ok, new thread, old one full!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
kiwibella · 19/01/2008 22:21

hahaha... tidy houses I'm a tad annoyed that our landlord told us we could have tidied the house for the photographs which the real estate agent took to list our place. Fucker... it was as spotless as it can be with four of us living on top of each other.

at your ds letting go of the buggy Diva... little bugger!! I hope that you are able to make the play therapy with your ds... I know that these things can seem pointless but, from my experience mentoring children, I must stress how important it is for you and your ds. Kids get so much out of having their parents at school with them and having their undivided attention.

Glad that work is ok Mossy and Bertie has enjoyed his time with his Nan.

Kitty at asking for sweeties. I recently discovered a piccie of MissE eating a lil box of m&m's at 15 months. It explains sooo much!!

Kate has a few recognisable words. When she is playing, gabbles away to herself non-stop. She loves music too and sings along in her own way.

kittywise · 19/01/2008 22:49

Diva, dp and I now spend 10 mins or so with each of the three older children every evening discussing their day, how the're feeling, any probs etc.
It's so important to give them the undivided attention, make them feel that they are listened to and not judged, no matter what they have to say.

Kiwi I would have been mad at that too. Are you planning on moving then? Why are photos being taken?

Lunar, I haven't bothered with naming anything, call it 6th child and can't be arsed mother

bethoo · 20/01/2008 00:13

Lunar - flipping heck at your los vocab! i think Hayden is tryign to say cat! he squeels when he sees them and tries to follow them even looking under bed for them!
Kitty - be glad there are no teeth yet if yo are still bf there is nothing worse than having a baby clamped on adn you screaming let go!!!
Polar - looks liek Bertie may go straigtht to waling, he probably can crawl but chooses not too as maybe 'too undiginified'; for him!!
good evening to everyone else!!

ReverseThePolarity · 20/01/2008 09:32

Well, Bertie is sitting in his high chair devouring a burger. He makes noises like "um umn num mum num yum um" when he is eating something he particularly enjoys, so cute.

Bethoo Bertie can say "cat" too, although it's more like "kaaaaaaa!!!!!!" He can say "daaaaaaag!" too which I think is dog. I bloody hope he is saying what I think he is anyway and I'm not just being one of these Mums whose baby was talking at two months & walking at three months. (According to my Dad, I was out of nappies by 18 months and could read by two ) Do you think our babies will benefit from growing up surrounded by pets?

Right burger is gone now so will have to come back & reply to the rest later...

ReverseThePolarity · 20/01/2008 10:42

Kiwibella can't believe your landlord said that!! You should've said he was welcome to come round and tidy himself if it meant that much to him!

Rosy, Diva has the right idea imho, as long as the house isn't falling down it's fine. A little bit of dirt is good for immune systems and a little bit of mess is good for the soul.

But if the mess is really getting you down, how about you choose one room to keep tidy and pristine, like a "room for best"? Then when things get too much it can be your retreat!

Diva it still takes me about ten - fifteen mins to change Bertie's nappy especially now he is so wriggly!! But fair enough with her how rude of her to make a comment about noisy kids... doesn't she know that's what kids do? She will get the shock of her life when her baby grows up and starts making noise!!

Kitty I think Ronnie will learn pretty fast whether or not you name things for him, as he's five older siblings to compete against!!

Right, good morning to everyone else, I am off to bathe and then if Bertie hasn't woken up, walk the doggies.

Rosylily · 20/01/2008 11:26

Well I've worked out now exactly what I need...
a fulltime cleaner
a chef
a masseuse
a personal trainer
a nanny
Now all I need to do is work out how to pay for it all and I'm sorted!

Divastrop · 20/01/2008 12:13

bella-i want to do the play therapy with him but i dont want to do it at the same time as the CBT,as i would have one thing on a tuesday and the other on a thursday and i dont think i could cope with that.if i knew the CBT group was defo going to re start soon then i would ask to do the play therapy in september, but as it satnds i am in limbo and dont have a clue.

kitty-i suppose i should really spend time with ds1 every day,its very hard work with gob almightly around though.i always sit and chat with ds2 for 10 mins or so when i put him to bed,and dd1 does yoga with me on the evenings so we have girly chats while doing that, but i never seem to get a chance to speak to ds1.i had to email him to ask what he wanted for his birthday(the only way dd1 wouldnt stick her nose in).

rosy-i have always said if i won the lottery the first thing id do would be hire a chef.i wouldnt get a cleaner, though,i would rather pay someone to look after the lo's while i clean.

mossy-i wouldnt mind but nobody was shouting,i was just firmly telling ds2 not to look under the toilet doors!

bethoo · 20/01/2008 12:51

Polar - yes i do beleive that having animals at an early age. have you ever met those kids who scream and hide/run when they see a four legged being?? and trying ot convince them tht your dog will not maul them is a nightmare!! but seriously the benefits:

  1. Reduces allergies, builds their immunities up. though cats can cause allergies it is a proven fact that dogs can reduce allergies. adn we all know tht stroking an animal reduces stress!
  2. it gets children to appreciate animals (personally think yo miss out on alot if you do not). it teaches children responsiblity, and respect for animals and how to treat them. you can tell the kids who have pets and the ones who dont.

but then that is my personal opinion though it has been scientifically proven to have health benefits.

ReverseThePolarity · 20/01/2008 15:21

Can anyone help me here?

bethoo · 20/01/2008 15:36

Polar - ideally yuo should go to the landlord as it is their responsibility. if you do it yurself if you keep all the bills you may be able to get redunded. i think if you go through the letting agency and tell them it is urgent and bend the truth a bit by saying baby is already in there and it is a H&S issue! they willthen get in touch with landlord and get it sorted, they have to by law.

muppetisacat · 20/01/2008 17:34

went with dd and ds1 watch the golden compass this arvo - very funny how they skirt round the anti-church issue... has anyone else seen it?

Divastrop · 20/01/2008 17:46

Divastrop · 20/01/2008 17:49

dd2 came in and hijacked the keyboard

mossy-i had a look at your thread but i dont know about such things as i have also always rented/been with council/HA.
i know my mum got a government grant to get a whole new roof back in the 80's but i dont know why

muppet-ive not heard of that film?

muppetisacat · 20/01/2008 18:00

Diva - it's the film of the book "Northern LIghts" by philip pullman - first part of a trilogy - really good set of stories i always thought and plagierized i've always thought by JK Rowling!!!
(sorry Rosy)

spicemonster · 20/01/2008 18:31

Was the film good muppet? I couldn't get into the book.

Hello all. We have colds and I've been sleeping whenever Elliot does all weekend. Very dull. Haven't left the house so you know I'm not well because I've not gone totally stir crazy

Sorry to hear some of you are struggling. At the risk of sounding like a stuck record, I find it hard with just my one DS, I really don't think I could cope with being a SAHM with lots of kids at all, I'd lose the plot. I take my hat off to you. I don't think anyone realises how hard being a mum is until you do it. And not just do it for a week (like those stupid telly programmes) but week in, week out.

Rant over - hope we all have a better week

Rosylily · 20/01/2008 20:30

Muppet I love, love, love the dark materials, I'm all ready to reread them.

evenhope · 20/01/2008 21:03

I'm really of all these speaking babies! Mine said something that sounded like hello to DD1 last week and the same sound tonight to DS3. Otherwise it's just babbling sounds.

DD is still coughing and rolling about all night so I'm getting no sleep.

Diva which side is your pain on? I've had a horrible pain low down on the left for several days now that comes and goes. DH said I should see the doctor but I've detailed our problems with appointments.

Well we are probably quite mad but we have finally booked our flights to NZ. My two cousins are getting married out there on 29 Feb and 8 March and I really wanted to go. Can we cope with little miss armadillo on a plane for 30 hours I wonder

muppetisacat · 20/01/2008 21:58

Evenhope - it will be great when you get there! I was trying to go to Oz last summer but we never got organised and dh was less than convinced... am trying to go this summer now... we will see. Sure Piff will tell you to go!!! and Kiwi!!!

Rosy - have you seen the film then? I did enjoy it but they did monkey about with the story slightly which always irks me Nicole Kidman was VERY good as Mrs Coulter. I will look forward to seeing what they do with The subtle knife...

... sorry to all of you who don't know what the hell i'm talking about

ReverseThePolarity · 21/01/2008 08:26

Muppet I'm a huge HDM fan so can't wait to see the film.... so shurrup and stop telling me about it!!

Bethoo the problem is just that the house isn't rented... in the old days when we rented the Landlord/lady took care of everything, now we have to deal with situations like this ourselves!!

Spice you've a lot on your plate with there being just one of you to look after E & to look after everything else too.... I think you do amazingly well.

Evenhope maybe you are mad but I am .... wow! Are you looking forward?

Morning to everyone else. I'm actually typing this from in work. However I officially start for the day in four mins so I'd better get off now!! It's one of the few sites that aren't barred (public sector eh?) which means that Facebook and email are hometime only activities!!

muppetisacat · 21/01/2008 10:16

polar

Piffle · 21/01/2008 11:59

evenhope take me and I will be your nanny on the way over

Mossy sorry about your roof ARRGHH it is always one thing after another. No help though as luckily have led sheltered life about leaking roofs thus far (touches wood)

rosy you feeling any perkier honey?

Had to get dd dropped off to school and picked up today, back/leg so bad. DP bought me TENS machine which has helped a bit but Finn keeps hauling at it so impractical when he is awake - and seeing as he is whingy teething clingy boy, sleep seems like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow...
I need to lie down!!!

He was bugger last night too, v hard to settle (not like him) and bf has gone tits up as I think it hurts him to suck atm. Gave him nurofen at 11pm and that helped HUGELY.

Right must go simply cannot sit... and boy wonder is ... yep whinging again

kiwibella · 21/01/2008 13:17

good on you Evenhope!! Where abouts in NZ are you travelling too? My lil sis will be on her way back from Wellywood tomorrow after two weeks home and has loved it. They are having a brilliant summer this year.

I wouldn't worry too much on the plane. I took Kate to Oz in June and think that I panicked more than was necessary. Phone the airline in advance and tell them what you will need - especially if you would like to request a cot. These seats also give you a little more leg room so space on the floor for lo to play. There are change tables in the toilets. The airlines also have a larger allowance for hand luggage

Mossy ... I have nightmares about owning a place and having to pay for repairs

Piffle... sorry that you are so poorly!! Finn too... it's awful for these likkle ones.

Kitty... our landlord has put this flat on the market. After paying his mortgage for the last few years he is going to take an amazing profit. We have known that this was the plan and bricking it about moving - with house prices atm we can't afford to buy and the rent around here is phenomenal . However, once sold, we will get three months notice so prefer to put up with the annoyance of visitors and pay a pittance.

His comment was unnecessary but being such a hedonistic fairy he thinks that we are living in cramped conditions. The house was tidy when the agents came and it will be for viewings... it's just that we have accummulated so much crap stuff. I can't believe that we arrived with one suitcase each!!

Another whingey, clingy baby here today. I've finally got her to sleep and glad that I can get out of my pjs .

Rosylily · 21/01/2008 13:22

Muppet, I haven't seen it yet, waiting for the dvd to come out. The trailer looks great. Maybe I should see the film before rereading the books.
I saw memoirs of a Geisha after reading the book last summer and enjoyed it. I just try to see the film as something separate because there is never time to include all the details.
I reckon HDM films may be swayed by the american market....anyway I shall say no more in case Reverssy shouts at me too

Piffle I am much perkier today thank you. Was at the doctor this morning for an MOT they took loads of blood to check my iron, thyroid and I don't know what else.
The doctor suggests that I should go on some betablockers to try and prevent all the migraines.
She looked up something that is compatable with BF but I am still not keen.
I was struggling for three days last week with my head/stomach/eyes and apparently depression after a migraine is common. Which would explain how low I got aswell.
I might look up migraine threads on mn.

Evenhope I watched Billy Connoly driving round NZ on the telly recently, gobsmackingly beautifull! But I'm not jealous because I don't want to go anywhere at the moment!

muppetisacat · 21/01/2008 13:48

Rosy - well done for getting yourself checked out... hope you can resolve the headaches and migraines are not something you want to have regularly... if ever i get one it wipes me out the next day so no wonder you've been feeling low.
Hope you get something sorted to perk you up. Perhaps rereading HDM could be a welcome bit of escapism

Piffle · 21/01/2008 14:25

Hope something shows up Rosy that is easy to correct, perhaps iron or something?

You do have a lot on your plate I know.
Lack of you time for one...
