glad all went well Caddy

Uni at boy, I love it when they get stroppy like that.

dd2 lost the nighttime bed wetting plot over a month ago now, after ages dry? so she's in nappies again for the moment, I refuse to keep getting in and out of bed..... talking of which she had night terrors last night, and I was up twice as was dh

am hoping no one get the sickness bug that's apparently doing the rounds.....

UniS · 27/09/2008 15:54

Took boy to look at a nursury yesterday- he wasn;t impressed. clung to my leg and refused to talk to room lead person.
Was 1st of three nursuries I'm looking at for Dec- March while I do some work. Hope he and I like one of teh other two better.

Frizbe · 28/09/2008 21:20

I'm sure he'll take to one of them Uni, dd2 is going thru the clingy phase when I drop her off at the moment, but never wants to come home when we go to fetch her

UniS · 28/09/2008 22:43

To be fair, I didn;t like it much either. not impressed by used potties in play room and barriers to accessing toilets and sinks. Also over geard one staff memeber shout over to another who was in garden " can I bring this lot over , there nothing for them to do here" didn;t sound like a well planned afternoon of activity to me.
The other two I'll look at I have friends with kids at who rate them highly.

Frizbe · 29/09/2008 19:39

eeek Uni, sounds like one to stay away from

So has anyone taken the car train to the south of france then? thinking about it next year, as dh and I booked a caravan for spring break in south of france today cheaper than uk too! (until you add on petrol of course) but dh wants to drive, as being arsey about using budget airlines so that's 3 kids and us in a car for at least 12 hours on the other side of the water, or all of us straight onto the car train, overnight sleep in cabin, wake up in nice.....can you guess which way I'm leaning?

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 29/09/2008 19:55

i'm here, floating about.

(((hugs))) caddy. be good to yourself.

laundrylover · 30/09/2008 13:50

Friz, car train sounds a much better idea...never heard of it though!

Tilly had the biggest tantrum of recent months this morning before school! Shocker. God help me the day they both go off at the same time!!!

Hello all.

Still bleeding and worried that this might be OTT... Need to do more research I suppose. (As usual I am avoiding the Dr.)

Thanks for all of the thoughts. I suspect that I have just taken on too much this week as we were in Vienna with friends from Saturday until this morning.

Friz: We just got off a night train this morning and it would be an exaggeration to suggest that we 'just woke up in Zurich' but it is far better than driving with a car full of children!

I have loaded the car on the train to get across Austria twice and it was GREAT to not have to drive through the mountain passes.

laundrylover · 01/10/2008 21:52

Caddy, please go and see a doctor and get yourself checked out. My sister was so poorly when she had a bit of retained placenta and I'd hate you to get like that rather than have a D & C/ABs or whatever.

Both my sisters and their porky babies were at my parents' this morning when I dropped Kiah off...they ended up bfeeding eachother's babies so the sis with a bad sleeper could go back to bed. When she got up she had to feed the nephew as his mum had no milk left for him. We are turning into mad hippies!!! My SIL even offered to join in last weekend as she is still feeding her DS but my bro told her she wasn't allowed to. He's such an arse.

OP posts:
Astrophe · 01/10/2008 22:33

In Italy now, on the coast near the Cinque Terre. Thinking of you caddy, and so glad DDs op went well. Love the mad hippy stories LL! Friz and LL, hope your DDs are going well at school. Uni, DS is right into "I can do it myself" on the loo as well. Today was hilarious - he was trying to wee (standing up) but the tolets at this campsite are very high, so his willy wouldn't fit over te edge of the toilet bowl and he managed to wee on his tummy...urgh!

DD is really doing her best to wnd DS up, prokoke him, "you are not going to have a biscuit...no you're not, no you're not"...that sort of thing. Ds gets really worked up "I am!!!" I AAAAAMMMMM"! Any thoughts on how to proceed? I'm sure it tottally normal sib behaviour, but I don't want to cast DD as the bully by jumping on her all the time.
Must go, its very late.
xxxx

laundrylover · 02/10/2008 10:32

Astro, my sympathies on the winding up -we have it constantly. Have you got room for a sticker chart in the camper?? I instigated one last night - Tilly gets a sticker for no tantrums (which had returned in spades!) and Kiah for not feeding in the night and staying in bed until a reasonable hour. Tonight I am rigging up fairy lights on a timer to come on at 7pm...

Just done a lovely 3 mile run with two other mums. Sitting in my dressing gown as kit in the wash and another load to go in...the sun is out!!!! Uh-uh clouds rolling in already

Astro, I'm just off to look at your photos as I just flagged the email last night when I was working...

UniS · 02/10/2008 21:33

Back home briefly. Have just spent 3 days in a caravan with in laws! managed not to kill any one. hurrah for me. home for 20 hours to do some washing, look after Boy and K tomorrow and park car up again for a weekend away . Another caravan park, this time with friends.

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 02/10/2008 23:34

caddy - there will be no more foodie parcels being sent to you if you don't go to the dr's!

honestly you must go n get it checked out - not nice granted but better to sort something simple now than something worse down the line iycwim. ((hugs))) be good to yourself.

UniS · 06/10/2008 20:51

woooo- weekend of hecticness over. was fun tho. lots of unicyclists on a holiday park making the normals scratch their heads. Gklad we booked into a holiday home caravan thing, was VERY wet and several of our friends woke up in flooded tents.
Played a bunch of hockey, did some workshops, talked to loads of old friends, watched some videos and ended up as secretary of our national organization. Ho HUm. SOme one needs to sort out the mess that the membership list has turned into.

Back home today, managed to have a chilled out day. busyness returns to normal tomorrow- Have to do supermarket run or we have no dinner OR breakfast bar toast.

laundrylover · 07/10/2008 15:22

Sounds like lots of fun Uni - I bet everyone else felt really inadequate on their 2 wheeled bikes.

Our new king size bed arrived yesterday and the mattress is so high up that Kiah can't get into the bed - wahey!!! Bet she'll learn a way soon enough though....

Quick questions for UniS: Our dd1 (9) wants a unicycle for Christmas. She has downloaded and printed pictures already. Her intro to the concept came from a circus training class after school in Vienna.

  1. Is she likely to find it so frustrating that she won't enjoy it?
  1. How would I know what to look for in a unicycle?
laundrylover · 09/10/2008 09:57

Wow Caddy!! Can't imagine having a child unicyling round the house!! Must Tilly away from the internet when she gets older...she wants a pink bike with a basket and a dolly seat for Xmas...trouble is we have a bike in the loft that is red with no adornments.

OP posts:
UniS · 09/10/2008 20:55

uni would be great for a 9 yr old- I have a 2 yr old who wants one!A fantastic hobby if she sticks with with it, a skill that takes a bit of learning and perseverance but most 9 yr olds get it in a week or two. Then they just get better and better with practise.

Ideal for home school PE as well, as with a little height adjustment brothers and sisters can share one ( kid willing)http://www.unicycle.uk.com/FAQ.asp?iCategory=53&FAQParentID=32 has a good size guide for the different wheel sizes available. If she is boarder line between 16 and 20 inch look at how likely it is that younger sibs will want to learn... OR if she is tall go for a 20 as that will last her a long time. Your chose.

Kids can and do learn to ride with out going to classes, there are simple how to books avalible and experimenting and practise is key. There are youth circus group in your area and maybe unicycle clubs too. www.monocycle.info/clubs.php for teh french ones www.einrad.ch.tt/ has some of teh swiss ones - but there are others in teh youth circus scene.

Cadmum · 10/10/2008 09:11

Thanks Uni! She can actually ride for short distances (or at least she could this time last year thanks to circus training).

The requests for one started last year but I thought that it was more of a fantasy than a true heart's desire.

She is outrageously tall so will likely need the 20. Her older brother is the same height and our six year old doesn't show any interest yet.

Are there brands to avoid? There seems to be a vast price difference in the shops here but I can't see much of a features or quality difference and the sales people have not been very forthcoming...

Frizbe · 11/10/2008 09:04

more frm me nxt wk, no net at home, work bonkers!

UniS · 11/10/2008 22:01

Caddy- hard to say what unis are worth teh money with out seeing them. However - if its too cheap to be true- don;t buy it. IF the saddle has metal parts protuding , don;t buy it, saddles should be well covered , they get drops and scuff up during learning, metal will hurt. plastic pedals are good for learners.
www.unicycle.uk.com has a good range AND they have shops inother countries. even if you don;t buy from them they are ogood for pictures and guidence.
some brands
Koxx 1 is probably over speced for your kids- and V spendy.
SEM - OK, not cheap but good quality.
Torker- good learner / kids brand. good value for money.
Nimbus - good value for money like torker but British .
Raleigh ( teh bike people) they distribute a uni to bike shops- avoid.
Municycle.de - good quality.

laundrylover · 13/10/2008 12:24

Morning ladies,

Tilly has got a tummy bug that is raging through our town. She is bright enough but pooing loads!! Had to keep her off school today.

OP posts:
UniS · 13/10/2008 22:34

oops caddy- where I wrote municycle.de, I should have writen Quax ( municycle is teh shop, Quax is teh brand.

Hi LL, poor ole tilly tyke. hope she gets over teh trots soon.

Our house sale has fallen through. our potential buyers are dithering, saying to agent that they can;t get the mortgage they want so are "thinking about offering us less" and will get back to agent in 5 to 10 days !!!!! we are putting house back on market, they have fannied about for far to long and we have no confidence in them, they lied back in August when they said they had finance sorted out. HUrpph.
Ho hum, suspect we will lose house in south zeal now. BUM bUm bum.

laundrylover · 14/10/2008 09:07

oh Uni!! Your buyers are very naughty as this has been going on for ages.. Don't give up on South Zeal though...the market is still slow remember. We had this with our last sale here the mortgage wasn't sorted at all despite assurances. We ended up reting the house but in this climate it wouldn't be so easy for you to do this I guess.

Tilly back at school - hurray!!

OP posts:
Frizbe · 15/10/2008 10:42

Hurrah for Tilly back at school, dd1 just went back here today, after 2 days off with Tonsilitis..... but back now and bouncing, had weekend from hell, with 3 nights up with earache = tonsils causing it, and dh was away, so I was working too, looked like death warmed up by Sunday I did (I have the cold that caused tonsils in dd1) all fixed now tho, phew.

Caddy, have you been to Drs?

Uni, agree with LL, market still slow, so you may still be ok with S Zeal.

LL, can you spray the bike pink? get it some sparkles for handlebars? (customize it?)

Hi Astro, hope Italy is as wonderful as it looks.

BTW think we are just driving now, have gotten great advice from a local mum who comes to Pokemon on a Friday, who drives to South of France all the time
