prue - have used sleeping bags with my dd1 - all the way through - she is now 2 1/2. WHen she got really cold- just put a warmer baby gro underneath. Both my dd's seem to hate being covered with blankets etc but love being in sleeping bags go figure....

dd2 has been in a cot for a week now - she was getting far too big for her moses basket - not like dd1 who was over 8 months old when we put her in a cot. Dd2 loves being in the cot as she can see dh and I - she is still in our room for now.

Hurray Hurray Hurray....I think we've cracked it, ladies we have a routine
It has been a long few days but I feel so relieved. we have been doing the crying down method (Gina Ford sleep training) with ds and he is like a different baby. He sleeps better, feeds better and even looks better for it. I can't believe that making him sleep more in the day has changed everything. Before I had no daytime routine and the nights were just horrendous with ds waking every hour. This is our new routine
6.30am b/f ds
he has a sleep around 9am for 1/2 hour, b/f 11am and has puree veg and baby rice. In his cot for sleep at 12ish and I try to make him have 1hr-1 1/2hrs. another b/f at 2pm and a few sips of water from beaker 4ish followed by another 1/2hr nap. Bathtime at 5.30,then b/f and fruit puree with rice. Bedtime anywhere between 6.30 -7pm. Tonight he went to sleep without just a few grunts and groans.
Last night I woke him up at 10.30 for a feed let him cry at 1.30 and fed him again 2.30 and he went back to sleep until 6.15. We are going to leave him tonight and see what time he wakes up...you never know he might just go the night!
I am like a new person, feel more like my old self.

Riebee

Dd is back to waking TWICE nightly for a feed - my hv has suggested I start weaning her soon. I am so knackered I agree with her.

Panda good to hear from you

Riebee · 08/03/2005 21:25

He didn't go the night but it is a hundred times better than it was. Fed him at 12.15 and again at 4pm. At a bit of a loss as how to make him go longer, still not too keen on letting him cry in the night, night iyswim, I'm too knackered to do it.
He still cries at his nap times for quite a while sometimes, but he is getting there. He really giggled today...was lovely

Bunny - you are knackered? DS has reverted to waking every hour / 2 hours during the night. I am knackered! He is 18 weeks today and don't want to wean him yet as I don't think thsi will do any good anyway. Have moved him into his own room now and he is marginally better, but still waking at least every 2 hours, but at least I can ignore him some of the time and not just pick him up and feed him straightaway, as I was when he was in our room.

He rolled over last fri

bunny3 · 09/03/2005 11:52

Mum2E, sympathies to you. Why are you reluctant to start weaning? My hv seemed to think I should be guided by dd and suggested waiting until 15 wks or so before introducing rice/veg and then to introduce new things very very slowly. I am reluctant because we have a familiy history of allergies and late weaning might give dd less chance of developing an allergy or eczema. But some mornings I am so tired I cant wait to give her some rice to see if it helps me get a decent sleep.

Mum2Ela · 09/03/2005 17:52

bunny, sorry my last post sounded crap. I didn't mean for it to sound like you too aren't knackered, which when I just read it back, that is what it may have sounded like. Re: weaning, I don't think its a food problem with DS, I think its a sleep problem and TBH I don't yet want the added faff of sorting food for him. Also, DD was weaned fairly early and had excezma (not too bad) so was hoping to avoid this with DS. Did buy some baby rice tho yesterday and may start thinking about giving him just a bit before bed.

Also, am trying to be guided by the 6 month current thinking for weaning.

Has anyone else started weaning yet?

Riebee · 09/03/2005 18:31

DS is started breakfast today, to go with his lunch & tea.
I was on another thread a while back about weaning and came away feeling a bit of a failure for not making the 6mth mark.
All I can say is ds is much happier, I'm much happier and it hasn't made any difference to the bit of eczema he has had since birth

Riebee how old is your DS now?

harrogatemum · 09/03/2005 20:28

Am thinking about weaning my 16.5 week DTs....what do you all think? They have their hands in their mouths constantly and keep staring at me whilst eating. Also one of them has teeth!! Two bottom ones coming through - scary!

Riebee · 09/03/2005 20:32

19 weeks. To be honest the whole 6mth weaning debate made me feel incredibly guilty at the time but have since come to the conclusion that each to there own and I stand by the fact that I believe that ds was ready. He is able to sit in his highchair with no support, is double his birth weight and is able to move the food from the front of his mouth to swallow itas opposed to just sucking of the spoon. yesterday he was smacking his gums together, looked like a cow chewing the cud

have decided with dd2 to try an wait until the 5 month mark - she has a little excema already so want to try not to add any more iykwim. She is almost 17 weeks old.

She constantly is chewing her hand and is dribbling so some teeth here soon I think.

Dd2 also rolled over for the first time yesterday and then did it again twice this morning - although it is a nightmare as the minute she gets on her tummy she screams as she hates being on her stomach.

She is waking about 2am every night for a feed - but she does not feed for long so I am inclined to think as it is still quite hot here despite being autumn that she is having a drink rather than feeding.

eidsvold · 09/03/2005 22:23

that should be the 6 month mark.

Riebee · 10/03/2005 10:04

Hey Harrogate have you considered that they are staring at you just because you are their gorgeous mama!
Seriously though I think you can look at all the advice but ultimately the decision lies with you and what you think is best for your little ones

Flossam · 10/03/2005 10:26

I really want to wait untill 6 months. I have anaphalyix and don't want to risk anything with DS if I can avoid it. I've got quite a few intolerances as well, and both me and DP have or had excema, athsma and hayfever. It is miserable. If there is just a slim chance that early weaning could avoid it for us in my mind at the moment it is worth all the drool!! He has lovely skin too at the moment. I found this link really helpful as it lists myths and also real signs of weaning.

Mum2Ela · 10/03/2005 12:07

Good link Flossam

harrogatemum · 10/03/2005 21:36

aww Riebee - thanks for that - you are probably right!!

Mum2Ela · 11/03/2005 08:24

Well i've had a bit more success the last 2 nights with DS. Have been giving him a bottle of formula for his last feed at about 10ish and now he is only waking twice after that, which is a great improvement on every hour or 2! Means as well I have been able to express at the time he should have been feeding and am managing to stock up the freezer a bit, handy as me and DH are away sat and sat night without the children.

DS is dressed up today as a dragon for comic relief and his big sis is snow white!

bunny3 · 11/03/2005 19:21

M2E, its my turn now!!! Dd has been waking every 90 minutes throughout the night for the last 2 nights. Id love to go back to the twice-nightly wakings! Like FLossam, we have family history of food allergy and ds carries epipens for his so I really dont want to wean early. Bloody knackered though.

Mum2Ela · 11/03/2005 20:29

bunny - it must be that lovely 4-month growth spurt, grrr. p.s. why the change of name to '3'?

harrogatemum · 11/03/2005 21:06

oh my goodness - one of the DTs has teeth!! Bottom two came through a week ago aged 16 weeks....anyone else seen anything like this?

bunny3 · 12/03/2005 11:22

wow teeth - now the brushing-stuggle begins!!

M2E, I have no idea why I am now bunny3, must have changed it and forgotten why (probably a bit drunk at the time!). I was sooo tired yesterday when dd oke at 12.30 for a feed I let her stay in ebd with me and she slept till 6 am, I reckon she might be waking so frequently becasue she is cold (dh insists on an open window)

Riebee · 13/03/2005 20:09

I think ds3 is teething, lots of drool and blazing red cheeks. Doesn't seem too bothered by it though, don't know if has anything to do with the fact we rub his gums everyday with the edge of his muslin, he loves it.
I went out for the first time since he was born, my mil looked after him and he was as good as gold, slept most of the time I was out and took his bottle, little monkey woke up as soon as I got in bed though and was awake at 5.30am

Flossam · 28/03/2005 10:43

Hi all. DS is teething too, poor little thing! We have neighbours next door who are only here at holiday times. At xmas they didn't believe there was a baby here. Not so sure that they will feel the same this time, DS screams the place down in pain. I think I can see where its coming, dosen't look too far under the gum now. He has developed a fascination with his little feet too. He rolls over every so often. Don't think he has really learnt how to do it though. More luck than judgement.

My hair is falling out really badly. I have too almost bald spots either side of my head. It's horrible. Why does this hair falling out thing have to coincide with when DS can grab big handfuls of it? And we are going to have to move house again. Our flat has been put up for sale. We are toying with the idea of trying to get a mortgage and I really want to go back to Bristol. DP has to pass his driving first, so I think we will take it from there.

We are so quiet here! How is everyone else?

Riebee · 28/03/2005 21:28

Hi Flossam ...I'm here
Ds has been in a bit of a state this afternoon, the teeth have got to come through soon, he is producing buckets of drool and you could fry an egg on his cheeks.
He too loves his feet, likes to chew his toes. He's really not interested in trying to roll over but is constantly trying to sit up, he can sit unaided for a little while before he crashes forward or to the side.
I had him weighed the last week...19lbs 12ozs..oink oink
Didnt know you were from Bristol flossam, I live between Swindon & Bristol.
