Same regarding clothes! I had my 6 week check up (at 8 weeks) and measuring 91st centile! I compare him to other babies his age and he is massive so brought this up with the GP, who said they I need to continue doing what I'm doing and they don't worry about weight until they're 3... and he has had his 8 week jabs on Monday and oh my god, night from hell. I have friends whose babies slept through the night... Very very jealous

Nesski · 18/08/2021 10:44

Sorry awful typos, the baby is measuring 91st centile!

Pinkprinny · 20/08/2021 08:54

Finally made my way over, little one was born on the 7/08 and was 8 pounds 7

BlackberrySt · 20/08/2021 13:12

Hi everyone. Just wondering, do any of your babies spend long periods awake? My boy has just fallen asleep now at 1pm. He woke up at 6.30am and aside from a half hour nap around 11am has been awake all the way through. He does have colic and his tummy wakes him up. He’s 5wks old. First baby so I’m not sure what’s normal, does this seem to be a very long period awake? This morning I’ve tried rocking him, carrying him in his sling, a dummy, and of course breastfeeding him to sleep. Feeding works best, but poor lad keeps being woken soon after dropping off by gripey tummy.

BlackberrySt · 20/08/2021 13:14

I’d love a nap myself but I don’t think it’s happening today!

Mummy2O · 20/08/2021 13:51

That does seem like quite a long time. It could be worth mentioning to your health visitor.

PeanutButterFalcon · 20/08/2021 14:20

@BlackberrySt DD can be the same and has struggled with bellyache. Have you tried lying him on his tummy? DD either likes to be on our arm and rocked or over our lap on a pillow with her back massaged or tapped. She’ll fall asleep almost instantly on the pillow. Once she gets overtired it can be really difficult to get her to sleep.

Does anyone have any preferred nappies? DD is doing the largest runniest poos I’ve ever seen and her nappy can’t hold it all. It’s every time she poos.

Mummy2O · 20/08/2021 14:30

@PeanutButterFalcon I am a big fan of the Aldi ones. They seem to fit really well and haven't leaked for us.

We are currently back at the hospital with DS2. His jaundice from birth hasn't cleared up (now at 5 weeks), so the health visitor told us to see our GP. We did that today (we missed triage by 2 minutes yesterday Hmm) and they've sent us straight in to the Children's Ward. We are just waiting on his blood test results to find out what is what. The poor little thing screamed the place down whilst they were taking the sample. I have never heard him cry so much.

THATmamaofMANY · 20/08/2021 15:11

Nappies i prefer tesco / asda / pampers

Aldi and lidl leak here

PeanutButterFalcon · 20/08/2021 16:03

@Mummy2O @THATmamaofMANY it’s the Aldi ones we’re currently using after lots of recommendations. They’ve been brilliant until she’s started doing these large poos. Both pampers and Aldi she will fill completely and go straight through. Tesco and Asda gave her nappy rash initially but would be worth trying again. I’m washing the car seat/pram/toys daily at the minute.

I hope your DS is ok. I know someone who had similar with their DS and it was due to mum having bilirubin in her system when she gave birth (I think), was quite worrying at the time, but treated with a course of medication.

THATmamaofMANY · 20/08/2021 19:46

@PeanutButterFalcon have you tried going up a size?

@Mummy2O hope your little one is ok

PeanutButterFalcon · 20/08/2021 20:10

@THATmamaofMANY I haven’t done. Her weight is lower than the next size up but could try it

Bellaphant · 20/08/2021 20:54

@BlackberrySt, My first was awake all the time, he never got the memo about babies sleeping 18 hours a day. He was a bit colicky but just seemed to prefer being awake and alert.
@PeanutButterFalcon, would echo going up a size in Aldi nappies. Have also used the Morrison ones and they are good too.

BlackberrySt · 21/08/2021 00:17

Thanks @Bellaphant he certainly seems very alert, my Mum keeps saying oh isn’t he bright! And sees it as a positive, I just worry.

Absolutely horrendous day today. Started at 4am with him pooping through his nappy, sleep suit and sleeping bag (Aldi nappy btw) and finished with him doing the same just now and screaming the house down while I changed him. This is on top of no sleep through the day and an evening cluster feeding. We’d only been in bed 45 mins but he’s feeding now like he hasn’t eaten for hours.

@Mummy2O sorry to hear your lo is in hospital. Have you had the blood test results?

Mummy2O · 21/08/2021 15:47

@BlackberrySt We were there for almost 7 hours yesterday and they hadn't come back so they sent us home. They ended up having to repeat two of the blood tests again today as the samples had clotted. Thankfully, everything is looking OK. They want us to come back in 2 weeks to check his bilirubin levels are going down to be sure though.

The blood tests were horrid. He screamed so much during the first one. He'd tired himself by the time they did the other two so he just slept in my arms. It was so much quicker with a needle today, instead of the heel prick. I will ask them to just do that first in future. He was so brave.

It had also never occurred to me before what an experience it would be to get a urine sample for a baby. It has been an interesting couple of days.

Vie8126 · 22/08/2021 10:16

@BlackberrySt my boy is 3 weeks today and omg all I'm doing is feeding or cuddling it's really getting stressful my teens go back to school and I need to be able to be up and out at 7am for various school runs it's stressing me out! This morn he woke at 4 had bottle, then at 6.30am crying like his hungry so fed him then he had 2oz fell asleep put him down he wakes up had another oz then falls asleep put him down and then he syafts again and had the last oz, then he continjes to cry as its now 9am and his actually due another feed so now since 9am I've been repeating the same pattern. His now crying again as I've just put him down. I'm not even showered yet and it's gone 10!! My DP thinks a dummy will resolve it but I'm not so sure!!

THATmamaofMANY · 22/08/2021 13:17

@Vie8126 any chance your teens can make their own ways to and from school? Or can they help in any way?

Our little one is coming up to 8 weeks now so i was back on school run for a couple of weeks before summer hols, he is still going a max of 3/4 hours between feeds in the day

Today he fed at 4am, then 730, 10am and 12.30

If you do need to be doing school runs then set things like your clothes out ready the night before so you can throw them on when you get two mins, i try and make sure i have offered some milk 30-45 mins before i need to leave the house which should last him until we get home at least

Vie8126 · 22/08/2021 14:49

@THATmamaofMANY I have a 30 min round trip to drop them at the train station to get the train. I'm thinking back to when I had dc3 and she just used to go on school run in pj's if I'm not showered etc it doesn't matter I can get up early at like 5am if I needed to as DP is up and leaving for work then I know short term it's going to be exhausting until we're in more of a routine!

Bubs is having his last bottle around 8/9pm then going thru to 1am then waking at 4am it just seems to be morning and early evening that we have this cluster feeding issue where all I'm doing is feeding him falling asleep, trying to put him down and then feeding again and again then washing bottles etc.

THATmamaofMANY · 22/08/2021 15:37

I know @Vie8126 it can seem really relentless! I don't have to leave my house until 830 for school run, i don't drive so my school run is on foot with double buggy, 4 year old and 8 year old. I try to do anything i need to like go to the shop etc after i drop the kids at school so it doesnt interfere with the rest of my day.

Vie8126 · 22/08/2021 16:19

@THATmamaofMANY when my older 3 were little that's what I would do, try to go to shops first thing after dropped eldest off back get some bits done feed middle one and dc3 then go back for midday nursery run then back again! It got easier when was only 2 school runs! I just feel so out of practice at it! My dd has to be on the 7.36 train so leaving at 7 gets her there around 7.15/20 depending on traffic so she can get a ticket, meet her friend etc. It really can feel relentless at times maybe school runs will bring some normality 🤷‍♀️

THATmamaofMANY · 22/08/2021 17:10

I suppose i am lucky my oldest two go to a secondary school within walking distance!

pinkgin8 · 22/08/2021 22:59

Learnt a new method today for getting a baby to go back to sleep after waking up shortly after falling asleep for a nap. As mine tends to wake about 5 minutes or ten minutes after I've placed him down.

Saw a video on a article so when my son woke I tried it, he then slept for three hours after which he doesn't always do!

It usually works best if they are in a swaddle but without is fine.
If they wake, simply turn them on their side (they don't stay like this when asleep) and pat their back continuously, be persistent, don't stop after two minutes of trying, it took my son a good ten minutes to fall back to sleep but when he did he was completely content.

HumunaHey · 23/08/2021 17:21

What a dream! I wish it would work on my son but I'm not sure it would. His startle reflex is so sensitive. Anything but being on his tummy/lying on someone and he will jerk himself wide awake after a couple of minutes. I'll still give it a go though.

He also hates being swaddle and screams bloody murder if his arms aren't free🙃. People who say the newborn stage is the best/easiest are weird [lighthearted].

Vie8126 · 23/08/2021 19:29

@pinkgin8 thanks for that I'll defo be trying that!! My little man had a nightmare night was screaming from 7pm to 11.45pm then woke at 1am then 4am then 5am the whole thing was awful for us both!! I'm wondering if his constipated as he hasn't been for a good 2 days now poss 3 (bad mummy can't even remember as the days are rolling into one!) I tried ssshing, white noise, swaddles!

pinkgin8 · 23/08/2021 21:16

@Vie8126 forgot to mention when doing it to do a loud shushing noise! Might not work every time , it didn't today for him but each day is different!
