Not all of us have babies who sleep from 6:30 till 10 you know. Some of us still spend the evening cluster feeding

derlor · 23/07/2007 20:19

oh yeah i forgot - sorry!!!

daisyandbabybootoo · 23/07/2007 20:30

I've just put babyboo down actually and she shouted for about 10 mins, not crying, and she seems to have settled down now.

I'm watching dispatches at the moment and am at the care this woman is receiving.

bumperlicious · 23/07/2007 20:32

i'm back! ok, any tips for my journey tomorrow? bit nervous, i love driving but scared of making this journey with dd. it's 2.5 hours. the most i've done is 45mins to see dh at work.

daisyandbabybootoo · 23/07/2007 20:38

Bumper, just make sure you feed her before you set off, and have a break mid journey so she isn't sitting in her car seat for too long. Don't wrap her up too much either cos if it gets sunny she can overheat (made this mistake with DS at a week old; he had a coat and hat on, we got stuck in traffic and the sun came out. The poor wee soul was nearly boiled)

Make sure you've got lots of water and snacks in the car for yourself incase you get stuck in traffic so you're not suffering either.

And relax....

derlor · 23/07/2007 20:47

ditto to what Daisy said, take good music too. you'll be fine and if she needs a feed just park and feed then carry on. x

derlor · 23/07/2007 20:48

oh just switched dispatches on but too sad for me - making me cry, it's awful.
turning over now.

Charlie999 · 23/07/2007 20:51

Is it all motorway driving Bumper? I'm sure you'll be fine - I find it quite difficult with LO in the back as I can't see her - if I have to go on a long journey on my own, I transfer the base and car-seat to the front seat (I can just switch off the air-bag). I still concentrate on the road, just don't worry as much as when I can't see her - especially if I'm on a motorway where I can't just pull over.

derlor · 23/07/2007 20:52

we've got our 6 week check tomorrow, Gp wants to see me too!!! that's never happened before. didn't used to bother with the mum's here - maybe i'm just special

Charlie999 · 23/07/2007 20:58

I'm seeing my lovely mid-wfie for my post-natal check - don't think they do very much though from what I gather?

Unfortunately its not until next week as she's on holiday otherwise I would speak to her about my bleeding and I wouldn't have to go to GP tomorrow

derlor · 23/07/2007 21:00

are you in a single handed GP practice charlie?

daisyandbabybootoo · 23/07/2007 21:01

You can get mirrors in Halfords for sticking onto your rear windscreen so that you can see into the car seat.

DHs old company car had a switch for disabling the air bag so the car seat could go in the front. I'm thinking of getting my front passenger airbag disabled so I can have her in the front with me......or is that not very safe?

It's watching programmes like that which make me realise that the care I've had with both DS and DD has been second to none. When in with DD after the section, the MW who was on at night kept telling me to buzz when I was starting to feed her so she could check my latch. When she saw the light on she popped her head around the door, saw I was feeding, and gave me a lecture for not buzzing. If my light was on at night she would always check on me. The day staff were pretty good too, even though they were very very busy.

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 23/07/2007 21:02

Oh gawd! I think I'm going to cave into the evil world of formula tonight!

Hello everyone - sorry I've been shit at keeping up with whats been going on - One day I'll catch up - I promise!

Delor - If you are still there - What should I do!!! My little fella just wants to be on my boob all the time! He'll sleep for no longer than 1.5 hours - I am knackered and feel like shit!
If I give him some formula at around 11 ish and express of my on breast milk - would that do any lasting damamge - and what formula should I get?

Help - feel like an awful mother!

Charlie999 · 23/07/2007 21:07

Unfortunately yes I am Delor - I'll have a bit of a fight to get an appointment in the morning but I'm pretty good at giving the receptionist a hard time

I bought my car-seat in the Jan sales (about 18 weeks pg!) knowing it didn't fit in the back seats of our car and when I finally got around to getting the air-bag disabled at 36 weeks pg (as usual left it till last minute - had DD at 38+1), they told me they couldn't disable it - cue PANIC. That was a friday afternoon.

So rather than buy a new car seat - on the Sunday I went and bought a new car - much more fun than a new car seat . Bought an estate as we have a labrador - he would probably chew any mirror I put on the back windscreen

daisyandbabybootoo · 23/07/2007 21:14

All hail queen charlie...

You get the crown for shopping

I must admit I like your style!

DKMA...how old is your LO now? DD went through a growth spurt at 3 weeks and just fed and fed and fed. I actually started a thread on here as I was at my wits end. She then slept for 7 hours, and was back in her usual routine (such as it was) within a day or two!

tbh if you are going to express anyway you may as well feed him, and then maybe give a wee formula top up?

derlor · 23/07/2007 21:14

Oh DKMA poor you.
first of all you are NOT an awful mother, you are tired and exhausted fabulous mother
Formula is not evil, don't feel bad about giving formula to your LO if you want to. Remember it is not just him that needs looking after YOU need to rest and look after yourself as well.
as to what one to buy maybe the best would be one of the pre mixed ones would be best as it saves you faffing around. I know Aptimil comes in wee cartons ready just to pour and give not sure if SMA do this as well. Just be sure to buy 1st stage milk.
your LO will not have horns in the morning - honest!!!
i would suggest that you build up a stock of EBM and keep it in the freezer and have a night every week when you just go to bed and DH does all the feeds.
hope this helps x

daisyandbabybootoo · 23/07/2007 21:15

oops, Hi DKMA

derlor · 23/07/2007 21:17

LOL charlie at you just buying a new car - do you buy a new one every time it gets dirty too?????!?!?!?! fanflippingtastic

daisyandbabybootoo · 23/07/2007 21:18

....and I've got Aptamil in the house, which was what my HV recommended last time.

You want the green carton and you'll get it in all big supermarkets.

If you want organic, Hipp do one but I don't know of that's available in supermarkets ready made, but you will get it in Boots.

Charlie999 · 23/07/2007 21:19

Whats more - I put it on the credit card (or a couple actually as it went over the limit!!) .

Not quite as reckless as it sounds - banks don't open on a Sunday

Thought I was going to collect the following week but when they said "do you want to take it home today", we thought well why not?! Other car looked like a shithole, but they didn't care as they just go to auction.

BTW I can't see any reason why a car-seat can't go in the front providing air-bag is disabled and the driver concentrates on the road not the baby!

daisyandbabybootoo · 23/07/2007 21:20

Derlor...why won't my darling daughter settle in the evenings? She slept for about half an hour earlier, is now up and sitting in her wee chair enjoying looking around at the world. She did this the last couple of nights as well.

I want to go to bed....I'm bloody knackered

Charlie999 · 23/07/2007 21:21

I don't do clean cars - inside or out . We have a bunch of illegal immigrants in our Saisbury's car-park whol give a car a good wash and polish for a fiver

DKMA - I FF and use Farleys. I was told its the only formula manufactured in the UK - don't know if its true, but DD does OK on it. SMA can be a bit rich for some babies I think.

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 23/07/2007 21:21

Thanks for your advice
He was 3 weeks yesterday - yep he probably is having a growth spurt - not that I'd notice! He's pretty much been like this the whole time.
By day 12 he'd put on 11 oz from birth, I weel later he'd put on another 13 oz - so he's doing really well and getting plenty - I'm just shattered and can't keep up with him!
I expressed some off on Saturday morning to give him as a top up - but I felt that my stores were a bit depleated by the evening and he guzzled the ebm like it was a pathetic snack - I had to bf him anyway!

derlor · 23/07/2007 21:23

Daisy - i don't have a farking clue!!!!!

derlor · 23/07/2007 21:25

DKMA are you looking after yourself ie eating and drinking enough???
i have a sneaky suspicion you're not you know!!
