Afternoon everyone, I've been trying to farking log on all morning! Do MNHQ not realise what happens when MN is down?

Right, I'm going to catch up now...hope everyone is well!

foxythesnowman · 04/04/2008 13:00

Perhaps that's why they did it? They were testing us ... who would stay put, who would be fickle and leave their PCs to go and do something constructive??

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 04/04/2008 13:03

Well, I've been doing constructive stuff all week (hence not being around), but dp is off today and has gone to play golf, so I don't see why I should be working when he is swanning around doing naff all!

How are you foxy? I am filling in dd's pre-school forms. She starts on the 23rd [sob]!

lilQuidditchKel · 04/04/2008 13:07

greetings all & welcome Fairy (I think you are relatively new?)

been so busy worrying about things with DS (2.1yr) that haven't thought much about posting here for wee 10m DD!

With DD we've been on 3 bottles for awhile now - one at about 7am, one at about 3pm, and one at 7pm before bed. Don't think there was much drama when I dropped one to go from 4 to 3. Just did it one day!

Am planning on switching the afternoon bottle to a proper sippy cup soon, as she's stealing her brother's cup all the time anyway - goodness he has a mind of her own I tell you it's gonna haunt me when she's 10 I just know it.

Re DS: he might have speech problem - am speaking to a therapist to see if it's my irrational fear or what - plus I want to potty train him soon, as he's got the hugest wet nappies. on top of his tantrums and whatnot it' s mayhem here.

v v glad to see the sun though. what a miserable winter it's been!

on another note entirely...anyone have any clue where I can buy a shallow shelf about 2.5 feet long to put in my hall? Homebase is useless...

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 04/04/2008 13:12

Hey kel! Hope ds is ok. Boys are generally slower speakers than girls, so I'm sure he's fine. A lot of 2 year olds aren't talking much. As for potty training my dd was dry during the day at 2 1/2 I think and she is nearly 3 and is dry at night now, but a lot of children are over 3 before they get the hang of it, so don't fret my lovely!

Are you still looking for somewhere new to live?

foxythesnowman · 04/04/2008 13:12

Sounds like you've been having a stressy time LilKel (all the more reason you should have been on here!!! )

What makes you think DS has a speech problem?

And toilet training? Blimey!!!

foxythesnowman · 04/04/2008 13:17

Did that question sound a bit abrupt? It wasn't meant to, sorry. I saw a thread the other day about someone who's nursery had expressed concern about her 2.5 yo. I posted, "don't worry, so young" etc, but the thread went on about SALT referrals etc. I immediately started to panic that perhaps I should be worrying about DDs speech (she mis-pronounces words with an 'L' in them). But I've decided she's just lazy and can't be bothered.

That's why I was asking LilKel. Not because I think you shouldn't be worried, but am genuinly curious as to why you are worried. IYSWIM.

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 04/04/2008 13:25

AAARRRRGGGHHH!! MN keeps logging me off and my pc is being hella slow and my ds is screaming at me and trying to climb my leg! Can't I just farking MN in peace for a few minutes?!

HellHathNoFury · 04/04/2008 13:30

Holly come join me at my job, I do bugger all all day.

Today I have sent myself an email with my shopping list for tomorrow, sorted out my mobile phone call diverts, read half of wikipedia, chatted to mum on the phone and surfed on ebay for a while.

Nothing like a bit of gainful employment to keep you busy.

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 04/04/2008 13:34

Well done fury! Sounds like a day of fun! I especially like emailing yourself a shopping list! How organised!

Bollocks! I've just been reading the pre-school booklet and they expect children to be drinking from an open cup. Dd can't do this...right I have 3 weeks to teach her

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/04/2008 13:37

Hi all. Despite the sun there is a big grey cloud over the jammy house because the car won't start :{ DH has been trying to fix it (dodgy battery connection) but no use. Now arranging a hire car so we can get out to try to find the part he thinks he needs. He's like a bear with a sore head in the meantime.

HellHathNoFury · 04/04/2008 13:39

now, because I am ever so busy and important, I am looking for an avatar generator so I can put it on my FB profile.

I think weemee will do, if only I can find an export tool.... that will be anouther 30 minutes used up.

lilQuidditchKel · 04/04/2008 13:41

hi - i think DS has a speech problem because he can only say 10 words (half of which are only understandable to me) and he should have at least 50 by now and 200 by 2.5yrs. He also doesn't use any two-word combinations. He doesn't ask any questions. He points, grunts, whines, then tantrums rather than attempts to speak. He doesn't say his own name, at all. He won't even try to repeat certain sounds I make - while a few are said ad nauseum. Just typing this is making me depressed...! Therapist should contact me next Friday though so hopefully I can get an evaluation at least...

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/04/2008 13:45

How old is DS?

lilQuidditchKel · 04/04/2008 13:47

25 months old

lilQuidditchKel · 04/04/2008 13:49

...lilkel searches for "avatar" in dictionary so as not to appear too thick...

HellHathNoFury · 04/04/2008 13:51

My nephew didn't start really speaking until he was almost 3 - we thought it could be hearing problems, speech problems etc etc etc - in the end and after many tests it turned out to be nothing, and one day he just improved dramatically.

Hopefully it won't be anything but at least after an assessment it will hopefully set your mind at ease

HellHathNoFury · 04/04/2008 13:52

avatar - visual representation of oneself, ie, a weemee

basically a cartoon or other virtual figurine that is designed to look like an actual person

HellHathNoFury · 04/04/2008 13:55

ooo wikipedia lists it under 'avatar - disambiguation'

disambiguation. Funky word.

Sputnik · 04/04/2008 13:56

Hi everyone. Lilkel, my DD at 2 had a very few words: mum, dad, duck and bubble pretty much covered it. A few months later her vocabulary suddenly exploded. We had some cds of old fashioned nursery rhymes she really enjoyed and joined in with. Now she just recites whole chunks of "Shreck" dialogue and pooh bear poetry.

DKMA, I have managed to make big changes to my body in a few weeks with exercise and watching what I eat. I got a DVD from the states, so no good for you for now as it would take too long to get to you, but I was reading good things on here about this the other day. That is awful about your friend btw

HellHathNoFury · 04/04/2008 13:59

lilkel, same as Sputnik with my nephew, he said about 10 words until he was nearly 3 and then all of a sudden, total chatterbox

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/04/2008 13:59

I was only saying a few odd words at 2, Mum was worried, but a month later, just before she was going to seek medical advice I said my first sentence "Aunt XXX got lid on loo" and stunned the whole family. I was just too lazy it seemed and it took an extraordinary occurance to spur me on.

lilQuidditchKel · 04/04/2008 14:02

thx for the reassurance but my gut feeling is that he's frustrated, should be speaking more, but isn't because he can't. I'll ask him to repeat something and he'll just look at me like I'm a Martian. Perhaps I should be asking him to say "disambiguation" instead of "biscuit"

HellHathNoFury · 04/04/2008 14:02

My first word was 'shit'

Probably because my older sister used to say to me ALL the time 'Who's got a shitty nappy'

Someone kill me, I am SO bored and I have a massive headache from barking coughing all day

RiaisMaLarkin · 04/04/2008 14:07

Lilkel, DHs nephew didn't speak and it turned out he needed grommets in his ears, then he changed overnight after he had them. Our Sure Start has a drop-in speech therapy clinic for anyone concerned, do you have one of those so you don't have to wait? I can imagine it's very worrying, my boys have all been complete chatterboxes with embarrassingly adult vocab - I am very proud but blimey it's hard work
