Thanks @AdventuresAwait I hope Hettie goes through it ok. I definitely think finding out as much as you can about their development and what they are going through gives such a good understanding and helps with how you can help them. Xx

@Kirky658 that’s good news that Alice is out the other side. I hope you’re both doing ok xx

Scotti84 · 08/10/2021 15:45

@AdventuresAwait thank you for mentioning that app, just got it. Lilly is out of leap one today, shoulda had it a few days ago! Its good to know and understand what shes going through. What did people do before Apps and forums etc?!

AdventuresAwait · 08/10/2021 17:23

I know @Scotti84... the apps and this forum have been invaluable to me. Glad you find the app useful. It's interesting that it goes by due date and not birth date but friends say it's accurate!

KHR1 · 08/10/2021 21:42

Finally caught up with the thread!

@Sophieandtiger Zach grunts a lot too, not always a clear reasons why but he can do it for ages, usually after his 5-6am feed. Doesn't help that he suddenly seems to get really snotty at this time too which then gets him really worked up.

Has anyone found anything good for clearing up their nose? Ive got one of those nasal aspirators and some snuffle babe drops but neither seem to help for more than 5 minutes

AdventuresAwait · 08/10/2021 22:57

I've been wondering the same @KHR1. We also have an aspirator and nasal drops but would love to know if there's anything else that would help.

Squibble84 · 09/10/2021 12:37

@KHR1 I use saline drops but the spray one which shoots it up their nose. Always makes him sneeze the snot out!

AdventuresAwait · 09/10/2021 13:51

Oooh I haven't seen that @Squibble84. Where did you get it from? Xx

Squibble84 · 09/10/2021 15:28

@AdventuresAwait it’s the calpol saline nasal spray - I just got it in boots. I’ll try link it below!

www.boots.com/calpol-soothe-and-care-saline-nasal-spray-15ml-10097250

AdventuresAwait · 09/10/2021 15:52

Thank you @Squibble84! I've got the calpol drops version but they didn't have a spray in the Boots by me. It's a small Boots so I'll look when I next go into town as I might find that easier to use. Thanks!

KHR1 · 09/10/2021 19:45

Thanks @Squibble84 the spray sounds way better than the drops as I can't tell if anything has come out and parent squeeze too hard incase I put too much in

Newmum110 · 09/10/2021 22:15

Can I ask anyone who had a section how long they were told to wear the compression socks for? I was told 6 weeks & don't want to take any risks but they are such a pain!!!!! Did the injections for 7 days so I thought that would cover me for blood clots?
Also anyone return to driving before the 6 weeks were up?
Has an emergency csection so hadn't a lot of research done in advance!!!!

Bubbles1st · 09/10/2021 22:56

@Newmum110 I was told 6 weeks for socks and injections but my bmi is high. I stopped both after 3 weeks but I was very mobile by then.

I haven't driven yet, mainly just because I haven't needed too, but I'm 6 weeks Tuesday so nearly there now anyway.

FTEngineerM · 10/10/2021 00:49

@Newmum110 wasn’t told to wear compression socks at all, was on clexane for 10 days, drove 13 days PP. ended up having an emcs too and I knew nothing, was pretty daunted by all the ‘don’t lift toddlers/baby up for a few weeks’ ‘don’t drive for 6 weeks’ blah blah but I feel fine so I’ve been doing everything as normal. I stopped taking pain killers day 6 PP.

OP posts:
AdventuresAwait · 10/10/2021 03:56

@Newmum110, no compression socks at home, I was told I could take them off when leaving hospital. Clexane for 10 days so 7 days at home.

MrsTD88 · 10/10/2021 04:09

@Newmum110 no compression socks for me either just injections for 10 days. Thankfully past that stage now!

Sophieandtiger · 10/10/2021 07:12

Thanks @Scotti84 and @KHR1, glad to know we are not alone with the grunting. I'm a bit at my wits end with it as it seems to be getting worse and now starts after the 1am feed, we barely get any sleep after that as she won't be laid flat without grunting and squirming in discomfort. Even co sleeping doesn't work anymore.

She stops around 6am and starts sleeping peacefully again but that's when my toddler wakes ;(

I'm so confused as she sleeps peacefully 9pm to 1am and doesn't do it in the daytime at all.

If anyone has any ideas on how to fix it send then my way, starting to really struggle with lack of sleep!

Kirky658 · 10/10/2021 08:03

Hiya @newmum110 I was told 7 days for the stockings whilst I had the injections. You should be mobile enough they said post 7 days. I got the all clear from my gp and started driving at 6 weeks 😁

So last night we put Alice's arms into her growbag for the first time... And she slept for 6 hours!!!! Couldn't believe it

unicornpower · 10/10/2021 08:04

@Sophieandtiger Billie does this too, I really don’t know why! She sleeps peacefully until her feed so around 2-3 am and then she sleeps like a warthog with constipation from then and grunts and groans for hours (but she’s def asleep?!)

We’ve tried tilting her crib, giving her gaviscon, giving her gripe water/infacol etc but it doesn’t seem to work! The only time she’s quiet is if she’s upright on my shoulder but she’s starting to get less tolerant for that now she’s bigger (they were my favourite cuddles so I’m devo!) from what I’ve heard and read, it seems to be really common and most grow out of it but I’m not 100% sure

Sophieandtiger · 10/10/2021 08:15

Thanks @unicornpower; DD used to sleep on and off through it too but not anymore, she starts crying sooner now. Holding her over the shoulder always seemed to work so at least DH and I could take turns and get sleep but she's also not a fan anymore.

Also tried tilting the crib and infacol to no avail. But you are right they are bound to grow out of it, can't wait!

@kirky658 that's great! Been wondering about trying swaddling the arms in, I think I'll give it a go tonight as we can't get much worse sleep than we are now so worth a try!

CobleCloud · 10/10/2021 09:16

Morning ladies, I'm unsure if my little one has colic? Seems strange but he only seems to be really affected between 4pm & 9ish where he seems really uncomfy and goes red, restless and the most unsettled he is all day, he isn't a big cryer but between these times he is making a noise. I've read online about 'witching hour' any thoughts or ideas?

Scotti84 · 10/10/2021 13:53

My OH seems to think babies do this grunting thing at night because that's when it's quiet, theres less going on and they process everything that's happened in the day, a bit like when we lay there awake because we're tired as hell but our brains are going at 100mph. I could see that making sense and it would explain why its only at night, I did get really worried about it a few nights ago but if it was an illness or something i think it would be happening all the time. Lilly slept from 11:30 til 4, then 5 til 9, then 9 til 12:30 today... me and DH feel like we've slept for a week! I mean the days completely over pretty much and I'm pretty sure she'll be awake half the night now, but that was a welcome break! Just wish Germans did Sunday lunches or had a carvery and the day would be perfect!

Kirky658 · 10/10/2021 14:05

Has anyone else's little ones had trouble going for a poo? Alice hasn't been yesterday or today and starting to get a bit concerned 🙄

KHR1 · 10/10/2021 14:28

@Scotti84 that would make sense, especially with it always being at night. Zach grunts a lot in his sleep and often snores but the grunting is worst after about 5am every morning

@Sophieandtiger we tilted Zach's crib slightly as he doesn't really like being flat either and that seems to have helped a bit

Sorry two questions!
Does anyone elses little one have cradle cap? Have you found anything good to help it?

Those who express, what do you do when you go out for quite a few hours? I've got a day out planned in a few weeks and I don't know what to do about pumping, I have a hands free pump but there wouldn't be anywhere to clean it/sterilise it after the first use

Scotti84 · 10/10/2021 14:39

@Kirky658 our midwife said its ok if they don't poo for a few days as long as their nappies are still wet, apparently it's normal 🤷‍♀️

bewitchingnight · 10/10/2021 15:01

@Kirky658 yes, 7 days is our record. Anything up to 10 is normal according to paediatrician for breastfed babies as long as she's doing wet nappies as normal x
