Well thought I should start a new thread in time to link it on the old one!!!

Stefka · 02/04/2008 18:42

Ah I am all behind again. I used to be able to post on this thread every day - I don't know what happened?!

Weaning is limping along really. He likes bannanna a lot and doesn't mind sweet potato and apple but carrot, potato and pear did not go down well!

Good luck to your DH Apricot - Edinburgh is a lovely city. We wish we could afford to live there!

muppetgirl · 02/04/2008 19:22

Lisa - his birthday was last week but his party is next week! I did the invites myself, won't be as good as yours but they were okay but thanks for the offer. I also did rsvp cards with

Dear Commander Oliver,

Space cadet_

Will/will not be available for this mission.

Am going to make the party bags out of black felt myself as it won't need heming as felt doesn't fray. Might sew on a star or 2...

I have bought black plates/servietes (SP?) sliver glittery cups, black ballons with stars on adn a 50ft x 4ft high space room decorator -you just pin it up and voila! Space! My biggest bargain was the glow braclets for the party bags 50 for £3.99 (I think £2-£3?) from ebay. I also bought 15 x 'water' clocks from sainsbury's in January at 20p each. They are clocks that run on water with a little salt. (you should have seen the face of the woman at the checkout -15 water clocks?) The boys will love them. The girls have pink glow in the dark stars.

Stefka · 02/04/2008 19:35

I do a drama session based on space - of I lived near you I could have come and done it for your party! It all sounds fab - you are very creative!

Stefka · 02/04/2008 19:45

I mean if not of.

alicet · 02/04/2008 19:50

Muppet your space party and party bags sound fab!!! What a great idea about the water clocks to!

Lisa I think there are rocket invites on ebay - sure I saw them when I was looking for fireman ones for my Sam. Having said that you're a graphic designer aren't you so sure the ones you make will be much better!

Stefka good to see you and sounds like weaning is going well. Adam seems to pull faces at most new tastes but after a couple of mouthfuls is well up for it! He seems to be getting the hang of it really well - would prefer the sleeping but hey beggars can't be choosers!

Well I have a mate coming round tonight for wine and curry - really looking forward to it - a bit of adult no baby conversation - bring it on!!!!

muppetgirl · 02/04/2008 20:42

Alice -that's exactly why I knew Lisa's would be better; graphic designer v teacher (fight, fight, fight!) Lisa wins hands down!

Stefka - I have heard of 'history' parties where the kids dress up etc etc. A space drama party would have been great

I need to find my sewing machine as I've not had it our for ages and it seems to have disappeared....

Am thinking of a rocket cake as it is rectangle and I can use roll out icing to cover it. Anyone got any other ideas?

Dalrymps · 02/04/2008 20:52

Hey Stefka, long time no hear. Hope you are doing well, I've been reading up on weaning although haven't started yet, apparently babies have to try something 14 times before they know whether they like it or not so thats encouraging, probably will just take a looooong time to get lo used to all these new flavours? Just a thought anyway. I'm off to remake a puree that went wrong last night, dh tasted it and it wasn't good so back to the drawing board. Catch ya all soon

strawberrylace · 02/04/2008 21:09

Just popping by to say hello to everyone! sorry i haven't been around recently - don't know where the time goes...
Anyway, all is well in strawberryland. DS is sitting on his own happily, and getting used to food - he much prefers stuffing a rice cake or bit of carrot in his own mouth to me feeding him sweet potato mush, so i have bought some more things for finger foods today.
Have also popped into work to update my boss on my plans to return (part time at the beginning of sept) and caught up with a work friend for a gossip. Plus met up with a group of mums today = we are shocked that our LOs are 6 months old this weekend....
Hope you are all well and welcome to Frangipan

LisaLessLumpy · 02/04/2008 22:01

Muppet - I like your ideas, I had pretty much the same the other night whilst in bed. All I dreamt/thought about was the party etc don't feel like I slept a wink. Also sweets for the party bags... mars bar, milky way, starburst can anyone think of any more?

I'm quite looking forward to designing the invites actually, I'm not totally going 'space' theme as such, just rockets really, so bright colours.

Two months to go till Sam's party and its all I can think of already

TheLadyEvenstar · 02/04/2008 22:54

I can't believe what they say now that it takes so long for a baby to like a taste lol guess i am lucky..tonight Zachary had spaghetti below ya knees (or bolognaise for those who are normal lol) that dp made, i don;t do jars he eats what we eat lol...am i doing it all wrong, only thing he was unsure of was kidneys lol

muppetgirl · 03/04/2008 08:03

TLES - you are so lucky Henry isn't really into food at all! It goes in his mouth, he pulls a really awful face like I have just stuffed salt and grapefruit in , it goes round and round and then comes out again! He may eat a little but that's a purely by accident I'm sure. He does like sweet potato and butternut squash but boy cannot live on potato and butternut squash alone!

Well, today not a good one as I have to take Oliver for his MMR and Henry for his final fabs. Not a nice afternoon so wish me luck! I think a trip to Toys r us is called for, that's if the screaming ever stops!

ChocolateHobnob · 03/04/2008 08:12

Good luck Muppet!

Welcome Frangipan; for some reason your name keeps making me think of marzipan...

I might be the last person in Britain NOT on facebook. I refuse to give in - I don't have time to do what I want as things stand, so facebook would just make it worse. Plus I'm horribly nosy, so once I started I'd never be off.

Interesting to hear all the weaning stories - I've got a while to go yet. Though DD is hungrier these days - she can't go 12 hours anymore, starts being hungry around 5.30 having had her last feed at 7ish. I'm not as bothered about that as some of you would be, because getting up at 5 30 is the least of my sleep problems, but not to go back on about that.

Off to the seaside today for lunch with some friends. Should be nice. Hope you're all okay!

alicet · 03/04/2008 08:40

Choc have a lovely day!

Muppet hope yours isn't as bad as it sounds! I'm dreading them having to have their jabs when they're old enough to understand what's happening.... Get yourself a big glass of wine at lunch I say!

LES isn't the ultimate aim feeding them to do exactly what you do with Zach - get them to eat what you do? He just started earlier than all of our los so they will catch up eventually! Sam does this now although he often has his tea earlier than us. So I just freeze small portions of what we eat in the freezer for him so I can just heat it in the microwave for his meals. Being more adventurous with Adam too in terms of trying finger foods earlier - I was PARANOID with Sam of him choking - don't think this makes it more likely though and if I am here when he's eating then he would be fine even if a bit did go down the wrong way!

Yes facebook is a bit of a disaster on the getting things done front really. Oh well - I think once I've got over being excited about finding out what everyone is up to I'll probably chill my bones a bit!!!

OP posts:
Stefka · 03/04/2008 09:35

Well I think we may be seeing some slight progress in the sleep dept! Two nights ago I heard him at five am but he had stopped crying by the time I got to the door so I waited and he went back to sleep! He didn't do it the next night but last night he was up at 2:30 and after feeding him back to sleep he did his usual trick of waking up 20 mins later just I was drifting back to sleep. Again he had stopped crying by the time I got to the door and went back to sleep and he did the same at 5am! So baby steps but steps in the right direction!!

TheLadyEvenstar · 03/04/2008 11:18

lol alice thats cos i got a greedy lil so n so lol....

he is mad on bananas with weetabix, digestive biscuits, actually anything you can add bananas to lol.....but he is a good eater...reminds me of ds1 and now he is a fussy so n so at 9 yrs

ejt1764 · 03/04/2008 12:54

Hi all - am not having much time to post with the Easter holidays and all!

Welcome Frangipan! I have dd (born 1st October) and ds (5 last October).

Hi Stefka - glad to know all is well!

Also hi to inzi!

Choc - you and I are the only ones in the world not on facebook I think! Mind you, I'm on Ravelry - which is like facebook, but is for yarnies ... I'm spending an inordinate amount of time on there! My hat for the duel was made and sent within 4 hours of starting it ... here's hoping the post beats my opponent!

Muppet - would love to meet up with you to chat and crochet in rounds ... you name the date and the place - I'll be there! Monday mornings aren't good for me (are they for anybody? ) as we do yago, but apart from that, I'm fairly flexible (must be all that yoga ).
Hope the jabs go / went well.

Alice - loving that thread - would love to post, but can't think of a suitable one!

tLES - am at spaghetti round da knees!

Mine - hiya!

LLL - didn't realise you were a graphic designer ... may have to pick your brains ...

Apricott - fingers crossed for dh's interview - although I'll be if you leave me as the only Wales-based oct girl!
at pictures of your nips and belly on facebook!

Dal - at you re-making purees!

Well, we've finally officially started on solids - Mairwen has been started straight on finger foods (ie exactly what I have on my plate ), so so far this week, she's had:

  • broccoli (not impressed, but ate it anyway)
  • green beans - yum
  • peas - interesting trying to stuff them in her mouth
  • potato wedges - loved these)
  • red pepper (loves this the best of all)
  • breadsticks - loves to suck on them.
  • carrots - not so sure

She's started getting cross if I'm eating and she's not - she sits at the table with us, and joins in - so much easier than faffing with purees!

Now off to make myself some egg-fried rice ... free food on slimming world! (Have now lost 16lbs)

tara all!

Mine · 03/04/2008 14:20

hi everyone
just a quick one.. have you seen this site??
its great for finding local mums and relevant things in your area.... but not as good as MN of course!!

its... www.netmums.com

muppetgirl · 03/04/2008 16:34

Hi all

Boy oh boy was that a bit of a trauma...
Oliver was done first and he screamed, then sobbed ubcontrollably whilst I held his arm for the second jab (pre-school jabs + 1st MMR as we didn't get him done as a baby) then when it was Henry's turn he hid behind a chair and was shouting, 'No Mummy, don't do it to Henry!!!!' was very for him. He wasn't impressed by the plasters and didn't want a sticker from the evilnice nurse who'd just stabbed him. Not easily bribed my boy and his affections are much harder to get than just by being given a meer sticker

He is to have the second jab in 3 months time BUT as usual with our DR surgery you can't book that far in advance. For once I stood my ground and asked why to which the receptionist replied that the books aren't made up for then, which I said was ridiculous as if I phone in a couple of weeks time to book for 10 weeks ahead it will be full...as it is with the babies injections. She said -oh well, you'll have to ring and try. If not we can triage it. Great it will get done but why not just have an app booked????
Is this something to do with keeping waiting lists down as you can't be counted to be on a waiting list if there is no waiting list for you to be on? Or is this just my paranoia speaking?

Anyway, went to toys r us and Ollie wanted a new football so we are just off out to play with it. Have rung dh and told him it's his turn for the next jabs with Ollie.

Mine · 03/04/2008 22:29

poor ollie and Henry... they both sound so sweet. I hate it when they cry like that.

My day started good... Eren was being usual lovely smiley self, then as soon as his daddy left for work, he decided to give be grief. He's been very grumpy and unsettled all afternoon. I feel drained.

i'm bored too.
If i'm honest, i love staying home and taking care of Eren, but i get really bored and frustrated sometimes. I can't face going back to work, but feel like i need something....... maybe i just need some time to myself.

Ok now i feel guilty for wanting time 'off'....

FloriaTosca · 03/04/2008 22:50

Welcome Frangipan My Ds was due in October but was induced 10 days early so is actually a September baby, but I wasnt going to let a mere 10 days let me lose contact with this lot..

Muppet for poor Ollie..I cried when Alex had his first jabs I dread to think how bad it will be later..hope the kick about with his new ball made up for it

Alex now loves avocado, peas, cottage cheese and mini mangos but his sleep pattern has really gone to pot..he keeps waking hungry..probably because he isnt having as much milk now he is stuffing his face with solids that dont have as many calories...I dearly hope he settles back to his old routine again soon.

EJT;well done with the weight loss..I'm supposed to be doing SW too, lost 4st 7lb with them 6 yrs ago but can't seem to get the enthusiasm this time. Hope the postal service does the job with the hat for you.

Apricott;fingers crossed for the job...I lived in Glasgow for 7 yrs and we worked in Edinburgh 4 times a year...I love the place... I really hope it works out for you.

Bed beckons...hi to everyone I havent mentioned...

PolarMummy · 03/04/2008 23:09

Muppet poor Ollie, and so sweet for looking after his baby brother You have basically hit the nail on the head about the waiting lists! Although this was supposed to be being changed as it was causing too many problems.

Mine do NOT feel guilty about wanting/needing some time off, I know exactly how you feel, in fact I think you will find most mummies feel exactly the same. Its funny you saying this because I was just thinking this week that I needed some time off

ejt really interested to hear how the finger food is going, I was very tempted to go this way and skip the puree stage but I didn't feel brave enough and didn't get very much support from family so went with the traditional puree route!

Welcome Frangipan my DD was born on 1st Oct

Hello to everyone else, sorry too tired to remember what everyone else has said really need to go to bed but still have to express yet, REALLY can't wait to finish expressing.

Night Night everyone

alicet · 04/04/2008 16:34

Can't believe it - wrote a great big long post this am and the f*cking computer crashed! Then Adam woke and we had to go out so only back to you ladies now...

Muppet big hugs and it sounds like you handled it all brilliantly. at stupid doctors practice though. How frustrating!

Mine know what you mean about finding it boring sometimes. It does get better and better though as they get older and more interactive. I try and get some me time during the day by reading in a cafe while Adam sleeps (somehow feels like more of a treat than doing the same at home!) and getting my hair cut. Also check out baby / toddler groups near you. Try for a few weeks each o find your feet but you may find some are more suited to you than others - they seem to attract similar types of people so find one where you feel most at home! Should be loads in London though... Also google these - sing and sign, jo jingles, messy monsters, yoga bugs, tumble tota - all stuff for babies and toddlers. Some will not be suitable till he's older / mobile but some will be good now. I find that getting out and about and seeing other mums helps not to mention the benefits to him of doing different stuff. Or maybe try getting him into nursery one morning a week depending on your financial circumstances to give you some me time?

Must go - Adam shouting. Back in a min...

OK rant alert...

I officially start back at work on Tues but ages ago had agreed that I would have 4 weeks of annual leave meaning that I officially go back to work on 6th May. Now this week my colleague who works out the on call rota said that HR had failed to tell her that I was doing this meaning I am down to be on call this month! Needless to say I'm not best pleased and I'm NOT FUCKING DOING IT!!!!

Now as it stands I don't think they are expecting me to do it but I will have to do extra when I go back to pay back people who will have to do my shifts this month. That's fine and what I was expecting. But she has now said (or implied anyway) that if I'm down to do a weekend I might have to do it. No fucking way I'm thinking - will have to keep my fingers crossed that when she sends me the rota I'm not on it!

Just pissed off really. Not looking forward to going back to work anyway but could do without having all my colleagues think I'm a bloody skiver when actually it's an HR cockup.

Ho hum... And sorry for the appalling language but as you can see I'm a bit hacked off!
