hi all, callum had an eye check today and he is longsighted, but boarderline for glasses, so we have to go back in 4 months

Pixiefish · 25/04/2008 07:36

Sorry bout that SGK. How did they know to test him and hos on earth do they test a baby

SparklyGothKat · 25/04/2008 09:00

lol, they put drops in and they dilate the pupils so the doctor can see the back of the eye, they then shine a light into the eye abd see how it reflects back. the angle it relects back at tells them if they are longsighted or shortsighted. then they put lenses in front of his eye and shine the light into his eye and see which lense makes the light reflect straight and not at an angle. I know all this because DD1 has wore glasses since she was 4 months old

RGPargy · 25/04/2008 14:06

Hi all

Having talked to DP, he doesn't think 4 days a week is doable for going back to work. Saying that, he's not the one who took DD to MIL yesterday for an hour and came back to an absolutely sobbing inconsolable baby!!! Apparently she was like it briefly the last time i left here too and i dont know why! Maybe DD knows i'm not there and just gets really anxious??

On a lighter note, i got DD weighed today and she's put on 6oz in a week and now weighs 13lb 1oz so i'm a little relieved that she's putting weight on. When i started giving the formula to her, she started pooing once a day but has now gone back to her normal routine, i.e. she hasn't pooed since Tuesday. The HV doesn't see that as a problem as she's only having one formula a day. I hope this is right!

Got to pick up the cat from the vet soon. Poor little thing still isn't right but they told me he's not happy there and want him to come home for a bit so that he can (hopefully) relax a little.

jetgirl · 25/04/2008 19:32

Hi all,

Sparkly - I never knew they could test eyesight so young. Since DH and I are both speccies we are fairly sure are LOs will be at some point.

RG - good news about Ellies weight gain

Well, it's my last day in my twenties! DH and I are having a joint party tomorrow which should be nice, the weather looks lovely, but it's been slightly spoilt by the fact my dad's just been diagnosed with a form of blood cancer. They've caught it early apparently and the chemo is in tablet form so hopefully all will be well, but it's put a bit of a downer on my day!!

SparklyGothKat · 25/04/2008 19:46

yes, Callum has been having eye checks to make sure he doesn;t have a squint since he was 4 months old (Ds1 and DD1 both have a squint and wear glasses) but thursday was the first time they have checked to see if he is longsighted like DS1 and Dd1

Pixiefish · 25/04/2008 20:39

sorry to hear that jet.

Happy birthday for tomorrow

littleoldme · 26/04/2008 10:35

Hello. Just had a quick catch up.

RG- Bummer about you having to go back full-time. Hope you manage to sort out DD at MILs. Might it be easier for Ellie if MIl came to you ? Sounds like you've been through it.

Loopy - Glad to hear DD is giving you a bit more rest. The funeral sounds harrowing but it's good that DD brought so much comfort.

Jet- Happy birthday. Hope you have a fab party.

Lizzie/ Sara- T wouldn't have bottle either and I tried three different kinds. I was advised that NUK bottle with latex teats work if anything will. He now takes formula in one of these quite happily.I tried him with it a bit for about three days and he evntually took it without fuss. Won't have EBM though as it goes off even if I freeze it.

Febes - Hope you are having a relaxing Saturday. Sounds like you've had a hard week.

Wonderstuff - Love the name. I have many happy memories of jumping around to w stuff songs in my stripy tights and Doc Martens. Oh for the early 90s.

Well I had to get up and express and chuck it away this morning as I has my very first hangover in more than a year [ bad mother emoticon] It was my turn to host our book group; less poncy than it sounds - social drinking with a veneer of literary appreciation. We had a fab time. BIL is coming over with his girl friend tonight and we've got old uni mates visiting tomorrow. I'm glad life is picking up again as it's been very quiet lately.

Last weekend we went to Whitby for three nights. T very much enjoyed his first holiday and it was great to spend time altogether. The fish and chips weren't bad either.

The only downer has been that my friend's 10 month old was rushed to hosp with suspected menigitis. She had the rash and was very floppy. Turned out she had a bug and had been so sick that blood vessels in her face had burst causing the rash and she'd gone into shock. She's on the mend now but it was very scary.

RGPargy · 26/04/2008 13:39

Hi everyone

Loopy - sorry about the funeral, but nice that DD was a comfort.

Jet - sorry about your dad. Hope everything goes well with his recovery. Have a lovely birthday - you have certainly got the weather for it!

LOM - It might be easier if MIL comes to me, but then she'll end up at MIL's anyway as MIL will be wanting to do her own thing too.

Re pump and dump - i read (i think tiktok had a link somewhere) that you dont actually need to pump and dump as the alcohol doesn't filter through to breast milk! The only time there might be a risk is if you have a massive massive session and then the amount filtered through would be minimal and the only effect it would have on a baby is to make them slightly drowsy. Think you've pumped and dumped in vain, LOM! Oh and if your milk goes off, there's a way to you can stop it apparently. You have to "scorch" it first, which is basically putting it in a saucepan and bringing it to just under boiling and then take it off the heat. You should then be able to freeze it and it should be ok. I think Loopy was having the same problem with her milk.

I picked the cat up from teh vet yesterday and he was fairly normal, which was a good sign. Had to take him back for a check up this morning and things are deffo on the up as his bladder isn't as big so that hopefully means he's doing plenty of wees! Yay!

Have a good day everyone!

RG - Thanks for that info. I looked on Kellymom and it said there were some risks if you have more than one or two units a day. Dh and I tend to share a bottle of wine about 3 nights a week and I'm giving myself a complex about it.
I'd heard about scorching milk too. Dh knows lots about these things and says it will damage the proteins TBH I can't be arsed anyway, I just give him one bottle of formula a day. . Although saying that , I think I've got thrush in my boobs AGAIN which may just push me over the edge.
Cheeky question. Don't suppose you have series two of heroes??? The only things I want to watch all week are that and House and they are on the same time grrrrr. Sky plus and DVD recorders haven't hit this household yet.

Loopy. My mum keeps saying that too. LOL at you and your DH. We've only tried braless naughtiness once and hand a similar experience. When I'm feeding Dh looks sternly and Ds and tells him they are only on loan.
Enjoy the sun.

Loopy - I bet it's just a coincidence! That's what i reckon anyway. Hope you manage to get hot water very soon!!

LOM - Yes i do have Series 2 of Heroes lol. Give me a few days and i will burn them onto CD for you. I'll email you when they're ready because i'm not sure i still have your address.

I'm off to bed soon - soooo tired!! We went round PILs last night and as we have no travel cot, DD and I co-slept. I dont know how people do it full time because i just stayed in one position all night for fear of squashing her and kept waking up to check she was ok lol.

x

Rg You're a star. I know what you mean about co-sleeping; the only time I've done it, I've been in my dressing gown with T in his gro bag and absolutely no covers on the bed.
If you can relax about it though I bet it's lovely.

Loopy- Hope you've got your boiler sorted. Why don't these things ever happen in working hours ?

Just a quickie.

Loopy - the prognosis is pretty good. Apparently it's a cancer that goes into remission easily, but also tends to come back. The chemo is is in tablet form and doesn't result in hair loss or have many side effects really. Dad's appetite has actually increased!!

RG - the weather was perfect for our party, we had a lovely day. I've decided I quite like being 30!

William slept for 8 1/2 hours last night. I don't think I've have such good sleep for about a year!!

Loopy - glad your boiler is now fixed!

Jet - good news about the cancer. I'm glad you had a lovely day! It's when you get to 40 that things become scarey!!

Hi everyone- Just a quick one to say Anabel has started on solids. She was weighed on friday and is only 12 pounds despite being 22 weeks so she is back down to the 2nd %tile. I'm not too worried as she is fine and happy but was not sleeping as well as she had been so perhaps needed more food. She loves the baby rice and carrots and apples I have given her -not all together of course. Hopefully she will go back to sleeping better. work has been ok today very busy which is better.

RGPargy · 28/04/2008 15:08

Glad all is going well Febes!

Hello ladies,

I haven't been on for aaa-ages, but thought i would try the mammoth task to reading backwards and seeing what everyone has been up to.

Hope your cat is ok RG - i just read your other thread - it sounds like he is rallying which is brill. we had to have our lovely 20 yr old cat put to sleep a couple of mths ago which was very very hard and i was about it for ages -still am! i miss her!

Dd is wonderful - we haven't started her on solids yet although i have given her a suck at a banana twice this week and she seemed to love it. although it does mean that she now totally covets my food which is a bit disconcerting! think she will be a good eater like her mummy!!! She is sleeping well and weighed 15lbs10oz today - she was 20 weeks old yesterday - i can hardly believe it!

I am trying to find childcare for her now as it's not long till i have to go back to work which i am pretty miserable about. i'm trying desperately to find a job which isn't 70 miles away (! don't know how i managed that commute for 4 yrs) but it's proving extremely difficult. i hate the idea of someone else looking after her and getting all her 'first' things like sitting up on her own etc. boo hoo!

Dp and i have not been getting on well at all over the last few months. I think dd's arrival has actually been quite hard for him although he loves her dearly. i just don't seem to be able to communicate with him at all which is a bit crap. Never mind, fingers x'd it will get better. i just don't want it to get to the stage of dd being affected badly by it - i would rather go it alone than that.

Right - off to catch up!!

RGPargy · 29/04/2008 16:49

Umberella - still trying to figure out who you are!

Well, i'm now cutting down to alternate breast/bottle feeds as i'm going to stop BF. I've decided that i've just really had enough of it now and want to have a little bit of freedom back. BF is great for the middle of the night etc, but as i'm such a shy feeder, i do feel very restricted when i'm out in the day. I'm a little sad that i didn't make it to six months, but hey, she's had 5 months of mummy's best!!

I'm just assuming that alternate feeds is ok and is a good way to cut down on BF, but if anyone knows of any other ways, please feel free to say!

Oh and i lost 3.5lbs on my first week at Weight Witches!!!

Hope you are all well, have a good evening.
