Happy new year ladies. Jj has been my shining star ⭐️ this year. Perhaps the Only tier 4 blessing , I don’t have to go back to work yet .Going to enjoy my extra few weeks with babe

We’ve given up on a set bedtime it was too distressing for us . I’ve moved his cot next to the bed &gone back to going to bed together . hes fell asleep without breastfeeding (holding my hand😅) a couple of times. He sleeps great till 1am & is every hour after that . we had a one good night last week the first time ever he slept 5.5hours!. Not done it since but It will all come together I suppose . We still don’t have any teeth yet but are almost crawling

Happy New Year everyone! It has been the hardest year of my (and most people’s) life but definitely feel grateful to have had something so wonderful happen this year.

Does anyone have any New Years resolutions? Mine are just to really get on top of managing housework/cooking and looking after the baby so my husband doesn’t have to do so much, specifically I want to start cooking some more healthy foods that we can all eat together. Gave Jia her first taste of food yesterday - some mashed banana. She was not impressed.

My biggest hope for 2021 is that Jia can finally meet her maternal grandparents, I haven’t seen my parents since early august 2019.

Can’t believe some babies are starting to crawl already! I better add baby-proofing to my to do list!

Missgemini · 02/01/2021 22:30

@UKtoSK I hope you can see your family this year. Must be so much harder being in a different country.
I filmed the first meal thinking baby would be excited. He was not impressed, but still forwarded the video to all the extended family haha
@mj2196 we are quite similar. Sleep is still a mess over here. No teeth either, although I think it's on the way.

Those that have babies that sleep well, I'm curious, what's your 24 hours sleep routine like? I want my evenings back!

mrssunshinexxx · 03/01/2021 02:54

@Missgemini what do you class as sleeping well? Grin

Missgemini · 03/01/2021 09:34

@mrssunshinexxx hahaha! Probably not you as you were up at 3am 😁 Seriously though, I would classify 'sleeping well' as going to bed at 7 or 8 and mostly being asleep the rest of the night. Even if 5 wakings in the night. I'm so fed up of him being awake till midnight sometimes.

NeurologicallySpeaking · 03/01/2021 09:40

MissGemini we have:

Bedtime between 7 and 8pm
Bring into our bed around 5am
Awake for the day at 0630-0700

Nap 1: around 0830
Nap 2: around 1130
Nap 3: 1400-1600 or if this nap is short, we have to fit in another nap at 1700 which is preceded by hysteria.

Disclaimer: for this to work, nap 3 has to be on me which means I can't do anything. So also doesn't work v well when I am doing the school run for DD1

Also from 8pm-7am we don't do any feeds we do have grumbling, waking up, resettling, putting dummy back in which will prove more challenging when she moves into her own room.

Busylizzie85 · 03/01/2021 10:43

@Missgemini our routine is no where perfect and I'm sure most will criticise me but I do have my evening back!
We get up between 6:30-7, usually nap somewhere between 9:30-10, 12:30-1, 3:00-3:30 length of naps vary as do the times and I can't get her to nap for long so she's probably way overtired all day but she will always normally be in bed by 7/7:30 after bath and milk feed that is the only consistent part of the day.
She's then normally up 3-4 times a night roughly every 2-3 hours from 10 or 11 o'clock at night no matter how much milk or food she's had in the day.

Its interesting to see peoples routines, I feel like I'm a slave to mine and not sure how people go to baby groups (pre pandemic!) etc as I feel I'm always having to work around feeding / nap times.

We normally wake up between 6 - 6.30.

Nap 1 is 8 or 8.30, basically 2 hrs wake time from when he wakes up.

Nap 2 will be 2 and a half hours after he wakes up from nap 1 so can vary. His first nap can be anywhere from 50 mins to 1h 10 mins. Nap 2 probably around 11.45am. Again length varies, usually 45 mins to an hr and 20 occasionally longer. 3rd nap will be 2 and a half hrs after he wakes up and be around 3.30 or 3.45 and will be shorter, about 30 or 40 mins.

I find I really have to try and stick to this and it's hard with the timings. For example, if I go for a walk in the afternoon and hes been awake for a n hr and a half he will actually fall asleep in the pram but this is bad news as he will then only sleep 30 to 40 mins and not be tired for his nap after that and be awake far too long before bed. Not sure if I'm trying to control the day routine too much Hmm

Bed time routine starts at 6.15 with a bath. Hes out the bath at 6.35 and into pjs and then hes given his last bottle at 6.45 in a dark room. I put him down awake at 7pm and by 7.05 hes asleep. He doesnt usually stir then till he wakes up which I know I'm fortunate with. Recently, for the first time in months, he has woken about 3 or 4 times, cries for 30 seconds then goes back to sleep. I think it's the beginning of teething!

Smiffette · 03/01/2021 12:44

@UKtoSK I always make a resolution, this year it's to make time for me. The last 6 months have been amazing and I love my DD to the end of the world, I feel I now need to start focusing on my wellbeing.

So I've started regularly exercising again, I know it's only day 3 but my DH fully supports this as he knows how much I miss my exercise!

I was never much of a bath person, but I'm currently having the most relaxing bath since the day DD was born! 6 months and 3 weeks ago!

Missgemini · 03/01/2021 12:45

Thanks @neurologicallyspeaking and @busylizzie85. That's actually really helpful. The consistent thing I can see from both routines which is different from mine is the wake up at 630/7. I have to say that we got into a habit or waking up late and going to bed late. Probably partly my fault.
Over the last couple of days, I've been making us wake at 8am. You probably think that's not early, but we got into a habit of waking up at 9/10/1030, which is a difficult habit to break.
I'll have to force a routine shift to try and do the 7am wake up you ladies speak about. I just want to be able to sit down and have dinner/hangout in the evenings in peace.
Thanks again ladies :)

Missgemini · 03/01/2021 12:50

@srs1311 thanks for your routine as well. Just saw it after posting. The successful sleepers seem to wake and got to bed at similar times. I feel so motivated now :)

mrssunshinexxx · 04/01/2021 00:07

Oh in that case I'm doing well ! @Missgemini
She goes to sleep between 7.15& 8 depending on when her last nap was and she will sleep usually for 4 hours so I have my evening x

mrssunshinexxx · 04/01/2021 00:11

@Missgemini pressed send too soon
Full routine if interested..

I wake her 7/7.30 latest if she's not awake
Then she will sleep 10/10,30 and has about 40/45 mins if she doesn't wake I wake her.
Then she will sleep 1/1.30-3/3.30 again I wake her don't let her have any more than 2 hours or sleep past 3.30 and bedtime at around 7.30pm

We do swimming and 2 baby classes which are in the morning those days I just try put her down for morning nap earlier or she has a very short one in the car. I'm not happy to be tied to the house or let her routine control our whole life, works for us !

I made a new thread as this one is about to run out. Hope the slight title change is ok! I want to add our sleep “routine” but I’m just about to put baby down for a nap (9:50am here) before she gets a second wind, so I’ll add it in the new thread!
