Hi everyone,
wow, haven't been on here is aaages! We are all well, hope you all are.
I could just see Grace being a whoopsiedaisy thingy - is that like upsydaisy?
Alfie, predictably wants a fire engine or some kind of mee mah for Christmas.
We are trying to defer him at school, and seem to have the support of the nursery teacher. This would mean he starts in the August before he is six. They are quite keen for boys to do this up here, and the research all suggests that he would do better if we waited.
He is still a bit vacant in the classroom, doesn't really listen to the teacher and flits from one thing to the next. She said (in his defence) he had a great vocabulary, but looks quite young and has a small head?? Mind you we seem to have one of the tallest groups of parents I have ever encountered so the children are all pretty tall.
The Christmas carol thing is tomorrow at his nursery, then a party on Thursday and that's them - off until January.
That running bike thing has totally worked, I'm very pleased to say that Alf went hurtling off on a proper pedal bike last week and has never used stabilisers. On the down side, he can't use the brakes and doesn't have a helmet, and thinks going very fast is hilarious, so I'm not sure about releasing him into the wild yet.
Who is cooking Christmas dinner? (not us)

cazzybabs · 16/12/2008 20:32

[cazzybabs waves excitedly at Maisy]

Grace also had a running bike and can now pedal a bike...she is not quite as bad as no brakes though...she is girl!!!!

Maisy - you are right about better to wait, but it is a long time till September and they will change quite a bit...it is something I would think long and hard over...I am not sure I totally agree with children out of year groups and am fighting very hard to keep one my children in her year group next year ut she was born very premature and so should be in the year below.

cazzybabs · 16/12/2008 20:32

oh and we are off to my mums for Xmas dinner

maisiemog · 16/12/2008 23:07

Hi Cazzy, [waves back] aren't those running bikes cool! I bought him a second hand pedal bike in the Summer time, because I wasn't sure if he was ready, then we took forever to get new tyres blah blah, all the time Alfie was asking 'can I go on my pedal bicycle'. So finally got it ready in October, but the weather pah! So we were limited to running up and down the garden path, and it's quite hard to tell if they are actually pedalling properly when you are pushing isnt' it!
So finally thought, we need to go out on the pavement where he can get a proper run, and whoosh, off he went. What was slightly disconcerting was that he insisted on doing zigzags, I thought he couldn't steer, but no, he was doing zigzags. It's the maniacal laughter that scares me most.
So what happened with Grace, did she have a running bike for a while?
Re the school thing, he is going to change a lot between now and August when they go back, but he isn't able to concentrate as well as other boys his age and nothing like as well as girls his age.
It's not very difficult to defer in Scotland, but we will know for sure in February when the board decides. His teacher has told us she is almost certain to support our application because she thinks he would benefit from another year in preschool, but it will be nice to know for sure. Luckily, two of his best mates are also being deferred, so he will still be able to play with then next year.
In Scotland there are two more intakes, one in January and one in May and luckily, I know he gets on well with some of those children because he already plays with them (I know their mums).
Then next year two of the afternoon boys that he loves will be starting morning nursery, so I'm not too worried about the other kids, more the boredom aspect.
He is very keen spelling and writing, which makes me wonder if he will be bored next year, but we can do that at home and his top favourite is playing with cars, so he should be fine.
Some of the older children in his class are little bossy boots, I wonder if that will happen to him?
It's a really nice nursery, but this year there are more applications than places for the primary school, so hopefully, next year there will be more places, fingers crossed.
We have applied for a place in the primary anyway, and will hear about that in April I think.
What did you do for Gracie's birthday? How are your other girls?
It's funny being on here after so long.

KathH · 23/12/2008 19:13

halloooooooooo!!!!!!!!
Not been on here for months. Moley will start big school full time in September (sob).
Amongst other things he's getting a darlek helme voice changer thing from Santa which no doubt will be doing my head in by 9.30 on Christmas morning! I'm catering for 12 on Thursday - am still not quite sure when I agreed to it!
Merry Christmas everyone

geogteach · 24/12/2008 19:39

Good to see everyone back again.
Geog has not got the amazing cycling skills of the other oct 04 babies, he hated his running bike and has not been over impressed with his proper bike either. I have found it really difficult to choose a xmas present for him as it seems like his birthday was yesterday! have settled on an easel, mainly because the problems he had with his hands when he was born have resurfaced and he is having problems with grip so he needs some practise while he waits for an OT appointment. Otherwise he is fine, more than ready for school and desperate to learn to read and know what the biggest number in the world is
hope santa brings what everyone wants.

hope you ae well. i am doing ok - recoveing from a horrendous miscaiage at 15 weeks ... but still nustn't dwell and all that.

I can't believe they are all off to school this year. Grace is doing really well where she is now and I am very sad to have to move her, but it will be much more covenant to have her at the school i work at.

she is such a coward though ... she won't swim in her swimming lessons as she says the pool is too deep - grhhhhh.

jadgirl - are you still around? Hopw you are doing ok? been thinking about toby lots this week.

cazzybabs · 14/07/2009 12:14

Grace in usual Grace fashion has decided she can swim after all and now there is no stopping her.

Biglips - hope you are doing OK
