We have had a bad cold and terrible poos too moosma.
DD is coming into school tomorrow with the child minder, her little boy is leaving us and she will come to the assembly it will be interesting to see what happens. When she came in when he had a medical she didn't even bat an eyelid and I was at the front leading the assembly!

Hi Moosma and Peachy, glad there are still some people around to talk to. Moosma, quite of your 4 teeth as we still haven't got any! Got the manky nappies though but that might be the figs and other dried fruit that are the current fad!

Peachy, hope things go well tomorrow. DS is fine if I'm not around but the minute he sees me, he has to be stuck to me, holding my hair or he just wails!

peachygirl · 06/03/2008 20:11

She is dropped off at the gate at the end of the day two days a week at the moment so knows the place and some of the people there, but won't necessarily have seen lots of children.
I'll have to go an pick her up from next week when CM's little boy moves - it might make me get on with a bit of work though

Sorkycake - I couldnt remember - you could have had 6 for all I knew!!!! LOL!!! I did think you may have had three and this would be no.4!

We have a suspected outbreak of chickenpox here - another baby at childminder had it a week or so ago - and we have been on spotwatch for the last few days as the incubation period is 10 - 21 days - the child was contagious from week last Tuesday or so.... well this morning DS had one large spot on chin - became more pus filled as time went on! So did think about sending him and waiting for call - but spoke to my mum who said she would come over and look after him - will see if he has grown anymore over the day! He has been abit off colour the last day or so - so was expecting it. At least it wasnt in two weeks time when we are off to Center Parcs!

We only have two and a little bit of a top tooth here - DD had about 8 by now!

CurrantBun · 07/03/2008 14:08

Hello, haven't popped in for a while so apologies if a bit out of touch.

DS has decided to refuse all milk for the last couple of days, even though he is starving first thing in the morning. Had his booster vaccinations on Monday and when he had the same ones at 2, 3 and 4 months he also went off his milk for several days afterwards, so am hoping it's just a blip. He's happily eating everything else (including cereal with milk) and drinking water, so not too concerned about calcium intake or dehydration. Just frustrating when he's bawling with hunger but won't take the instant fix of a bottle of milk!

He cut his 7th tooth last Sunday and I suspect that the corresponding 8th one won't be far behind, so his mouth might be a bit sore too.

Other than that, he's doing great - not walking yet, but crawling everywhere at top speed and cruising round the furniture. Can also moo, roar (lion) and baa as well as say a few words, and is extremely pleased with himself that he can stack a tower of 7 bricks, one on top of the other!

SmudgeyDoodle · 10/03/2008 12:12

Hi Currantbun, Nice to hear you're still ok (apart from milk refusal!). Very impressed at DS block stacking ability. DS is still more destructive than constructive. He still gives himself a clap when he's created havoc though!
Andyrobo - is it chicken pox? If so, I hope it's not too bad and that you aren't climbing the walls and eating the sofa in frustation at being penned in.
Peachygirl, how was DD school visit on Friday?
Really should go and do some housework as DS is asleep. Somehow a nice milky coffee and a biscuit in front of MN has more of an appeal....

peachygirl · 10/03/2008 18:14

Hi everyone
the visit was good, I snuck in at the back and she was sat on the CMs knee. When I stood up for my certificate (for the class who are 'stars of the week' in music) she took a double take as if to say 'hey thats my mother there!'
She then got down and toddled over to me and sat on my knee. Several children came over at the end to say hello to her, which was very sweet.
They popped into the staffroom too but she went off with the CM no problem after.
We have had a friend and her baby staying so it's been a busy weekend and I am so looking forward to my own bed tonight.

Thanks for all the advice on getting DS to drink milk. I am keeping the milkshake one as an absolute last resort!! He's drinking an ounce or 2 in the afternoons, so he's slowly getting better.

We had our own medical drama a couple of weeks back. Ds turned abit grisly and I thought he was tired, until he waved his swollen finger and hand at me!! Being in a hot climate with lots of nasties we rushed to the Doctors who were quite blase about the whole thing. Ýes it must be a spider bite and then he proceeds to tell me about another child he treated who almost died from a spider bite!!!!!??!?! , but he adds right at the end I dont think your ds was bitten by one of those spiders . Thankfully he's fine now and we think he may have touched a spikey caterpillar, which apparantly is like touching fibreglass.

Ds is currently driving me absolutely potty because he will not eat properly. He's taken to spitting his food at me! I know I'm being paranoid as he's happy, healthy and putting on weight, but can you give me an idea of what your DC eat in an average day. Many thanks and here endeth the epic!!

CurrantBun · 12/03/2008 12:44

Daizydoo, really don't worry about the food thing. My DS goes through phases of being more or less interested in food. At the moment he's eating pretty well, although he's not keen on huge portions of any one thing as he gets bored, so we have to give him snacks too to keep him going. He typically has something along the lines of:

7am - 6oz milk (currently 1oz formula and 5oz cow's milk)
7:30-7:45 - Cereal with fruit and milk (approx 3/4 of an Oatibix or Weetabix, or 2 tbsp Ready Brek made with milk and cooked apple or pear).
11:00 - Snack (a couple of rice cakes, or some fresh fruit - perhaps half a banana).
12:00 - Lunch. Typically a savoury course, about 120ml of chicken or beef casserole, or fish with cheese sauce and vegetables, followed by fresh fruit (usually banana, apple or grapes) then a small pot of fromage frais (he likes Muller Little Stars).
3pm - 4oz milk or, if refused, a couple of tbsp natural yoghurt and some fruit.
5:30pm - 6oz milk
5:45pm - Tea. Usually toast with butter and sometimes jam, Organix rice pudding and a small pot of natural yoghurt. Maybe some more fruit too. He can get very tired by this time so we find easy-to-eat foods usually go down best.

He's 12.5 months now and weighs around 20lb (so is quite light really).

Hope this helps!

suzi2 · 17/03/2008 20:23

Hello - haven't been on this thread in ages. For those worrying about fussy and limited eating, don't worry too much. IME, they do that in phases. The phase DS is in has lasted about a year lol.

DD is doing great. She's loving the freedom of being able to walk outside in her new shoes! DS isn't loving her walking and is thumping her a lot though. She's also started running a little which has shocked me as DS was walking for about 4 months before he did that, I think. Eats well, not too fussy and can fairly put it away when she wants to. She hasn't gained any weight really since she started cruising so is stuck at about 19lbs. DS has only gained 6lbs in the 20 months since he started cruising so I assume they're just using a lot of energy.

Nights have improved dramatically and suddenly. She will now self settle to sleep without me in the room and typically wakes 1-2 times a night and settles after a feed without too much fuss. A HUGE turnaround for us and we have no idea why :-)

Hope all the birthday's went well. We're finally coming to the end of all DDs friends parties. I will be very glad when they're over. Next year, we must all hire a hall and just let them all go daft!

SmudgeyDoodle · 17/03/2008 20:29

Suzi2 - fab news about the sleeping. Well done and keep doing whatever it is that you don't know why it's working! Maybe she was just ready for it.
All good here but I'm shattered. DS isn't walking alone yet but loves to walk. He pushed the trolley for ages in Asda today so I think he'll sleep well. He eats what he feels like and then throws the rest on the floor. He still doesn't really drink milk ie not even 150ml a day (in total) but does have it on cereal etc so I don't think I'm worried. At the moment he's off fresh fruit but lurves dried fruit, esp dates, figs and apricots - strange child but at least he's regular! Also, still no teeth but a very cute gummy

suzi2 · 17/03/2008 22:13

For anyone worrying about the lack of milk/lack of calcium thing, go to the petit filous website (there's a banner on the top of one of the mumsnet pages) and do the calculator. DS hasn't taken any milk sicne a year and hardly any sources of milk (just cheese really) and it's been a constant battle and worry. But I did that calculator and it came out OK for his age group so I'm a lot less worried than I was.

andyrobo237 · 18/03/2008 12:52

Well it wasnt chickenpox, thank goodness, but hehad a nasty virus of some description and ended up on antibiotics (irst visit to docs when not well - not bad for a year!). He had a really bad cough and you could see how much it hurt when he coughed. Within 3 days of the medicine, he was buzzing around again, but only now is eating properly-ish. He had been surviving on two botttles of milk morning and evening, then milk and yog in the day - you would be very lucky if you could get him to have more than 3 spoons of a savoury course.

I now have the bug - been bad since friday - can hardly eat (not that it will help me lose any weight I'm sure!) - so I know how he must have felt last week! We are off to Center Parcs on MOnday so need to get fit forthat - I am also helping out at DD dance show on thursday - she is performing wed and thurs - we are watching on Wed - - so I have been trying to keep her away from me - to keep her healthy!!

peachygirl · 18/03/2008 20:57

Good news about the sleeping suzi and the not chicken pox andyrobo.
DD is doing a little jig when she wants something now which is really cute. she's eating OK but does have days when she eats very little. She has decided she likes gerkins, the sour/ sweet kind which has really surprised me. It's great though I love them!

sorkycake · 22/03/2008 15:34

Hiya all
We have 2 bottom teeth, one top tooth, with it's friend on it's way through.

Walking has progressed to running now, but with less ability to stop....it's frightening to watch tbh.

Stairclimbing, in fact any kind of bloody climbing is the hobby of the moment, including on off beds I'm sure the other two were older when they did this.

Open/close is his favourite game followed closely by taking things in/out lol

Eating me out of house and home, but finally sleeping through from 7.30pm til 6am, which I can live with.

He says mama, dada, vroom (for trains, cars), dair (there), dat (that), shakes his head til he falls over for a 'funny face', won't clap, point or wave, but pats his nappy to let you know he's poo'd if you haven't already smelt him that is .
He squats to poo so I might ask Cod about leaving a potty out, see if he uses it.

Well that's about it, oh we're trying for no.4 now heh heh!

suzi2 · 22/03/2008 20:46

lol sorky, he sounds just like DD. I keep thinking "DS didn't do X until another 3 months" with everything. The climbing and running are driving me daft though. Regarding the potty... we're potty training DS at the moment (glad I waited until 2.5) but DD is showing a lot of interest. She sat on the potty with her nappy on twice the other day and pooed. Total fluke I'm sure but if she continues to show this much interest she might be let loose with one a fair bit before 2.5! Can't believe you're trying for number 4 with number 3 like that lol. DD is number 2 for us and she's put me off having more lol.

eergugugjgjjhhhhh at the gherkins peachy. Aren't babies odd?

sorkycake · 22/03/2008 20:58

It's a personal challenge lol

I've been given temporary status on the new larger families board, but on the basis I get cracking on no.4 asap

Sallyallyally · 23/03/2008 13:19

What a fab day...we have all eaten lots and lots and lots and lots of chocolate and had a snowball fight. What could be better!

SmudgeyDoodle · 24/03/2008 20:05

We still haven't got any teeth, DS just starting to think about walking (took his first steps in the shoe shop on Friday!) but he loves climbing too. He's fairly happy sitting in a stinky nappy so don't think we'll be potty training for a while. Would be good though as some of his nappies are really turning my stomach. I feel bloody awful, keep going to bed at about 9pm and think no2 was a bloomin bad idea. How did you do it those of you with more than one?

SmudgeyDoodle · 24/03/2008 20:06

Sallyallyally, meant to say glad you had a fab day. I couldn't face any chocolate but made up for it today!

suzi2 · 24/03/2008 20:32

Smudgey, I remember thinking that a lot when pg with DD and wondering what on earth possessed me to TTC when DS was 7 months! Actually, about 2 months before she came along I had a MAJOR meltdown about it all. It just does work itself out I suppose. I was knackered and pregnancy was tough. I still feel guilty that DS never got my 'best' from 9 months onwards. I was sick, couldn't cook him proper meals, changed his stinky nappies out on the patio with him downwind from me etc. Then his whole world was rocked when she came along. He was 18 months and when I look at DD now I realise just how much of a baby he must have been. And we expected a lot from him and for him to 'grow up' quickly.

Guilt wise I'm trying to make it up to him now. But then I feel that DD has never had 1-1 time with me really as she just slots in around DS. So feeling guilty about that lol.

SmudgeyDoodle · 24/03/2008 21:27

Thanks for the patio tip Suzi2 - do you think he'll mind the snow?
I keep thinking that DS is still such a little baby, although not as little as your DS. So this guilt is here to stay then!!

MoosMa · 24/03/2008 21:42

Oh Suzi, that sounds just like me! DD1 was only 17.5 months old when DD2 was born and we did expect a lot from her, she had so little time to grow up so much, but now they are so lovely together. They do fight a bit someti for and looks after DD2. She brings her drinks, wipes her nose, kisses and cuddles her and generally does my job better than me!

I do remember being incredibly tired in the first few months of pg too, I used to go to bed at 8 and sleep for 12 hours and still be tired the next day. It did wear off though!

MoosMa · 24/03/2008 21:49

I've added a couple of pics to my profile

SmudgeyDoodle · 25/03/2008 12:05

Moosma your girls are gorgeous!!! DD1 looks very grown up and sounds like she's a great big sister. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get a bit more energy once I reach the magic 12 weeks (aaagh, still 2 weeks to go!)
