I don't like chickens.

If it's any consolation I organised my birthday surprises too bumper. Are there any dads groups you can force DH to go to at gunpoint? He will find out though. They seem to think it's all TV and bacon butties, and eyeing up the pretty mums

SOrry your day isn't going to plan jammy. Hope you get some rest.

I have made s discovery. I am allergic to chardonnay. We don't usually buy it but our friend brought a bottle the other night and I had two small glasses last night - cue tickly eyes and swollen nose and a night of sneezy and runny nose. Yuk.

lackaDAISYcal · 25/03/2008 09:56

hope everyone is feeling a bit better this week and that all these illnesses pass on (leaving me and mine well out of it thank you very much)

morning....hope everyone had a lovely weekend. Remind me never ever to go anywhere involving kiddies attractions on a bank holiday ever again. Eureka was bloody mental yesterday. When we got there the queue was over an hour long, so we wandered around Halifax for a bit (most of the shops were shut), tried to find somewhere nice for lunch....erm not in Halifax (everywhere shut, one place had no highchairs and didn't do kids meals (wtf?), next place had no highchairs, but at least they did kids meals, no changing facilities in the toilets, but an empty syringe packet (nice)). Then went back to Eureka and waited only 5 mins to get in, where it was so busy, you couldn't get near the exhibits and the noise, OMG the noise!!!

bumper, I'm exactly the same with birthdays. I know DH is a bit rubbish at these things so I have to hint and hint till the point that it feels like I've organised it myself and it doesn't feel like a surprise. I should just relax and let him get on with it and stop being so control freaky, but that's easier said than done.

I'm sure your DH will get out and aboout with DD when he's ready. I think it can be more of a big deal for blokes as it's usually women who take the babies to things. A friend of ours is a SAHD and he said it was a good few months before he felt comfortable and could actually find a group that didn't treat him like he was some kind of pervert.

lackaDAISYcal · 25/03/2008 10:47

andiem....thank you thank you thank you for the clothes; they are fab. A little bit of hemming and the trousers will be fine

I got your email as well thanks; but I'm going to cover the postage for you, no arguments.

FrazzledFairyFay · 25/03/2008 11:17

Hello peeps, sorry to hear about all the D&V going around. We are, finally, clear thank goodness. We also made it to the wedding, both DD and DS stayed with DH's aunt and cousin in the end. after all my worrying, they were good as gold and really enjoyed it - in fact DD didn't want to come home

Bumper, it's my birthday this week as well, and I know how you feel about doing the organising, etc yourself.

Andiem, I'm glad you had a good holiday, despite the poorliness.

Sputnik · 25/03/2008 11:17

I'm with you Ria, living on a farm with chickens (and ducks and geese) is completely overrated.

It was freaking snowing here this morning. We drove all the way to DD's school only to find it shut, why can't they inform us ffs. Everyone else seems to know these things by some kind of osmosis. I have no idea now if it's open the rest of the week or not.

FrazzledFairyFay · 25/03/2008 11:20

at the Chardonnay allergy Ria. My DMum is 'allergic' or 'intolerant' to all alcohol, she only has to have half a small glass of anything alcoholic and feels absolutely terrible the next day. she never used to suffer so badly. I'm just crossing everything that I don't go the same way.

Sputnik · 25/03/2008 11:22

Glad you had a good time Fairy.

BTW, I finally had the experience most of the rest of you have been having for months, of coming into the room and finding Baby Sputnik the other side of it from where I left him, eating a till receipt. He can still only move backwards though.

HellHathNoFury · 25/03/2008 11:31

lol sputnik

DS can now stand unaided and can walk fine with his pushy thing. the house looks like a bomb has hit it most of the time now.

I don't give a shit about chickens but DH wants them. He also wants an allotment to grow his own veg, and has just yesterday planted a load of courgettes, red onions and beetroot in the garden. I don't care if it keeps him happy!

lackaDAISYcal · 25/03/2008 11:58

yay for baby sputnik; there'll be no stopping him now

I'd love some chickens but we have foxes around here so they'd probably get eaten.

fairy, glad you got to the wedding at the weekend. did you enjoy your time away? The first time I left DS I talked about him non-stop and missed him terribly. Now I'd happily leave him with whoever wants him! I was looking at your fb photos yesterday. They are lovely.

It's still bloody cold here. We're having a pyjama day watching TV and pigging out on Easter chocolate. I have a mountain of washing to do so I can get us packed up for our trip tomorrow. And I need to tidy a bit as we have a friend coming in to attend to the cat!

andiem · 25/03/2008 12:04

morning all

lurgy on the wane here just me with a sore and snotty nose

glad the clothes will fit daisy enjoy

bunper I know what you mean about birthdays too wtf is it with men they just don't think in advance and then run round at the last minute dh always does this he came home to a lovely green and blacks egg on sunday I came home to nada
I would just plan the day for myself and tell him he can come along if he wants
my bf dh looks after the kids when she is at work and he is fine he goes to jo jingles and things with them and he is vv macho I think your dh will find his niche but he will have to make an effort ho hum he'll learn

I'm with sputnik on the chicken front true london girl me

andiem · 25/03/2008 12:05

fairy glad you enjoyed the wedding and the dcs were good can be stressful staying wih other people with littlies

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 25/03/2008 12:31

Fairy - glad you had a good time at the wedding, and the DCs had a good time too.

Slowly coming round here. I'm on the mend, and have managed some toast, and a little while ago took the "kill or cure" approach of having a couple of rolos . But seems to have perked me up somewhat. I think I was in need of some blood sugar, having in effect not eaten since Sunday lunchtime. DH still suffering a bit though, and the jamlet has stopped eating, so got them to look after.

FrazzledFairyFay · 25/03/2008 12:35

I'm glad you are feeling abit better Jammy, but shame you and Dh couldn't have your day out as planned.

I really enjoyed the wedding, although I may have had a few too many beverages . Now that I know the DCs loved staying with DH's aunt, and she loved having them, we might plan a couple more nights away . I did miss them but it was lovely having no responsibilities for a couple of nights and I really looked forward to seeing them on Sunday. I also feel more able to cope this week, as a result.

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 25/03/2008 13:27

COOOOEEEE!!!

Is anyone there?!

We've been super busy here. Ds is a complete PITA, he is everywhere all at once and I seem to spend my life extracting things from his mouth and stopping him killing himself. I nearly shat myself on friday when ds followed me upstairs! We have really scarily steep and high stairs, dp found him on the top stair and I was nearly sick thinking what could have happened. We have spent most of the weekend decluttering and fitting stairgates to stop our son injuring himself!

Hope everyone and the dcs are well, I'm going to catch up now x

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 25/03/2008 13:41

I sit here on the sofa with the jamlet asleep on my lap, the cat asleep next to me, and DH asleep on the sofa opposite. I'm f'in bored!!

Sputnik · 25/03/2008 13:50

That's a sign you're recovering Jammy.

Hiya Holly, we were worried you'd flounced again

We have some serious decluttering to do here too.

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 25/03/2008 13:58

Hey jammy and sputnik hope you are well! I'd just gone to catch up, but dd pooed and ds was in the snack drawer, so I gave up!

I hadn't flounced, don't worry, I have just been SERIOUSLY busy and my house still looks like a shit hole! It is never ending!

Sputnik · 25/03/2008 14:04

KWYM Holly. Jammy is sick. I was sick but am better. Everyone else and their DC's have been sick too, erm except Bumper I think.....

lackaDAISYcal · 25/03/2008 14:12

hey holly . i poked you on fb last night, but it said you hadn't picked up the last poke and I can't even remember when I did that. guess you don't log on fb anymore.

We put the stairgates up at the weekend as well. Only problem is the bottom step is beyond the newel post so she can still get on the bottom step and grabs onto the bars of the gate. when she wants off she just sits down, bum off the edge of the step and falls off....silly baby. I also have visions of DS swinging her from the gate for laughs.

and DH nearly demolished the toilet wall trying to fit the one at the top of the stairs. The silly muppet put it above the skirting board and the gap underneath was so big I could've slid under it, never mind DD! He then took a huge chunk of plaster out when trying to move the screw holes, so we have holes everywhere now. Good job it's getting decorated soon!

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 25/03/2008 14:15

Oh dear, hope you are all feeling ok. We've not been sick, luckily, maybe it's because I never go anywhere to get bugs!

Just had a £61 cheque from NCT from the sale of my stuff. It's quite good considering I'd only sold 9 items!

Also just had dp's new company car stuff through. I got really excited about choosing one, but I've just been on the website and there are only 3 to choose from. Bah! We can have a Laguna, a Scenic or a Mondeo...dullsville! I know dp is going to want the Laguna because it's a 2 litre and the Scenic is only a 1.5, but the Scenic is way more practical. Yawn!

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 25/03/2008 14:16

Hey daisy, no I don't really log onto fb any more, dp is always on it! He is obsessed with the stupid fight club game on there, honestly you'd think he was 11! Hope you are well and not too sick xx

lackaDAISYcal · 25/03/2008 14:18

holly we have a laguna estate, and it's quite big. I think the saloon version is just as roomy inside. It's quite a good car really, although the french build quality leaves a bit to be desired.

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 25/03/2008 14:23

He has a Laguna atm, a saloon one, we wanted the new sport estate, but he can't have that one ! The trouble we have is that we need to be able to fit a P&T and a set of golf clubs in the boot!! It all fits in the saloon, but I have bent some of the clubs by putting the pushchair on top of them. Dp was not happy about that! I think we'll have to go and look at the scenic to decide.

I agree though about the crapiness, hopefully a new one will be better (or maybe not)!

lackaDAISYcal · 25/03/2008 14:27

ours is the old sports estate. It's not as swish as the new one.

lackaDAISYcal · 25/03/2008 14:28

tell him to take his clubs out of the car when he's finished. that way he won't be able to slope off golfing at the drop of a hat
