bugger, i can't remember what anyone else said again! God, my memory is terrible.

muppetgirl · 17/04/2008 16:48

J20 - at your mum!!! Just like me. Well trinny and susannah have said most women do wear the wrong size bra...
Are very happy that my boobs are now back on my chest and standing proud (rather than hanging just above my navel )

Good news about the strawberries, (ie that Shannon's not allergic!) just thought I'd pass on what I'd been told. Not based on anything scientific though

AnyasMum07 · 17/04/2008 16:55

Think Anya's started teething again. She's not been happy for last 24 hours and woke earlier screaming her head off - calpol should have kicked in by now - dh is walking her round singing to her. Very red hot cheeks and drool and snot everywhere (dd not dh!).

ejb & newmama - welcome both! Any jam doughnuts left?

Muppet - sounds like a fab easter bunny party.

j2o - enjoy your hen weekend!

FT - enjoy your hols - am sure your flight will be fine.

Anya had another hearing test this afternoon - the one where they make noises behind her and see if she turns round - had to abandon it because she wouldn't stop crying . Anyway, they're going to try again in a couple of months - should be easier then as hopefully she'll be able to sit unaided - makes turning round easier.

Weekend should be good - friends coming round Friday night for dinner (dh is in charge of cooking - usually very good - but think we're heading for a takeaway as not done any shopping yet!) Then Saturday night I'm out with some mums from playgroup, just for a drink, although the pub is driving distance for me so might not be very alcoholic night. Probably won't mind that though as Friday will be quite boozy.

Anya's just about stopped crying now ( at dh)- will go and take over. Have a good weekend all.
x

crochetdiva · 17/04/2008 19:47

hiya muppetgirl - the bootees I made for Mairwen take about 2 hours each ... if we can't get together for you to lern in time, then I will make him a pair for his Christening.

at your boobs being in the right place now!

j20 - not so at Shannon puking all the time!

Anyasmum - the distraction he\ring test is notoriously unreliable - it didn't pick up Rhydian's hearing impairment - he was too nosy!

Hi to everybody else - am about to go to bed: it's been a full-on day, and I've sliced the top of my finger off with my new knife ... - at least I was able to find the slice and remove it from the salad!

muppetgirl · 17/04/2008 19:51

Crotchetdiva - thank you for your offer! I am getting dh to do all the jobs I need doing before giving him a fashion show! I am evil wife extrodinaire! He has put Ollie to bed and is now going to get the plant pots out of the garage and put them back in the garden.

Anyone else need any jobs doing?

Dalrymps · 17/04/2008 21:54

Muppet - any change of a quick flick round with the hoover?

Woooozle100 · 17/04/2008 23:05

waves to everyone

all this talk of nice baby dinners - gave j a truly vile concoction today - defrosted too many veg cubes earlier so popped bits of cauli and red cabbage back into bag of about 3-4 oz of ebm. I mixed it with that little star annabel k pasta (which was all congealed)and cos it was still too runny I added baby rice to it. Ughhh. He ate it though. Eeek - what would Nigella do there?

J20 - hope you have a good weekend.

Anyasmum - they won't even attempt that hearing test at my local hospital until 8 months cos reasons you said.

Crochetdiva (haha - just worked out who you are. Hiya!) Didn't know yr ds has hearing probs - just found out dd has moderate conductive loss following sedation test. Think more grommets and maybe hearing aid for one ear - seeing ent next month.

Newmama - tis pretty soul destroying to pump and get such tiny ammounts. I know it doesn't reflect what baby is getting. Glad that yr both happy with switching between bf and formula. I've been doing that - and am pretty happy / accepting of it now. Resented it at first but hey ho.

Dal - I'm a web geek by profession (prefer web mistress ) I had a great idea re baby product but need some practical /design / sewing nouse.

Anyway - going now before post really does turn into epic novel. tata x

muppetgirl · 18/04/2008 07:32

Morning all

Feeling purt today as I have the new scaffolding underwear on.

Lovely
x

ChocolateHobnob · 18/04/2008 08:23

Hi everyone!

Ejb, Nigella is the woman who admits to putting the dregs of people's wine glasses into her risotto... so maybe she WOULD like your concoction!

Crochetdiva, is your finger okay? Ouch!

On the subject of hearing tests, here they seemed to do it when DD was one day old in hospital... it was traumatic because the woman doing it was being observed so she went on and on trotting out platitudes to impress her observer, then after one ear was pronounced fine the other was deemed iffy and the machine conked out, and the observer went off for a coffee, and the woman got a new machine and then set it up but observer didnt reappear, and so we had to wait for ages before the test could be redone and DD's hearing was pronounced fine. Honestly...

Muppet, laughing at your bra description, but really I've been so many different sizes in the last year! I'm probably committing Trinny and Susannah crimes too!

Dal, Apricott-as-was (keep forgetting your new name!!) I got my AF last week when DD was only 21 weeks. It made DD fussy on the breast to start with...

J20, good luck with the weekend - sounds either fun or horrendous, can't decide..!

Saw Alicet and gorgeous smiley Adam yesterday and they're coming round later for lunch. Also went to Jo Jingles yesterday which was fun and got a new pushchair, an icandy cherry, cos it is rear and forward facing and dead light to push.

Hugs to everyone not mentioned!!

Stefka · 18/04/2008 09:22

Hey all,

behind once more. I keep getting ill and it is driving me nuts. I had to call DH home yesterday because I had a migraine. Not something I normally suffer from - don't know what is going on with my health right now.

Dareh is almost six months! Can I give him finger foods from six months?

DH bought a mango for him but I have no idea how to tell if it is ripe or not - does anyone know?

muppetgirl · 18/04/2008 10:17

HI Stefka - Mangoes are ripe when they give a bit when you squuze them. If it is rock hard it's not ripe. Same with advocados.

Finger food, don't see why not Crotchetdiva is best to answer as she's doing BLW (EJT). Sit him on your lap when you eat and see what he does....

I meant pert not purt too!

FloriaTosca · 18/04/2008 12:49

Muppet; Lol at your scaffolding! Glad they make you feel good...hope you really made Dh work for his fashion show!
I'm a bit shocked at the strawberries and allergies thing....I sat through 2 hours of the community nursery nurse waffling on and on about which foods to avoid and at no time did she mention starwberries!Having allergies ourselves we have been really careful about which foods we introduced first and would have avoided them if we had known.. fortunately Alex seems to be ok,thank heavens, good job too because he adores them!.. especially Tescos finest (not got cheap tastes my son!)

Stefka; I'm basically doing blw too and finger foods are fine from 6 months, just watch for gagging if they take too big a bite...apparently you should be prepared for some back slapping at first and have some boiled water to hand to help wash it down, (though we have only had to back slap once). Alex loves very ripe mango but usually needs me to hold it for him because it is so slippery(I probably need one of those holder things strawberry reccommend).

Crotchetdiva; ouch!, hope the finger isnt hurting too much.

Anyasmum; Sorry Anya is suffering, well done dh for coping
mine isnt coping so well...
...got to go he's waking in a bad mood

strawberrylace · 18/04/2008 19:19

Hello everyone
DS is suffering from a cold at the mo, but a little better today so we met some mums in town and had a lovely hot choc in the M&S cafe. All the LOs were v well behaved sitting up in highchairs - DS polished off 2/3rds of a banana with the help of the feeder!
Now me and DH are having takeaway pizza for tea - think DS will have his fave standby of philly cheese on toast and yoghurt...
Stefka - basically once LOs get to 6 months I was told they can eat anything except honey and too much salt, and the earlier you try them on finger foods, the easier they take to them. Agree with what FT says, and obviously recommend the feeder for slippery fruits! They find it easiest to hold things with a 'handle', so things like broccoli spears, toast fingers, spiral pasta... HTH

alicet · 18/04/2008 20:30

Hello ladies - sorry been a bit offy onny recently!

Muppet pmsl at the image of you slinking around in sexy undies while your dh takes pots in and out of the garage!!! I like your style lady!

Crochet hope your exam went OK and that your finger is mended - they bleed like mad and look very dramatic but usually heal really well.

J20 hope you enjoy your hen weekend - sure you are putting the bevvies away as we speak!

Well I have just had a lovely day with Choc and Rebecca. We went to their for lunch, then took the lo's swimming and then went to pizza express with Sam and our dh's - lots of fun! Although Adam appears to have caught Rebecca's sleep resisting disease today so if it continues tonight you won't see me for dust choc!!! Only joking of course!

Work seems to be sorted - got an email from my colleague who does the rota to say it is all now sorted. Thank god for that! Now I can chill a bit and enjoy the last 2 weeks off with my boys... J20 I am officially back at work but on annual leave hence the confusion and I would normally be expected to swap any on call shifts before going on leave. Except as I haven't actually been in this job yet (we swap hospitals every year and I would have been starting at this one the day after Adam was born) and hadn't been sent a rota I don't know how they thought I would be able to do this [hmm}!! Anyway all's well that ends well!

Hey newmama0 - yeah i've heard the lo's are more likely to get colds when they're cutting teeth, Dylan still doesn't have any teeth, keep feeling his gums but nothing as yet.
You're going to York hu, I used to live not far away when I was younger, well it'll be about 8 years ago now, I lived in Ripon, that anywhere near you?
Alice - sounds like you and choc had a nice day wish I could have gone swimming, got Dylan a swim nappy so hoping to go soon
Well, so far Dylan has tried carrot, avocado, apple, sweet potato, and pear and liked them all so going well
Well just relaxing with a glass of red wine so gonna go now.
Hello to everyone I haven't mentioned, hope you're all doing ok, catch ya soon
