Well done RG !

ChocolateHobnob · 29/04/2008 21:22

Well done on weight loss RG!!! And good luck with moving to FF. You've done a great job of bf despite all the trouble you've had - you're a fab mummy. To be honest, bf has been easy for me, easier than ff would be - I couldn't claim any credit for bf.

My friends have all moved from bf to ff with babes aged between 16-26 weeks and they've just cut one feed out every three days or so and it's been fine. Good luck!

Well off to bed here having watched How to Look Good Naked. Hmm.. even Gok couldnt help my post C-section and post too many choccy biscuits while bf flabby tum!

Thanx LOM, thanx Choc!

As for BF, i wouldn't say i've had a tough time of it really. I mean i know there's been a couple of times when i've been fretting about DD fretting etc etc but all in all it's been bloomin' easy too. I've been so lucky not to have encountered sore nips etc. I really do feel tho that if i'm not enjoying it anymore then she will pick up on that. I've done my bit and i'm proud that i lasted as long as i did.

When you say that your friends are cutting out one feed every 3 days or so, are they replacing it with food? I've been swapping the feeds far more rapidly than that, i.e. alternate bf and ff but will obviously BF through the night and first thing in the morning for as long as i can as it's quite nice to do that.

I'm sure you look wonderful, even without Gok's help!

RGPargy · 29/04/2008 21:43

Loopy - do you mean carry on doing alternate feeds like i am for the next 2-3 days and THEN swap another feed, do the same for 2-3 days then swsap yet another feed etc etc?

Ah ok, that's fine. I dont seem to get engorged, even if i've not fed DD for 12 hours! It's probably because my boobs have lots of excess skin from being stretched before lol.

I dont mind at all that it takes a while to switch over. I'm very happy being able to alternate the feeds at the moment and i dont feel quite so "trapped", IYSWIM. I'm such a shy feeder so this is the answer for me.

Thanx for the praise - i very proud of myself too for BF DD for so long. So many mums give up after a few days!

Oh i totally agree with you on the support front. If i'd have had the support with DS he would have been BF too but i just got told "oh he's not interested is he?" and then that was that!! I had no bloody idea what i was doing, no internet way back then to look stuff up on and deffo no leaflets about where to go for help and support. Not even encouragement from anyone either! Shocking stuff!

did anyone see the thread today on the mum who was bf in a cafe and some twat came over and had a go at her for bf in public? its people like that who make bf hard too

RGPargy · 29/04/2008 22:13

lol Jarm!

Sparkly - it's horrible isn't it. I didn't read the thread but it makes you not want to BF if you're feeling nervous about it!

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 29/04/2008 22:47

I am ok with BF in public, I have a 'Fuck off' face on when I am BF plus I have DH with me most of the time, and he wouldn't let anyone start on me.

RGPargy · 30/04/2008 08:15

Ah see, i would be sitting there red faced looking sheepish, which would probably invite comments from ignorant people!

According to a recent article in the Independent that someone linked to on another thread:

only 35 per cent of UK babies are fully breastfed at one week, and 21 per cent at six weeks. Less than 2 per cent of babies are exclusively breastfed at six months.

Interesting statistics!

RG, my friends swapped one bf for a ff every three days or so to try to get the breasts used to less demand before reducing the bf again (if you see what I mean). It is intended to help against mastitis. Interesting: in my NCT class, we all started off bf and now only 2 out of 7 of us are, and the other one who is is trying to stop but lo won't take a bottle.

Mine won't either so we're now trying a cup...

It's a positive MONSOON here! Nearly flooded. Am going out for lunch so will get soaked.

Have a good day everyone.

sarahloumadam · 30/04/2008 09:23

Hi all, haven't got time for a proper catch up because my mum and dad are visiting from Scotland but glad you are all well.

RG - let us know how the switch to formula goes, I am going to start weaning Adam soon and will carry on bfeeding for now but need to wind that down before I go back to work and I was wondering how you went about it. Think you have done fab (I am a fellow shy feeder, only just starting to get more brazen and confident now!)
x

jetgirl · 30/04/2008 11:11

choc - one of the girls at bursery recommended Avent magic spouts to us as William was refusing his bottle. He definitely seems to prefer them, if you've already got avent bottles you only need the spouts, they're about £3 for 2.

umbrella - can't work out who you are! We have baby brain here, you need to give us more clues.

rg - you've done so well with Ellie

sparkly - I'm with you on the 'fuck off' face!

My friend visited with her 4 week old baby last week. She is struggling with feeding - not because she finds it difficult but because so many people are undermining her efforts and suggesting formula to help babe sleep at night. She's only 4 weeks for ffs! We had a good natter and fed our babies together which was really nice.

So fed up with the rain!!!

littleoldme · 30/04/2008 12:35

Hi Umberella - I know who you are XX

RG _ You sound really happy that you've found a feeding solution that works for you. It must ne a weight off.

HI JARM MWAHHHHHH. Lovely to hear from you XX

Sparkly - I love the idea of a fuck off face. I have to say that I've never had any bother from anyone in public ever and I get my norks out anywhere.

When we were on hols we went on a steam- train. There was an oldish gut sitting across from us; anorak, beard, floppy jam sarnies - you get the picture. Any way I fed T and expected some comment or dirty looks. But no, he cooed over T and told him how lucky he was to always have a packed to hand !

I'm kind of hoping I do some aggro though c'os I've got a really good speech planned and I'd hate for it to go to waste.

Jet - the whole thing about formula helping babies sleep gets on my nerves too. If it does it's only c'os it's more difficult to digest so stays in the tummy longer. Grrr

littleoldme · 30/04/2008 12:36

That was an oldish guy btw. Not and oldish gut

wonderstuff · 30/04/2008 13:27

Hi all just a quickie
Glad being 30 isn't too bad, I'm 29 next month and starting to get anxious!
umbrella know what you mean about work, I've just found a great childminder and dd will only be there 3 days a week but the thought of it makes me feel sick, tried to leaver her with my mum on fri so dh and I could go out for dinner, just got food when got call that she wouldn't stop crying, wouldn't take a bottle, she was hysterical by the time I got back and she knows my mum Anyway she had been waking every 2 hours but all that crying wore her out and she has been sleeping better since? She has also started rolling aned is now very mobile which is cute, but keeping me on my toes
