Hi all just catching up!

Mine moved into his own Monday, he was definitely ready to - we were waking him up a lot. He did great with it and no issues, it was me who struggled! I felt like crying and felt very sad he was not next to me anymore, I also checked the monitor about 10 times in the night haha

He rolls from back to front and front to back and also loves blowing raspberries making bubbles and a variety of shrieky noises! He moves his legs really fast like he is trying to crawl but cant figure it out! I do sometimes wonder how exhausting its going to be when they are mobile!! He went into 9 - 12 month clothing yesterday also.

A week or so ago we started on veg puree, a couple of tea spoons a day. He does seem a little non plussed with it, but I expect the bitter veg taste is a bit different to sweet milk! I'd like to move onto BLW with sticks of veg etc as think he will prefer it but hes only 5 months and a half. Not sure if those extra 2 weeks will make a difference safety wise until he is 6 months?!

He also likes Hey Bear and we do have the tv on for him, prob for 20 mins 3 times a day or something like that. I find that this is a bit of a difficult age for entertaining as he is not quite old enough to fully play with things but is awake longer. We make sure we do loads with him, interaction, rolling round, activity gym, activity chair, a walk every day etc. I think it's hard for us pandemic mummies also, difficult to visit people or do things like baby classes / swimming etc.

I just cant believe it's been nearly 6 months!! In the beginning it felt like just getting to 6 weeks crawled past and it was SO hard. Dont know where the time has gone. Really looking forward to a lovely (quieter) Christmas even though he wont know too much about it Smile

Cornishbumpkin · 16/12/2020 09:19

@SRS1311 well done for sticking with it overnight, did he sleep better? I think I would cry so much I'd end up going and sleeping in his room!

Freddie is only 5.5 months but was born 2 weeks late so I'm going by he would have been 6 months if he'd have come on time lol. A lot of the baby led weaning safety is if they can sit up unaided and don't still immediately do the tongue thrust reflex. It's mad to think they are half a year old!

mrssunshinexxx · 16/12/2020 10:18

@SRS1311 hey I had a chat with our local weaning specialist yesterday she said no blw before 6m due to their gag reflex not developed .
I have been giving her some finger foods though I think ultimately no one knows our babies like we do just trust your instincts, if he gags and pushes out his mouth he isn't ready xx

SRS1311 · 16/12/2020 12:18

@cornishbumpkin @mrssunshinexxx

Yes he slept better! He had started waking up between 5 and 5.30 and once he had woken up at this time he wouldnt go back to sleep. But it was usually just because we had disturbed him rolling over in bed lol. He usually sleeps now till about 6.15 which is better

I'm thinking then he might not be quite ready for more solid food. I think he still has the tongue reflex thing, hes always just sticking his tongue out haha. He does seem a little uncertain with trying to get things in his mouth also. I was hoping come Christmas day he might have a mini turkey dinner (extremely mini lol) but will see how he goes over the next few days. He was also born a week late and I do also often go from his due date as his 'development' age!

Missgemini · 16/12/2020 16:43

We started weaning with purees yesterday. He initially wasn't so sure, but much better today.
People doing BLW, what type of foods are you doing?
I might do a mixture of purees and normal food.

NeurologicallySpeaking · 16/12/2020 16:47

I'm only doing veg fingers so far. So steamed carrot sticks, roasted butternut squash, green beans, avocado...

Will progress to omelette strips, pitta, steak...

BabyBird20 · 16/12/2020 20:48

@Missgemini we are doing a mixture of purée and finger food at the moment too. Started a week ago and he cannot get enough purée, he loves everything I've given him so far (takes after his mum 😬) Favourites are avocado and cauliflower, he also shares my weetabix for breakfast and loves to chew bananas! It's amazing watching them learn to eat isn't it!

mrssunshinexxx · 17/12/2020 09:17

@Missgemini both here too
Porridge and banana or pear/apple stewed in it for breakfast then finger foods banana , broccoli, pear, strawberries, cauliflower
She is doing really well with lumps now so going to progress on to pasta , potatoes fish next week
We are mainly pescatarian so lo will be the same

Missgemini · 17/12/2020 11:48

Thanks ladies. This is reassuring.
How are the poos since weaning? I was having grapes last night and gave him a little.
He pooed this morning and the bit of grape was in there haha

NeurologicallySpeaking · 17/12/2020 13:54

We had a surprise hit at lunch today - jacket potato! I baked a v small potato and then cut into quarters. LO had great fun sucking the potato off the skin! No butter or anything yet but she thought it was great!

BabyBird20 · 17/12/2020 19:58

@Missgemini omg the weaning poos are a whole new ballgame! His face when he tries to get them out too is a picture bless him! If he swallows any chunks of food or often comes out the same as it went in!!

Ooh @NeurologicallySpeaking thanks for the inspiration, I'll have to try this! Benji loves anything super soft at the moment so trying to encourage more chomping on soft finger foods rather than me feeding him lots of purée!

UKtoSK · 18/12/2020 00:26

I hadn’t been looking forward to weaning at all for some reason. I think because I love being her only source of food for almost six months now (other than 2-3 days of formula supplement at the start) but the past couple of days she has started looking at my food and not just at me eating and I’m starting to feel excited to try her with different foods and see her reaction. She’s a skinny baby and I think she’s going to be a fussy eater like her mummy lol. Being a mum truly lets you appreciate how hard it was for your own mum doesn’t it?

Anyone else still going through the sleep regression? The original sleep regression back in October/November seems like a dream compared to this past week. We have taken to bed sharing most of the night just to get through.

Applying for her British passport at the moment. Not expecting to be able to travel any time soon but want it there just in case.

Smiffette · 18/12/2020 13:50

@UKtoSK we've had a a tough few weeks of sleep, I didn't realise that some babies can go through a regression around 6 months! She was refusing to be put down in her next to me crib so was sleeping on me sat up, which wasn't sustainable. I then just gave in and after her first wake kept in bed with me laying down so I could feed her... gave my back a rest but I never sleep well when she's in bed with me.

Anyway this last few nights we've turned a corner and she's sleeping longer stretches again, by that I mean max 3 and half hours, so now I just need to get her back in her crib and then in January into her own room.

Wanted to wait for her sleep to settle before I moved her in there

mrssunshinexxx · 18/12/2020 14:54

@UKtoSK my lo has been pretty awful sleep wise since 4 month regression she's 6 months on Christmas Day and usually wakes 2 hourly all through the night she will very occasionally do a random 4 hour stretch
I am enjoying weaning she was sat on my knee yesterday and just grabbed my current tea cake off my and started nibbling
I can't believe how quick they change in terms of managing BLW

Blizy · 18/12/2020 21:34

Hi, I've not been on for a while!

I'm doing BLW with Rose, her favs so far are banana pancakes, toast and tonight we had a beef stir fry (her first proper dinner) she LOVED the strips of beef, couldn't get enough of them!
I'm put hey bear you tube channel on for her occasionally, I find that if she's inconsolable,
She stops crying instantly as soon as hey bear is on. Hmm

We have a My Hummy bear for white noise, it's favs I leave it on for 12 hours (not that she sleeps much these days...).

Zoey92 · 18/12/2020 23:21

Just catching up, seems we're all pretty much at the same stage with weaning.
Just dping purees atm, my nerves are getting the better of me with BLW. LO is enjoying them though.

Anyone done the transition into own room yet and how did you get on?
I think we're going to do it between the xmas and new year while we're both at home.
She goes down about 7pm, bottle 10:30 and sleeps till 6:30/7, i feel like she may aswell be in her own room if shes gping through the night, not going to lie I'll be devastated and wont settle 😂

mrssunshinexxx · 19/12/2020 03:40

@Blizy oooh I'm going to try my lo with healthy pancakes in the morn she seems to of really got the hang of blw now!

@Zoey92 yes mine has been for a good few weeks but only because she grew out of sleepy head and the maxi sleepyhead wouldn't fit in snuzpod. I'm in here with her though we have a double bed in the nursery so I start the night with dh in our room watching telly and doze off then she usually wakes at 12am sometimes I stay in nursery after that feed sometimes I go in our room until one more wake up

UKtoSK · 20/12/2020 03:48

@Smiffette knowing that there’s a 6 month sleep regression for some is actually very reassuring. Jia started the 4 month regression at 3 months and so it was really disheartening that just as it was starting to get better it suddenly got so much worse. Good to know that it’s just developmental and not something I’ve done wrong. I’m also waiting for her sleep to improve a bit before thinking about moving her to her own room. She gets so stressed when I don’t go to her right away in the night, I don’t think she could handle being in another room yet.

@mrssunshinexxx I wouldn’t mind going back to 2 hourly waking, that would be an improvement on this week! Haha. Last night she did a 4 hour stretch but it was after basically being awake from 10pm to 12:30am 😫

@Blizy Rose is looking so much bigger now! How’s her digestion and everything now?

Missgemini · 20/12/2020 15:24

@blizy Rose is a big girl now! She is chomping on that piece of meat! Haha
We have the exact same hugh chair!

We're doing both BLW and purees.
Slow start, but he's eating more now

Smiffette · 20/12/2020 18:30

@UKtoSK yes I was reassured when I read about it, and it seems to not be as bad as the 4 month one for my LO luckily!
I'm expecting. Teeth through to be the next thing that disturbs her

Blizy · 20/12/2020 20:18

@UKtoSK and @Missgemini she has definitely gained weight! She's now at the top end of the 25th centile. She's doing really well, been diagnosed with CMPA. and has been thriving on her prescription milk. She's like a different baby, she's such a happy, cheeky wee thing.

Missgemini · 21/12/2020 11:52

@blizy thats so lovely to hear! She does look so well and keen for adult food haha

UKtoSK · 22/12/2020 06:29

Found the first photo in the family group chat yesterday. What happened to my tiny newborn? 😮 second photo is today, she managed to sit up for a little while unsupported. I think she’ll really be sitting within a couple of weeks.

I hope everyone is able to have a happy Christmas despite the sudden changes to the rules in the U.K. I’m so gutted for everyone who has had to change their plans and now can’t see their families as expected.

She's so lovely @UKtoSK

@Blizy she loves her food bless her! We are still mainly on purées, I have offered carrots sticks, broccoli, banana etc but she put it in her mouth and then thens to spit it out.

Ivy has her third tooth coming through at the top so I guess I'll never get any sleep ever 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

It's so reassuring to read through your experiences with sleep post the 4 month regression ladies! Benji hasn't yet recovered and wakes every 1 to 2 hours after his first 4 hour block 😩😩 whoever said they sleep better with weaning lied to me!!

On the weaning front I think I need to be brave and just let him have a go now, he grabbed my banana the other day and went for it bless him. A bit of gagging but he didn't seem bothered. Our main problem now is his digestion, any one else noticed their little one struggles to poo more? Poor baby gets really upset and strains so hard. Any tips on helping him?

@mrssunshinexxx do you recommend the sleepyhead grand? Benji is still squeezing into his sleepyhead in the snuzpod at the moment but I feel like he needs more space! I tried him without the sleepyhead and he just cried and cried 😩😩
