Hi all. My DD is now 8 weeks. I've noticed she would fall asleep in my arms peacefully however as soon I put her down into her crib she starts to fidgit and eventually start crying.
I have to hold her for good 15min so she enters her deep sleep.

Any ideas why or tips I can try out?

Thanks.

HumunaHey · 24/08/2021 19:22

@LadySB89 I think that's part of the newborn stage I'm afraid. They just want to be close to their carers and feel safe.

I have no tips as I'm 2 for 2 with newborns who will only sleep when being cuddled. Perhaps you could try @pinkgin8 tip?

PeanutButterFalcon · 24/08/2021 20:01

@LadySB89 DDs exactly the same. Sometimes she just cries for a cuddle.

I’ve read when they become vacant it’s the time to put them down in their beds. However, I can’t help but have a cuddle.

I’ve been recommended Huckleberry, they have a website and App. Can pay for subscriptions but I’m finding it useful to notice DDs routine and learn when she’s napping to put her down at those times

Bellaphant · 30/08/2021 19:11

@Vie8126, that's about my four weeks' old pattern - 11ish to 1isj, then 4ish, then 6ish, but she will sometimes go back 'til 8. She feeds a bunch after that, and then basically all evening from 5-10!! The sleep is way better than her brother (now 2) was though!

My husband is starting work in the next week or so, I'm so nervous.

Hi everyone. How are things?

I was wondering if people could share any tips on comforting baby to sleep?

Son has always breastfed to sleep so far. However have been having latch issues due to tongue tie and being tube fed initially so have introduced bottles of expressed milk too. No more watery green poos but I’m finding it harder to get him to settle when he’s had a bottle- half the time he seems to get annoyed at the end of the bottle feed rather than sleepy. And being burped gets him raging.

He doesn’t like being held much unless it’s to eat or to sleep. When he’s awake he likes lying in his Moses basket and kicking/having a look round/being chatted to. If you hold him he gets annoyed. However he won’t settle to sleep in his cot or Moses basket without being fed first and a sleepy cuddle.

He will fall asleep if you take him for a walk in the buggy.

Help! Any tips? What do other mums who use bottles do to help their LO sleep or is it just mine who gets cross haha?

pinkgin8 · 08/09/2021 08:02

My son (8 weeks) slept from 9:15pm-6:00am, had a bottle then woke at 8am the other night. And last night went to sleep at 9:20 till 4am, bottle then woke at 7am.
Am I supposed to wake him up for feeds if he goes a certain time without one or can I just let him sleep? Have no doubt this will last long anyway🤣

BlackberrySt · 08/09/2021 08:45

Oh my gosh @pinkgin8 no advice but I’m very envious! My 8wk old boy fed at 10pm, 1am and 4am last night. Standard for him.

I think if he’s happily sleeping then let him be?

Mummy2O · 08/09/2021 09:29

@pinkgin8 As long as he is putting on weight nicely, I'd let him sleep. You'll soon know about it if he's hungry. Grin

pinkgin8 · 08/09/2021 20:38

@BlackberrySt I bet it won't last long though!😅
He had bronchiolitis recently which I was so scared about ,so I think now he's over that he's just getting some good sleep.
But to be honest, he hardly naps in the day so I also think that's why he's doing such good hours, sometimes he just will not nap at all and by 9pm he's shattered!

@Mummy2O oh yes he makes it known if he's hungry 🤣

He was infact weighed today and is 11.12
which they are happy with

pinkgin8 · 08/09/2021 20:40

@BlackberrySt this may sound strange but when my son gets agitated or restless / over tired before or after a feed, or to go to sleep, I run the tap on in the bathroom and gently rock him till he's in a deep sleep , he seems to relax to the sound of the water running so maybe try that??

PeanutButterFalcon · 08/09/2021 20:47

@BlackberrySt we are the same, the temptation to bottle feed sometimes is real (We have tried a bottle of breast milk and she got hysterical and refused it). We’re 8pm bed time, 10, 1, 3, 5 and 7 and 8 feeds. It’s exhausting.

PeanutButterFalcon · 08/09/2021 20:51

Also can’t comfort her without the boob, trying to work on that by doing the eat, play, sleep routine to break the habit. Could you snuggle into your chest as they can smell the milk then and may find it comforting?

Mummy2O · 10/09/2021 20:18

How is everyone doing?

I took Idris to a baby sensory class today. I think it was the strangest hour of my life but he seemed to really enjoy himself. It was the most engaged and alert he has been.

He has his first jabs on Monday. I am sure DS1 had a bad tummy for a few days afterwards, so I am keeping everything crossed that he is OK.

THATmamaofMANY · 14/09/2021 07:48

How did it go @Mummy2O?

Our jabs are tomorrow

(Snowflake on NC)

pinkgin8 · 14/09/2021 10:01

My son has two teeth coming through already. Dealing with it very well but I think it's ridiculous there's nothing on the market for 2months+ it's all 3 and above

THATmamaofMANY · 14/09/2021 10:09

Calpol is 2 months @pinkgin8

Mummy2O · 14/09/2021 12:13

@THATmamaofMANY He was really unsettled yesterday afternoon; crying more than he ever has. He has had a temperature on and off ever since, but it is coming down a bit now. We just keep dosing him up with calpol when needed. He hasn't done any substantial poops in the last 24 hours so I am anticipating a poonami in the near future.

@pinkgin8 The poor thing, teething already! How is he with it?

pinkgin8 · 14/09/2021 17:32

@THATmamaofMANY should of said that's the only thing I've been giving him but doesn't seem to do much :(

@Mummy2O I know I didn't think babies did it this early!
He is a bit grumpy!! Two are coming through at the front button

BlackberrySt · 14/09/2021 19:49

Ohh my son had his jabs yesterday @Mummy2O @THATmanaofMANY and has been awful too. Was almost inconsolable yesterday evening, really crying and unable to settle. We’d get him to drop off and then 10mins later he’d startle awake and cry again. Wouldn’t be put down this morning even when awake which is not like him. Seems a little better now but not much appetite, keeps refusing bottles of expressed milk he usually glugs down.

BlackberrySt · 14/09/2021 19:51

@PeanutButterFalcon how is eat, play, sleep going?

Mummy2O · 14/09/2021 22:11

Taking him out in the car was the only thing that settled him for us. He loves the movement (most of the time).

He is much better now. His temperature has pretty much gone back to normal. He just seems really tired after wearing himself out.

Mummy2O · 14/09/2021 22:19

@pinkgin8 I hope they come through quickly. It's horrible. My DS1 always got a sore bum too when teething. No idea why that is a thing. As if teeth coming through isn't bad enough!

pinkgin8 · 14/09/2021 22:58

@Mummy2O I've never ever heard of that happening before! In two or three days they should be through. My dd never teethed this early, in fact I didn't even know she was teething till her tooth was already there! He seems content sleeping at the moment

Gilbertsaurus · 15/09/2021 13:21

We had jabs last week too, not fun! DS had a raging temperature and wouldn't settle all night unless he was in bed with me. Thankfully only lasted about 24 hours. Also made the mistake of trying to stop infacol this week, bad idea! Screamed all evening!!!
Thankfully he's back to his normal self now, we are very lucky he sleeps through the night Smile but is a terrible napper

pinkgin8 · 15/09/2021 23:08

Is anyone on here using a Tommie tippee prep machine? (Not the day and night one)
