Congratulations everyone!

DS2 arrived on the 14th by C section, a day before our planned one was meant to be because my waters went. The whole thing feels a bit surreal now. We were home the following day, which was really unexpected.

We are getting on well so far. Breastfeeding is going OK, though I am a bit sore when he first latches. I think the morphine was hiding the pain a bit in hospital so I hadn't realised he wasn't quite latching properly. Blush

Is anyone else feeling like they still look really bloated? I hate that I still look pregnant. I also have swollen feet from the antibiotics and fluid they gave me. I am hoping they go down a bit soon but this heat isn't helping. Grump!!

DS2 is an absolute little stunner though. I could just look at him all day. He is just perfect.

Hi all this thread keeps going from my active threads

Anyway DS was born on 17 June - a month old today!

Are you all on the Facebook group too?

PeanutButterFalcon · 17/07/2021 13:09

@PurpleCurtain completely missed you had given birth! Congratulations.

@TiredAlreadyOhDear congratulations it’s crazy isn’t it. It all merges into one. My diary has been my saviour with all the midwife appointments.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 17/07/2021 14:28

I'm not on facebook so hopefully we can keep this group going

My post natal thread from 2 years ago is still going which is nice

DD is 3 weeks 2 days and going well. Since start of week 2, we've noticed her hunger has increased which is a good. Currently a mix of breast, express and bottle. Boobs become score in the morning if I don't breast/express. DH helps around Keep DD occupied, nappy change and sterilising the bottles etc.

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 17/07/2021 15:45

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE I’m not on Facebook either so will be nice to keep this going like you say! Xx

PurpleCurtain · 17/07/2021 19:23

Struggling so much with the heat and how to keep him cool! Having to keep him downstairs until later in the evening than I'd like because our bedroom gets so hot.

And I've always had a bit of a worry about smoke and babies and of course, everyone is having bbqs... DH was sat with DS in the garden whilst next door's was at the initial very smoky stage... trying very hard not to overreact and telling myself that there's that much pollution in every car exhaust/ that I should be relieved we don't live in the city!

ElderMillennial · 17/07/2021 20:44

@PurpleCurtain I get anxious about the heat too, especially at night. Baby is in nappy only at the moment as his temp was slightly high but think he'll be sleeping in only a vest.

Bedroom is currently 26 degrees and I am hoping it cools down a good few degrees in the next couple of hours.

LadySB89 · 18/07/2021 11:56

I've noticed by DD has now few spots on her face. Is this because of the recent heat weather?

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 18/07/2021 17:00

@LadySB89 my little lady got a couple of spots too but they’ve gone now I think it’s the heat .

Anyone else pumping milk? It takes so long and I’m getting so little 🙈

Yes, pumping x3 a day. It starts to hurt so health visitor advised to avoid it drying out/hurting good to express as much as possible if not BF. Best time is in the morning.

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 18/07/2021 17:54

@LadySB89 how much are you getting each time? I only started yesterday and one 1 hour yesterday and 1 hour today - 2x 30 min sessions. What are you doing? And how much approx are you getting? I’m getting like 1 oz per half hour xx

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 19/07/2021 09:36

I'm pumping about once a day. I also give one bottle of formula a day but wondering whether we still need to do that. It's just handy for DH to be able to give him a bottle in the night and it helped with putting on weight in the early days. It varies how much I get. One day last week I got 4oz from one boob. Last night I got 2oz from one and left the other for him to feed on.

I've read different things about whether it's best to pump in the morning or evening. I suppose I should try both but it's usually when I can fit it in!

PurpleCurtain · 19/07/2021 10:41

I'm not great at working in ounces Grin but I'm day 8 and pump 3-4 times a day so that DH can be involved and bottle feed and take the pressure off a bit...the amount from 15 mins pumping each side is still growing each day and is about 120ml in a morning; more like 80-90 the other times. Just using a manual pump, not sure what we'll do about feeding longer term so haven't bought an electric one yet.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 19/07/2021 19:13

I work ml too, it was just because ounces weren't mentioned above. Most I have pumped is 120ml from one boob, 180ml from both, but is more often 60-80ml. That's pumping once and BFing all day and night.

I've got the medela swing pump and it's good but I know people swear by the haaka(?) too.

Nesski · 20/07/2021 07:21

@BunnytheFriendlyDragon I've got the medela swing as well! But only getting around 50/60ml, although I haven't been diligent in pumping consistently but want husband to help with feeds...

Does anyone have any tips on when to pump and how to get bigger yields??

Mummy2O · 20/07/2021 12:21

@Nesski When I was pumping with my eldest I found that pumping first thing in the morning worked best for me. It also helped to be warm (not hard in this weather) and comfortable.

PurpleCurtain · 20/07/2021 12:47

Agreed on pumping in the morning. And apparently (don't know how true this is but relatives keep telling me...) making sure that you are at least one of pumping or breastfeeding sometime between 1 and 5am really helps with supply generally. Not that any of us are sleeping in this blooming weather anyway!

Can I ask - when do / have / will you all first venture out without baby? I was hoping to go for a haircut tomorrow in my village as it's driving me mad and thought it would be great to feel a bit better about myself. My hair is shortish so can't imagine I will be out for more than 1h30... but mentioned this to my mum who said I was being selfish and unrealistic and that it wasn't okay to go out without baby until after his first jabs, and even worse when covid cases are high?!

Nesski · 20/07/2021 14:49

@PurpleCurtain funny you ask, I just had a haircut on Saturday! Although my husband took the baby and hung in the area and I specifically called the hairdresser to tell then concerns around BF and newborn baby, they were so accommodating and were more than happy for me to feed if needed in the salon! Have you been jabbed yet? Self-care is so important, get your hair done and don't look back!

Nesski · 20/07/2021 14:55

Also, I first went out on day 5 for midwife appointment at the hub, and then we went for a coffee afterwards. Pushed it too hard and my c section incision came apart slightly Sad

PurpleCurtain · 20/07/2021 15:01

@Nesski ahhh I needed to hear that, thanks! Have only had one jab so far, second dose not for a couple more weeks but DH will be back at work by then so finding a timeslot where he can be at home with expressed bottles to hand will presumably be harder!

Sorry about your incision, hope that's not causing too much discomfort Sad

Nesski · 20/07/2021 15:25

@PurpleCurtain yes it's all healed up nicely since that episode, just went back to MAU who gave me some antibiotics and dressing, along with a strict telling off to not push my luck Grin thanks for the advice and @Mummy2O I expressed at 6am this morning and got 60ml, I think it's just keeping consistency and doing it at this time every day, however we are 4 weeks in and I would typically sleep after his 6am feed so reaaaally tired today, maybe I just need to suck it up!

@LadySB89 mine has full blown acne going on, face and upper chest (white spots), docs told me it could be up until 6 months until they go!

Nesski · 20/07/2021 15:28

Oh yeah and @Mummy2O I had pig trotters for feet for 8 days after as I also was pumped full of antibiotics and fluids after emergency c section, it literally went down overnight so it'll be the same with you. Never felt so fat and awful and.. bloated

PurpleCurtain · 20/07/2021 16:44

On a similar self-care note... just painted my nails with a home gel kit... which I felt bloody great about, then realised baby was asleep right next to me and chemical levels probably not ideal... this is okay right?! If I carried on worrying about everything that gives off fumes / vapours I'd never take him anywhere, and I'm sure I've seen very small babies at nail salons next to their mums having acrylics/ dyed hair!

Nesski · 20/07/2021 17:00

@PurpleCurtain not sure how we are on the same wavelength here, but I was thinking of going to the salon to get my toes done with him in the pram but figured it was a bad idea until he's a bit older!! You're fine with what you did, I think salon is step too far!!
