Where is everyone tonight?

I've got no-one to crow to about the fact that both my DCs have been tucked up in bed since 7:30 and have been bathed/dressed/nursed/told a story as appropriate.

Feeling very smug, but I must admit I do owe a little bit to SWCBNBNDAM. I didn't manage the full routine, but got in the number of feeds she recommends and DD only slept for about 4 hours in total.

With DS it helped that we walked to the park and back today, about a three mile round trip, uphill all the way home, and were in the park for nearly an hour.

Hi Sunshine,
I am on SMA gold too, my LO (born 21st June) is having 6oz anything up to 7-8 times a day... I think the concensus is, if they drain the bottle regularly, go for the next size up.

I decided to stick with Gold despite the fact he is eating every 2 hours as he might just be having a spurt and the Gold is better for him...although I have some SMA white cartons for night time emergencies where sleep deprivation gets too much! (Although I need to point out that he took 6oz of SMA white last night and I still only got 3 hours out of him).

In your shoes I would just up to 6oz instead of 5, stick with Gold, if you are getting 3/4 hours you aren't doing too bad

I am no HV, no expert, but I figure if they're hungry, let them eat!

daisyandbabybootoo · 24/07/2007 20:21

Hi TA, how is he doing today?

daisyandbabybootoo · 24/07/2007 21:15

All by myseeeeelf, don't wanna be all by myyyyself anymore

And I forgot to mention that babyboo is in her own bed in her own room All my umming and ahhing about re-decorating...she LOVES DSs planet and stars wallpaper...she just lies there looking at it and cooing!

I think I'll out her in the crib after her feed later before I go to bed.

Does anyine else have their LO in their own room yet, or is it not the done thing this young? I didn't have an option with DS as I was in a one bedroom flat!

trendaverter · 24/07/2007 21:26

Hi Daisy!
Erm...DS has been in his own room since week 3

He just grunts really loudly all night and I couldn't sleep so out he went! He seems happy enough though.

Otherwise he is quite well, still eating like a horse - we had a 4 hour feeding marathon earlier, then he slept for 3 hours, then it started again but thankfully DH came home so I could do dinner!
He's getting quite a big boy to be honest. Hardly surprising, he eats more than me.

How are you?

daisyandbabybootoo · 24/07/2007 21:45

I'm all right, bloody knackered as I've been up since 3:00

Managing my DSs tantrums and behaviour quite well, but it is only day 2 if the school holidays.

babyboo is delightful, laughing and smiling and getting more and more alert, but more alert means needing more entertainment and her baby gym just doesn't do it for her at the moment.

My house is still a tip, but at least the DCs have been fed, entertained, bathed and put to bed on time today.

Now I'm going to have a large galss of wine and try to get an hour or so in before DD wakes up for her next feed!

bumperlicious · 24/07/2007 21:45

Hi all

Just to let you know that I got to my mum's safe and sound. DD slept the whole way though, was good as gold. Mum is doing all my washing and I finally get to have a bath after 2 days with no shower!

daisyandbabybootoo · 24/07/2007 22:02

glad you got there safe and sound bumper....isn't feeling clean after a few days of not showerng a fantastic feeling!

Charlie999 · 24/07/2007 22:25

Glad you got there ok Bumper - bet that bath was loverley

TA - sorry I'm as stuck as you are as to why he is guzzling so much milk - I've not done this before either - can you tell it was around 5 weeks though that DD started changing her feeding pattern. Hope it improves. May be worth talking to HV?

Welcome Sunshine . I FF my 7 week old DD and she has around 6oz every 4ish hours. I try and make sure she has a feed around 10pm (she has just taken 4oz after me waking her) so I can sleep till about 4-5am. She then gets fed again and we both sleep till 8ish. I always put her down awake as well and let her drift off.

I'm going to be putting DD in her own room very soon - sending me nuts as she's so noisy kicking and cooing when she's awake. I did try the other night and she had me up every 2 hours . Put her back in my room and she went 6 hours!

Went to GP today and saw a really nice locum - thanks for advice Delor - got to have scan for retained anything, iron tablets, FBC blood test and more antibiotics for infection in scar. Not taking any iron till I know results of blood tho!

Sorry long post . Hope you all get plenty of sleep

Night x

Charlie999 · 24/07/2007 22:26

Meant to say Daisy - what's SWCBNBNDAM? And can I have some - Need a routine here!!!!

daisyandbabybootoo · 24/07/2007 22:43

That acronym was "She Who Can Be Named But No-one Does Any More"...ie Gina Ford.

Glad you're getting tests etc, and hope that things are settling down a bit.

Right, off to wake her up for her (Gina) "no later than 10:30" feed.

Part of me thinks that waking a sleeping baby is a BAAAAAAAAD idea. What if I can't get her to settle again?????

Night xx

bumperlicious · 24/07/2007 23:28

can those of you who are doing routines give me an idea of what you are doing? DH bought a CLBB, but it is a 'baby's first year' book which is good and covers loads of stuff but doesn't spell out a routine and I can't figure out how to make it work following her general ideas. Any help will be appreciated.

daisyandbabybootoo · 25/07/2007 07:39

Morning

Bumper, does it not have the routines laid out? Chapter 6 on page 115 has hour by hour routines for different stages in my copy.

I hope your mum is looking after you and being supportive

Babyboo spent the night in her own room and we both got a better sleep as a result. I'm still struggling to settle har after her middle of the night feed. We were up for an hour and a half last night.

She did sleep from 7:30 to 10:45 and then 11:30 to 3:00 and we got another hour and a half from 4:30 to 6:00.

Will try the Gina Routine in earnest today though.

Hope everyone had a good day yesterday...where were you all?

Charlie999 · 25/07/2007 08:57

Morning all

A real quickie as I'm off to my mum's for the day as its her birthday!

Bumper - I have NO routine (still waiting for my book )- but I do wake DD (by changing her bum) for a feed at 10ish - she is so tired but she usually takes about 4oz and falls asleep on the bottle and I put her down upstairs straight away. She usually wakes up then about 4-5am. That's it as far as our routine goes!

The only other thing I've acheived in 7 weeks is that her muslin has become her comfort blanket! Everytime I lay her down after a feed, I put that near her to catch any sick - she now cuddles it, takes her dummy and goes to sleep

Hope you all have a good day

Jamantha · 25/07/2007 08:59

Daisy - you mmentioned trouble settling after the middle of the night feed. I'm also finding that there are problems with the 3-4am feed. (Though last night she switched it round and "played up" at 1am and was a doddle at 3.30). Does anyone else have one feed that is notorious for being troublesome?

Have to say I don't know that I can be doing with following strict routines, at least not yet - but hope that those of you that do get sucess with them. We're kind of in a routine - DH has a cuddle with DD when he gets in and if it's bath night we do a bath, then it's feed, and settle into bed. She's normally asleep by 8pm, though sometimes a bit later.

annobal · 25/07/2007 10:37

Hi everyone, hope you're all well and not too tired. Am knackered here as ds3 has had a couple of baaad nights.

Aaaah, routines. I abandoned THAT woman's book after i got so wound up on day 2. Thought i might dig it out of its hiding place (at the bottom of the laundry basket where noone goes) in a few weeks when he's 4 weeks old.

Jamantha · 25/07/2007 10:51

Sorry, got cslled away by a wet nappy - DD detests being wet. But off out soon to a do being put on by my dept - an afternoon of fun and games, food and drink. Hope she's on cute behaviour

foxybrown · 25/07/2007 10:55

Morning everyone - finally got to catch up!

Only to forget everything that everyone has said [hmm[

DD2 slept 6 hours last night - 10.30pm to 4.30!

Shame DD1 woke me up at 2

daisyandbabybootoo · 25/07/2007 11:07

Yay, I got my trial pack of cloth nappies today. They are so cute and gorgeous, but look scarily huge!

Annobal, I've got a small fuzzibunz. Total beginners question here, do they need a wrap? or is the outside waterproof? It's gorgeous....pink gingham with flowers on. I won't want to put any clothes on her!

Where were you all yesterday? Having fun I hope!

foxybrown · 25/07/2007 11:26

Hi Daisy, how are you?

I was off being a Mother of 4 yesterday - bloody hell, its full on! Not a second off. Ended the day with a lovely picnic in the park, and DP came home early and joined us.

Kids are off doing a mini-beast hunt in the garden, while I feed Eve constantly - have about 3 blocked ducts in my left breast AAAARRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

daisyandbabybootoo · 25/07/2007 11:42

I'm all right. trying to follow clbb routine, but babyboo having other ideas today. also trying to deal with demanding five year old whose naughty behaviour steps up a gear whenever i pick dd up ,sigh.

she has been doing that thing where she seems desperate for milk, but pushes me away or gets really fretful when on the breast. she came off and has cried inconsolably for 20 mins.

how the hell you manage with another three to deal with, or annobal and derlor with another two i just don't know. my hat is most definately off to you all

got a pool party in someones garden today... don't think so in this rain. I want to leave DS there (although not a good idea if there's a pool) but I don't really know any of the other mums all that well and find it difficult to mix at the moment.

roll on my hols on saturday

foxybrown · 25/07/2007 13:13

Ah, its only day 1 - try not to get stressed about it

I'm feeding pretty constantly, and i'm getting problems. dread feeding on the left.

bumperlicious · 25/07/2007 14:11

Sorry everyone seems to be having a grim day today. We are doing ok here, not a lot of room and missing DH but at least we have water. The good thing is that I don't have to worry about housework, which makes a big difference as whenever DD sleeps at hope it's toss up between eating, sleeping or doing housework. And it's all very well leaving it but I hate living in squalor!

But my mum has offered to pay for a cleaner a couple of hours a week for a month which is great, it will make a huge differnce!

Daisy my CLBB is a guide to the first year, not the original book, so doesn't spell it out which is why I was interested. But doesn't sound like anyone is having much luck with it!

bumperlicious · 25/07/2007 14:14

foxy, how do you know if you have a blocked duct?

foxybrown · 25/07/2007 14:20

Hi there Bumper. Sounds like a good time for a bit of R&R, let your mum mother you for a bit!

I have hard, sore lumps in by breast, and its slightly inflamed and the skin is red in patches. Best thing is to make sure lo sucks and sucks on it, apply hot compresses and massage it. Needs to get sorted as it can lead to mastitus
