How awful Eidsvold! What a shock! I dont mean to patronise you at all but how do you cope with stuff like that? I would fall apart.

Honestly, it puts life into perspective when you see the crap other people go through! How are you both? will it affect his job?

mum2max · 29/04/2005 21:45

(new to thread, thankyou Collision for pointing me in the right direction)

Hi all, Ds, Max, born 12th November, after 30 hours of labour (1.58am, weighing in at 7lb 6oz) is a happy bouncing boy. He sleeps through regularly and is on 2 mushy meals a day (since 16 weeks and 16lbs), as well as 5 milk feeds (2 BF and 3 formula). Have followed The Baby Whisperer almost to the letter.
Ds is now 20lb at 24 weeks !!!

We need to move up to next size car seat soon, but info tells me he needs to "sit with confidence" in order to benefit from forward facing type seat(no where near !)I can't afford to buy a multi size one as I'm just recovering from maternity pay as I'm sure you lot are.
I've been back at work for 3 weeks now and ds LOVES nursery, but is struggling a bit with nap times there (they prob don't have the time or staff to persevere with him)

ps. have lost 11 lbs in 2 months only another 29lbs to go! Will keep you posted (only as a chance to boast)

Am finding Max REALLY entertaining now, just a shame I am back at work

eidsvold · 30/04/2005 07:30

collision - I guess you just do - silly answer but we have sort of been through something similar with dd1 ( born with a heart defect - totally unrelated to dh!) and she underwent two open heart surgeries at 8 weeks old.. pretty scary. I did have a little cry Thursday morning when he would not let me go to the consultant appt with him. I am able to go to the next one so have been writing all my questions down ready for the consultant. ( couldn't arrange someone to look after dd's at short notice for the appt this week)

He has to take medication for the rest of his life and surgery in about 10 - 15 yrs time probably. So that is good - girls much older and he will have time owing he can take off from work. Only other thing the consultant said was that he had to avoid active team sports like rugby, football etc.

I am relieved in that there is no surgery in the near future and he will simply need a check up every two years.... similar to dd1 who has annual check ups!!

PandaBear · 30/04/2005 08:30

Eidsvold - my heart goes out to you all!!! I guess in that situation it's comforting to know that they can do so much these days. Good luck - hope it's sorted soon.

Mum2Max - welcome and congrats on the bith of Max, and your amazing weight loss. I go back to work on 10th May and am dreading it in some ways, but others... well I guess it will be nice to be me rather than mummy for a while each day.

Hope everyone else is well

kerfuffle · 30/04/2005 08:45

Hi everyone, can I join in, my dd was born on 20/11/04. Sorry to hear about your dh eidsvold, hope everything turns out ok.
I have a question if anyone can help. My dd is taking solids really well three meals a day and seems to really enjoy them. Before she was on solids I put her on hungrier baby milk as she was finishing 7oz and wanting more. Now however she only has approx 4-5oz milk feed with her solids, even her early morning and late evening feeds have reduced in quantity. My HV says she should be having as much milk as before but I read that they need at least a pint of milk/day to satisfy nutritional needs. Just a bit confused. She seems happy and healthy but her poos are a bit firmer so I'm worried she is not getting enough fluids. She won't take water when I offer it, do you think I should go back to ordinary first milk (Couldn't BF), or cut down her solids? Reluctant to do either as she is now sleeping through the night, hurrah!

kerfuffle · 30/04/2005 09:09

Actually no longer worried about the poo, dd has just done a big sloppy one for me. How lovely.

eidsvold · 30/04/2005 09:26

I would assume her desire for milk would decrease with the more solids she has. You should also see a 'firming' up of poo with the introduction of solids and a variety in diet....her nutiritional needs would also be met by the variety she is having in her diet.

I would see how she goes - if she is not wanting the milk - no point in trying to force her.

kerfuffle · 01/05/2005 07:27

Thanks for the advice eidsvold. That makes sense, just a bit confused by what the HV said.

eidsvold · 02/05/2005 22:36

well - 24 weeks old today and first tooth sprouted over the weekend with no2 not far behind. She is doing so well. Still exclusively breastfeeding. dd2 shows no interest in food yet.... see what the next few weeks bring.

eidsvold · 03/05/2005 13:47

have posted a pic of my girls under thread of same name - cute pic of dd2

Riebee · 03/05/2005 19:19

Welcome Kerfuffle & Mum2max. M2m my ds3 has the middle name Max

Eidsvold ...sorry to hear about dh, well done with the b/f thats fantastic

Ds3 has also popped up his first tooth last week and itlooks (well sounds like!) the other one is not far behind. The old sleeping appears to have gone to pot again, hoping it's just the teeth causing him to wake all the time, sometimes it's hard to tell if he's just got into the habit of waking up...I have matchsticks propping up my eyes
Ds is so lovely though, always got a smile and has such dark eyes that look like chocolate drops. I think he can't wait to be on the move, he's sitting up fairly well now and doesn't keel over as often, he looks so pleased with himself when he manages to stay upright.
Haven't had him weighed for a bit but I imagine he is around 22lb mark at least

mum2max · 04/05/2005 09:39

After 2 months of almost every night sleeping from 10 ish to 7am, we've had 2 night of all out screaming and red cheeks, sounds like it might be teeth?? Anyway thank god for calpol at 3 in the morning How long do teething pains carry on for (I'm back at work and am VERY tired!)? Do they move around a bit for a few days then stop or are they sore until they pop through?
Riebee, it's amazing how many Max's I've met/ heard about since ds was born. There must be at least 4 now in our village! Only ones before that were on Neighbours and Hollyoaks (not that I'm a soap freak )

Riebee · 05/05/2005 19:31

mum2max... ds3 would have Max as his 1st name but for the fact my Mum and Dads dog is called Max!! They live in Greece so not much chance of DS3 noticing just yet, I know it sounds horrid but I was kinda of hoping that the dog would pop it's clogs before he was born , alas no such luck so he ended up Ethan Max instead.
Re the teething I read somewhere that it's usually a week for the teeth...4days before tooth erupts and 3 days after. I can't say I've ever counted but it seems like forever when they are howling. I find Anbesol liquid is a bit of a Godsend.

OP posts:
mum2max · 05/05/2005 20:53

we're now on day 4 of massive grizzling. Fingers crossed I get a good nights sleep as work was hell on earth today! Went to pharmacy and bought all teething remedies under the sun. For reference - Anbesol, Nelsons Teetha Granules and Calpol. All can be taken AT THE SAME TIME
It HAS to work cos I'm shattered - it's like ds is 2 weeks old again yet I'm at work all day Listen to me! like babies have never teethed before

eidsvold · 06/05/2005 00:55

it can be a shock though m2max - dd1 just sprouted teeth - I just noticed one day she had two bottom teeth in her mouth.

dd2 - grizzly, chewing, snotty, moany and lots of paracetamol. She has no1 bottom tooth through the gum and no2 is on its way now....

she tried her first little bit of baby rice yesterday and by the look on her face you would have thought I was trying to poison her.... she was not that impressed by it!! But i figured when she sat and watched every mouthful dh put in his mouth the other night perhaps she might want to try something else....

eidsvold · 06/05/2005 00:57

oops meant to add - when I then went to breastfeed her she fell on my breast like she had not been fed for days and shot me looks of relief.. like this is more like it not that other crap you were trying to give me!!

collision · 06/05/2005 08:57

lol eidsvold! ds2 loves his solids though, and is a pleasure to feed. The only thing he doesnt like is kiwi ATM. He loves fish, chicken and lentils.

M2M....my ds1 is called Max and he is 3. It is a fab name and not popular at all when he was born. I had wanted him to be Maximus but it was a bit too 'Gladiator' and Max is much easier to spell!!

No teeth for ds2 yet tho he is rolling and sitting in a highchair.

Flossam · 06/05/2005 09:17

Hi everyone. DS is teething but no signs of any immenent teeth. Just makes him a bit miserable at times. The rest of the time he is smiling and giggling and working his way around the room via rolling very nicely! yesterday he crawled a couple of steps backwards! Umm, no darling you haven't quite got the hang of that have you? Think it was just a fluke really, but quite fun!

He is enjoying his food, only had fruit and veg and a couple of times some pasta. He seems to like everything apart from the apples and prune porridge I gave him the other day. His face screwed up every time I put it in, but he still kept opening his mouth every time! probably hoping something different might be on the spoon! He has been a bit constipated, hence the prunes, but he is drinking much better now, although only juice still, so hopefully it won't be a problem again. He refuses water point blank.

Anyway, we are moving tomorrow, so I really not ought to be on here!! I think we are mostly sorted, but DP's parents again are pissing me off. They still haven't seen DS since he was 4 weeks old. He's 6 months to the day on sun. They are coming up to help us move and I thought to see us. They are coming up after he finishes work this evening (a good 3 hour drive) and staying the one night, going back tomorrow afternoon. Really think they just don't give a shit. Sorry for all the swearing but I'm . I think DP is really hurt. Anyway, rant over. Welcome to all the new people hear!! looking forward to hearing all about you all over the coming months!

mum2max · 06/05/2005 16:44

dh wanted max to be Maximillian (not likely!) so he settled for Maxwell
As for teeth, well he woke up this morning all smiles after having had a really good nights sleep as if nothing had kept him up the previous umpteen nights! Happy as larry... but no teeth to show for all the trauma. Thank god for all the remedies, it's prob a coincidence but I'm sure they worked.

Max LOVES any food of any flavour/ texture/ colour etc. Not suprising he's 20lb 4 oz then Trying desperately to roll over, can get his bum up but doesn't quite know what to do with arms .

bunny2 · 08/05/2005 22:47

hiya - gosh it seems ages since I posted. Cant beleive we are coming up for 6 months already. Dd continues to be the worlds most chilled out baby- She is a doddle which makes my life easier as ds is a bit difficult right now. She can sit up for a few seconds but doesnt yet roll over and she has 2 lovely pointy teeth just poking through the gum. So sweet! She loves food - am determined not to resort to jars of food so I am busy pureeing pears and apple, sweet potato and squash etc.

collision · 09/05/2005 15:20

Bunny.....hello! I was wondering where you had got to!

How many weeks is my ds? 16 November to now. I cant be bothered to count it but I bet a lot of you do and will know.

6 months has gone so quickly. Ds had spag bol last night and gobbled it up. Still no teeth but I am sure he is working on it as he is a bit grizzly!

bunny2 · 09/05/2005 20:16

hi collision, good to hear all is well with ds. Spag bol - sounds good, I am keeping dd off gluten, dairy etc for as long as poo but I think we are both getting bored with vegetable purees! She has started feeding herself (well, sucking on) rice cakes - she is growing up too fast.

eidsvold · 09/05/2005 21:46

collision - my dd2 is 25 weeks and she was born 15 Nov.

We have one tooth clearly visible when she opens her mouth and one more bump in the bottom gum. All of us are bunged up with colds here at the moment. So poor dd2 is very snooty from teething and has a touch of a cold - poor thing.

She is on the move now - put her down on her rug and she rolls around the room - she did a huge circle last night - until she rolled into the wall and could not go any further.

eidsvold · 09/05/2005 21:47

I don't count until someone asks me and I usually answer in terms of months and then come home and check the calendar to see what it is in weeks!! We are off on our first holiday with dd2 in a couple of weeks.

bmh · 09/05/2005 21:57

hi there,

sorry to but in with a totally unrelated question but new to mumsnet and just looking at the babies born in november section. My DS was born 21st november so just coming up to 6 months. I've enjoyed reading that everyone is going through the same as me and ben (ds). Anyway question is: is it normal that i haven't had a period yet? I breastfed exclusively for 5 months but been on the bottle now for 3 weeks as returning to work shortly. Thought they'd be back by now, not that i'm complaining, just wondered how long it's supposed to be. Sorry it's a bit personal
