bmh - I was trying to remember how long it took before my period came back with dd1 and even though she was bottle fed it still took a while for them to return. dd2 is exclusively breastfed and no sign of them reappearing yet.

collision · 10/05/2005 16:32

bmh.....dont worry.....they will soon be back unless you are pregnant!! Just joking!

DS is BF and so mine havent started again yet. It is so nice not to have periods and I am dreading them starting again.

Welcome to Mumsnet and tell us about your baby and yourself.

bmh · 10/05/2005 18:10

Good god ! Not thought of that one but ds is acting as the perfect contraception so i don't think so. thanks for the reassurance eidsvold and collision.

I'm 31 with ds no1, my husband is 32 and works nights, 7 on and 7 off so when he's at work it's a very long week (mind you it's a long week when he's off 'helping' too)

ds is just about 6 months and is an absolute darling now, bit of a nightmare for a few weeks when he suffered from colic, but couldn't ask for anything more now, except a nights sleep that is!!!!

Great to find mumsnet, been really helpful reading peoples own experiences. have very quickly become addicted.

mum2max · 11/05/2005 09:15

hi all, still no teeth (but with all the symptoms like red cheeks and dribbling, as well as 5 poos a day and bad nappy rash!) Really enjoyed homemade beef casserole mush. Wolfed it down.
Ds is quite happy sitting for a while, but still can't quite finish a roll over, even when singing "There were 10 in a bed..."!

Also personal - had coil fitted a few weeks ago, hadn't had a period since ds was born, but coil seemed to cause a little bit of bleeding. Had a one day period last week (prob spotting. Friend of mine has 2 daughters - only 11months apart, she was fully bf the first one!!!!!! Beware...

Riebee · 11/05/2005 19:27

Hello all

Another tooth has sprouted so two bottom ones now, waiting delightful moment when he decides to bit my boob! hoping he won't do it but my other two ds's did so not holding out much hope
Ds3 is sitting up beautifully now, far happier and can now entertain himself for a while. I just wish he would sleep at night. He doesn't seem to like to roll, I know he can do it but doesn't seem to have caught on that he could actually used it to travel around the room.

Re personal...I had a period last month and was really shocked as I'm b/f and wasn't really expecting it to happen, was most peeved. I've had quite bad stomach ache this month too so I think they have resumed worse luck.I was hoping for a few more months grace.

hi, I got a period a few weeks ago and it hasnt stopped yet! . In fact it is so heavy the gp has given me pills to lighten the blleding before I get anaemic and I have to have a blood test and internal next week. It was so much nicer when I didnt have periods to worry about!

Dd is a gannet and never leaves a scrap of food -I have introduced a third meal today (lunch which until now was a milk feed). She is so funny and laughs hysterically at everything her big brother does, I am really enjoying the two of them.

bmh · 11/05/2005 22:20

thanks all for great advice, after reading bunny2's period problems, i guess i should stop worrying and just enjoy the break!

my ds has just the one V sharp tooth with another one fast approaching. fortunately just stopped bf before it came through but can imagine the pain ouch.

he is rolling over but can only go one way though and can't get back once he's there, so he just looks round for appreciation, very proud of himself, then doesn't quite know what to do next and so cries until i roll him back, only to do it all over again!

sorry 2 say, but i'm glad i'm not the only one who's still not getting a full nights sleep, TBH have fibbed to people a couple of times when they've told how long their little darlings sleep for . he sleeps a lot better now that he's on the bottle, he was waking every 2-3 hours for bf, now it's twice between 7pm - 7am so not bad i suppose!?! started doing a 'dreamfeed' from day one 'ala the babywhisperer' but now he has started waking for it so perhaps it wasn't such a good idea. Who knows? first time mum it all seems to be a bit of trial and error, but he's a little star so we must be doing something right!!!!!!!!!!

oops!!!!!!!!!

PandaBear · 12/05/2005 13:54

Hi All - well I'm back at work this week, and it wasn't as bad as I thought. Finishing earlier really helps and my girls are so happy to see me at the end of the day that it makes it all worth while. As for DD2, we have no teeth, no rolling but lots of gurgling, gooing, cooing, and laughing. I'm loving being a mummy to 2.

As for periods - with both my girls they came back at 5 months. This time though, they seem to be really heavy for longer. I'm hoping it will settle down in the near future.

Glad to hear everyone is well.

eidsvold · 13/05/2005 06:57

well what a week here - first off I was ill at the start of the week and now poor dd2 - 6 months on Sunday- has managed to get tonsilitis.... poor wee darling feeling very sorry for herself - add to this a tooth through and another one not far behind....

All I can say is THANK GOODNESS she did not get dd1's stomach bug that she had last week - could not cope with two throwing up.

webmum · 13/05/2005 10:36

hello everyone and welcome to the newcomers!

not been on mumsnet for a while now.
Dd2 is still an adorable baby, happy and cheerful, and very placid!! (SO unlike ehr sister!!).
Still no rolling or teeth yet, but she puts everything in her mouth, and has developed a fascination for balloons, she just gets overexcited when she sees one!!

We're on 3 solids a day now, and I've dropped milk altogether at lunch time and this week she has slept through twicw, so fingers crossed, we might be getting there. Now that she has solids she hardly ever needs a top up bottle, but I always offer her one at bedtime, hoping it will last her to the morning!!

What I'm finding a bit difficult now is spacing out her feeds, since she sleeps 12 hours (excluding the night feed), she has milk at 7am then breakfast, the lunch at 11.30/12, than milk around 3pm, tea at 5-6pm, and milk again at 7.30 when she goes to bed. I know she should ahve a milk feed midmormning but she never seems hungry until around 10.30/11 but then if I feed her she won't have her solids at lunch....and if I move her lucnh forward, her afternoon milk and tea will be too close together!!

What kind of routine are you following?

PandaBear · 13/05/2005 13:47

Hi webmum - my DD2 has milk and breakfast at 07:30 ish. Then milk at 11:00 then lunch at 12:00, tea at 5:00 and milk at 06:30 just before bed at 7. The 11:00 milk will be dropped as soon as she starts on protein at lunch time! It's fun trying to fit everything in isn't it! Mind you if your DD2 is not showing signs of hunger, and is sleeping through OK - then why change what you're doing?

Quacks · 13/05/2005 21:40

BUNNY - LONG TIME!!!!! HAVE WONDERED IF YOU STILL POST! i DON;T MUCH BUT OCCASIONALLY COME ON HERE AND SEE IF YOU;RE ABOUT! G IS DOING GREAT - 9 MONTHS. I'LL KEEP LOOKING TO SEE HOW YOU GET ON WITH CURRENT PROBLEM. XXXXXXXX q

mum2max · 13/05/2005 23:48

Here's my present routine, fairly flexible...
7am wake up and bf (soon to be 7oz bottle)
8:30 solid breakfast
9am nap
10.30 ish 7oz milk
12 noon solid lunch
1pm nap
3pm 7oz milk
4:30 solid dinner
5pm catnap
7pm 7oz bottle and bed
(10pm dreamfeed now being phased out)
This is a nice routine and works at the moment, but I don't know where to go from here. HV simply says "follow your baby" (!) doesn't really help. Now that ds is on 3 solid meals a day (and a good bowlful at each sitting) what happens to the volume of milk? He's happy to drink water from cup so I'm not too worried about dehydration. The formula packet suggests 8oz four times a day, that seems loads!! I can't see ds eating a bowlful AND drinking 8oz of milk at same mealtime? So am i right to give milk as a snack inbetween solid meals??? just don't know and am confused with all different opinions.

bunny2 · 16/05/2005 20:26

Hi eveyone (Quacks, must seek and find you

Here is our routine:

wake 6ish, bottle of milk
breakfast @ 9ish (fruit and rice) usually followed by a nap.
milk at 11.00
milk feed at 3.00
dinner (veg and rice or potato) at 6.00
bath at 7.00 followed by bottle and bed at 7.30

Aside from the post-breakfast nap, dd sleeps as and when she needs to - some days lots and less on other days. This is a close to a routine as I can get.

Dd rolled over today - hooray!!!!! Now she is a mobile dd

My neverending period continues to cause problems. Spent all day at the hospital today follwing a gp appointment this morning. Tomorrow I have to go in for a d&c and to have a polyp removed and a camera thing look-around. At least I will get some bedrest and a chance to finish the DaVinci Code

Riebee · 16/05/2005 21:46

bunny...hope it all gets sorted out soon.

Well this is our routine

b/f between 6-7am
breakfast solids 8.30 ish
off to school with daddy& brothers 8.45 and morning nap
solid lunch 12ish usually contains some protein & yoghurt/fruit puree for dessert.
lunchtime sleep anytime between 12.30 & 2pm
b/f between 2.30 & 3.30
Catnap sometimes on schoolrun or just after
solid dinner including dessert at 5pm ish
Bathtime 5.30pm
Bedtime & b/f anytime between 6 & 7pm.

Awake 16 zillion times a night

Ds3's saving grace is that he eats everything I put in front of him, favourite at the moment is spinach & pasta with cheese and he is tackling lumps quite nicely too...will be a full roast dinner next week
He does this really funny thing with his hands and feet when he see something he likes or if he's getting fed up he rotates his wrist and ankles. The more stroppy/excited he gets the faster they go.

mum2max · 16/05/2005 23:14

loved flakes of BBQ smoked trout at weekend also fond of beef casserole, chicken rissoto, gammon and crumpets Not all pureed I might add.

Gettin through from 7pm til 7am with (now) only 1oz of milk!!!!!!!!!!!! I think to myself is there much point in continuing dreamfeed??

Am also STILL on a period caused by coil. Am going for 6 weeks after coil check up on Thursday, don't know whether they'll want to see me if still spotting/ bleeding?

bunny2 · 16/05/2005 23:17

I better start giving dd lunch! She gobbles up any solids I give her so she is probably ready for a third meal. I dont panic about her erratic daytiem naps as she sleeps at night so well.

Thanks Riebee shall keep you updated!

gingernut · 16/05/2005 23:31

hey bunny, just saw your post on melliek's thread...hope all goes well tomorrow and that it sorts you out!

Haven't been on here for ages...we are doing fine, ds2 is rolling around everywhere and thereby getting about quite a bit. Just started trying solids but he doesn't want to know...he just clamps his mouth tightly shut. It's early days at the mo but but I hope he gets the idea soon or I'll be back on here looking for some advice (seem to remember ds1 took a while though so not worried as yet).

Haven't had time to read everyone's posts ...hope you're all OK.

eidsvold · 17/05/2005 04:03

dd2 doing well although has developed excema - no idea the cause jsut yet so keeping an eye on it.

She is rolling over as well from one side of the room to the other. She got up in the crawling position today but that was as far as it went.

Two teeth through - cause of much grumpiness as well as her bout of tonsilitis.

Just started her on solids - one lot a day - she absolutely hates baby rice but today I gave her some homemade pureed pear which she gobbled down.

Glad to hear all is well with your los.

webmum · 18/05/2005 14:39

Bunny2 I hope everything gets better soon. I had something similar prebabies, good luck.

Your routines seem pretty similar to mine, only thing is dd2 does not seem very interested in bf anymore, except at bedtime, HEr sister was the same, I eventually gave up when she was 7 months as I was fed up with the constant stopping/starting, lifting head to see what's going on, etc etc....DD2 seems to be following a similar pattern....maybe I give her too much in solids? Last night she slept through, well actually, she woke up at 3am but she wasn't crying, just gurgling and chatting and I ignored her and next thing, it was 8am!!!

bmh · 18/05/2005 19:16

help my ds's sleeping pattern seems to have gone heywire!!!!!!!!

although he has never been the best sleeper in the world, he has never slept through, but since having gone on the bottle about 4 weeks ago he really settled down and i was in the process of trying to phase out his one remaining night feed when about 5 nights ago he decided to wake on the hour sometimes taking 2 hours to get back to sleep. I assume it's his teeth, he has all the other signs, but his first one popped up without a murmur. i really need some tips on how to get back on track. I have him on medicines recommended by the pharmacist. Has anyone any tips, PLEASE.

mum2max · 21/05/2005 11:56

bmh, my ds did this a couple of weeks ago and i put it down to teeth. The screaming lasted for 4 nights varying from every half hour 12.30am til 5am, to just between 4am to 5am. No pattern to it.I now routinely give him a sachet of Nelsons Teetha Granules before bed. He likes the taste and they are herbal so no worries there.

Have successfully dropped dreamfeed 3 nights ago. Gradually wittled it down to 1oz at 10pm. Now ds sleeps from 7pm til about 6.30 or 7am. The first night without dreamfeed ds woke up at 5.30am and i thought oh, might be hungry. I went to the loo (as is the rule) and when i got back upstairs he was asleep again. Hope that helps, if not, hope you can see light at the end of that screaming tunnel at 3am.

Ds rolled over yesterday (with the help of the cat's fur as leverage ) Thomas (the cat) didn't seem to mind, and looked quite chuffed that he'd helped...

bmh · 24/05/2005 22:19

thanx mum2max for the advice fortunately he seems to have settled down again, until next time i guess. Gonna give him a fews days to get properly settled and then attempt to drop the dream feed, although back to work next week so probably not the best time to start changing things, i'll see how it goes.

He goes to nursery tomorrow for the first time, just for a morning session at first then for a full ay on friday. I know it will do him the world of good and hopefully tire him out but i am feeling all emotional and am dreading dropping him off in the morning but at the same time quite looking forward to a couple of hours to myself, is that really bad????
