oh, and we're sort of doing BLW, in that she gets some food to help herself to, but I spoon in some more mashed up stuff in between her own mouthfuls. If we didn't it would all end up on the floor and she wouldn't get enough to eat.

Also had a horrible bread choky moment (with some baguette), but have found that she can manage hovis soft white farmhouse really well (she loves sandwiches)

she does sometimes get stuff stuck but manages to cough it back up again herself, then gets it second time! (no getting things out of her mouth once it has gone in, she's too quick)

Hi daisy

HellHathNoFury · 30/01/2008 12:44

Hi Daisy, Bumper!

thisisRialifebaby · 30/01/2008 12:45

Hi daisy. It must be hard doing the BF with the pain you've had and stuff, and you've done well gettingthis far, I only BF baggins at night now, he has bottles of formula during the day, I suppose I'll stop altogether soon.

I feel really crap today, I went to baby clinic in the hope that HV would help, but she didn't ask how I was. I have bitten the bullet and made a GP appt for Friday. Baggins has had a growth spurt and moved from 25th to 50th centile and is 19lb.

My friend did that with her car too, not so long ago, but she didn't stop using hers

DD and I have just been enjoying scrambled egg on toast. While think of it I realise that I haven't replied to norty about the BLW thing - sorry, was so wrapped up in my woes yesterday!

Anyway, it must have been really scary when K choked. Well done you for know what to do. We fully BLW here and DD rarely gags any more (only when she's shoved too much in!). We've had one choking incident, with a piece of banana (which she normally devours). I went to unstrap her but by then she had managed to dislodge it herself (phew), and hopefully if you hadn't have acted K would have done too. She actually looked like she wanted to get back in the chair and finish off by the time she had got over it!

Don't let it put you off. It's a huge responsibility, especially if you are choosing to give finger foods, but I am sure they are up to the job. DD loves feeding herself, and rarely lets me feed her.Check out aitch's blog and the forums if you want any advice.

Right, back to catch up!

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 30/01/2008 12:50

Hi ria and fury, i only noticed daisy's post!

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 30/01/2008 12:57

Daisy, sorry about the bfing. God, you've done so well coming this far. A RL mummy friend (yes, I actually have one!) keeps getting blocked ducts. Apparently you can have a predisposition to them. Do you try preventative measures for the thrush, candidia or something like that? I think you've done brilliant, and there is absolutely no need to feel guilty for stopping. Does DD take bottles ok>

BadZelda · 30/01/2008 13:01

Hi Daisy and others....god I'm crap at keeping up with MN these days! Am working 3 days a week, writing one and looking after kids the other 3 though, so that's my excuse!

We are doing BLW - and haven't had any choking incidents yet, apart from one with pita bread at playgroup: the other mums looked at me like I was some kind of murderer!

DD eats ANYTHING of any size that's put in front of her (or near enough to grab - and her grabbing abilities are quite mad!)...occasionally I spoon a bit of e.g. porridge into her, but mostly I just leave her to feed herself and clean up the mess afterwards (2 bibs, one of which is one of those ones with a shelf bit at the bottom helps a lot I find)

Have just accepted a perm job with these financial types....3 days a week, flexitime (can work at home) all of which is a bit EEEEEEEEEEEEK as I haven't had a job since 99 - but will finance all our bills and allow DH to be SAHD for a while. Job's quite fun too....I get to have a team. Not much time for MN though...

Hope everyone's well - and nice to see a couple of new faces - good to 'meet' you
zx

LardyMardyDaisy · 30/01/2008 13:04

hey bumper, fury, ria . nice to talk to you all again! I miss this joint.

babyboo takes expressed milk or formula OK from her Dad, but doesn't accept it from anyone else. We are off out for dinner on Friday and leaving the GPs to put her to bed so I'm worried about her not feeding/not settling. I imagine it will be the quickest dinner known to man as I wolf it down so I can get back!

I'm going to try giving her formula before bed tonight and see how she takes it (probably not well from me!)

LardyMardyDaisy · 30/01/2008 13:06

Hi BZ How is the book coming along? I'm still up for a bit of proof reading if you like!

IKEA do two packs of wipeable bibs with sleeves and a pocket which are coming in very useful here! Think I might get some hard ones though for catching stuff.

milkyJammy · 30/01/2008 13:23

Hello everybody!
I have found the 2nd foodstuff that C doesn't like: houmous with olive

BadZelda · 30/01/2008 14:03

Book's coming along OK....latest draft is with the publisher now, so he can give me feedback....and a sneaky draft of it is with ANOTHER publisher...which may or may not amount to anything - but it is ready for a read by a 'civilian' if you want me to send it to you Daisy? Writing is now focussing on treatments for the next book, but I can't actually start writing that until I've managed to blag a research trip to Japan (that's my excuse anyway).

R.e. Formula - have had the same problem with DD - she will only take formula from Daddy and gets v. freaked out by EMB in a bottle...although I still have to express at work to avoid norks bursting.

thisisRialifebaby · 30/01/2008 15:38

has everyone gone away?

OP posts:
LardyMardyDaisy · 30/01/2008 16:10

late lunch due to sleeping baby, then school run Ria, but I'm back now....after detour to the shops for wine!

babyboo had avocado for the first time today....it went down a treat. She also had uncooked apple. I was worried about her choking as she doesn't chew too well, so I grated it. She had great fun squishing it between her fingers!

LOL jammy even most grown ups would find olive humous too strong for thjeir tastes!

Sputnik · 30/01/2008 16:11

I'm here, having prized the computer off DD.

LardyMardyDaisy · 30/01/2008 16:11

I'd love to read your book BZ

LardyMardyDaisy · 30/01/2008 16:12

Hi sputnik

thisisRialifebaby · 30/01/2008 16:18

hi daisy, I have just found your message om FB from 7th Jan (I haven't been able to log in to FB for ages.) thanks for replying.

I am BORED. I'm too miserable to find something to do so I'm pretending to be DH and snuggling baggins (he is having a sly BF he shouldn't really be having). I am hoping DH gets home in time to feed the boys or they'll get toast. (He has gone to sit in on another kitchen quote for the people with the new restaurant. He'll be having a great time, shame he can't get a job doing that.

Hiya Daisy.
I'd read your book too BadZ, I read all kinds of weird stuff

milkyJammy · 30/01/2008 16:33

Daisy - she likes some strong flavours. Loved some crab I gave her the other day, liked goats cheese with garlic, and something else I forget. But this was just too much. The other thing she turned her nose up at was avocado - glad babyboo liked it though

LardyMardyDaisy · 30/01/2008 16:35

Not sure what to have for tea. We got our first organic veg box today, so it'll be something with either leeks, califlower, parsnips or mushrooms.

I've been doing the perfect mummy thing and making lots of lovely nutricious home cooked meals for the last week or so (as a foil to all the take-aways we were eating when we were in Scotland), but I just can't be arkled tonight. toast sounds like a good idea to me

LardyMardyDaisy · 30/01/2008 16:36

is seafood OK for LOs? We eat a lot of prawns and occasionally mussels and squid, but I wasn't sure whether to give any of it to babyboo. she loves salmon though.

milkyJammy · 30/01/2008 16:40

I couldn't see anything to say not to give it them. Hope it's OK , she's had haddock, pollack, salmon, tuna, prawns and now crab.

It's going to be sheppy pie for us tonight, with a side order of stir-fry sprouts from the veg box. C will have leftovers tomorrow. She's got mixed veg with mixed root veg mash tonight.
