jammy, I tuck the corner of the hooded towel under my chin then lift her out backwards into the towel iyswim.

night fury.

I'm off too, DH needs the pooter room. I must get my laptop wireless connection fixed!

here's to a better night's sleep all round. My back is starting to feel a little bit stiff after my tumble so I'm off with some herbal tea, some paracetomol and a hot water bottle to bed with me

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 17/03/2008 20:20

That sounds a good idea Daisy.

Got to go, crying baby alert Will prob call it a night when I've sorted her out, so night all.

EasterBunnylicious · 17/03/2008 20:27

Grr, farking people calling after 8pm! Our phone is in the hall, has no volume control and we live in a flat so it wakes dd up. Most people call on my mobile first but MIL has a bit of a fear of them

EasterBunnylicious · 17/03/2008 20:29

Ria, that's shit about dh and the job centre.

FF wow, ds is moving! Is it a boy thing do you thing? My little bro was climbing out of his cot a 10 months apparently.

Daisy, maybe you do need to give yourself a break with the bfing. You've been through the mill with it, but done so well

justplainoldRia · 17/03/2008 20:38

saw this in our local paper and though of fury.

off to catch up.

lackaDAISYcal · 17/03/2008 20:43

I think it's just her teeth bumper, and tonight she had come off, but I offered it again. She was trying to tell me she was done I think!

The thought of having to make up bottles etc makes me want to cry with fatigue. It's soo much easier to just offer boob, especially in the wee small hours of the morning. I'm kind of resolved that my milk will start to dry up soon enough, so thought I'd carry on until that point, hopefully after she is a year so I don't need to faff with bottles.

question for those feeding formula though....what do you do in the middle of the night? get up and make a bottle including all the cooling time, heat up a pre-made one, or do you keep a flask beside you and the powder in a separate container and make up as required (or would this still be too hot to drink. DS was sleeping through before I swapped him to FF so night feeding was never an issue for me, but DD still regularly wakes up at least once for a feed.

Am definately off now...DH is standing over me looking menacing

justplainoldRia · 17/03/2008 20:43

looks like I've missed you all. I went to visit my parents to mona. It seems 80,00 jobcentre workers are on strike for 48 hours now too. Arse.

Night all. Glad the poorly ones are perking up.

Perhaps because I'm tired so often is why I can't stick to my diet for more than about 5 hours at a time? Maybe it will be easier when everything else falls into place.

One good piece of news is that our friend from when DS1 was born is coming to stay in the area at the weekend so we should see her, and she's going to be baggins godmother with my sisters (think McBeth witches). I am so pleased we've chosen the full quota and won't be sidelined into having others friends new partner for want of anyone better. Just need a date now - when did MIL say they were going away?

lackaDAISYcal · 17/03/2008 20:46

great link ria, I think I'll bookmark that. I'm already hooked on finding out what happened to his wife!

justplainoldRia · 17/03/2008 20:46

I think baggins has only had two night feeds (ie after we've gone to bed, so after midnight) since I changed him to formula, and as I usually wake up around half four (our neighbour goes to work just after 5, and "nightmare" time) I've got up and come downstairs to feed him and heat up a pre-made bottle.

justplainoldRia · 17/03/2008 20:47

I haven't read any of it, I was just quite taken with the idea of buying his whole life on ebay. Is someone going to get a free gift under the patio? Keep us posted!

justplainoldRia · 17/03/2008 20:48

BTW, GO TO BED DAISY!!!!!

FairyFay · 17/03/2008 20:52

Daisy, DS hasn't had any night-time feeds for a long time either but during the day I do what I always did with DD - I sterilise all the bottles each evening, fill them with boiled water and leave on the side. I alos pre-measure posder into a 3-part powder container. At each feed, I then add the powder, put in microwave to warm up, give a good shake and feed him. I know it's not how they now say to do it but I could never get my head around how you were supposed to cool the water, etc when a lo was screaming for a feed.

FairyFay · 17/03/2008 20:53

great link ria!

LittleMissNorty · 17/03/2008 21:29

Fleeting visit...don't do night bottles any more but when I did I would heat up pre-made bottles! HTH

Just done a neurofen top-up and off to bed now before the calpol top-up at midnight. The ventolin in the spacer with a face mask was not a success.....

night all x

lackaDAISYcal · 18/03/2008 09:26

another bloody awful night here. I fed her at 11, then she was awake again at 1 and at 4:30. then DH kindly brought her through to me at 6:30 (note hte heavily veiled sarcasm). I'd heard her gurgling, but she wsn't shouting so I was just leaving her while I snoozed.

and she tried to bite me again this morning, but I got her off in time. My nipple is red raw. And it's only the right one she ever bites. My supply isn't as fast on that side, so I'm wondering if things are drying up sooner rather than later .

I might go to the Baby Cafe on Thursday and seek out some advice.

thanks for the bottle making tips. At least it's not the depths of winter any more so getting up in the night isn't too bad.

HellHathNoFury · 18/03/2008 09:33

WHAT WAS THE SHOCKING DISCOVERY?!
WHAT did his wife do!?

Dammit

Ria - you are not far wrong - in Australia in 2002 I was in a crap marriage and left him... and met my (now) DH. I told him what my plans were and he could either join in with me in selling my life and moving on or not - we sold everything, everything we owned save photos and a couple of boxes of personal items, at the end of it all we had were 2 boxes of photos/memorabilia, 2 backpacks, some clothes, and a video camera. We moved to the UK and bought a 20 year old 3 berth caravan that leaked and lived in it for a couple of years to save money.
Then we saved enough money and got married in Arizona and spent the next 2 years living out of backpacks.

Those were my best days, I think that's why I still want to sell everything and emigrate. Again. It would be my 5th time. My Mum blames the fact I am part Romany.

HellHathNoFury · 18/03/2008 09:35

Hi Daisy, Norty

I do night FF really badly, I am slack. I make up the water in the morning and chill it during the day so it's cold, add formaula, pop in into the freezer so it's VERY cold, then when I go to bed I take it up with me in a cool bag. Then if he cries I have a bottle warmer next to the bed. that way I can heat the milk without getting out of bed.

HellHathNoFury · 18/03/2008 09:42

My mum is worried that I am going to drag poor DS all over the world and he will have an unsettled life.

Of COURSE I am!

lackaDAISYcal · 18/03/2008 09:51

hi fury...I'll post to stop you from talking to yourself

DS will have a wonderful life, full of excitement by the sounds of it. My friend has moved around with her DCs a bit and they are confident, happy, charming children. She is currently teaching in Khartoum, and her DCs age 9, 6 and 4 are with her.

FairyFay · 18/03/2008 09:54

Fury, if it helps - I was born in Brunei and lived in Malaysia, Denmark, Norway and Turkey before I was 12 - die to the company that my Dad worked for posting us overseas. it didn't do me any harm. In fact I think it made me very open minded and resilient.

Daisy - ouch, ouch, ouch

FairyFay · 18/03/2008 09:55

DUE to the company not die to the company

HellHathNoFury · 18/03/2008 09:58

Wow Fairy that sounds brill.

I was always a bit resentful actually that as a kid my parents were pretty loaded (sadly they aren't now) and I kind of wish they had dragged us off to weird and wonderful places. Instead we emigrated to Spain, which was nice and all, but I kind of felt that I spent a hell of a lot of time swimming in a pool when I could have been doing something a bit more adventurous.

But I am also aware I was shit lucky to just live in Spain for a few years so I shut up about it.

I reckon it was just a tax dodge anyway.

HellHathNoFury · 18/03/2008 10:02

We are trying to get into Madison, WI.
It's lovely there - but no-one seems to want to sponsor us so we have to find other means of getting a green card.
If we can't looks like back to Aus.

FairyFay · 18/03/2008 10:07

Either sounds lovely Fury. We are vaguely considering a temporary move to Oz, NZ or Canada but I'd find it very hard to leave my family behind when the DCs are so little.

HellHathNoFury · 18/03/2008 10:10

Why only temporary?

NZ is lovely - I wouldn't mind going there either really (shame the NZ$ is so weak though).

We need it to be 'right' though - as wherever we go, it's a one way trip out of the UK. In the current economic climate, we could never afford to move back here and live in any decent sort of house after a few years of AUS/US$ earnings.
