It's all gone now Bloss, started to rain yesterday{sad] so it's been pissing down and freezing brrrr.

DH is off for a week starting tomorrow yeehah. He can do the nursery runs etc.Make life a bit easier for me lol!!

We have decided to get the dd's bedroom organised soon. Dd1 goes to bed really well and sleeps all night so gonna get a bed for dd2 and get her in there for the summer. No money atm for anything as we need to finish the downstairs loo, flooring etc. I am still bfing dds once in the morning and after her bath before bed and occasionally when i get into bed if she wakes so will be easier to get her in her own bed(i hope)

Is anyone else still bfing/co-sleeping? Bet it's only me

Morning all.

More drama with the eczema: DH's mam sent him this thing about a Chinese herbal thingy so of course DH thought that must be the solution to all our problems. Anyway we went to one yesterday and they told us to stop giving her milk and all dairy products, and they gave us this mixture of herbs to make a tea, and if she wouldn't drink it, to dab it on her skin. And this ginseng cream as well to put on after.
So I brewed it up, it was like tar. Anyway, gave her a bath, dabbed it on, put on the cream, and already she was looking a bit redder than usual. All night long she was scratching scratching scratching. We must have got about 8 seconds sleep. This morning she was more or less red raw. So I'm on the phone to them now, but 'I not speak ingleesh, call back soon'. Bastards. We got her soya milk as well, which she drank a bit of, but not during the night, she had to have to normal milk. So I dunno. Back to the steroids this morning, as it was looking weepy on her face. Even though I know they're not good, you can see her skin is thinning already.

So fuck me I don't know what to do. My sister recommended a cream she used for her DS, so I might try that next.

Spin, poor Chi, hope he settles soon. LOL at Roshi's incident though. One box at a time eh?

Algach, good to hear from you! Not bf-ing either, but co-sleeping still. Though sleeping is exaggerating a bit. Lying there trying to stop her hacking herself to bits more like. Wish I could get a cleaner !!

Pixel, know exactly what you mean about the toddlerdom !!! K loves dancing too, usually naked, and often round the pole holding up the kitchen breakfast bar...

Hi UsandNoSleep!!! Welcome back good to hear from you too. Good luck with those tests, let us know how it goes.

HC, hope things are looking up there! {{HUG}}

Best go, ladies, hi to everyone else from Sunny But Cold London

Hi Annie
Poor wee Kayley (and you), that sounds nightmarish.

If you do decide to try cutting down on dairy, in case it's helpful this is a list of Emma's fave foods, she lives pretty much on these now: fish fingers (Youngs are dairy free, Birds Eye do have milk in but not a lot I think), tinned tuna in oil, most types of meat cut up (chicken, mince, ham etc), potatoes, peas, sweetcorn, tomatoes, avocadoes, hummus, taramasalata, calcium fortified rice milk / soya milk for cereal or occasionally warmed in a bottle, weetabix/porridge, Hipp Organic 7 month+ jars (there are about 7 dairy free ones - you can 'add' to them to make up full meals as they are quite small), soya yoghurts, fruit, raisins, rice cakes, Organix snacks.

She has one bottle in the morning of 2.5oz soya formula and 2.5oz Nutramigen (hydrolysed formula). Occasionally she'll have soya or rice milk warmed in a bottle in the afternoon, though she's dropping this now.

'Raw' cow's milk is supposed to be the hardest to digest / more likely to cause reactions than cooked cows milk products or cheese or normal formula milk.

If you do try it, it may be worth not going too mad with substituting soya at first though, as this can sometimes cause problems as well (though Emma's okay with it).

Sorry - have gone on a bit here!

PixelHerder · 04/02/2008 11:59

oh forgot bread, pasta and eggs (she's a granary toast fiend), and olive oil's useful for putting on bread instead of butter (though you can get dairy free spread, I don't bother though)

MaeWest · 04/02/2008 13:29

Hey usandnosleep - glad Zack is doing well, hope you get the sign off from the paed soon

algach - still bf here, technically twice a day, but at the moment who knows . I think I'm partly hoping that I'll get pg and he'll just magically self-wean, but he is still pretty keen. We were co-sleeping after the first waking of the night, but then he wasn't sleeping in our bed, lots of bouncing on heads, hair pulling, nose poking etc. So I got a bit tough and now I can generally get him to settle back in his cotbed with a bit of a cuddle and a shush.

Annie - I'm lentil-weavery as they come, but I'd prob steer clear of the herbal stuff - poor K . Sounds like dairy-free might be worth investigating tho?

TheGoddessBlossom · 04/02/2008 14:00

oh poor kayley and poor you Annie. How frustrating to see her scratching herself bloosy and not be able to help her. Hugs x 1000. And no sleep to boot, even more hugs.

Toby got the puke poo bug yesterday, lots of HORRENDOUS nappies that soaked up his vest and down his troos, smeeling of vile egg, nearly made me puke. He vommed his brekkie and then a whole bottle of water later no, although I was laughing as I cleaned it up, mainly at Harry's look of total HORROR and then at TOby's nonchalant pose as he stood there watching me, head cocked on one side and one had in his pocket. Then he said "JOOSJOOSJOOS".

DH was fishing all day, surprise, so H, T and I cuddled up on the sofa all afternoon and watched Over the Hedge - twice. We'd had friends over all morning (Which was fun as I tried to mop up Toby's explosions) and we'd had the pens, playdoh and eery single toy out, so we just sat and vergged, Toby was so quiet and cuddly, it was very relaxing. Took him to nursery this morning as he'd been fine all night, and needless to say got the call about 12.15 saying he'd just puked so he is in bed and I am at home.

Not sure what I am going to do if he can't go to nursery tomorrow, got a meeting in Sutton I've already moved once.... Oh the joys.

Pixel, you've reminded me that T likes Avocados, gonna buy some (for when he has stopped puking that is, god, imagine!)

home today with poo boy. Reading "How to talk so your kids will listen..." - it's actually very helpful. Already implementing it with H, despite DH's scoffing.

PixelHerder · 05/02/2008 08:21

Morning Girls

Hi Agalch - bloody good idea re the cleaner I reckon, that?s a long working day you have, plus your own children to look after. re the parents, keep positive!

Hi Wallace

Spin - re the poo in bath, Emma hasn?t done that yet (but then she rarely has baths as she hates them so much). Kwym about the size of poos in nappies though, they really do seem adult sized don?t they?

HC - how?s things going?

Bloss - hope Toby recovers soon, sounds v messy, urgh. How is he in himself now? I must start reading toddler books, thanks for the recommendation. When I got pg I had a mountain of books about 2 feet high (not kidding) beside my bed on ?how to be pregnant? as I knew nothing at all about it. I also got lots of ?how to look after a baby? books, but I guess she?s not a baby any more (and I haven?t had time to read anything anyway).

Emma?s got a horrible hacking cough at the mo, mainly at night, which isn?t like her at all. Any recommendations for infant cough stuff? Or is it best just to let it ride itself out?

She?s at ?new nursery? now, cried when I left her yesterday - but then she cries when she drops a brick on the floor so I guess you can?t read too much into it Apparently she was okay when I left.

Hi to everyone, have good days xxx

Beadmum · 05/02/2008 09:08

annie - poor kayley , hope something works soon

bloss - hope toby is better soon, book sounds interesting, let us know if it works

spin - at poo story

pixel - im sure emma will settle just fine

house hunting like crazy here, been to view 4 houses now, havent fallen in love with any which is just as well as cant go for anything yet as need to wait til bathroom installed in few weeks to get flat on the market. Its frustrating waiting for things to be done. Feel like my mind is whirring with it all constantly.

Charlotte is starting to show signs of tantrums quite often now, likes to throw herself down and cry, doing the ignoring method, seems to be working, guess theres no way to cut them out altogether, oh well heres to the terrible twos

Have a lovely day ladies, v.rainy here
xx

Beadmum · 05/02/2008 09:12

pixel - sorry missed out the bit about emmas cough, i used tixylix for charlotte but that was when she was much younger so was the baby syrup, helped a lot. So i would imagine the other tixylix would be good too, hope its better soon

TheGoddessBlossom · 05/02/2008 10:38

apparently despite the multitude of different cough remedies out there, and I have bought every single one in the past, the best thing for any child's cough is honey in warm water.

Book is great - replaces:

Harry - "But I want RED JAM ON MY TOAST MUMMY! WAH WAH WAH"
Me - "Well we haven't got any have we, like I've told you 8 times so it's marmalade or nothing I'm afraid"

with:

Harry - "But I want RED JAM..." etc
Me - "I know you do. Gosh it's such a shame we don't have any. You must be really disappointed sweetie, especially as it's your absolute fave isn't it? Let's wave this spoon together like a magic wand and turn this yummy marmalade into red jam, you see if we can do it"

Not a particularly good example, but one that worked really well this morning. Need to practice it on scenarios that involve more regular spats like the two boys fighting over toys or him not doing as I ask like stand up and get out of the bath, so it needs some work....

Toby seems absolutely fine in himself today, and is playing like an absolutel dream all my himself and letting me Mumsnet work. {grin]

Morning all

Have been busy painting all morning. I am on some high days, only have 3 AD's left so with 1/2 every other day that is only 2 weeks left.

Annie-poor Kayley. Stick to the creams that you know and ignore annoying people! How is she now?

Bloss-sorry Toby has a sicky bug. They really are the worst of illnesses IMO. Do you have to make your time up at work? Sounds a great book by BTW. Think it would save me telling Emma 'I have told you 100 times that................What part of no don't you understand? You are doing my head in!'

Pixel-Sophie has the same hacking chesty cough. It is very bad at night when she lays down. But Sophie being the way she is never complains and manages a beaming smile when I go and check on her.

Beadmum-good luck with the house hunting. Think that would really stress me out-would have to dose up on AD's if I ever had to move house. Better stay in this one.

spin-hope Chi settles soon. Perhaps it will take time as moving countries is a massive upheaval. Lol at the poo story-Emma only did it once, Sophie has managed 3 times but they are always dainty little bobbles.

agalch-good for you getting a cleaner. I would love to have some help (a gardener would be my priority). You are so busy all the time and seem to function really well. See you are still having disagreements with your parents-not so good.

Lysettes-you OK? How many weeks now? So very exciting.

Hi Wallace, kbaby, Ceebee and usandnosleep. Oh, and Maewest-done any hurdling lately?

Sunny day here in Lincolnshire. Better go before my essay turns into a novel.

Hello Ladies,

A better night last night, though still lots of scratching. 8 seconds sleep turned into about 4 broken hours, so much better

She's a bit better today. I got on to them again yesterday on the phone, and they told me to stop using the cream but keep using the tea stuff, and that because it's 'inside her' it has to come out before it can get better. And to get some Vitamin E capsules, pop them and squeeze them on her to moisturize. So I did. This morning, she's still very bad, but it looks as though it's healing, as in it's a bit scabby. She wouldn't take the soya milk either, so I think we have to introduce it slowly.
Did I mention we got an allergy test done as well? The same day, they took a chunk of her hair, and the results should be back in about 2 weeks. But they seemed to insist that she have no milk, as that's nearly always one of the things that comes back allergic.
So, maybe, just maybe, it might work. Eventually.

Thanks for all your tips and kind words by the way.
Pixel that list of food will be very useful thank you. She eats much of what's on there anyway, though in very small quantities, but as you say, her main thing is still the raw cow's milk. Hope Emma's cough gets better soon. I think all the remedies are more or less the same, tbh, we've only ever used Tixylix.

Mae, thanks, I'm easily convinced on things. I tend to believe everything people tell me, so for now we're going to give this tea stuff a go, as they said it has to 'come out of her' first. If that's airy fairy, then I will soon know, if it's not hugely improved by tomorrow, that's the end of it.

Bloss I hope poor Tobes is better soon. I hate it when they're ill. Sounds like an excellent way of dealing with the non-jam situation!!! I read somewhere that you should never say NO to your child, eg, Can I have some chocolate please, instead of No, you can't, it'll make you fat/rot your teeth (), you say, yes you can have some when you earn enough money to buy it, or something like that (crap example!). Plus it gives them a reason why they can't have something, rather than just NO.

Spin, thanks, yes, homeopathy is on the list!! It's about fifth at the mo!! Everyone has a different remedy, that's why it's so hard to find the right one.

Beadmum, I love nosing around people's houses!! Enjoy it, and soon you will find one you want.

Hi HC, you'll get through it, missus. We'll help you!

Hi everyone else. What's on your pancakes tonight?!?!

x

AnnieOleTing · 05/02/2008 14:12

Mind you, I tend to say NO a lot. Mostly to DH though...

TheGoddessBlossom · 05/02/2008 14:16

bugger is it pancakes tonight? What do I need? [panic]

AnnieOleTing · 05/02/2008 14:18

Not having pancakes-put on 1/2 lb last night. Too much Blossom Hill. The girls will have them at MIL's with DH.

MaeWest · 05/02/2008 15:48

No hurdling (well maybe a little last night, it's a bit of a blur) just BLOODY TORTURE. The current pattern is that DS will go to sleep beyootifully all by himself in his cot at 7pm, sleep blissfully and quietly until midnight and then be up every 30 mins or so (just when I've managed to drop off) until 4am, when he might deign to sleep until 6am, or 5.20 as it was this morning.

I'm haggard how do I think I could cope with another one? And I do all the things the books say, and I've stopped offering the boob in the night, bedtime routine my arse etc etc

I feel so inadequate

ImpyChica · 05/02/2008 15:55

Hi everyone.

Snap with Bloss (hope Tobes gets better soon, poor lamb) - am off looking after feverish, poorly boy (and got a stomach bug myself so it's a pretty sickly household!) Feel bad as it's only my second full day at the new job - but they're v understanding about it (unlike my old boss who was cross at my old colleague taking time off to look after her sick daughter yesterday and said people with pets weren't allowed time off to look after them when they were sick....! wtf!!!! So glad I'm out of there!)

Hi Us. Zack sounds lovely!

LOL at James and his potbelly Kbaby!

Are the girls reaching the Terrible Twos before the boys? (would figure as girls are way more advanced than boys at most things ;-) Ry has the odd tantrum but nothing major - famous last words of course...! The worst he does is constantly scratching/hitting me in some misguided display of affection got scratches all over my face/neck at the mo... Emma sounds v entertaining though, Pixel! Agree with Bloss about the honey - Ry has had billions of coughs and honey is the only thing I don't mind giving him - antibiotics never seem to work and neither do cough medicine....

Hi Algach. Sorry about your parents upsetting you again. The positive side of all this is that it's taught you not to show any favourtisim to any of yours - it's obvious you shower loads of love over all your kids equally And well done for still b-fing!

Sending energy vibes to you spin. Must be exhausting - but least the end's in sight and unpacking's more fun than packing in the first place, I guess! Sorry Chi's a bit unsettled - it'll be worth it for the quality of life improvement in the end - he'll thank you for it one day, I'm sure! Then having just read about the constant rain you've been having, I'll take that back !

Sorry about the eczema, Annie - sounds awful... poor Kayley, love. I think it's worth cutting out the dairy - have often heard the link between the two...

Good luck house-hunting Bead!

Hope the high days keep up HC

Had my leaving do from my old job last Fri - wicked time but had too many margaritas and struggled the next day! Everyone was so sweet - bought me an Amazon voucher, mocked up card of me next to Johnny Depp (swoon) and also mocked up a funny www.hellomagazine.com web page of my life! Glad I won't be too far away from most of my old colleagues (except my boss of course!) They are lovely....

Well, better tend to the boy who only wants to eat baby wipes today....

Hugs to all

Impy xxx
