Gulp @ those baby pots DKMA! They cost a lot of money! FWIW though I wouldn't worry too much about vits and minerals at this age, his milk will be fortified and you've probably heard the old "food is fun until they are 1" adage peddled by the HVs. I know you aren't doing BLW but the forums on this site have a good recipe section and ideas for what DS can eat. Could you just start giving him some of what you are eating to have a nibble on? It's hard because you do worry about what they are eating and how much they eat.

BumperliciousNeedsaGlassofWine · 05/03/2008 20:40

But you are not a bad mummy btw! A bad mummy wouldn't care what he was eating! Besides it is well known that the amount a baby eats is inversely proportional to the amount of time spent preparing it!

lackaDAISYcal · 05/03/2008 20:55

fucking hell holly, do they come with free sunglasses and earplugs . We had shit lovely patterns like that on our walls in the early 70s. the only one I'd entertain is the one that's sold out.

you would need a huuuuuge room to get away with any of them I think; like a loft apartment huge.

arses, i can't find DSs wooden sword and shield after raking around in the loft for a good hour....looks like it's an evening of craftiness for me !

I did find loads of DSs old board books though, including a good few hairy mclary stories, the gruffalo and one called dinosaur roar, which is fab, and some of his cuddlies (which DD can have) and his first ever pair of teeny weeny little pram shoes

talked to DH earlier and have convinced him that we need to go for an early scan, so I'm booking one at the local ante-natal testing place for the end of next week.

I quite like that wallpaper in a way but would limit it to one wall only and choose the grey black one, not the orange. Trouble is you'd have to 70's theme the entire room for it to work.

DKMA · 05/03/2008 20:58

Holly - you are wild!!!

Bumper - thanks for making me feel better and thanks for the link to the recipe thing but I am shit at cooking and I just hate it - plus I don't get too much time to do it! I've been doing a sunday afternoon sweat shop cook off most weekends - in order to fill the freezer for the week so I don't have to do it when I get in - so I can just spend time with him and play!

Shoot me down in flames - but I don't agree that 'food is just for fun' at this age. My gut instinct tells me that introducing plenty of flavours and textures over the next 6 months or so will help get him used to many different things and avoid as much fussiness (sp?) as possible in the long run.
Anyhow - I've not seen a hv for ages - and am all for following my instinct iykwim.

I'm not sure how to do the old 'eat what we're eating' thing either as we don't eat until about 7.30 and he's well in bed by then!?

lackaDAISYcal · 05/03/2008 20:59

dkma, those baby meals look delish. I'd be interested in knowing what they are like texture-wise.

we usually just throw DD some of what we are having and she feeds herself happily. We know she's had enough when it starts going on the floor or is raspberried back at us (her new favourite trick). She does get pots when we're eating chilli or anything too spicy for her, and the ones you can get in the supermarket, even if marketed at 12mo+ are still like mush.

Agree it would have to be a big rom. Also, it would help if you and DP dressed like Captain Kirk

FairyFay · 05/03/2008 21:00

Blimey Holly, that is LOUD!

DKMA, not a bad mummy at all. My DS lives on Organix pots, Hipp jars, philadelphia sandwiches, breadsticks, cheese, petits filous and whatever his sister/we are having if it's suitable. He has days when he scoffs loads and others when he's completely disinterested and that seems to have no correlation to what he's being fed, unless it's biscuits which he always scoffs!

Well done Jamlet - She'll be cruising around before you know it (chaos!)

Daisy - I used to do probate for a living and it is sad when loved ones get a cheque, as they'd obviously much prefer that their loved one was still with them (or most of them would!) - I'm sure that your Mum would want you and your family to spend it on nice things for you all. Make sure that you treat yourself, at least a little bit.

Everyone else, hello

DKMA · 05/03/2008 21:01

Holly - I've got a friend who has one of her living room walls done in a mostly black with a bit of white running through pattern - with a grey sofa - it looks fab and very very cool!

HollyPutTheHabitOn · 05/03/2008 21:02

They are pretty mental! I think it makes dp feel all nostalgic for the 70's! I, however, do not remember such patterns as my parents have taste. We clearly do not!

Can you fashion ds a sword and shield from cardboard? It'll be fun(?)!

Is it a private clinic you are getting the scan done at? How many weeks do you think you are now? It's all very exciting!

lackaDAISYcal · 05/03/2008 21:03

i was the same when DS was a baby DKMA, and didn't eat until he was in bed; so consequently he ate a lot of baby ready meals. As they get older thoough you do tend to eat with them. I can't wait till after seven for my evening meal now, I'm starving by half five

OP posts:
BumperliciousNeedsaGlassofWine · 05/03/2008 21:04

You are right DKMA, I think it is important in terms of textures and tastes etc. what the food is fun thing means is that they don't 'need' it so much at this stage in terms of vitamins and volume etc. as most of that stuff will come from milk. We eat between 6.30 and 7 and DD eats with us but it is just before her bedtime, so not ideal either. But you could do it more at weekends. Difficult to know what to do for the best isn't it. At least you know he is getting some good meals.

That sounds fab dkma! There was a black sofa in John Lewis today and I loved it. However, our sofas are sort of a burgundy colour...not so cool!

FairyFay · 05/03/2008 21:04

DKMA - if DS 'eats what we eat' it generally means that he gets it the day after, reheated . I do agree that there is nothing more demoralising than spending ages cooking something especially for them which is then thrown back/spat out/flatly refused. You have to go with what works for you, and I personally don't think that there is anything wrong with convenience. That stuff looks great and as you said, DS is I'm sure getting great food at nursery. Don't feel bad about it

HollyPutTheHabitOn · 05/03/2008 21:06

PMSL sputnik! I just saw that post! I said to dp that the wallpaper makes me want to grow an afro, wear a red leather catsuit and sing funk tunes!

DKMA · 05/03/2008 21:06

Daisy - I gave him the salmon and veg pie one today and it tasted lovely. It was really quite lumpy - which he seems to like, it gave him something to chew on!
Nursery gave him spag bol yesterday which was only mushed up a bit - and he loved it!

FairyFay · 05/03/2008 21:06

HollyPutTheHabitOn · 05/03/2008 21:08

Daisy, I am so with you on the eating at 5.30! There is no way I can wait til after 7 for my evening meal otherwise I am almost fainting with hunger!

DKMA · 05/03/2008 21:09

Holly and her dp!

FairyFay · 05/03/2008 21:11

5:30? Blimey, I'm lucky if we get to eat before 8

HollyPutTheHabitOn · 05/03/2008 21:11

YES DKMA!! That is exactly what I thought of when I saw that print!

HollyPutTheHabitOn · 05/03/2008 21:12

8?! My dp would have eaten his way through the snack drawer by then!

BumperliciousNeedsaGlassofWine · 05/03/2008 21:13

DKMA what about putting a portion of what you have in the evening aside for the next day? Also if he is having decent meals at nursery then thinks like fairy suggested might work, DD loves pasta. Bit of pasta and pesto, chuck in some peas or something, bingo! Anyway, I'm not trying to put you of the pots or anything, they are great, just a lot of money!

Holly, that wall paper is crazy! I can imagine that it will look great but you might get sick of it pretty quickly, it's not very flexible IYKWIM, like sputnik says, you'd have to do the whole room in that style. The best thing for decorating is neutral walls and sofa, and accessorising [sp?] with lamps, cushions, vases and small pieces of furniture etc. that you can change easily and cheaply when you get bored.

lackaDAISYcal · 05/03/2008 21:15

ROFL dkma

holly, just don't get the orange and brown paper; it'll clash with your red suit

I might try those meals, well not me, but ykwim!
