riabutterflew · 21/09/2007 13:15

my sister has lived in NZ for about 10 years, but she moved to Kuwait about 3 weeks ago on a 12 month teaching post. I haven't seen her since 2000 and have never met my niece.

am off to make bacon sandwiches and tinned tomato soup to fuel my misery

justbeme · 21/09/2007 13:17

JBM, before you go mad, look through all your answers and make sure you have putsomething in the comments box for each of the questions. Even if it is just yes or no. See if that works!

Daisy, glad you like it!!

BadZelda · 21/09/2007 14:24

Wow DG - lot's of good reasons!...sorry been out all morning so just got back (and both DC's are asleep for a change...so I should probably be doing something useful instead ). I guess I already am teaching DD1 stuff - she knows her numbers and letters and is just starting simple reading - but she can't wait to go to school (even though I am worried about that as almost all the schools round here are crap). Personally I'm not sure I would have the confidence...despite having a good education and being able to cover the academic side I am not trained in child psychology etc...Sounds like you have all that covered. Personally, as someone who was moved around a LOT as a child and went to far too many schools pre-11 I'd like DD's to have a little more stability. It didn't affect me academically, but did affect my ability to be in a group / socialise with my peers - I was always a lot more comfortable with adults.

BadZelda · 21/09/2007 14:25

Ah JBM - don't you just hate online stuff with bad usability?

justbeme · 21/09/2007 14:34

yes BZ - Pain in the ARSSSEE!
Well, I might just try a reuseable nappy on my next nappy change - YIKES!! (now im scared!!)

Was going to go to a Bumps and Bundles group but its on from 2-4 and I cant be bothered to go - especially as I have tomato pip marks on my tops from lunch!!

HI all, nipple is a bit better, though feeding is painful.

We took DD swimming! It was annoying as we had to go to the next city as our pool is closed. It wasn't too bad. She didn't love it but she didn't scream.

In my effort to harness my creativity I have spent a large amount of money in hobby craft on stuff to start making jewellery, sad I know but 5 need to do something!

Jamantha · 21/09/2007 16:16

Any tips re swimming, Bumper? I'm taking DD when I'm visiting my parents next weekend. DH doesn't do swimming, and I thought it'd be easier to go with someone else, at least for the first time, so am going with my Dad.

I'm still here

I had a massive panic attack and just couldn't get in the car. The thought of driving all that way on the A1 in Friday traffic had me shaking and bawling down the phone at DH.

I've never felt like that about driving before and it was quite scary.....my poor DS is beside himself. I've calmed down now, but still can't bring myself to get going.

DH is on his way back.

Charlie999 · 21/09/2007 16:30

Blimey DG that was a great post - although motivation on your part has to play a large part I should think - thats where I would fall down - and fustration

Bumper - would also be interested to hear more about the swimming....what nappies did you use? Did she get cold?

Ria - hope DS1 has had a better day at school...sounds like a really difficult situation....

right off to pack up the car ready for hols to Wales tomorrow...just taken cat to cattery and he cried ....

DD has more stuff than the rest of us put together

If I don't get back on tonight, have a good week and will be back next Sunday....please link to new threads...will probably take me all day to catch up

Charlie999 · 21/09/2007 16:31

I am kind of, but feeling really shite as DS is bawling his eyes out cos he's not allowed to go. DH has promised him a trip to the east coast tomorrow to make up for it, so we'll probably go to Whitby or Filey or maybe Staithes.

daisyandbabybootoo · 21/09/2007 16:43

I presume it means birth father's name. As i said before we were slightly different cos DH is DHs dad and was on his birth certificate. All we were doing was changing his name from my surname to that of his dad. I would suggest going into the registry office in St Andrews and get some one to one advice. You might need to make an appointment.

I feel really tired now and just want to crawl into bed

Charlie999 · 21/09/2007 16:44

He'll be fine Daisy - you done the right thing....god I know what panic attacks are like. Your DH sounds like a diamond

bumperlicious · 21/09/2007 16:45

Daisy, that awful, do you know why? Gosh, I don't know what to say except as soon as you feel ready you should get back in the car, even if it is on your own. You don't want this building up into a big thing

Re: swimming, the baby pool was actually quite cool, which I don't think helped, it did shock her a bit. We didn't put her under, we didn't know how best t do it and didn't want to traumatise her. We just used a swimming nappy type thing from mothercare. She whinged a bit but I think towards the end she got used to it. It actually wasn't that hard to do, and I will do it on my own at some point, but probably when she is a bit more used to it.

DG, been reading your posts with interest. I don't think it is something that we would actively pursue but DH say if she has a crap time at school he would do it.
