@CherLW don't know how true it is but apparently the infancol takes a few days to help properly so hopefully the longer we use it the more it'll help them out

Noodles4Me · 21/09/2021 17:47

@Scotti84 we've had all 7 cousins over, aged from 18 years to 19 months. All saw him before 21 days.

I've had covid so in theory my boy should have my immunity, and also from the colostrum (if any of the breastfeeding info is true).

The more the babies meet people, the more they build immunity. I guess you just have to trust your gut. Anyone with any cold symptoms stays away etc...

CherLW · 21/09/2021 17:56

@KHR1 I’ve read that too, hopefully over the next few days we will see some improvements for the babies 🤞🏼. He definitely seems calmer so im hopeful

crobo87 · 21/09/2021 19:34

How often is everyone seeing their health visitor?
I don't particularly want to see mine more lol but I thought you saw them more often than mine wants to see us.
We saw her on day 12 (I was still under midwife till day 10) and don't have another appointment until mid October.
She has asked to see him early October just to weigh him again as he's small. Can't really remember how much we saw the HV when my others were small.

SillyBry · 21/09/2021 20:52

@crobo87 I’ve barely seen anyone since having Rosie!
Her NIPE checks were cancelled and rebooked for 2 days later. The midwife who was supposed to visit on day 1 ran out of time and rang me to check I was ok.
I had a feeding consultation, which surprise surprise, was over the phone!
Our 5 day check was face to face… and our 10 day check should’ve been today, but was pushed back to tomorrow!
They keep telling me that it’s because everything is good and I’m low risk, but man I’m glad it’s not my first as I’d be so lost.
Allegedly the health visitor should visit this week (before day 14), but I’ve not heard a thing. I kind of think they’ll end up cancelling too! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

SillyBry · 21/09/2021 20:57

How is everyone finding their feeding? I’ve been terrible overnight - I keep falling asleep feeding, which is NOT ideal! But we’ve had a couple of nights with a 3-4 hour stretch of sleep, which is amazing! It just takes so long at the moment as she would quite like to fall asleep after 1 boob and then wake up 45 mins later ready for boob 2… or just a bit colicky/struggling to settle quickly after a feed. But in reality, we’re very lucky, she’s pretty easy going so far!

AdventuresAwait · 21/09/2021 21:20

@crobo87, we saw the Health Visitor on day 13 at home. Then we see her again early October for baby's six week check. After that, we see her at 10 months! Xx

crobo87 · 21/09/2021 21:38

@AdventuresAwait sounds similar to me then. I'm sure I saw them more with my others but that's 11 years ago lol!

KHR1 · 21/09/2021 22:36

Soinds like we've been quite lucky with visits so far. Weve had face to face midwife visits on the first day home (2), then says 3, 5, 10 and will be having an extra one on day 14 as Zach is jaundiced. Then health visitor os coming tomorrow. Not sure how often she will come though!

SillyBry · 21/09/2021 22:45

@KHR1 that is what I’m supposed to have… but because I’ve had a baby before and an “easy” delivery, I’m the first to drop off the list.
Rosie had a bili test (at my request) at her NIPE Check as she was really yellow and my first was readmitted with jaundice. Luckily she was under the treatment line, so we were allowed home snd told to feed, feed, feed and I can see a marked improvement. But we weren’t even given a follow up for it… just the assumption we should shout if we have an issue!
I understand they are overrun and busy, but I’d hate to have so little contact if this was my first baby!

AdventuresAwait · 21/09/2021 23:14

@KHR1 @crobo87, we also had midwife visits. Phone call on day 3 (after first night at home) and then home visits day 4 & 5. Baby was slightly jaundiced so had checks on day 8, 11 & 15 so we knew it the levels were coming down (no treatment was needed). Discharged on day 15 from midwife so care overlapped with the health visitor by a couple of days.

crobo87 · 21/09/2021 23:24

I only saw midwife at home once but that's because we were in hospital for 8 days after birth.
Tbf the health visitor was lovely and said I can call anytime but didn't want to teach me to 'suck eggs' as I have 2 other children already.
I think I just assumed he'd be weighed more as he was small and classed as premature as he was born an hour before he turned 37 weeks 😂😂

heygirlhey · 22/09/2021 01:51

Our little girl Ava arrived on the 18th weighing 6lb on the dot☺️ Just getting settled in.

KHR1 · 22/09/2021 07:53

@SillyBry it's rubbish that they aren't doing a follow up to check. Zach's jaundice had gone down loads by 10 so was surprised they are coming back to check (second baby too) but it's crap that not everyone is getting the same support.

@AdventuresAwait sounds like you've been quite lucky with the visits, like me. Shame all areas don't have the same level of support.

Congratulations @heygirlhey

Kirky658 · 22/09/2021 20:40

I've had 4 health visitor appts so far but mostly to monitor me rather than Alice.

She's had her 6 week check today and I mentioned I'd found a lump on her head base of her skull, doc thinks she has a cyst but is sending for ultrasound to be sure. She is also pretty certain she has reflux so is prescribing us infant Gaviscon and we have to hold her upright for 30 mins post feeding.

Oh and she just headbutted me and has given me a fat lip. 😩

SillyBry · 22/09/2021 21:53

@Kirky658 ouch on the fat lip!
Picking up the reflux/giving gaviscon should make the world of difference for you! I’d imagine that will make your life a lot easier when she gets established.

We got signed off from the midwives today on day 11. Rosie is now 9lb6oz, so 7oz heavier than when she was born. I must have been a dairy cow in a previous life 🤣
And after my cynicism about the health visitor, she’s coming in person to see me tomorrow.

I also feel a massive achievement… I wore jeans with a zip today!! Not maternity jeans… it was SO exciting! I mean my tummy was flopping over it, but it’s progress 🤣

Kirky658 · 23/09/2021 13:43

@sillybry yay to the jeans!!! Lol.

I've officially been diagnosed with PND by my gp today so I am on antidepressants now 😞

MrsMcNtobe · 23/09/2021 21:29

Hey ladies, congrats on new arrivals! Not sure if I’m being a bit hasty but Niamh had a dirty nappy around 6pm last night and no more since, plenty of wet nappies though. Would you say this is normal? I know it’s only just been over 24 hours but I’m worried. She’s feeding and burping fine but I’m just worried there’s been no poo x

Mamabearwhere · 23/09/2021 22:30

@Kirky658 well done for reaching out and telling your GP how you feel. The sooner you get help the sooner you will recover so you’re heading in the right direction xx

@MrsMcNtobe it’s funny I was just changing my little man’s nappy and realised his last poo was yesterday afternoon and had the same thought. Then I remembered my eldest would go days (once even 2 weeks) without a poo and the doctors weren’t concerned. Especially if you’re BFeeding. As long as they have wet nappies then they’re ok.

MrsMcNtobe · 23/09/2021 22:33

@Mamabearwhere just after I posted that Niamh was soo unsettled and absolutely screaming, (she’s been a bit grumpy all day) so I picked her up and she vomited from literally every little hole all over me and I just sat and sobbed covered in it 😂 other half came and saved me and changed her and she had done a massive dirty nappy and now she’s absolutely fine. 100% my most stressful parenting moment so far. Not sure if her little tummy was just a bit sore

bewitchingnight · 23/09/2021 23:01

@MrsMcNtobe midwives so far have referred us twice to a&e because little miss doesn't poo - to put your mind at rest the paediatricians said as long as there are plenty of wet nappies and baby seems otherwise well up to 10 days can be normal (if breastfed). Luckily mine also went today - after an 8 day wait!

@Kirky658 you've been through so much, I hope the GP was supportive and that things start looking a bit brighter soon. You're doing an amazing job Thanks

FTEngineerM · 24/09/2021 02:28

Heeeeeeyyyy
Finally I can join you 😍
Dylan was born yesterday 8lb 10oz after a caesarean, what an experience 😬 it was done with epidural instead of spinal. I’m in agony, can anyone who has had one already tell me how long it lasts? I can get up and love about and pick him up so I’m pretty mobile but damn it hurts.

Newmum110 · 24/09/2021 03:11

@FTEngineerM I had a section last Friday evening & felt terrible until Sunday afternoon. Try & get a snooze in if you can because the lack of sleep really didn't help me. Was up & down like a yoyo looking after baby but that had to be done too. Once it passes you will forget how bad the first day was.

FTEngineerM · 24/09/2021 03:32

@Newmum110 oh good I suppose that’s not that long really. Glad you’re feeling better now, I’ve never had an operation before so this is new. Paracetamol and ibuprofen is keeping it at bay atm. No chance of rest though he loves a snuggle 😂 and we just had our first poosplosion 🙈

MrsTD88 · 24/09/2021 04:42

@FTEngineerM with my first (5 years ago) I was up and about quite quickly after surgery but this time has been tougher. I lost a lot more blood and have extra internal stitches due to my old scar on my womb rupturing in theatre. I had my section on Monday and feeling relatively okay now other than an irritating cough which is making me yelp in pain!

I had terrible post op gas on Tuesday night and ending up projectile vomiting all over my living room and kitchen as I couldn't get up quick enough to get to the bathroom 🙈 I phoned the GP and they prescribed anti sickness which has worked a treat. I am taking iron, lactulose, blood thinner injections, paracetamol, dihydrocodeine and now anti sickness at various different times. Finding keeping on top of all those a pain but I am taking much less pain relief now and managed a bowel movement yesterday without crying (tmi but YAY!).

Try and rest as much as you can and focus solely on yourself and baby. It does get better, those first few days are the toughest but they're over quickly.
